I was told the pies were 10 inches. They were 9 and not deep at all. I spent $75 on 3 pies that were nothing special. The pumpkin was ridiculous as it was so small and thin and it had a few dollops of whipped cream on it, but a supermarket pie would have at least been thicker! The other 2 pies weren't much better. ( Apple and pecan) I'm new in town and this bakery came highly recommended. I'm very disappointed and won't go back. Very expensive pies, not worth it at all. read more

Ordered a cake from this bakery for my mother's birthday. We were really surprised by how bad the cake was and how high the price was. I think the bread I have had from there is pretty good. I won't order another cake from them. Their water or power was out when we stopped in and they made the cake that morning. I can only speak for the baked goods, but I'd say that they are relatively average in quality and taste compared to Wal-Mart and other chains in the area. Compared to bakeries I've been to in Germany (grew up there as a child), this place is not very good. We ordered a cake here and the buttercream icing was very good but alas the cake itself was dry. They'd do well to use more butter/oil in their batter. We ordered a raspberry chocolate mouse pastry which was also just average. It had a layer of the dry cake on the button which subtracted from the experience. The pumpkin cheesecake was decent. It tasted like a cream cheese pumpkin pie. I think it would have been better with a nice graham crust on the spine of the slice. It was not overly sweat, definitely less sweet than the cheesecake factory and of equal quality. The French baguette was a slight disappointment. It was not bad but it wasn't great. It's as good as what you get at local groceries. I should say it had a slight smell of sourdough, and that's not something I've ever experienced in France or in any bakery in Europe. read more

The Bakehouse has the absolute BEST Reuben sandwiches I have ever had! They make their own sauerkraut as well as the rye bread, and together, everything is absolutely delicious. Make sure to get the side salad, because their homemade salad dressing is divine! If you order to-go, you have to request for a side salad, because I believe it comes with a different side. I'm sure their other menu items are delicious, but I order their reuben sandwich every time because it is that incredible. If you are visiting, Bakehouse is located on a really quaint part of town where you can walk around and shop at the different stores and try some really delicious desserts a couple blocks down. This bakery has several selections of gourmet baked goods. My husband and I went in and purchased several desserts to do a little taste test. Almost all of them were a 10! The girl at the counter was super helpful in helping us make our selections and I am so grateful that she told us about her favorite: The Rasberry dark chocolate dome cake! It was my favorite as well. I wouldn't really classify it as a cake although it does have a thin layer of cake on the bottom. It has a kind of mousse as a filling, and is covered in a dark chocolate kind of ganache. Extremely tasty. I wish I got her name so that I could think her personally! You did a great job promoting each of your desserts, but I 100% agree with you on your favorite we also tried the cupcake of the day. It was a strawberry something. It was like a strawberry shortcake cupcake with fresh strawberries, whipped into whatever was in the filling. Absolutely delicious. The food was fair. They used a cheap brand of turkey on my sandwich and the bacon wasn't apple wood. The fruit was mushy and I could not eat it at all. My husband said his meal was just okay, panini and soup. The restaurant is run down and booths desperately need to be reupholstered. One booth was separated from the wall. What a Delight! Tucked away in quaint downtown Aberdeen this bakery and cafe is doing everything right. From the friendly staff to fresh eats ( OMG the garlic sauce- a must have) to scrumptious desserts, I couldn't be more pleased for this locally owned establishment. If you can, it is better to visit during the week or Saturday as most of the downtown shops are closed on Sundays. No time for lunch, not a problem, come swing by with your family and grab a coffee to go, sweet treat for later and walk this charming town. Update- June 22nd 1017 Stopped back at this adorable bakery for what was sure to be a fresh and scrumptious breakfast but perhaps my lunch experience had set the bar too high. My French toast, looked amazing, but was raw in the center. Not even the chocolate sauce they served with it could save the undercooked bread pudding they served. Also, beware the "served with fruit" is not a fruit cup or even a side item but an orange slice served with a strawberry in a tooth pick. Also, this time the coffee and cappuccino (machine made- not hand crafted) was terrible! It was hard to get down although the waitress was available to refill ( only nice when you enjoy the beverage). Overall, better for lunch than breakfast. read more

We usually have an absolutely pleasant experience here. This morning was an absolute disappointment. We came in behind an older gentleman who was immediately seated. We stood at the counter and waited for somebody to greet us. When the young lady told us someone will be right with us. We wanted to eat there so I then asked if it was okay if we could sit down and asked if I should order at the counter or if somebody will take our order. She told me somebody will be right there to take our order if we wanted to sit down. Meanwhile, the gentleman that we came in behind already has his coffee and drinks on his table. Over 5 minutes go by. Nobody has acknowledged us still. Finally, I get up and go to the counter where a young man working says, Ma'am I'll be right with you. I said we're just waiting to order. Should we sit down or order at the counter? He says I'll be right with you to take your order. You can sit down. So we sit down and we wait for another 5 minutes while he's just walking around seemingly ignoring us. By this time the gentleman that we came in with at the same time now has his entire meal and we haven't even ordered drinks let alone food. There was literally no one else there besides a family who was already eating. I feel that we were unimportant, ignored, and treated as inconveniences as customers. We ultimately ended up leaving without ever being asked our order...as a pregnant momma with a toddler it's not easy to pick up and go somewhere else. Paid a lot of $ for a sweet 16 cake only to have it delivered already melted and when he said "don't worry it will be fixed" he had actually left it the way it was and put a large rhinestone from my table decor to mask the dripping only to have it continue to drip and it never fixed the situation. Once in a while,​​​ one finds a gem in a weird town. Aberdeen is a strange town where Stranger Things may have been filmed but this place was really good. The sweets and the bread were​ really good. I was pleasantly surprised and I felt I was in a small German town. The lunch is quite quaint and the cakes almost sent me to the hospital because I couldn't stop eating them. This place has yet to disappoint me out of the two times I've went! I came to try the Barcelona burger because that's what everyone talks about. So the first time I came I arrived during breakfast time, so they weren't serving burgers. Their breakfast was pretty good. They had basic breakfast items: omelettes, sandwiches, quiches, etc. And their only meat choice was ham or egg. I had the ham and egg omelette and you can't really mess an omelette up so it was pretty good. Tried some of the quiche and that was pretty good too. The next day I tried their lunch. I started with their bread and garlic sauce. You could use the garlic sauce as a dip for anything! I used it for my bread, chips, and burger. I also tried their red pepper soup. It taste like a creamy tomato soup. Lastly I had the Barcelona burger. That is the best burger I've had. It beats hopps in Greensboro. Obviously this is a bakery too. The selection isn't that big but I was interested in everything they had on display. Their chocolate mouse is amazing. The staff are very nice sand welcoming as well. Food was horrible I found a hair in my salad. Saw a roach in the restroom. Over priced went to a baby shower a couple months ago and literally everyone was asking where the cake was from because it was so bad, badly decorated and just tasted bad the cake was old and dry nobody at the party took more than a single bite the mother to be (my sister in law) was so upset about it her husband went to Harris Teeter and got another cake and it tasted 1000 xs better!!!! Then I found out how much was paid for the cake my 10 year old could have decorated(over 100$) she was told by every single guest that she should get her money back. But I seriously doubt she did. I've gotten mixed reviews about the lunch at the bake house and was not expecting It to be inedible aswell. I'm highly dissatisfied with my experience and my sisters baby shower was in her words a disaster because she wanted to get a nice cake she said that she would have been better off just getting it from Harris teeter she said Walmart would've been a better choice I don't normally post reviews but I thought it was necessary considering the disgusting food they gave me today and of course I ordered the food and went back to the office to eat it I should have left when I seen the roach. Let me start by saying that I kinda have mixed reviews on this place due to my first time going. I won't go into a lot of details, but just know the service can be a hit or miss at times. However, if you can look past that, their Barcelona Burger is out of this world!!! I don't think they could change anything and it be any better....well maybe make it bigger Get the potato salad and sauerkraut for your sides. What a quaint little hidden gem in Aberdeen. My wife has taken her clients there several times, 1st for me. Lets start with the bakery, pleasing to the eye & counter full of goodness! They do a nice assortment of cakes, pastries and breads so it's a must do for weddings, birthdays or just a Monday. We had lunch today, her grilled chicken tossed salad was super fresh and deliciously full of all the good stuff. I had the Schnitzel sandwich with sauerkraut and potatoe salad as my 2 sides. It's German style salad and excellent! The sauerkraut was very light and crisp, very tasty. They cook to order so be patient, it's not a fast food place but oh so good. Servers were very attentive, they have a outdoor sitting area too. Street parking and some small parking areas near by too. Short walk to some really cool shops, old town charm. read more

At first glance, The Bakehouse seems like a peculiar place to eat a burger. Right when you walk in you're greeted by smiling faces and a display case of scrumptious looking desserts/baked goods. We decided to eat there for lunch.. the atmosphere was that of an old fashioned diner/bakery in a charming small town out of a novel. There's a large glass window inside the dining area where you can see the food being prepared and elaborate cakes being decorated. Very unique! I ordered their signature Barcelona burger. Everything about it was delicious! I don't know what their secret is.. maybe the spinach/onion baked into the burger? Or the flaky bun? Maybe the homemade garlic sauce? The house recommendation was the Barcenlona Burger! It was a nice helping of ground beef mixed with spinach and onions and then topped with a home made garlic sauce all on a home made bun and comes with chips for around $8.50. The trick here is trying to pay the bill without having to go by the baked goods counter. They have tons of delicious desserts and tried the Tiramisu, Napoleon, Dark Chocolate Mousse and the eclairs. We stopped by for lunch and can't wait to go back! This place is wonderful!! I had a panini type sandwich and my husband got their signature burger. The homemade garlic sauce is incredible and the folks that work here are just so friendly and delightful. We loved being able to enjoy our lunch while they brought out several huge cakes for delivery to a series of very happy customers. Now for dessert... And arguably the reason we came here in the first place. I spent 6 weeks in college studying abroad in Austria and their pastries and such are truly amazing!! Everything is so light and delicious and after that experience, the Bakehouse didn't disappoint! We came home with four desserts (don't judge, we couldn't help ourselves) which included a Napoleon (my fave), tiramisu (also very good), a raspberry chocolate dome (sinfully good for the chocolate lover) and a cream puff (my last favorite, but still tasty). Food just isn't what it used to be. Service is severely lacking lately as well. We've been going fairly regularly for lunch now over the past few years and here recently things seem to be moving in the wrong direction. Being that The Bakehouse is only about a ten minute drive from my office and home I was delighted to stumble upon it shortly after my partner and I moved to the area. We loved it at first. The Barcelona burger is amazing and the pastries are out of this world. We've had multiple custom cakes made and never had a complaint...until recently. The waitstaff just seem apathetic as of late, as if they can't stand to be there and it's apparent in their demeanor with no real effort to be pleasant. I know everyone has a bad day every now and then but I've been there 5-6 times since mid October and had the same server each time and she just seemed so disconnected. This last time our order got "lost in the kitchen" but it was obvious she just forgot it since it wasn't written down and after she left our table she visited two other tables and then just went to the cashiers area and began talking and giggling with other staff members as we sat and watched everyone around us get food , even those that had been there less time than we had. Now to the food: Apparently there is a new chef that works Sunday's and Tuesdays from what I've been told by some friends and some of the staff. I can say that we haven't been on a Sunday due to commitments at church but feel that the food is slightly better Tuesdays. Our neighbors are long time patrons and have mentioned the same thing. They said the paninis are crispier earlier in the week and tend to be soggy and just kinda thrown on the cold bread on other days and that they get the salmon and have noticed it's cooked better some days too. It's my understanding that the owner works in the kitchen on these days so that could play a big roll as well. Sometimes it's amazing, like it used to be , and some days it makes me question why I keep coming back. On a side note though ... we've never had a bad experience at breakfast, only for lunch . I don't know if there's a separate crew that cooks breakfast . The servers are the same but oddly seem slightly cheerier in the morning. Pastries and cakes: Amazing. No complaints except for the fact that I can't eat them everyday! Never had a bad experience ordering or purchasing any of their sweet treats !!! We did try to order a cake a few weeks back but were told that they were booked for that weekend. But we should have called sooner. UPDATE: The bakery that we knew and loved is gone. Had lunch today and it's just not the same. The balsamic vinaigrette tastes nothing like it used to . The food was just thrown together and tossed on the plates with no care for how it looked . Service was so so but our drinks remained empty for most of the meal. Very disappointed and will not be going back. Save your money and dine elsewhere . read more
