Very disappointed. Ordered a Boston cream pie for my wife's 65th birthday. It was not good, we did not even eat it. The cake was a sponge cake the filling was a tasteless filling with chucks of something in it. A Boston cream pie is a cake, not a a sponge cake with a Bavarian cream filling this filling was runny oozed out had no flavor. the filling ran all over, the cake could not even be cut. Their pastries are excellent and there is a great variety. The major draw to G Charles for my wife and me is the bread they bake The baguette loaves are exceptional for this area. They come as close as we have found to New Orleans French bread. I usually buy three or four or more if they have them and freeze what we don't use for later. We are so happy to have found this bakery. I can once again enjoy making Louisiana Poboys that that taste like those from home. read more

I've been on a search for seeded rye bread with a chewy crust ever since I moved to Pinehurst and I finally found some at G. Charles Bakery. Hidden in a shopping center that's seen better days it's a bit tricky to find but worth the effort. I didn't try any of the baked sweets but they looked scrumptious. I stopped in here yesterday to pick up a half dozen cupcakes. I chose three vanilla, a lemon filled and two chocolate filled cupcakes. These were the best cupcakes I have had from any bakery in the area. :) Frosting was perfect buttercream frosting! The icing did not melt or get all weird throughout the day like many other places around town. I love that they have an array of cupcakes but that they keep it simple and perfect. I will definitely be back to try more from this bakery. Give them a try and you will not be disappointed. :) Also, of all the bakeries I've tried in town they have the most moist and flavorful cake! I love visiting this bakery whenever I get a chance, especially to pick up a baguette. My biggest complaint is that I can't stop myself from eating at least part of a baguette as soon as I get back in my car, which results in crumbs in my car.... My wife and I have also tried the pastries and apple fritters and have enjoyed everything we've tried. They also offer dog treats, but we haven't yet gotten any feedback from our puppy on whether they are good or not. There are only a few bakeries in the area, and this one is a little out of the way, but well worth the stop for some fresh bread or pastries. As stated earlier, I love a good baguette, and this bakery has the best of the few bakeries and grocery chains in the area. read more

Short version: I was accused of trying to steal 6 cents from this bakery. Extremely rude customer service from this business. I have never been more offended in my life and will never return to this business. They have lost a customer and all of his friends and family for life. Long Version: I had been to this bakery earlier in the week and tried their cherry danish. It was pretty good so I decided to come back on a Saturday afternoon to try more of their items. I ordered a cannoli and a cookie. My total with tax came to $5.06. I had a $5 bill but I didn't have any coins but I had change in the car. I handed the cashier a $5 bill and took the bag and told him I would be right back because I had the change in the car. As I started to walk towards the door the cashier yelled at me that I had to leave the bag. I was absolutely shocked. I asked him if he seriously thought I was going to steal 6 cents from him and he did not apologize. I gave him an opportunity to apologize or explain to me that he was really just playing a joke on me but when it became clear he was serious I put the bag back on the counter and walked out. I went to my car to get the 6 cents and when I went back in the store to give it to him I asked him if he really thought I would steal 6 cents from him over a cannoli and a cookie. He again offered no apology. Apparently he really thought I would steal 6 cents from him. I was extremely offended at this rude customer service. I told him I would not come back again and he said "Okay, bye." Clearly these bakery owners have no idea what they are doing and have no idea how to run a business. It's very ironic because I was paying cash to save them the credit card fees which amount to much more than 6 cents. I always try to use cash when I shop at small local businesses because I know credit card fees can cost a lot and I do my best to support local business. I was trying to support a small local business I thought had promise but it's clear they have no business interacting with the public. read more

Owner screamed at my mother when she tried to ask him a question saying he was "too busy". She politely asked him to settle down and not scream at her or she would not return. He said he didn't care if she ever came back while still getting loud with her. Needless to say no one in our family or any of our friends are coming back. read more
