Chicken Rice Cheeky Broth
Francis D.

Went here for lunch with the temperature of about 100 degrees outside. I wanted to try the chicken broth which I heard was good and something else . I got the broth and the chicken rice. The chicken rice bowl was small but filling. Good flavor. The cheeky broth was flavorful and gave me my fix for the soup. Service was quick and friendly.

Eat your egg soon, I waited too long getting the kids set up and it cooked thicker than it probably should have been.

We came in on a Saturday around noon. There are self order kiosks for to go orders and QR codes at the tables for dine in. Service is prompt and friendly. The dining area is clean and maintained. Single restroom, that was also clean and maintained. We ordered the bold Ramen with pork/egg, and a classic Ramen chicken/egg with an extra side of noodles, and a side of furikake fries. This was enough to feed two adults and three children The Ramen was good, but pricier than other comparable or preferred Ramen shops I have been to. The pork seemed dry and tougher than I like in a broth dish. The fries are thin and crunchy. The furikake is served on the side for you to pour over the fries. This part seemed a little redundant, I didn't really understand why the furikake isn't just poured on already. We did enjoy the fries though, the furikake adds a sweet crunch. I don't think I would go out of my way to come again, but if I had an appointment in the area and really had to have Ramen immediately it would make sense.

First time visiting, there's indoor & outdoor seating. Order at the kiosk & they'll bring your food to your table. We enjoyed the bold ramen, gluten free old skool ramen & the sparkling yuzu white peach. The food was good but overpriced & small. They have a rewards program & on dodger game days you get 20% off your entire order if you wear dodger gear, win or lose.

If you are looking for good ramen this is the place. Pasadena has many great choices but this places but this is one of my favorites. Although seats are limited and prices are on the high side, the service is great and you do not have to wait long for your meal. I usually go with the Bold Ramen mild. Noodles are delicious, broth extra tasty, servers always attentive. Give it a try.

Old Skool Ramen with pork and a perfect Tatsu Egg
Nadeen T.

My wife and I were out running errands and stopped by at the last minute to hit my ramen craving. I ordered the Old Skool with pork in a velvety broth, and a perfect Tatsu Egg, plus 3 types of chili on the side with a kick that rang my bells. Definitely ramen with a soul. It was so GOOD! I also got a side of fried rice because it reminds me of the one my grandma used to make with just the right amount of everything. I also love the self order screens with all of the options to choose all of my favorite items We'll be back!

This is actually a less than 10 min walk away so very convenient location but they also have a parking lot as well. It was one of the few spots that was still open when I was hungry for something late at night after 10pm. Those are 2 big pluses. Interior is clean and they've got some high top seating and table top as well. Service was ok, didn't get checked on much and they didn't refill water proactively. They have an order pad for you to make your selections at the front so if you prefer a full service establishment this is not it. I didn't mind it tho. I ordered the bold ramen and you can make modifications to how you want it which I like since I'm not a fan of green onions. I think their add ons are way too expensive (nearly $3 each for corn and mushrooms?!) on top of a $20 base ramen? If you want egg or more meat you're looking at $4+ so your bowl of ramen could easily top $40 which is outrageous. For the quality that is where I don't think the price point matches. Can't help but compare to another ramen spot in Pasadena which has tremendous broth that is full bodied with super tender chashu pork. I would really only come back because it's still pretty decent and it's open late. But there is better ramen elsewhere and for better value.

Sooo let me tell you their ramen is super delicious. We order 3 bowls of ramen and all of them were good. Service was also quick, after placing your order on the kiosk, pick your own table then the server will come and get you your utensils and your drinks if you ordered them. Ambiance was nice, really cute and cozy, an extra point is that they're open really late so definitely help a lot when you need a hot bowl of ramen. The only thing that holding this place back probably their pricing. 3 bowls of ramen and 3 drinks came out $100 definitely a bit on the pricey side.

Personally, I thought their ramen was delicious. I don't eat ramen often (except for the Korean packaged ones at home). Ramens never impressed me until I tried Tatsu Ramen. The place itself is small, but cozy and clean. You order digitally first and get seated. You can choose your ramen, broth, meat, and add extra sides. The place was busy when we went last night, but they were able to seat us right away. My daughter and I shared ramen and furikake fries. Their bold ramen with pork was SO good. Absolutely loved their broth, and their pork was nice and fatty. I also liked their noodles and flavor. Furikake fries are new on their menu, but definitely worth ordering. I could not stop eating them, they were so good. We added pork slices on top, and it was just the right touch. For the quality and taste of their ramen, I would come back and do not mind paying $20 for the bowl. It was the perfect meal for a rainy day.

Bold Ramen (no egg).

I've had the rice bowls here and liked them. Today I ordered the Bold Ramen. So delicious! Not overly complicated but lots of good slow cooked flavor. Noodle is beautifully chewy and thin. The pork has a delicious char (reminds me of carnitas) the soup can be made as spicy as you like (reminded me of pozole). Will definitely have this again and a

Great place to lunch Amazing service! Waiter was super attentive and very kind. Always approached us with a smile. The place was a little chilly inside but that's just personal preference, otherwise it's a cute little spot and very clean. Their ramen is delicious and the extra portions you get are big enough to share. Worth mentioning, this location has a restroom with a slide door that has a gap so it makes me hesitant to use the restroom but I would come back for ramen.

How does this place compare to Hironori? This is probably the most expensive ramen I've seen which is fine, but looking for comparisons.

Go to Hironori. This place just doesn't match in quality

I see that all but the vegan ramen contain shellfish. Is it possible to order it without? I'm allergic.

Hi! Unfortunately, we cannot remove the shellfish. The Hippie and Naked Ramen do not contain shellfish though!

Hi I have a nut allergy and just want to check before coming does your ramen have nuts in broth or toppings? Thx

Hi Dave! None of our ramen or sides on the menu contain nuts.

Are you no longer offering gluten free noodles?

Hi Hope! Unfortunately like many other restaurants at the moment, we’re experiencing some supply chain issues. We’re working hard to get your gluten free noodles back in stock! Please check with us again soon!

Can we reserve the outdoor seating ahead of time to dine at Tatsu?

Hi Lianna! Currently, the outdoor tables are first come, first serve. When we reopen for table service, the host will seat guests at tables based on our waitlist, which guests can sign up for when they arrive at the restaurant. Thank you!

Is there indoor and/or outdoor seating available right now amongst the pandemic?

Hi Lianna! We currently have limited outdoor seating available for guests to enjoy their takeout orders at. We are making plans to reopen table service in the near future! Please check us out on Instagram @tatsuramen for updates! Thank you!

Is the ramen Japanese or Korean style?

Hi Hana! Our ramen is Japanese style and we have both traditional (Old Skool) and fusion options!

Are the servings big?

I'd say medium, as ramen goes. Maybe even a little on the small side.

How much parking is available? And what kind of parking (free, meter, etc?

There's a huge free parking lot right in front of the restaurant. Parking is never an issue there 🙂

Are they open for lunch?

Hi is there an opening day coming up soon?

Hello, we’re planning on opening before the end of the month! We’re almost there, hang tight!

Is there an official opening date yet? I've been salivating over this Yelp page for over a month!

Hi Courtney! Thanks so much for your interest in our Pasadena location! We’re getting closer to opening but still about a month away. Stay tuned for that ‘opening soon’ sign to be taken off our yelp name!

Is this open? What are the hours?

Not open yet. I messaged the owner on here last week and he said late April/May. I 😊 can't wait. 😋 nom nom

How come it's taking so long to know an exact open date? I think many others are anticipating an actual date?

It's open.

When is the opening date? Thank you for your prompt response! We went last night 😅…

Hi JW! Thank you for your interest in our ramen! We’re working on opening ASAP but we’re still a few weeks away. Please watch for the opening soon sign to be taken off our name. Thank you again!

Do they have vegetarian options? Can someone post a menu photo?

They do have vegetarian options. They have a "hippie ramen". Menu can be found online as it's the same for all LA locations

What are the hours of this location? I went and it was closed during lunch

We tried the yuzu shio ramen and the karaage chicken curry rice bowl. The yuzu shio ramen was definitely lighter and more citrusy because of the yuzu, which I can appreciate, though it wasn't necessarily my preferred ramen flavor profile. I ordered it with chicken instead of pork, and I really appreciated that the karaage chicken came on the side so it stayed crispy and didn't get soggy in the broth. My partner really enjoyed the karaage chicken curry rice bowl. We also tried the tamagoyaki appetizer for the first time. Interesting flavor profile, but honestly it didn't really pair well with the rest of what we ordered, so we ended up taking most of it home and never really finishing it. Service was attentive and good, and the restaurant had a lively, active atmosphere with a steady crowd inside. Overall, a solid ramen place that's worth trying, especially if you enjoy lighter ramen styles.

I can't speak for them, but I will say, if you order the tsukemen and find that you want more dipping broth, that will be an extra charge. Order a regular bowl of ramen if you do not plan to dip the brothless noodles into the broth for each bite. BF and I both tried the spicy tuna bowl ($7.95), chashu bowl ($8.95), and tonkotsu ramen ($15.95). The bowls are a little smaller than the ramen bowls and are a great option if you want a light meal without feeling super full. The tonkotsu ramen had a slightly rich broth that was flavorful and a decent portion of noodles. We opted not to order the ramen with the egg since we were also trying the rice bowls. The miso ramen had a very strong white miso flavor. Didn't hate it, as I do love miso, but it was a little too much miso for my liking. Typical curly ramen and it was cooked well. Loved the jammy egg too. It was a soy marinated egg. There were also three pieces of chashu too! It was good, but slightly overcooked. The portion of the ramen was medium sized and was surprised they didn't bring a smaller size since it was a set meal. But happy they were generous! Spicy tuna don was a small bowl, but they gave a good portion of spicy tuna, which was delicious. Chicken karaage were two pieces of chicken and it was just okay.
