    Sausage fried rice

I liked it. Was craving some pho in this cold rainy weather and this place hit the spot. Inside is simply decored, with a few tables for seating. A good place for small groups. I got the rare steak pho and it was good! Exactly what I needed. Their fried rices are pretty good too. They also have a few Thai dishes, rice and noodles, and even some banh mi on the menu. So I'll definitely be coming back to get more. Service was good. Friendly staff. There's a small lot in front but it fills up fast. Otherwise there's street parking within a block or two.

One of our favorite neighborhood spots! The staff is so friendly and the food is fresh and tasty. Especially recommend the Thai tea, sweet and sour chicken, and mango sticky rice! They also have the tv on with good music playing so the vibes are always excellent.

    presentation was cool i guess.

I usually hate leaving low ratings, but Pho District Cafe in Eagle Rock was... underwhelming. I went in hoping for a comforting, authentic bowl of pho, but the broth was bland and lacked real flavor not what pho should taste like. It didn't have that rich, aromatic depth you expect from traditional pho broth, and honestly felt more like flavored hot water. Several folks on Yelp have echoed similar thoughts, saying the pho didn't live up to expectations and that the broth was nothing special or memorable. On top of that, other reviewers mentioned things like inconsistent quality big portions of noodles but barely any meat in some bowls which just adds to the disappointment when the star of a pho meal should be that bold, beefy broth. There are some positive reviews where people enjoyed the vibe and some of the other dishes, but if you're coming here specifically for pho that tastes like pho, be prepared to be let down. This place has potential, but the broth needs WAY more flavor and authenticity to compete with the great pho spots around town. (I'd honestly recommend trying elsewhere for real pho that hits.)

    Beef Bahn Mi

Came in and was seated immediately in a beautiful and clean restaurant. The waitress was very sweet and attentive, and the food came out fast. I was recommended the Beef Bahn Mi, but wasn't particularly impressed. While the sandwich looks impressive, the bread and beef were both dry and bland, being propped up by mayonnaise. The flavor was also lacking, as the sandwich didn't include a lot of the iconic pickled veggies, just a bit of shredded carrot. For $18 after tax and tip, I left disappointed.

I tried the Pho Dac Biet here and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. I'm pretty particular about where I go, so I was initially hesitant because I noticed they also feature Thai-inspired dishes and I wondered if the pho would taste different. But I'm happy to report that the broth was consistent and satisfying. It wasn't as hearty or beefy as some other places, but it was flavorful enough to satisfy my pho cravings and definitely hit the spot! It's served with a nice platter of beansprouts, basil, and jalapenos, along with the usual array of sauces at the table. The portion of meat wasn't as generous as I would have hoped for but still filling after I had finished the bowl. The service was friendly and attentive. The staff checked in to see if I needed anything and made sure to refill my water, which was much appreciated. The prices were a little on the higher side, but considering I wasn't in the mood to drive all the way to Chinatown or the SGV for pho, this place was more than adequate. It was fairly busy for a Sunday afternoon, but I think there's plenty of parking in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. Although this place has a Thai influence, the Pho Dac Biet was legit and definitely good enough to make me want to come back. Thank you, Pho District Cafe. I can't wait to return to have more of that delicious Pho.

Pho was piping hot! The portion is huge and could easily be shared with 2 people. Meat was tender and the broth was flavorful.

I finally got a chance to try this place and ordered a variety of items: pho, papaya salad, sausage fried rice, spring rolls, chai tea, and Thai iced coffee. Starting with the pho -- the broth was a bit bland on its own, but once I added the condiments and herbs, it came together nicely. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. Next was the sausage fried rice. The sausage itself was sweet and flavorful, but the rice lacked a bit of seasoning. Decent, but nothing standout -- 6/10. The pot su was good, but nothing particularly memorable. Solid, just not special -- 7/10. The spring rolls were large and filling. Paired with the peanut sauce, they were enjoyable, though still fairly standard. I'd rate them an 8/10. The papaya salad was my least favorite. I've had papaya salad many times before, and this one was a bit too hard and crunchy for my taste. The acidity was there, which I liked, but the spice level was very mild -- I could barely taste any heat. Overall, 5/10. On a positive note, the interior aesthetics were really nice. I loved the artwork and drawings on the walls -- very inviting atmosphere. The customer service was excellent as well. We were greeted right away and taken good care of throughout our visit. Even though some dishes were hit or miss, I would definitely come back and give this place another chance.

I was excited to eat here because of the stars and great reviews. Uggh. Had lunch today with my daughter. I ordered pho with just tendon, tripe, brisket. She ordered rare steak and tendon pho. So disappointed. The soup. Normally pho soup is slowed cooked and you can taste it. Flavor was a 1. They put alot of noodles but i had 1 piece of brisket! I had to ask them what happened?! So they gave me 5 small pieces. Then barely any tendon! Upsetting since its $18. They packed it with tripe. My 16 yr old daughter felt the exact same. She had barely any meeeeeat and tendon!!! She said it was ok, but Not good. The veggie rolls were only ok nothing special. I had the iced Vietnamese coffee it was good. She had water. For her and i for lunch with a tip it was $74. :-/ Wont be back. Cute place, nice lady (staff), clean, but won't be back unfortunately. 4 thumbs down.

Met some love you long time friends here for lunch. Same great vibe as the previous restaurant that occupied this space before. Tasteful contemporary decor and some really nice tranquil ambient music coming from the big screen with a zen image behind the service station. Our server was very pleasant and kept our water glasses full. We tried the pork jerky, a couple orders of different eggs rolls, the khao soi noodle soup, which I had read a rave review here on Yelp so had to try. Honestly it fell a little flat for me, but was too spicy for my friend next to me. I didn't care for the artist arrangement on the top that was both crunch and soggy. The fried rice was light and flavorful. It was a healthy portion and took some home and made a meal from the leftovers. Lunch for all of us including tip was $25 each which is a great value. None of my buddies were fans of eggplant, so we didn't order it. I will def come back with a dif posse to try that and some other items on the menu. And if you need one, pop in next door to George's for a hair cut. We met my friend at this restaurant after her appointment and she looked great!

    Delicious Beef Khao Soi
    Sophia A.

Wow, we were seriously impressed, 10/10. Ever since our trip to Thailand last fall we've been on the hunt for the best Khao Soi, going as far as OC. We've tried a hand full of well known, highly reviewed, popular spots, but Pho District Café blew them out of the water. We came in for lunch on a Wednesday and the place was quiet, which was surprising considering how good everything was. The pork jerky was tasty (especially with the chili sauce), and the fried wontons were insanely crunchy, the perfect texture. We got a side of rice too, and it was a big sharing portion. My husband got the coconut palm drink and it honestly tasted like Southeast Asia in a bottle; sweet, nostalgic, and sooo refreshing over ice. I ordered the Vietnamese drip iced coffee and it was super strong but creamy! Now for the main event: the Khao Soi. It was perfecttttt. Broth was spot on with flavor, not too peanutty or too thick like some versions, and not too overly tangy or thin either. It had a solid level of spice already, but we added a bit more heat and it took it to the next level. The noodles were thick and al dente, just like what we had in Chiang Mai at our favorite Michelin guide spot, and all the toppings were also right. I got the beef, comes with sliced brisket thinner cut, but still super flavorful and honestly better than some "fancier" versions I've tried. I'd just ask for the crispy noodles on the side next time to keep them crunchy longer. Service was great! Super friendly and checked in with us a few times asking if we were happy, full, they went out their way to make sure we were satisfied. Interior is so cute with the spray painted lanterns art and signage, I would come in just for nice coffee and book tbh. I've seen a couple reviews about wait times, but honestly, they're still relatively new, so I say give them a little grace! Good food is worth the wait in my opinion! Our food came out fast but I'd still wait, people need to chill out? Haha Already planning to come back and bring the fam and try other dishes. If you're craving Khao Soi or just want solid Vietnamese/Thai comfort food, this spot is a gem.

Hubby wanted Vietnamese and I want Thai, thus here we are again... The large bowl of pho was delicious, but I enjoyed the Thai iced tea, the shrimp pad thai, was slightly tart, wished it was a hint sweeter but it was tasty! Hubby loves the pork jerky, reminds him of his mother's cooking! The chicken wings appetizer had flavor - sweet and spicy!

    Tai pho
    Joshua O.

On Feb 2, I ordered the tai pho I think. It was really good, everything was proportional so I had my fill of meat, noodles, and soup. I'd order here again. Service was great because we asked for napkins and received them. Ambiance was nice. Music was playing in the background.

Given the choice between inside and the patio we chose the patio which has be bit more vibe. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. I can't believe it's been 12 years--and I'm so happy to say it was every bit as incredible as I remembered. My friend and I came for lunch. I ordered the vegetable pho, and she had the curry rice. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whether you're vegan or not, this place is truly outstanding. Five stars without hesitation!

She said the house salad was better the last time she came bc the lettuce was different. She recalled it was Romaine lettuce last time. This time it was a green salad. I had the lemongrass fish which was made of soybean. It was a little too dry and rubbery for me. I kept putting it in my soup with rice to make it taste better, but ran out of soup. I won't be ordering this dish again. I took half home, cut up the soybean fish and added it to a stew. I didn't mention to my server that it was my bday, but was disappointed that he didn't even offer like regular servers do, "Would you like to see the dessert menu?" I didn't tell him it was my bday nor did I ask for the dessert menu bc I wasn't the one paying the bill. Not that I needed dessert, but it would've been nice to have been asked. When I mentioned this to another server who came by to clear our table that our server didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and that the restaurant doesn't seem to want to push its desserts, he quickly brought us a dessert menu, but my friend was already paying our bill - too late! It would've been nice to be asked earlier. I even had candles in my bag just in case we got dessert. Anyway, this server said he'll tell our server about not offering dessert. The next day I came back with another friend after a Music Center event. My server from the day before recognized me. This time he asked us at the start before we ordered or after we had just ordered whether we'd like to see the dessert menu. Huh? Ask at the END not start of a meal! Instead of embarrassing him, I told him, "No, thanks. My bday was yesterday." On this second day, my friend and I shared a Chinoise salad (delicious and refreshing!) and paella (not like a paella, a little too wet and granular for our taste, but healthy - a living food dish). We had mint and lemon water for both meals. $12 parking in the adjacent structure. Free parking passes at the Music Center if you're a season ticket holder or good luck with finding street parking. I'd still continue to occasionally patronize this restaurant when I have Music Center events bc I want to support veganism, the restaurant; however, I was disappointed with some of the food and waitstaff this weekend. I'd suggest that the waitstaff go thru customer training on when/what/how to talk to customers. The menu had a lot of options and priced like all other places or I'm just getting used to the prices these days. They did have a lunch special for $20 and you can get a small pho, and then some other choices and then a drink. I couldn't tell you what the other choices were because I didn't order it. The waitress was efficient and got the job done. She did get a little overwhelmed since after 1230pm, everyone decided to grab lunch. Here's what we ordered: lunch special with small bowl of beef pho, a beef banh mi and unsweetened black tea. The hubs said that his pho was decent, the flavor was simple and didn't have that deep rich flavoring like other pho bowls he has had. The banh mi had great bread and the filling was pretty flavorful. The black tea was good. I had the build your own pho because I have to have vegetable broth but I added in chicken meatballs and shrimp. The broth was pretty tasteless so I had to add in some hoisin sauce, and sriracha. There were other condiments but I was too lazy to grab it from the other table. That helped out with the soup. The chicken meatballs were questionable as in I wasn't sure if it was chicken. There were plenty of shrimp and they added pieces of chicken. The noodles had a nice chew to them. Overall the pho was okay but it didn't hit the pho craving/spot. We also ordered pork egg rolls and they were interesting. They weren't crunchy at all. It was a bit oily and at one point, I wasn't sure if a part of it was cooked. There was more other filling than meat. The nuoc mam tasted like watered down fish sauce. I guess I was so hungry that I didn't mind it. Overall, the food was just okay. Nothing exciting to report and unfortunately I wouldn't go back.

It comes with chilies and fish sauce for you to pour on top. The rice cakes are served warm and are super smooth and soft. The thai chilies it comes with are spicy so don't use too much. The vermicelli with nem nuong and egg rolls comes with a slab of meat and a whole egg roll. The bottom are the noodles and mix of veggie and herbs. The nem nuong is sweetened charbroiled pork that is grilled. Think of a sweet meat ball. The egg rolls are super crispy and filled with meat. The noodles go well with the fish sauce and there are a lot of veggies inside. The nem nuong coun is a spring roll that's wrapped in rice paper. It has the meat and lettuce wrapped inside and comes with a dipping sauce. I believe the sauce is made with ground shrimp. For $8 for 3 rolls it is a steal compared to other restaurants. If you are craving Brodards in OC this place can satisfy your craving. Their che ba mau which is a 3 bean dessert has a lot of beans inside topped with coconut milk and shaved ice. It is the person drink to finish your meal and it is not too sweet.

CASH ONLY! Definitely a mom and pop spot, they have tables to dine in but it's one of those spots…read moreI'd prefer to take to-go and enjoy in the comfort of my own home. Com Tam is decent, rice texture is on point. Pork chop is marinated well but not enough lemongrass flavor, tender and not dry at all. Baked egg was good but not amazing, seemed like it missing shredded wood ear mushroom. Che Ba Mau by far hands down the worst I've had. Red bean wasn't soft, outer shell/skin was still pretty tough. Not much mung bean either after stirring it literally for about 4 seconds the mung bean basically disintegrated into the liquid. The liquid.. watered down skim milk, not a trace of coconut flavor anywhere. I didn't know you can mess up Che Ba Mau until I had it from here.
