Every time we come to town to visit family we have to have dinner here. The food has always been good. The service is also good, but tonight it was great, we had James as a server and he did a wonderful job. If you want great service, ask for James. My fiancé and I are from out of town. We're usually going to Texas Roadhouse here in southern pines which is his favorite restaurant. Well we decided to try a new restaurant and decided on Hickory Tavern. The environment was quant and relaxing. We had Abby as our server and she was an absolute sweetheart. I ordered a Strawberry lemon drop martini which was absolutely delicious. We ordered mozzarella sticks which were delicious and dazzled up compared to your average mozzarella sticks you'd get anywhere else. My fiancée who always usually gets burgers whenever we go out to eat got the tavern burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. His only complaint which wasn't really a complaint in his book was that his patties had a little itty bit too much sear. I ordered the jacked up chicken which was tender and moist. We enjoyed our date night dinner and will definitely be back for more! read more

We've been there 7 times in the last 2 months. The service is great every time. The food is really good and prices are normal. The Porte Bella mushroom burger is fantastic. The wings are huge and meaty and cooked perfectly. Fish and chips the best we have found in the area. Prices aren't cheap nor expensive. What a great little spot! In Pinehurst for a conference and my husband and I thought the menu looked good. When we got there it was busy but we got seated right away. Our server and all of the rest of the staff were so friendly! The ambiance is great, definitely a sports bar atmosphere with lots of screens! Hubby had the cheesesteak and it was absolutely FULL of steak, peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese. Fries were great too! I had the low country shrimp and grits and it was delicious! Grits were perfectly cooked and it was full of shrimp and andouille sausage. Staff was so friendly on our way out as well, wishing us a good night and safe drive. Highly recommend!! read more

Was in the area for a guys golf trip to Pinehurst for the week. Had to stay a night locally next door at the Comfort Inn and the front desk lady suggested Hickory Tavern next door. Literally over the bridge and into the parking lot was the Tavern. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the Hickory Tavern. Thanks to Tina my waitress for being so attentive. While on the East Coast, I must always have a Yuengling. They had a ton of beers on tap and also a ton of beers in can/bottles. The menu had a ton of pub/tavern food. I should have taken pictures of the menu for the Yelpers (all the menus on Yelp were from years ago). I had a NYC style Mediterranean dish. It was good. Chicken breast with sauce with pita bread over yellow rice. Too bad I'm only staying a night at the Comfort Inn or else is definitely come back to the Hickory Tavern. We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm. They weren't busy yet and so we were seated right away. Faith was our waitress and she was absolutely fabulous! She offered great food and drink suggestions for our group. Faith was friendly and very attentive. We tried the pear margaritas and one person got the blackberry margarita. The pear margarita was rimmed with sugar and was pretty sweet. The blackberry margarita was also a winner. We got the deluxe nachos as an appetizer, which was perfect for our party of 4. I got the Tavern burger with sweet potato fries. It was very filling and a challenge to finish, as it had two meat patties with all the toppings. Everyone enjoyed their food and I'm sure we'll be back! read more

Let me start by saying the '2' rating on the service was not for our server, it was the bar and kitchen. Please read on. My wife and I moved to Pinehurst just 3 weeks ago, from Boca Raton, FL. We've been impressed with the selection of the food with 15 minutes. We're still looking for a 'go to' casual place, so we tried Hickory Tavern at 2pm on a Saturday. It was a big place in the same vein as BWW. There were only about 12 customers (more than BWW!) and we were seated at a booth. Our server was very pleasant (everyone is very pleasant here compared to Boca), arrived quickly and took our drink and app order. They were out of Modelo Negra so my wife and I each order mixed drinks. Here is where the problem started. We waited at least 10 minutes for our drinks, and the place was basically empty. When they eventually did arrive, my wife's Long Island Iced Tea was not good. There are 4 different liquors in it but it didn't taste like it. My Moscow Mule was very good. We then sat and waited almost 15 minutes for our 6 wing app order. I think they were made in a convection oven (like World of Beer) and they were fantastic! Finally, our main course that we shared (fish and chips) came out in a reasonable amount of time and was also very good. They offer chips or fries and we went with the fries, which were excellent. The fish was nicely battered and very light with a really nice taste. The only complaint is that the portion could have been bigger. The prices on the food is a bit higher than most but only 1$-2$. Overall, we really enjoyed Hickory Taven. Great food, attentive server but the bar and kitchen are another story. They would have earned 5 stars without that. We weren't in a hurry but they easily added 20 minutes to our lunch. We'll definitely be back but should it happen again. I'll ask for the manager. read more

I came in about 15 minutes before they were going to close and was immediately helped by the bartender. My husband got the spiced apple signature cocktail and said it was one of the best drinks he ever had. He ended up drinking 3 of them. I had the apple crunch dessert that was on their limited fall menu and it was so good. The dessert was served warm with ice cream on top and in a timely manner. The GM even came by to see how our experience and food was. Lots of TVs to watch the games on and great atmosphere. read more

I had been to one before and the layout was very similar to the one in Gastonia. I got the ahi tacos. It was good. The fries were also good. The food took a long time to arrive. We started coming here a while ago and it has gotten worse every time. It is designed as a sports bar. This last time we really thought about going since it was so bad. We had no other close choice so we decided to go since we had a decent amount of people. The food is the worst part. We ordered the pretzel bites and when they came out they were as hard as a rock! We sent them back and they came back fine. I ordered the chicken wings which were okay. My cousin ordered the grilled cheese and this gave them along with others an upset stomach for the rest of the night. The service was okay. Our server was nice and attentive but the food took forever to come out. It took almost 45 minutes for the appetizers to come out and another 45 minutes for food for five people. The place wasn't even crowded. We were some of the only people there! I don't recommend for food. read more
