Had our annual Christmas dinner with my brothers and our wives. Probably will find another place next time. Beautiful hotel, OK dining room. My server got my order wrong, blamed the kitchen, when they brought my food (ravioli) it was way too al dente for me. The wrong dish was still added to my bill, although removed once I brought it up. Legit 5 start experience. On a guys golf weekend with 12 of us. We had the dining package at the hotel which included the breakfast buffet. It starts at 6am and it's very popular so get there early. They REQUIRE collar shirt. An amazing selection of fresh breakfast options to include a custom omelet station. They had three different types of sausages as well as bacon and ham. A wide selection of fresh fruits including kiwi and dragon fruit. Muffins, buns and bagels to include lox and cream cheese which was very fresh. The coffee pots are sat on the table when you arrive and they just keep them coming with fresh brewed and excellent coffee. We also had dinner there which was something of a mix review. Those that had the steak entree's were not favorable. The service is amazing! read more

Excellent overall but my branzino had a huge amount of bones in it. I had never had branzino so thought the issue was my not knowing how it was to be served. I later found out that should never have happened. It was actually pretty dangerous and I probably should have sent it back but I didn't want to ruin the family experience we were having. I hope the restaurant does better quality control moving forward. read more

We started dinner with an extra dirty martini and a dark and stormy. Asking for blue cheese olives was an after thought after our drinks arrived, but low and be hold they had added them to my drink. Night made! The food was absolutely incredible. I ordered the Steak Diane and it was one of the most tender juicy tenderloins I've had. The truffle mashed potatoes were absolutely divine. 10/10 recommend getting the Steak Diane. My husband ordered the oxtail ravioli and gave it a 8.75/10. He absolutely loved it. The overall ambiance was underwhelming. This was supposed to be a nice anniversary dinner and while we were sitting two feet away from each other we practically had to yell to hear each other. This is not a romantic restaurant. A lot of big groups of dudes drinking and talking way too loud. I wish they would have a wing of the restaurant allotted for couples and smaller parties. CHECK THE INSERT IN YOUR BILL FOLIO: Very good restaurant and excellent service. However, when we saw the 'Dining at Pinehurst' card when our check came, all 4 of us were very upset. The management takes an 'administrative fee' out of the 18% automatically applied to the bill and advises you that you can add to this at your discretion. During our stay we asked around in other restaurants about this practice which has led to restaurant owners being successfully sued in our home state. We were told during our canvassing that the management at Pinehurst takes 9% of the 18% and if any additional tip is left on a credit card, management takes a portion of that as well. Bus persons and bar personnel are usually tipped by the servers themselves--again confirmed by servers that appear to be knowledgeable of Pinehurst practices. Is this 9% an accurate percentage--we do not know, but taking any fee out of the server's tip is a highly questionable practice. We would never return to any restaurant at Pinehurst due to this practice. We doubt leaving a cash tip would address the problem. read more

The Carolina Dining Room is a beautiful restaurant in a classic old South hotel. Most of the diners here, like our party, are probably resort guests on a meal plan. This means that most of their meals are prepaid and tips are automatically included. Our reservation was for 7:30 and we were seated promptly in a one-third full dining room. It's hard to understand why we couldn't get an earlier reservation. Our entire meal took 2 hours, and we got desserts to go. Now for the food. Variable, especially for the price ($42 for the steaks if not on the meal plan). The steaks were very good. Better than outback but not as good, per my party, as Texas Roadhouse. My wife's steak Diane was wonderful The salads were good, and the portions large. Disappointments were many among my fellow diners. One didn't like the salad dressings, my wife's fried green tomatoes were cold inside, my wings, though tasty, were lukewarm. The veggies with dinner were meh, as were the potatoes. We also upcharged $9 to cheese biscuits and they were totally ordinary. Bottom Line, if you are at pinehurst on a meal plan and you have a couple of hours to kill, you could do worse. Also, not sure all the fruit pairs well with the Keylime. Ryder cup coffee and pinehurst coffee are both good. Service was excellent. Engaging, present, but not overly annoying. It is a beautiful room. There were post game golfers at the little bar which got loud and a little rowdy. We went with my in laws to Pinehurst for their winter special. From November 15th until early March you can book either a spa or golf session that includes a night at the Carolina inn and the breakfast buffet for $179 a person. This is a great deal for this resort. My mother in law said that the breakfast buffet is the best breakfast she had ever had.... and she was 100 percent right. They had a huge variety of choices. A yogurt bar, fruit, pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelet bar, bacon, sausage, cinnamon rolls, etc. Everything was excellent! I took a picture of my first plate, an omelette and fresh fruit. The guy making the omelette was the man! We wouldn't pay for the breakfast if it wasn't included. read more

Let me start by saying our service was phenomenal. Our server was extremely attentive and outstanding. The food is absolutely subpar. Not worth the $42 for the steak. I ordered a medium rare ribeye and my husband ordered a medium NY strip. Mine was medium and his was well done. The captain came to our table to speak to us about the steak and comp some of our meal. The other patrons completely broke their dress code and let their children actually run around the dining room. What was supposed to be a special night out was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately there was an issue with our steaks, instead of replacing and moving forward, the manager decided to come over and play like everything was great. I recently stayed at Pinehurst and dinner in the Carolina Dining Room was one of the highlights of my trip. This is the type of upscale establishment that you would expect from such a high caliber resort. The service is excellent from start to finish. I was with a group that have been coming here for years and they say that many of the staff have been working there for decades. It definitely shows. The staff are friendly, helpful, and know the menu and the resort well. The food here is also top notch. As an appetizer, I ordered the Oysters Pinehurst. I don't eat oysters often, but I enjoy them on occasion. These Oysters would have been delicious even to someone who doesn't like seafood. They were topped with spinach, bacon, cheese, and buttermilk biscuit crumb. Great start to the meal. As my main course, I ordered the 10 oz. Filet Mignon. I ordered it Medium Rare and it came out medium, but it was still very flavorful and a great cut of meat. Last but certainly not least, for dessert I ordered the Pinehurst Brownie Sundae. It is large enough for probably three people to share, especially after such a large meal. Next time I will order the Mile High Key Lime Pie. It came out looking like a masterpiece. I'm not sure how they stack it so high without it falling. The Carolina Dining Room is definitely somewhere to splurge, but it is a great place to do it. It is a little bit pricey for a buffet, but it's all the fees and stuff they automatically tack on - like that they tack on a 10% gratuity. While I was only here for breakfast, I'm sure I would visit it again should the opportunity arise. They had an expansive amount of options - hash browns, eggs, bacon, sausage, omelette bar, pastries, cereals, bagels, oatmeal, fruit, and the list goes on. My first time at CDR. Other 3 in party had been multiple times. We were 2nd party seated at 6pm open g time. Drinks 2 martinis and amaretto sour spot on. And downright good. Appetizers and salads also good. Trouble brewing on the entrees but really the service as it pertained to the entrees. Parties that came in 15-20 minutes after ours were getting served their meals while we waited an inordinate amount of time. I'm usually ok with small delays but this time it was way too much. When food arrived vegetables were cold and salmon Luke warm indicating it had problems sat there for some time. Waitress offered to reheat but we'd already waited too long as it were. Food was tasty and well prepared- just cold. There were other more minor delays as well but insignificant when compared to serving cold food. Just expected more after hearing so much about the place. Delicious food, carefully prepared and beautifully presented. We have celebrated Thanksgiving dinner and my mother's birthday here. It's a real special occasion place. The service is 5 star all the way as is the food. We love the wait staff, particularly Willie and Linda. The room is gorgeous and relaxing piano music via a live pianist (not a recording) plays while you eat your dinner. On the menu, try the corn bisque, the fresh fish and the lobster/crab roll. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. The steaks are also fantastic and well prepared. The food & service exemplifies true southern style. We were there last Friday night. The place is over-rated and our experience should be shared. We rented a house....as soon as they found out we weren't staying at resort hotel, it seemed that we were "B" players to them. Our waitress was a school teacher and not knowledgeable about food/wine....the business. She could not answer questions. She clearly was in it for the money as a second job. They need to hire people who know the business. Homemade sausage and grits: we got 3 pieces of sausage that were about half-inch each. Maybe 3 tablespoons of grits. Horrible value. Skip it. The sausage had a sour taste...no sage/no red pepper..... Fried green tomatoes: we got 3 slices of tomato on the plate. The tomato was sliced about 1/2" thick.....not the southern way.....thinly sliced.....a plate full. I had the catch of the day. The plate came with carrots that were not peeled!!! Give those to horses please. We had Pellegrino for the table....I asked them to keep it in a bucket of ice....the waitress ignored the request and let it sit on the table....both bottles and get to room temperature. While waiting on the entree, I spoke to the manager....he admitted that the chef is not from the south but is trying to make southern recipes. And then the finale: my friend took care of dinner/paid cash. He told the waitress it was all set. She brings the folder back which I found unusual. I open it and there are 3 quarters/1 dime. 18 % was added automatic and she did not deserve more. I said to her: "by returning this change you are telling us that you weren't treated fairly". Her reply: the resort gets 3%, the bus crew gets 1% and the rest is for me". She has no business doing such a thing. Clearly not trained. Collar shirts, long pants for men, no flip flops. They want to be upscale but with the food value and lack of credibility with the southern dishes....this is a Pass For Sure. After I spoke to the manager about the chef's background....he avoided our table completely. I would have shared the poor etiquette from our waitress, but instead I will share it will all of you. Went to Carolina Room for a celebration meal and to take advantage of the 2-for-1 entree coupon in the local paper for dinners in Jan and Feb. We had made a reservation and arrived 20 min early, only to be told by the smarmy maitre'd that "if we can seat you early, we'll come find you." We sat in the lobby - no staff came by, multiple other diners came and were seated. Finally at our reservation time we approached the front again - barely an apology from the maitre'd, we were seated in a very high-traffic area, with many meals coming out of kitchen being carried across the lobby to the much-busier Ryder Cup lounge. I understand maybe their wait staff wasn't ready, but there were many open tables all through our meal. It would have killed them to let us wait at a table, maybe bring us water, bread and/or take a drink order? Would have been a much nicer start to a supposedly high-end restaurant experience. Our waiter was fine, but food - oh, my: one steak WAY overcooked and the other WAY undercooked despite both to be prepared the same way (2 different steak types). It wasn't bad, it just wasn't fine dining, that's all. Then, to top it off, we are experienced diners and fully expected to tip 20% for the pre-coupon total. When the check was presented, 18% had already been added - which is fine, except would expect an alert that tip was already added, but not a word. A less-experienced (or more tipsy!) diner might have added 15-20% tip on top of the 18% already charged. Felt almost like they were looking for that to happen now and then. Such a low rating because of the arrogance and expense of the place. They need to do better if they feel they have such a great reputation for customer service. read more

During these hard pandemic times, Daniel and Collin, hotel managers, went above and beyond to make our Mother's birthday an extravaganza! Pinehurst Resort is a blessing to our community and not only made this day special, but lots of our cherished family gatherings. We can't say enough of how grateful we are to Daniel and Collin for all their help. We never know how many birthdays we have left with our parents (Dad a World War II veteran turns 96 years young on August 1st).
