Started off with the Matcha IPA beer (green deliciousness, a bit strong on the hop + matcha so beware), and ordered a few appetizers to start--edamame, karaage, seared albacore with onions, yellowtail jalapeño, ceviche (omg so good), shishito peppers--everything was amazing! And we were off to a great start. We ordered a few rolls, and sushi, and hadn't realized that each portion came with 2 pieces so we definitely ate a lot. Everything was very fresh, and the quality was amazing. As if it couldn't be better, the service was superb! So, my daughter saw this place on TikTok and had to try this place. It was happen to be a really scorching hot day, Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was pretty empty due to the extreme hot weather. We ordered the lunch specials and they were really fresh and delicious. (like their restaurant name) The server lady was very friendly and answered the questions that my daughter had. I accidently left my key after the lunch and they kept it safely for me. This restaurant deserve more business and highly recommend. Oishi is a solid local sushi joint on Brand Blvd near the heart of downtown Glendale. We visited on a Tuesday for lunch, getting a signature roll ($19), a 3 item bento box with sushi, salmon teriyaki, and nigiri ($23) and shared a mango Nigori sake bottle ($22). The sushi was freshly made, of excellent quality, a little spicy where it was supposed to be, and delicate. The salmon teriyaki was fairly standard, as was the miso soup, salad, and rice. Our waitress was very attentive (we were the only ones in the restaurant that early Tuesday afternoon), while the inside was clean and beautiful. I especially liked the canopied booths in the traditional Japanese Akachochin alley style. Prices are a little elevated, but value can be found in the Bento box and lunch specials. A Google and Yelp search brought this gem to my attention, and we were immediately seated on a Monday evening. We were slightly overwhelmed with the extensive menu, and our server made a couple of excellent recommendations to start. The 'big eye' and the jumbo scallop special were outstanding. Very unique flavors and textures which set the tone for the remainder of the meal. These were followed by the shrimp tempura rolls, crab rolls, and vegan and avocado rolls. All were above and beyond. What it is is consistently good, comfortable, and reliable. The quality of the sushi is solid, the fish is fresh, and they carry a great selection of alcohol--including MIO sake, which is surprisingly hard to find elsewhere. It was taking a while to get our food and after complaining that's when they started bringing out the sushi rolls we ordered. Throughout our dining experience we were never checked up on if we needed drink refills or anything like that. After finally getting all of the food we ordered we ate the food. Then after eating we saw a cockroach. The cockroach was a big street one that was about to touch my friends. Once the bill came we told them about the cockroach and the staff said that was out of their control since it came outside they couldn't control it. After the staff noticed our dissatisfaction with the service we received they forced an 18% tip due to our "party size". They said since we had 6 people in our party they had to force an 18% tip. However I've been to this restaurant before with 6 people in my party and they have never implemented this rule before. The sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. My husband and I ordered four rolls. I'll name them from the most liked by us to the least. Let's start with the Rising hamachi roll, lemon roll, Sara roll and salmon in and out roll. We enjoyed our lunch with a bottle of iced cold Asahi beer. We've been here a few times. Last time, we came here because the wait at another restaurant was too long. I don't remember this place being that bad, but I was a little surprised during this last visit. We had a bigger party of family and friends, and I got to try a little bit of several dishes The sushi was unimpressive. The salmon was decent. Everything else was dry (dry sushi?!) and tasted pretty bad. Aside from the salmon, I've never had sushi this unappetizing before, from higher end sushi places to the cheapest buffet or hole in the wall joints. It was almost impressively horrible. My salad was bland and very basic: a few pieces of greens with some dressing splashed on. My miso soup was room temperature--almost cold, which was a new one for me. I had some teriyaki beef, which I couldn't finish. And sampled some rolls which were equally terrible. Everything was dry. Moreover, the service was surprisingly poor as well--they were friendly, but we had to keep asking for basic stuff like table settings, wasabi, ginger, water, etc. It wasn't just that we had to request these things, but that we had to ask several times for just about everything. The decent salmon sushi and the friendliness of the staff (even though they weren't great at bringing things) saves this place from being one star. But I don't plan on coming back. read more

Oishii means delicious, and this place is aptly named. Fantastic Japanese fare, beautiful interior, and warm and friendly staff. Had the bento with tempura, karaage, and crispy salmon skin roll, plus some of the specials. Try the Monkfish Liver, there's a reason they call it 'foie gras of the sea'. read more

There are a number of choices on North Brand Avenue. Found Oishi Sushi by accident, and I have learned to pay attention when lightning does strike. Chris and I enjoyed the chilled Kikushi Sake. Not sweet, but smooth, slightly nutty. In a word: fantastic. The sea bream was oustanding. As were the salmon carpaccio, and the oasis roll, and the pink lady roll. In fact, everything we tried, we loved (and even tried again). The highlight was the tuna tataki, however; fresh, firm, and sliced the right thickness. Our waiter whose name I forget (thanks to Chris and Kikushi Sake), made great recommendations and was suitably attentive (but not obsequiously so).
