All the food is amazing! My fav in particular is the Mac & Cheese. It's carby, cheesy, heart clogging comfort food goodness. Two normal people can gorge themselves on a single bowl. Flavorful gooey rigatoni, covered with a crispy baked crust..I love mine with jalapeno! Only downside is that there isn't a lot of restaurant seating. However, it's worth fighting over a table. The owner is oftentimes there, patronizing his own establishment and mingling with the customers. He is a lively and charismatic guy, to say the least, haha! Really, worth trying out. Several big screens for games. The seating is a little awkward when it's crowded because people have to share 2-3 big tables if there's no space at the bar. As far as the bar food niche goes the Banshee is at the top in chico. They offer food that should be featured on the show diners, drive-ins, and dives. Most people look straight to the Mac and cheese or the fish tacos, but got me the best thing on the menu is the Philly cheesesteak. I went in to ask for a menu and the owner of this bar yelled "NO" in my face rudely. He then drunkenly elbowed one of his waitresses in the face, I felt very bad that she was working for this disgusting man. Sad because all of the employees are so nice. One bad apple ruins it all. Let me start off by saying that one of my very best friends owns this place. So, if you want to stop reading now, go right ahead. I wanted to give an honest review of this place, and as much of unbiased one as possible...so here goes: I knew my buddy was going to put together a nice bar, but to be honest, this place exceeded all of my expectations. The food that I had - the Fish Tacos, Burgers, Pastrami Bomb, Oysters, Cobb Salad, handcut fries, etc. was absolutely amazing. Great presentation and taste. Probably the best Fish Tacos that I've ever had. If you are on a diet, there is nothing on this menu that I could recommend in my right mind. But if you want some stick to your ribs comfort food, you've come to the right place. I guess their prices are slightly higher than other places in Chico (but very fair for where I live), for good reason. This is a true "you get what you pay for" kind of bar. 16 beers on draft, including some that you rarely find anywhere (Im talking about you, Belhaven), and a loaded liquor bar. They just expanded (I never saw the place pre-expansion), and there is plenty of room to either mingle with the bar crowd up front, or get a table in the back with your buddies. It was cool to see the transition from "working crowd" during happy hour to mostly a younger, College-ey crowd by the time the curtain closes. Throw in some hustling bartenders, good music, eye candy, a great downtown location, and a bunch of 50 inch HD TVs (and 2 113 inch tvs that come down for big games) and you've got yourself everything that you could want in a bar. I would imagine that alot of towns have a bar like the banshee, but usually also have another "higher end" bar. Chico is not one of those towns. Most of the bars there have carpets on their floors, smell like fresh vomit thanks to all the cheap booze going around, feature slow service, and play their music too loud. You won't find any of these things at the Banshee. So, that's my review. If you disagree, then chime in...this place RULES. read more

Great food for great prices. everything on the menu is really good but a few of my favorties are the Philly cheese steak sandwich, the Reuben, and the fish tacos. The food is delicious but I think being a complete bitch is a requirement to work here and I'm not just talking about this one specific time.. We sat down and it took at least 15 mins to get menus. The waitress threw them down on the table and walked away without even asking if we wanted drinks and we didn't see her for at least another 15 mins. At the end of our meal we asked for the check. We were a party of 4 and she refused to split our bill(whatever) but as we were explaining what cards needed to be charged for what, the waitress yanked the pen out of my friends hand and said she'd figure it out. All 4 of us are bartenders and are great tippers but we also tip based on our experience and service. Needless to say that was the least amount of money we have EVER left for a tip. read more

This review is not about the food, it's about the service. I don't know if it's because we were college kids, but I've been around the food and service industry for most of my life and I was livid. Our party was six people and when we started to get our food, it took almost 15 minutes for one of the guys to receive his fish tacos. When they were finally brought out, we were all pretty much done, but the server argued with us that it was not late since some of us weren't actually done. Then at the end, we waited around 20 minutes to finally get our check, which we had to ask for. One guy in the group didn't want to get into a confrontation so he just paid it but we should have had the fish tacos taken off the bill, or some type of discount. Unacceptable service would not last in an actual metropolitan area, which this is obviously trying to emulate. read more
