Wow, this was not what I expected and struggled to reach a 3 star. I had buyers regret not getting the fish and chips. It actually looked good. Instead, I opted for the crab cakes appetizer which they touted as a signature dish. I was disappointed to find that the cakes were mostly filler and harbored no lumps of crab at all. They were very much like the ones you get frozen at the store. For $18, I expected more. The fried shrimp were okay but not exceptional. The potatos were mashed red skin. This was a very average experience and okay for a fast bute but wouldnt go out of my way to eat there. read more

Everything is just as is to be expected. Food is pub fare: fish & chips, & burgers, & appetizers. Speaking of appetizers, I was disappointed in both the cheese curds & the pimento cheese. Curds were so undercooked, they came to the table flat. Pimento was flavorful, but soupy - how on absolute earth do you make watery pimento cheese? Entrees were good. There is a lot of seating here - good for large groups. Waitress spilled a lot of my martini on the way to delivering & as she placed it on the table. She was very pleasant, but shouldn't the spilled half of my drink be replaced? Don't use the QR code to pay!!!! I used it, received "pending" confirmation from my credit card, & manager asked me to let them run it manually because she wasn't "sure if it went through" because their system doesn't tell them. She wasn't polite, but i wasn't really given an option: I had to pay twice because they don't know their own system. I now have two Dugan's charges still pending .... Time will only tell if I'm going to have to take my time to call the restaurant to get them to fix it. read more

To start, we have been going to Dugans for years and it had always been good. This particular night, not so much. I will keep this short and to the point. The service was excellent so no problems there. My wife's Rueben was perfect as well. Our guests had the wings and said they were just okay. They bake them and then fry them, so they should be crisp. Alas they were not. And they were not very large. I had what I usually get, the fish and chips. The fries were very good but the fish was limp and soggy and as much smaller pieces than they used to be. As well, one of the pieces was a bit mealy. I also had the onion soup. It was flavorless water with non caramelized onions in it. The cheese on top was good though. For the prices it was disappointing. Will we be back, yes, we always give places another chance after it could just be an off night. read more

4/27/24, lunch visit after golf with buddies. Amazing meal as we closed the tab via credit card roulette and I was a winner! Seriously, this is one of our favorite spots when visiting Pinehurst. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and always fun. This visit was a couple split entrees and beers as we had early dinner reservations. Back home for the holidays which meant stopping by Dugans with the fam. Had a bigger group than usual and then sat us upstairs in a room with other large parties - it was super loud at first but died down when one of the groups left. Overall the servers did an excellent job taking care of us last night and food and drinks came out pretty quickly! The French onion soup was ok - I'd recommend getting the cup instead of the bowl. Got the Caesar salad with blackened salmon as well and it was good! read more

Came into Dugan's last night looking for a place to get some quick and easy food. Krissy was incredibly helpful in getting us in, sharing her story about her businesses, and keeping the place in good spirits. Her husband is the cook, and they do a phenomenal job. This place used to be under different ownership, but Krissy and her husband have definitely made it a must-visit while in Pinehurst! Highly recommend the Buffalo Chicken Salad and checking out all of the course flags they have on the ceiling! read more

A usually excellent lunch was ruined by a soup that arrived with the main course and a dry, flavorless classic Reuben. It was toasted til black, had 1/4" thick slices of dry corned beef and the cheese which should have been melted over the kraut and corned beef was toasted to the bread. Others in the party had bland fish and chips and an overdone burger. The only bright spots were a decent buffalo chicken salad and the wait staff. Not sure if there's a new cook in for lunch, but it'll be a long time before we come back. read more

Service was very slow and appeared. They only had one working long time between ordering and getting our meal. All four of us agree that the meals were not very good. I have had the pleasure of going to Duggans many times over 25 years. it doesn't change. good selection of beers and a menu that has Irish favorites. inhabited by golfers and locals. noisy basement and sedate dining room on the first floor. genuine bar brought from Ireland on the first floor. certainly a better option than a chain resteraunt. read more

Terrible. Waitress tried to kick me out when I caught her trying to charge me for a 200 dollar order when I only ordered a beer and a burger. She got super confrontational and I stood my ground. The manager came out and actually defended her. I got my credit card back and left. Alan (the owner) tried to contact me and apologize. But he insisted that there was no fault on their part. I think they were very accustomed to elderly people who were not going to complain when the check was 10x what it should have been. read more

What a great little pub in the center of town! My wife and I were in town looking for a house so we stopped in for lunch (we've been there twice). The people (not just the employees but the customers) were about as friendly as can be. Each time, I ordered a black & tan than was poured perfectly. Food wise we had the chili which was outstanding and, for $4 more, you can add a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon & tomato, which was a steal. The 2nd time I ordered the fish & chips. There were 3 nicely sized pieces of fish in a golden brown batter that was delicious. The only complaint I have is with their fries. They are heavily coated and did not have the potato taste I expected. I'll ask for onion rings next time. We are looking forward to finding a house which will make me a regular at this establishment. read more

We have loved Dugan's for the 10 years we have lived here, but last week we were very disappointed. The Onion Soup is one of our favorites but on the evening of June 18th it tasted odd...something was wrong. This was 2 days after the US Open so perhaps they ran out of an ingredient or something but we would not order it again. Also, our server was pleasant but inadequate...had to ask for napkins, had to ask for the water we ordered...just not too tuned in. I've only been here twice as I live an hour away but, both visits have been exactly what you'd expect for a friendly, neighborhood Irish style pub. The Guinness is poured properly, the staff is friendly and talkative and funny. The staff absolutely makes you feel welcome! read more

We had a group of five and sat in the back dining room. Next time it will be a smaller group so we can sit in front, which looks like a nicer pub experience. This place is electric. After getting denied food service at 9:30 pm on a Thursday at Pinehurst Brewery, we stumbled upon Dougan's who was happy to serve and had the kitchen open late. What we walked upon next was absolutely majestic. Open karaoke night. We walked in on an incredible rendition of Jimmy Buffet's a Pirate Looks at 40. I added to the magical evening with both Matchbox 20's "unwell" and Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike." Both were well received by the regulars. The MC was amazing and even contributed on backup vocals, which was big. I got a spicy fried chicken sandwich was good. Beers were cold and service was great. Prices were beyond affordable. Ok - we love the new feel and menu. We were excited to come in and see the changes and they are better than expected. Love the new menu choices - especially Rueben rolls and fried green tomato apps. Was visiting my parents and we went to Dugan's for the first time in years. They have a full service bar and made our group a round of legit Old Fashioneds. I started with the pub soup - creamy with bacon cheese and potato. Great comfort food. I also had the crab cake appetizer for an entree. The crab cakes were great. Moist with just enough crust and flavorful enough that they really didn't need sauce. But the remoulade it comes with is quite good. Others in our group really liked the Ruben sandwich and the fish and chips. This is a friendly place with a great pub atmosphere. read more

We are from North of the Border. Come to Pinehurst golfing for last 3 years. Every time we make sure we eat at Dugans. Six of us have never had a bad meal, poor service or unfriendly staff. Bread pudding was our desert choice along with craft, domestic and import beers. We were there 3 times this year Oct 30/24 with no issues. read more

We strolled in on a Sunday Afternoon to this quaint Irish Pub. You have the bar in the front and the dining room in the back. The food was good , I had a Cajun Chicken Sandwich. It was excellent and was the way I liked it. No one else complained about the food in our group of 4. They all said the food was good. Our server was on the spot and very attentive to our needs. My family and I came here for dinner around 7:15. We ordered 3 items in total, a grilled chicken sandwich, a grilled chicken dinner, and a burger. About 30 minutes in our waitress brought us bread because our food still hadn't come out yet. About an hour in we had no idea what was taking so long for our 3 dishes. We asked our waitress if she could bring us the manager and check on our food. A few minutes later our food came out but the manager was not anywhere to be seen. By the time we received our food we had waited around an hour and 20 minutes. I had to go find our waitress so we could get the bill quick and once again asked for the manager. When the manager finally came we were saying that it was ridiculous that it took over an hour for 2 grilled chickens and a burger. She told us that "grilled foods take longer to cook" and that "the kitchen was severely backed up." Now I can understand the kitchen being backed up, but thats something you tell your customers when they walk through the door. The next part of our conversation that was frustrating was how I explained that I used to work in a restaurant too and that there's no excuse for our food to have taken as long as it did and she immediately got defensive and said "Well ma'am this is a different restaurant we have 2 cooks and serve over 150 people" and spoke to me like I didn't know what I was talking about (for context I worked in a restaurant that also had 2 cooks and served closer to 200 people, even with parties of 20, and we never had the kitchen backed up to the point it took over an hour to get food out). Anyway, the manager starts to walk away mid-sentence and never came back. I try to be sympathetic towards people in the restaurant business because I know firsthand its not easy, but the behavior I witnessed from that manager is not something that I can excuse. Overall food was great but not "wait for an hour and 20 minutes great." If you like waiting an absurd amount of time for good food and then fighting the manager then I recommend this place, but its a no for me. read more
