Let me start by saying the '2' rating on the service was not for our server, it was the bar and kitchen. Please read on. My wife and I moved to Pinehurst just 3 weeks ago, from Boca Raton, FL. We've been impressed with the selection of the food with 15 minutes. We're still looking for a 'go to' casual place, so we tried Hickory Tavern at 2pm on a Saturday. It was a big place in the same vein as BWW. There were only about 12 customers (more than BWW!) and we were seated at a booth. Our server was very pleasant (everyone is very pleasant here compared to Boca), arrived quickly and took our drink and app order. They were out of Modelo Negra so my wife and I each order mixed drinks. Here is where the problem started. We waited at least 10 minutes for our drinks, and the place was basically empty. When they eventually did arrive, my wife's Long Island Iced Tea was not good. There are 4 different liquors in it but it didn't taste like it. My Moscow Mule was very good. We then sat and waited almost 15 minutes for our 6 wing app order. I think they were made in a convection oven (like World of Beer) and they were fantastic! Finally, our main course that we shared (fish and chips) came out in a reasonable amount of time and was also very good. They offer chips or fries and we went with the fries, which were excellent. The fish was nicely battered and very light with a really nice taste. The only complaint is that the portion could have been bigger. The prices on the food is a bit higher than most but only 1$-2$. Overall, we really enjoyed Hickory Taven. Great food, attentive server but the bar and kitchen are another story. They would have earned 5 stars without that. We weren't in a hurry but they easily added 20 minutes to our lunch. We'll definitely be back but should it happen again. I'll ask for the manager. read more

I had been to one before and the layout was very similar to the one in Gastonia. I got the ahi tacos. It was good. The fries were also good. The food took a long time to arrive. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy so this puzzled me. Our server was nice and relatively efficient. I don't think I'll return to this one again. read more

I came in about 15 minutes before they were going to close and was immediately helped by the bartender. My husband got the spiced apple signature cocktail and said it was one of the best drinks he ever had. He ended up drinking 3 of them. I had the apple crunch dessert that was on their limited fall menu and it was so good. The dessert was served warm with ice cream on top and in a timely manner. She did not hesitate to check if we were satisfied with the food & came back to the table a few times to check drink orders. Well trained and friendly. Bianca should move into a management position ...she knows people & laughs easily. We started coming here a while ago and it has gotten worse every time. It is designed as a sports bar. This last time we really thought about going since it was so bad. We had no other close choice so we decided to go since we had a decent amount of people. The food is the worst part. We ordered the pretzel bites and when they came out they were as hard as a rock! We sent them back and they came back fine. I ordered the chicken wings which were okay. My cousin ordered the grilled cheese and this gave them along with others an upset stomach for the rest of the night. The service was okay. Our server was nice and attentive but the food took forever to come out. It took almost 45 minutes for the appetizers to come out and another 45 minutes for food for five people. The place wasn't even crowded. We were some of the only people there! I don't recommend for food. read more

This WAS one of our favorite places to go for food, entertainment and service. Tonight was a disaster! Waitress got to us quickly. That was the highlight of the night. Got the drink order wrong. Took forever to correct it. Waited forever to get our food order. Did not bring out my side order until dinner was finished (and when we refused it, gave it for free to the table next to us RIGHT IN FRONT OF US). Husbands burger was a charcoal puck (she never asked how he wanted it cooked). My power bowl (while my favorite) should have at least cut up the chicken. Son's tacos were great. Came in a couple times and each time it's just "ok." First time we got the nachos deluxe and only the top is really considered nachos. The rest of what you're paying for is just a bowl of salted chips. I wish they'd layer the toppings better. Went in again & it was music bingo, which was super catchy and I loved the idea. My drink was pretty terrible this time :(. I got a cucumber jalapeño margarita that states it is made with fresh jalapeños.......they are the same ones I get from the jar to put on top of my homemade nachos. 100% not fresh jalapeños and too much syrup. ill stick with just beer next time. read more

We've been coming here for drinks and food after a day of golf since the place opened and year over year the quality has gone downhill. Our most recent visit being the worst. Swiss burger patty melt was pretty bad - told the waitress and it was removed from the menu. We wondered how many times that happens per day. Two of us had the cheese steak and found it to be less than desirable as well. The fourth had the Reuben and thought it was good but we don't think he would know a good Reuben if it hit him in the face. It was thin and lacking meat. Went in to watch a game and have some wings. Hundreds of TVs but none showing the major top ranked game. It took 40 minutes for someone to get the game to appear on half a small screen because 'the guy that knows how to change the channel wasn't at work today and no one else knew how'. Really. No sound, of course , because we're all here on a Saturday afternoon to dance to generic bar music cranked up at full blast. I guess the dancers will show up later, but I'm not sticking around. Currently on a work trip for the week and staying at a hotel near Hickory Tavern. Brother lives around the area and he recommended we try the wings here bc apparently they are . Brother, his buddies, and myself visited on a late late Monday night, so the place was obviously not packed. Service was great, we sat ourselves down at the bar area. Sadly, I didn't catch the bartender's name(Puerto Rican young lady w/ glasses), nonetheless she was very attentive, she had a good laugh or two when she'd walk in on our convos as she checked up on us. Beer was great and the charred wings were delicious. Will def return if I'm ever around the area, or maybe even later this week lol, but I most def recommend this place for their wings and beer! read more

Went there back last year with a group of friends from the campground, I had the Charleston burger, it was amazing, . I ordered it with out the arugula on it , or the lemon sauce I was disappointed when I went back a month later , it was no longer offered, So I have to try an duplicate the burger at home , I have tried it different ways and actually liked it , I think the next time I make it I am going to use a raspberry vinaigrette in the meat, to complement the pepper jam and the tanginess of the goat cheese , please bring this burger back , by the way in the 1860s My great grandfather and grand mother managed the first Hickory Tavern in Hickory NC , his name was Pinkney Henderson White , read more

Our waitress Lily was by far the best server we've ever had. Not only was she knowledgeable and attentive, but she was extraordinarily personable. My husband & I had dinner at Hickory Tavern Pinehurst tonight. Hickory Tavern has been one of our favorite places to eat often for several years. We do like the new menu. We had pow pow shrimp for a appetizer. We so like that appetizer. My husband had the Carolina Cheese steak sandwich. He said that was the best sandwich.
