There's a good amount of variety on the menu, but only one udon option. The ramen broth is delicious and the noodles are perfectly cooked. There's a decent amount of meat, as well. I got the truffle shoyu ramen (with an addition of an egg, which is unfortunately extra), and the truffle aroma is delightfully strong. Good if you're a fan of truffle! I visited R101 Ramen around 6:30 on a weekend and was somehow able to find parking in their small lot immediately (I could see parking being an issue when busy). We were seated quickly and were able to order and receive our food all in around 15 minutes. I ordered the tantanmen and my mom had the yuzu shio ramen. I thought the tantanmen was fine but wished it had more toppings. They were generous with the pork and I found the broth to be pretty rich and flavorful. Presentation wasn't the best, as you can see in my photo (super wilted nori). My mom liked that the yuzu shio ramen had a light fish-based broth as described, but tasted no yuzu flavor and thought the round slices of chicken were unusual. Prices were decent, about $45 for two bowls of ramen. Not the cheapest but definitely more reasonable than other places. read more

On a Friday, made the drive in LA traffic out to Burbank. Not far, distance-wise but when it comes to LA traffic, IYKYK. I know the area as I know people who live nearby so I also took a chance with parking. It's a tiny lot for this plaza and I've never been able to find a spot. Until my most recent visit. Pulled into the lot and all three spots in front were open. I should have went and bought a lottery ticket after dinner. Service has always been great. Attentive and friendly. Even when busy. I think it's because of the layout. Inside, it's outward facing counters with one big communal like table in the middle. Staff just have to come out from behind the cooking area/cash register and can easily make rounds. As the self-proclaimed Ramen Junkie - If I don't like a Ramen spot, I don't go back. We had friends come in from out of town and the party kept getting larger and larger. We ended up needing to find a spot to eat for about 11 people and luckily we were able to get accommodated by this small ramen shop! They have a long table in the middle that's kinda like picnic bench style and it was perfect for our large party. Took us about 2 hrs stuck in traffic and they seated us immediately when we got there, thankfully!! Parking is small so we all parked at the galleria mall parking structure and just walked over. We were planning to hang out at the mall afterwards anyway! Super nice staff and they were able to get our food and drinks out really quick, along with helping us with a group photo. I'm not hugely into ramen so I went for their gyoza which I somehow managed to order double of even though I wasn't very hungry but it was super tasty and cooked perfectly! I'm really happy to say that the service and speed of this restaurant improved so much from previous visits. I was craving ramen, I knew this place had delicious food, so I thought I would give it a go expecting an only ok service. First things first, the parking in this area is terrible. Their lot is small and the streets are usually difficult because you're in a commercial/residential area. By the time this place opens, street sweeping times should be done, but a lot of dumpsters are still in the way, so good luck on that part, but it is what it is in the area. I was surprised it was as empty as it was when I got there at 12:30 on a Tuesday because this place is usually packed! The only thing I would say be careful for is if you get hot easily, don't sit next to the glass divider because they boil the ramen right behind it and if it's a hot day, that corner can be really uncomfortable. Also, the tables are shared, so there's a chance that you're going to sit next to a stranger if it's busy. If you're an introvert, to-go is a great option because they pack their food in a way that your ramen won't get soggy in broth and sides are individually boxed. They gave me a bowl of tsukemono (I believe it's house made pickled cabbage, but I didn't confirm). It's sour, bitter, crunchy...it's hard to describe, but give it a taste. I personally love it, my friend, not at all. I ordered the gyoza (which is always cooked to perfection) and has the best dipping sauce! The spam musubi, which is spam musubi. They don't go crazy on sauce or anything fancy which I love; keep it classic. I also ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen and I always get the spicy on the side because it really builds up the more you eat. (It's just a way for me to control the flavor and build up of spiciness). In the tonkatsu ramen, they give a generous amount of pork and toppings. They have a lot of additional toppings you can add. On your table, you'll also find a tray that has other ingredients for toppings such as chili, oil, sesame seeds, soy sauce and what I think is white pepper (unsure). Service was really quick and they had great customer service. If you're going to take food to go, make sure you're really specific on how many boxes you want. read more

R101 Ramen aka 101 Ramen is a small communal style ramen restaurant in the city of Glendale located inside a small plaza on Central Avenue/Vine Street just south of Colorado Street, less than a quarter of a mile away from the Americana at Brand. You can park in the lot if a spot is available or on the street (mind restrictions and time limits. When you walk in you're greeted by some of the most incredible people who go above and beyond. The Spicy Miso Ramen (as well as the Miso, I'd imagine) were so rich with broth, veggies, tofu (my protein of choice). One of the two vegan broth options (labeled on the menu) and they don't dissapoint. Pairing with some garlic edamame and some nigori style sake made for a meal with all levels of flavor from spicy to savory to sweet. Dining with a party of four my friends got to enjoy mods to their L.A. Tan Tan Ramen (opting for no chili oil) - not the spicy bunch where as I just couldn't get enough spice :D they also shared some Karaage (Chicken) and Gyoza (pork), which now also comes in Veggie Gyoza (vegan friendly) - if I hadn't of gotten so full, I'd definitely would've had an order of those, the veggie salad or the Veggie croquettes (all while be enjoyed next time). Coming on recommendation of our friend Cliff who sat next to me and was super sweet to call ahead to ask about vegan offerings before we arrived I quickly learned of all the amazing options. They have an incredible happy hour that includes bottles of sake, beer and more. While tables are either one epic long double side in the middle or wrap around the windows (bar style). You have plenty of space to enjoy your meal with you group, companion or even solo. Restrooms available just right of the entrance. They offer easy add ons, including additional noodles to your ramen as noted and experienced by someone just left of us at a different table. While the table and chairs are lower to the ground it felt pretty comfortable to sit and enjoy all the good food, energy and cozy little big vibes of R101, plus that AC on a 100 plus day! R101 always ends up on my late-night ramen craving list when I need a pick-me-up and I forgot to order some before others closed... but they consistently make a great bowl of veggie ramen for me when I takeout and I happily slurp at home! Veggie ramens can oftentimes be hit or miss, but I do love their creamier broth, and generous portion of vegetables (mushroom, corn, etc.) and tofu strips to add. It's everything you'd want for a hearty veggie ramen. My boyfriend often orders their other shoyu ramens, and their chicken karaage. Ramen is great overall, though I wish the chicken karaage was less chewy and more crispy, and had a better dipping sauce than the super salty teriyaki kind that comes with it. But other than that, we are happy regular customers and appreciate that they offer service to late night eaters in the area! I've been in their shop a few times and it's a cool, cozy, black and intimate casual spot where the kitchen and staff is behind the counter as you eat. The black interior gives it a very modern, cool ramen house feel. A few tables and lots of takeout is normal for Los Angeles spots, but I'm glad they've got a solid one here. I've been in once before for ramen, and it was sooo good, i came in fully w the intention to get it, but changed last minute to the curry with rice and an order of the chicken karaage. We came in with a hungry family and devoured our ramen. The tan tan men was so damn tasty. Had a good kick. Broth was rich and flavorful. And I especially loved the pickled ginger bits; they added a good balance to the bowl. I drank all of the broth and finished my ramen first, which meant I got to take my Daddy Tax and taste everyone else's ramen too. It's tough to go from a spicy broth to a less spicy one though, but the tonkotsu and miso ramens were both just as tasty. The service was very attentive and we were lucky to get seated right away. Since we were a party of 5, we were seated at a large middle table that's shared with other patrons, which gave this place a nice, community feeling. I think I won't post things like this because people can make mistakes. But if you make the same mistake twice, you should improve yourself. This is the third time I've come to this restaurant because I like the taste and the quiet atmosphere. I went with my friend and we ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen and a Tantan Ramen. 1. My friend ordered the Tonkotsu, but the server placed a Tantan in front of him without saying anything. As I mentioned, this is only our third time here and we're not very familiar with the menu yet. And this is the Tantan that we got to go. If you work at this restaurant, you would know this is not Tantan. Do you know why? Where's the ground chicken?, and the soup I get not spicy at all as Tan tan should taste!!! So the to-go order was wrong as well. I guess there won't be a fourth time--I won't be coming back.
