I've been to Ironwood several times for lunch and brunch. It's been consistently good. My favorite items for lunch have been the wedge salad, the chicken salad croissant, the salmon tacos, and the lobster bisque. The cocktails I've had are unique and delicious. We have been there twice for dinner. The service by the food server both times was five stars. Both friendly courteous servers who were worth even more than a 20% tip. They restaurant is very pretty with a nice atmosphere. That is the positive. However, both visits for dinner were very disappointing for our entire group of 5 the first time and party of 9 the second time. Everyone thought the food was a 2 on a 5 scale. The only exception was the lobster bisque. The tuna tartar was hot instead of cold like the first visit. It probably sat under the heat lamps waiting for the other food. The Salmon was good the first visit and terrible the second visit. Very salty. The mushroom chicken was a terrible piece of chicken with no taste. However, the chicken was on top of a delicious pasta. The bi bim bop stir fry was terrible. He was very disappointed. However, his wife said the pork osso bucco was delicious. Highly recommend it. To be honest, I do not believe the negative reviews at all - we all know there are people who just like to complain or just outright lie. I just left Ironwood, & as always,, I feel like a princess. I could not be happier with any aspect of our experience- everything was absolutely perfect, as it has been every time we come here. I have to say the staff is absolutely fantastic!!! Every single person treated us well. Aiden was our primary server - I cannot say "Thank you" enough for a lovely evening. The food was spectacular! I will never eat here again. We made reservations days in advance for a party of 3 adults. When we arrived, we were shown to a tiny table with an extra chair in the walkway. When we asked why the 4 top table next to us had only 2 people and we barely had enough room for our drinks, we were told that the couple were shown to the table we now had but they didn't like it, so the staff gave them our reserved table and we took theirs- just like that. What was the point of making a reservation if someone can walk in and pick the table they want???? When I asked the manager on duty about it he said "I don't why they switched it" and said not more, he did nothing to resolve the issue. WOW. read more

This place is living off its old reputation. Massively overpriced for mediocre steaks. My wife's filet was undercooked. My medium ribeye was closer to medium rare. 48 and 68 dollars for steaks on the same level if i bought at kroger and cooked on the grill. We ordered a 21 dollar charcuterie board. It didn't have half the things our waiter said. It didn't have 3 types of salami, but only 1. It was if they looked at what was lying around and dumped on it. It had no crackers. They toasted the same whie btead that they served in a basket. Caesar salad was ok. Drinks were normal high prices. 200 dollars for this after tax and tip. What a joke. They also were understaffed. I forgot to mention that the main reason we went was because my wife picked a scallop dish off their website. My menu had it, but it was missing on my wifes. Found out they got rid of it. There are not a huge amount of nice food options in Pinehurst but this is one of the better choices. I was with 11 others for a guys golf weekend and Ronnie in our group recommended this place as one of his frequent 'go to' in his restaurant rotation. One of the big draws for our group was the outside patio that was nice and welcoming with lots of room and great for a group of guys who tend to get loud, especially about their golf game. We had exceptional service from Rhonda who had a fantastic sense of humor and a fun and professional style, we just enjoyed her so much. She and her team took great care of us. We all had something different and everyone was pleased with the food quality and value. We all shared some really good appetizers, the Spring Roll, Tuna Tartar and Calamari. It was so good it was practically inhaled by some hungry golfers. I had the wedge salad adding the shrimp and salmon with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing and all around great and healthy choice. I love the food, the service is great but the inside acoustics are horrendous, almost impossible to hold a conversation at an indoor table. In good weather I love to go and sit outside on the terrace-lovely atmosphere. Inside not so much. I know they have tried to improve the acoustics in the past but without much success. If you get a table in a corner at the back of the restaurant it is better. Every time I have eaten there (10 times in the last year) everyone has been pleased with their meal. Ironwoood Grille has been an institution in Pinehurst for perhaps 15 years. Have enjoyed their al fresco dinner in the covered and heated patio many evenings. The main room is spacious, where we were seated, is a bit dark, but clubby at the same time. The Caesar salad was HUGE so we split it three ways (loved that the Chef included an extra side of Anchovies). Linda's halibut entree looked yummy and my simple choice of a pasta dish was delish, with seared mushrooms and charred asparagus tips. Only downside was waitress never offered freshly grated Pepper or Parm! Our server was neat, reasonable efficient (see above) and knowledgeable about wine choices. A lovely bottle of Pinot Noir set the tone perfectly. Now of course there are some of you who may seem appalled that we sipped a ruby red vis a dry Chardonnay with these entrees, but trust me here, we experienced nirvana with this combo. read more

Ironwood has been a long time favorite, however, we had brunch there this weekend and ordered Huevo's rancheros. Being gluten-free I ordered it without the tortilla bowl. Is a pile of scrambled eggs with chorizo and onions in it a small side of black beans and some salsa Verde. It looked like something I could've made at in a hurry. Was a disappointment that it wasn't what one normally thinks of as. Huevo's, but especially that it just wasn't for a flavorful at all. Hopefully the high standards will continue on other things although someone mentioned to me that they're lunch they had gone downhill too. read more

The broken chair I sat in needed to be replaced before I ordered and was delivered to the table dirty, so I cleaned it myself. No one cared to ask If everything was ok after that. The new eggs Benedict with a side of potatoes was unimpressive and drenched in canned hollandaise. Don't call it traditional Eggs Benedict when you don't have ham and add a slice of soggy tomato. The chef needs to spend more time in the kitchen and less time doing shots at the bar. read more

Wow, what happened to Ironwood??? Have been coming here for years, and never had such a bad experience like tonight! First off, our server Elisabeth took at least 20 minutes before acknowledging us and taking our drink order. Then, the helpers walked up to our table and threw the bread and Olive oil down on the table and said "here's your bread". Thanks bro for splashing olive oil on me. I ordered the strip steak medium rare to rare, and it came as medium to well. Taste was good, but I only ate two bites because it was so overcooked. Elisabeth didn't pick up on the fact that I didn't eat a lot of it, and didn't want to take any of it home. I had a lobster bisque that was phenomenal followed by a perfectly cooked filet mignon with whipped potatoes and asparagus and a creme brûlée and all served by a sweet young man. There were 4 of us and we were a party. Service, delicious grazing, and wine kept us busy in the patio. On to the nights food fare: *Charcuterie platter is a favorite starter for us every time we visit. Generous portions of cheese, sliced meats, nuts, fruit chutney. Perfect for sharing! *13oz. Prime Ribeye cooked to perfection just like my mom never made! If you enjoy a great steak, this is yours to be had. (2 orders please!) *Korma vegetable curry for a no meat choice looked beautiful and well presented. * Chilean Sea Bass so moist and flaky it will have you singing "its all about the Bass" (please do the singing at home) This is a true winner! We are new to the area and were recommended the Ironwood Cafe for a celebratory dinner. It was an outstanding meal. The house salad was crisp and refreshing with a light maple vinaigrette. Lobster bisque was one of the best I have ever tasted. The steak with crispy Brussels sprouts was perfectly cooked and tender. Service was very attentive and it was, overall, a lovely dining experience. They were closing early due to the snow, but we did not feel rushed at all. We will definitely be returning. read more

The service was great! Our waiter was full of personality which I love because most take their jobs so serious they come off stale, but he heightened our experience for sure. The restaurant is super eclectic. The outdoor space was laid out well. They were having a private event at the time so I wasn't able to get photos. I ordered the Salmon with the lemon risotto. The only complaint I really have is that the risotto had an overwhelming taste of lemon. Though I knew it would have a lemon flavor it was a little over powering for me. But the salmon was cooked well lacked a lot of flavor but I guess the risotto is to cover that. The asparagus was crisp and fresh. We also got there early enough that we were able to catch the dinner special which comes with a salad and dessert. I got the standard Caesar and they legit have the best Caesar dressing. I also had the crème brulee, here it's done right. They kept it simple and the fruit on top was fresh. I wanted to order a second order but... I didn't want to seem greedy. My co-worker/ fellow foodie ordered pork osso bucco, being that I don't eat meat I didn't try it but she stated that it was little fatty but the flavors were all there. That the polenta was creamy and delightful. She also have strict dietary restrictions that doesn't allow her to have gluten, so she asked if that had gluten free bread and they did. She was sooo excited and wanted to ensure that I did not leave that out of the review. I also got the Tamarind margarita, not something I would normally chose but thanks to our amazing server I found my new favorite drink. For the type of establishment this is, I found a little odd that the lot was gravel. The taste was honestly underwhelming. The locals I was with love the place though. They were also very accommodating to my vegan friend. They made her something off menu. Like I said the presentation is top notch, so it looked like it was going to taste amazing. I had the sea bass which came highly recommended. I've had better at bonefish grill. This is one of our favorite places to come for special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, etc! Ironwood is a beautiful restaurant in between southern pines and Pinehurst! The best time to come to ironwood is when the weather is nice so you can sit outside in the patio area. However, if you come in the rain or winter, you will still have a great experience. I am always extremely impressed by the service! The staff is attentive and very knowledgeable on the menu. Food wise, I have gotten the salmon, kebab, ahi tuna steak, and gnocchi and have been very impressed! The portion size is fantastic as well! The bar has a great selection of cocktails. I went there with my wife and another couple. My wife and I are in our 70's and I spent a whole life in New Orleans and Texas as a Chef. Ironwood has a extensive wine selection at all price points. We started with Smokey Harvest a Mezcal infused with haberno, Cointreau and carrot juice (I hate carrots but this was great)! then the appetizers which were the southern spring roll's that were a totally pleasant surprise of flavors, little like Asia meets Carolina BBQ? I don't know how to describe it. We also had the Fall burrata,I strongly advise trying it and when you do, consume it in "Chef bites " a little of everything on a toast point. With a nice glass of Chardonnay I could make a afternoon meal of this! Speaking of Chardonnay we had a beautiful bottle of DUMOL ESTATE CHARDONNAY along with the the Pecan crusted salmon cooked and flavored just right, the Wild mushroom chicken which had a just fantastic delicate cream/wine sauce over it, the chicken & spinach manicotti with a link of local Artisan made smoked sausage? Yes that's what I said-not Italian sausage but a flavorful smoked sausage, It went with the fresh made Marinara on the Manicotti like a marriage made in Heaven. Who would have thought? Last we had the Chilian sea bass-oh WOW and the so delicate Champagne beurre blanc sauce was the topper on this big thick serving of perfectly cooked fish. Then of course the desserts. They were all great especially the one they call "The Bomb" but my heart just fell for the creme brulee as I am picky about that one and it was perfect with some dessert wine. All in all a wonderful evening with service that seemed to know what and when you needed something and was invisible the rest of the time in a beautiful garden setting as we dined al fresco that evening.
