Regular ramen with spicy oil. My companion loves spicy.

I thought the service was great inspite of the fact there is only one server. For one, it was late evening. I was embarrassed my credit card won't process. Just forgot that I froze my cards to avoid unauthorized purchases. Eventually worked. The server understood. The place is quaint and I like the feel of comfortably eating my dinner. The place is nice for a small joint. The ramen I ordered was good. Just not enough. I loved the ingredients and just right amount for me. I'm sure I'll come back.

Modan ramen combo with chicken teriyaki

It's a hot night in Glendale but decided to try this local ramen shop and I must say it's worth it. Decided to order the Modan ramen combo which comes with a beautiful salad and a choice between different selections I got the teriyaki chicken. I was surprised to get served so much food, ended up taking the teriyaki home for lunch tomorrow. The ramen broth was light yet flavorful, the pork tender and the noodles perfectly cooked. The owner Alyse was wonderful and very sweet... she took my order and right away I got the salad while she prepared the rest of the meal. Loved the tasteful food and wonderful music. Please pay her a visit and support this amazing small shop.

What a great find in eagle Rock! A small place along Colorado blvd and quite the artsy interior. We came out on a somewhat cool Late Saturday night. Welcoming and immediately took our order. Post the tongue, Katsu and chicken Ramen soup based and Ramen itself are good. Very filling and a good size portion on a regular size. The only comment I have is that the tonKatsu was a bit overcooked where it was almost tough or crunchy in texture, which is not what I'm used to. The seaweed salad was a good portion with some lettuce underneath a good starter side to have Parking is in a very small lot might get full on a busy day or night. Will definitely come back again, and maybe the tonTakatsu will not be cooked so well done.

Spicy ramen, spicy tuna bowl, pork belly bowl, and salad! Sooo good

been coming here for years. the ramen is always so flavorful and rich. portions are big, and you can add a rice bowl and make it a combo. i love the poke here with spicy tuna. i order ahead on clover for pick up or call my order if i'm getting it to go. i love their chandelier here. you gotta check it out for yourself. there's about 5-6 tables inside so it's not too big so there could be a wait if they're busy. happy regular here :)

First time back since pre-Covid. Went on a Sat evening for dinner and luckily we were able to snag the last table. Parking lot was full and had to park in the residentials but no biggie. Original tonkatsu broth had depth. Noodles were al dente and the two pork slices were generous. It was a tad overcooked so was a bit chewy but flavorful nonetheless. If you're in the mood for spice, the spicy option does the trick. If you're hungry, opt for the combo for $7 more. It's a small establishment so would be a challenge to accommodate a large party. Service was a little on the slow side that night but the meal was well worth it.

The parking lot gets busy as it's for several businesses in the plaza. Come early to get a spot. Wife and I got brussel sprouts for appetizer and it was really delicious with the garlic aoli. Definitely get the brussel sprouts. Original modan ramen is delicious with the long hours of cooked pork broth. It's creamy, rich, warm perfect when the weather is a bit cold. A definite must! Come check out the place and get yourself some delicious ramen that you will remember for days

Really cute little ramen restaurant in Eagle Rock that's deserving of your business. I've had this spot bookmarked on Yelp for a while now and was able to swing by for a late night Monday dinner. Modan is located in a super small strip mall off the main drag. Thankfully the signage was well lit and it was easy to find. Parking though might be your biggest hurdle like with anyplace this side of town. Parking spots in front of Modan were taken so we did have to park slightly further away down in the strip mall but that was fine. It's a narrow small strip mall with only one side for parking so spaces fill up. Ramen is competitive in LA so while the ramen was very tasty and in my home town would likely be closer to 5 stars, basing them out of being in LA with so many options I would say Modan is a solid 4 stars all day long which isn't bad at all. The ramen here was tasty, the inside was cute. And our waitress while busy, was friendly. That would be my little upgrade is maybe having two staff working the front for dinner service as it got busy but I also get this is a small restaurant. We just noticed our waitress got pulled for a lot of phone calls and takeaway orders which didn't allow her to be as attentive to her six tables of diners BUT she definitely tried her best and kept a smile on her face throughout the whole experience. Sorry I didn't catch her name but she worked hard and hustled. The ramen here is flavorful and an amazing portion size for $16. My friend and I both went with the classic tonkotsu ramen and it was super good. The broth was rich but not overdone. The noodles were some of my favorite as they were light and bouncy. I thought it was a great classic ramen done well. Huge portion, you'll likely have leftovers. Also appreciated when we asked for chili oil she brought us out a massive pourer for the oil. Love it. If you are on this side of town Modan is a great option for some no frills, tasty, and comforting ramen.

I come here often and I always order one thing: the Original Modan Ramen. It is consistently good and rich in flavor. Ramen is one of the ultimate comfort foods, but at many places it's super heavy and on the salty side (not necessarily a bad thing, though). The ramen here is light without sacrificing any of the taste. I'm not left feeling bloated or strung out in a food coma. Aside from the broth, the pork really makes the dish. It's seasoned well, tender, and seared on both sides. I wish I knew how they made it. Some nights it can get quite busy in the dining room and for carryout. I wish they'd hire more employees!

We visited this ramen spot for Saturday lunch after seeing some great reviews, and my kids--big ramen fans--were excited to try it. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but parking in the plaza was a bit of a challenge. The staff was friendly and attentive, though it could be tough to get their attention when they were in the back. Ramen bowls are priced around $16, which seems pretty standard these days. The portions were reasonable, and the side dishes stood out as really tasty. The broth, however, wasn't as rich or flavorful as some other ramen places we've tried, which is why I'm giving it four stars instead of five. That said, we still had a very good overall experience, and we'd definitely consider coming back!

It's a small venue, but great food.

I'm very particular about choosing the ideal ramen place and this is the place I have picked. The fact that they are accommodating in serving my chashu meat crispy is everything to me. In addition, service is impressive. Courteous & hard working sweet staff are the only people they employ. When I dine here, it feels like home. The ambiance is homy and you'll always manage to find parking as people often come & go. A huge thumbs up on this place that is nestled in the heart of Eagle Rock which is next door to Glendale city.

They do have vegan ramen - and while I've never had it myself, my partner has and he said it was excellent. They also have tons of veggie add-ins which make it more exciting.

I remember going here during their grand opening ages ago, did their, back then, super cheap deal with unlimited noodle refill (even further discounted due to the special event day) and eating to the point of barely being able to sit up in the car without throwing up. I have a picture of my brother eating here in middle school with us and then later on in his early 20's. Crazy time lapse, and truly shows what a favorite this place is and it's place in the community. As with all businesses in Little Tokyo, parking can suck (not as bad as K-town, but you're either paying or super circling around). Service is super efficient, welcoming and polite, as with their other locations as well. It's not the biggest restaurant, but none of the Shinsengumis I've been to have been particularly large. With this location, from my first visit, and all the subsequent visits, I always get their Hakata ramen, firmer noodles, since the longer I eat and enjoy the food, they'll soften a bit, less soup oil and less saltiness. I get all of the toppings that it comes with and I always add in a poached egg. Love the strong pork flavor since they stew their broth for so long and the tenderness of the chashu (sometimes I order more). Prices have definitely gone up and a slightly altered upgraded version of this ramen is almost $30 if you're not careful enough. Times have changed but how good this place hasn't. There's more ramen options now than there were like 10 years ago, but Shinsengumi is always a classic.

Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.
