What a great, homey little place to get you a bite!! We stopped by for breakfast today (cash only). It was popping when we got there. Sat quickly at one of the last open tables and our waitress got us coffee quickly. Fried bologna special? Husband had to have it but went with wheat toast instead of the biscuit. I got the hobo special which was all the meats scrambled into eggs with a side of grits. Sis in law got simple breakfast and said biscuit was amazing. Pinehurst Track serves great Southern breakfast at diner fares. Please note the restaurant is cash only. There is a sign when you walk in. My group of 4 brought ample cash and enjoyed our food. The main dining area was full so we were seated in the overflow behind the kitchen. Table service was slow as they were busy. Three (based on what I saw) servers on duty that day. Pack some patience and enjoy your trackside meal. I chose their Horseman's Special which comes with two eggs, a meat option, and two pancakes. I chose their signature blueberry and added grits. The waiter was friendly and took our order. I asked for white bread, got wheat.No refills on the coffee or water. The waiter dropped 2 slices of bread and never replaced it. The waiter never stopped by our table to check if we needed anything. So I went to the counter and asked for more coffee and had to wait and she was not friendly about it. When finished, I went to the counter to pay and I told her my friend just got half her toast she said "yeah ok" Before we left I over heard her telling the waiter what I said. She was blatantly rude. I had been wanting to give this place a try for a long time but due to extreme mixed reviews I never ventured that way. The building itself was very old, so considering that, the inside appeared to be fairly clean. I say fairly because they stick the placemat on the table so the yucky water used to wipe down the table gets under the corners. Unsure why the sink in which people need to wash their hands after using the restroom is on the back wall not blocked from the dinning area. I would not want to sit there. For some reason all the shades were drawn so it was like being in someone cellar. The food was your typical dinner menu, nothing signature on it that would make me run back, it was inexpensive and it did come out nice and hot and no mixups on what we ordered so that was a positive. I got the blueberry pancakes, unfortunately I didn't see anything special about them so unsure what everyone was raving about. Maybe I was there on an off day? Servers were nice but not attentive to the table at all. Twice we had to ask for more coffee and one person in the party not drinking coffee was never asked if they wanted a refill ... which was very weak Ice Tea. It's not a bad place, maybe my expectations were too high based on the reviews? I left unsure if I would come back. read more

Cash only establishment. Wait staff attentive and polite, even on a busy Sunday morning. The building is quite small and they really pack the people in. Was a bit too loud for my liking, but they can't help loud mouths haha. The biscuit and gravy (portion one biscuit) was nearly $8 dollars... while a lumberjack style (all the breakfast variety) was about $5-6 dollars. This seemed a little imbalanced in the pricing. The flavor of the biscuit and gravy (despite wanting more biscuit for the price!) was absolutely on point. I'm known for my biscuits and gravy, and I swear this restaurant must have stole my mother's recipe. Very well done. The Pinehurst Track Restaurant could be a food lover's dream. It is off the beaten track, a tiny cement building and packed with locals. The kind of place where you can't wait to go back again. Well, this joint not so much. I am sad to report, weak coffee, my pancakes tasted like oil off of the griddle. My eggs and toast were fine, but the hashbrowns were just frozen cubed potaoes deep fried like french fries. The sausage was not brown either, maybe precooked or something and they ran out of grits. Looking for home cooking and prices you can't beat, race on over to the track!! This is a must when we visit our friends in Southern Pines. The restaurant is right by Pinehurst golf course and actually sits along side a horse track. The folks their are so friendly and treat you so well. The food is just good home cooking that you can't get enough of and if you leave there hungry that's your own fault. The pancakes are a great choice along with the hobo. We go here several times when we are in the area or staying with friends and it just never gets old and the prices are hard to beat. Stay away.... This place has potential for a unique restaurant in a unique location. We thought it should be a shining star in Pinehurst. But, a total fail.... First, You can't even tell the place is open, as they keep the shades pulled. We had to send in a scout to be sure they were open. No natural light in the place. The table service is adequate. Except the for the rude lady at the till. The thermostat was set so cold the windows were sweating. Bring a sweater, even if it's 90 degrees outside. Worst part about the whole mess is they use a sour rag/bucket to clean the tables, then trap the rancid water under those cheap, shitty placemat / menus. So, the tables stink... Literally, stink like mildew. read more
