The Bagel Shoppe - Bagels Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

Best place to get breakfast for the family! Bagels are always on point not to heavy on the yeast, exactly right! Love this place and Sam is a great guy! read more

We initially decided to try a different bagel shop this weekend because we heard through the grapevine that The Bagel Shoppe makes a good French Toast bagel. Sadly, it did not live up to our hopes and fantasies (that honor is still reserved for the best French Toast bagel in the universe at JT's Bagel Hut in Forked River, NJ). The Bagel Shoppe's French Toast bagel is a slightly sweet bagel dusted with cake crumbs (?) WTF? I was expecting a sweetened, cinnamon swirled, lightly coated with maple syrup and dusted with powder sugar mouth orgy......well, that didn't happen. Skip the french toast bagel. However.....all the other bagels we tried were very, very good as other reviewers have noted. The real surprise this weekend was the Flagel and Bialy. Flagel= flattened bagel. For all you carb conscioius dieters, don't get excited. It may appear smaller but, in reality, it has merely been flattened prior to baking. Flagel sightings are not very common, and my husband loves these mutant bagels. Bialy= a chewy, yeast roll that is similar to a bagel. Bialys are not boiled prior to baking (like bagels are) and are flatter and denser. They don't have a hole in the center but a cute dent and the tops of Bialys are sprinkled with diced onions and poppyseeds. Both the flagel and bialy at The Bagel Shoppe are superb! I just love a good bialy. For a little backround on the bialy...they originated in Bialystock, Poland (cue Mel Brooks in The Producers) and were introduced to the United States by immigrating Eastern European Jews. Well, let me tell you.......this Polish shiksa loves bialys and The Bagel Shoppe makes some really tasty ones. Who says you can't get a good bialy outside of the Lower East SIde? Don't believe the New York food snobs...............no need to schlepp to NYC when you can get a great bialy in NJ. read more

The Bagel Shoppe - Bialy (front and center) with 1/2 French toast bagel next to it. - Bagels Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Bagels are made everyday FRESH in the early morning, for someone who lives nearby it's an amazing smell to wake up to. Staff is great and extremely friendly. Next time you go, ask for Nasimeh, shes definitely the best and most experienced of all. BUT THEY'RE ALL GREAT. Food is of amazing quality and is yet to disappoint me. I try to be there as often as I can because other bagel shoppes, like "Simon's" on Essex St. really do not deserve my money as much as this one. If you ever get the chance, stop by and get a Hazelnut Iced Coffee (extremely refreshing and YUMMY) and a flagel (flat bagel!!! Only place around that sells them and they're PERFECT for people like me who can't stand thick bread) egg and cheese. The menu is plentiful but not intimidating. It has something for everyone to enjoy. To sum it up: extremely friendly staff, great quality FRESH food, extreme variety and CLOSE BY. YOU NEED TO TRY IT OUT, the presence of common, and multiple customers proves so. read more

$7 for a burnt breakfast sandwich. Pieces of black burnt food. Please clean the grill

When you try the blueberry cream cheese on a French toast bagel or a whitefish and lox on an everything bagel you'll understand my rating. I have no idea how this place is rated anything lower than 5 stars. Incredible. read more

I really enjoy the different types of bagels, especially the egg, pumpernickel and plain. Very tasty. I also like the that it is in my neighborhood of Hackensack, NJ. Friendly people work there. I recommend going. read more

Best Taylor Ham egg and cheese on a flagel I've ever had. They cook the Taylor ham nice and well done. You can tell it's sliced Taylor ham and not " pork roll" package. Sooooo good. I'm a frequent read more

Excellent Breakfast sandwiches, Great lunches. Always fresh and yummy! The owner and staff are extremely nice and accommodating.

Great bagels. They have a ton of people working there so it's very quick if you stop in. The problem is that their delivery isn't consistent. Something is always incorrect with the order. read more

The breakfast sandwiches are good, but the staff is rude and unfriendly. Not to mention there are about 10 people behind the counter in an unorganized mess forgetting orders and scrambling around one another. Someone should clean the place up and make sure the cook isn't stacking slices of cheese on his hairy arms before adding them to the sandwich. read more

Sat in traffic and came all this way only to get here and find out they're out of plain bagels!!??? A bagel shop running out of plain bagels at 8am, sounds legit =/ Really disappointing, never coming back. A shame because the staff actually seemed somewhat nice, and they had jalapeno bagels which is rare. Not as rare as having no plain bagels though. Fail. read more

Delicious/ great staff / so many yummy choices / many flavored coffees/ piping hot mini everything bagels /

This place was not worth it. I only went here because of the reviews and I'm pissed I wasted 7 dollars on shitty bagels and an egg and cheese. It's really not that hard to make a good sandwich- actually it's rather hard to make a bad one but by they succeeded. First of all they didn't have a breaded chicken cutlet....so I opted for a simple egg and cheese on a plain bagel. The bagel was not heated and hard- probably at least 3 days old and the cheese was not melted...like seriously. I could've made a better one at home. When I ask for something and I'm paying for it I expect the person to listen. There was barely any filling - it was all bread. I took one bite and threw it out, I didn't even bother eating the plan bagels.... those went in the garbage too read more

Clutch spot, bro their bacon egg and cheese SLAMMIN Turkey Hero SLAMMIN Coffee is ii but they can def get a stronger kind but still good. I get breakfast there for me and my girlfriend for less than 10$ all the time super awesome everyone is so work oriented it scares me. read more

Best. Bagels. Ever. Period. My favorite neighborhood place. Appreciate that it's family owned and run and for me a neighborhood staple. Love it when I catch a fresh out the oven toasty warm batch and the butter just melts! Worth every calorie! read more

First time coming here and they didn't have any bagel that I wanted. Then when I ended up with my last option, that didn't come out good at all. All the cream cheese was just on ONE side of the bagel.... my bagel wasn't scooped after I asked numerous times to make sure it was scooped and when I gladly showed them the bagel they were convinced it was scooped. Just wouldn't recommend this place, especially if you're craving a specific bagel. read more

This place.......I thought it was going to be good....because they have bialys ..not the best.. but bialys...... . I dont know it must be a new culture thing.... people behind the counter serving...running their fingers through their hair... thats not good...and gloves are to protect Our Food From Your Hands ....NOT TO PROTECT YOUR HANDS FROM OUR FOOD....... . Wrapped my buttered bagel in a food wrapper that had mustard smeared on it...alot of it.... . I have to wonder....what ever happened to food safety courses........ ... Getting 2 stars....because I believe in hiring the youth .....but teach them how to do the right thing...... . Turn down the music....stop dancing behind the counter..and work......Learn how to do the Right Thing...And Do It........ . I will not be back.... . I glad ben's bagel barn is there..... . read more

So finally after three years I came back to this place last weekend and I dragged my boyfriend with me as well with promises that this place has the best bagels I ever had. Now I am aware that I havent had what seems to be the privilege to eat at Ess- A Bagel and some of the other highly rated bagel places in NYC but I still believe that this place is amazing. The bagels feel so fresh and soft, they put just the right amount of cream cheese and the price for my plain bagel (with cream cheese and tomato, I dont think they charge much or anything for the tomato) came out to 1.70 something. I would say not bad at all. My boyfriend had the everything bagel with cream cheese toasted. He said they put just the right amount of everything on it, what most places according to him fail to do . So what do we have here? Bagel- soft, fresh, good amount of cream cheese Price- more than decent and also the tea there is awesome ( I got cranberry apple I believe), so is the coffee In conclusion- still highly recommended, and I am eagerly planning my return!! read more

It's an average deli. Their bagels are average size and average flavor. I've tried their poppy seed, everything, garlic, wheat, and sesame varieties. They carry a standard selection of beverage choices. Thumann's is their deli meat of choice. And they have a $10 minimum for credit/debit cards. They offer up to 8 different cream cheese toppings. There are no tables or counter top seating. I've been here enough times to know that you're not going to be wowed, but that also means that you're not going to be disappointed either. read more

They could have killed me. I'm allergic to egg and as such, I didn't order it. That didn't stop them from putting a thin slice of cooked egg on my sandwich and driving me into a panic after I realized too late. Never ordering food for myself here again. Negligent. read more

Best bagel with Taylor ham in NJ hands down! Taylor ham is sliced thin and cooked to perfection... the right amount of crisp. The ratio of Taylor ham, egg and cheese is just perfect. Every time is consistent you are never disappointed. Doesn't matter if the place has a line out the door or if you are the only one there the quality is never compromised. The Grill master always ensures that the Taylor ham is always cooked perfectly. Nothing worse then thick under cooked Taylor ham! Won't ever happen here! Enjoy! read more

I have been in living in the area for over 10 years, this place has steadily gone down hill enough so that I returned food today for a refund, nothing is fresh nothing is made correctly, and to be extremely blunt the place is looking worn down and unkept. The young kids that are employed are not trained so there is no consistent product being offered. 10 years ago maybe a 3 star revue but now I would tell everyone to go to Goldberg's on route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights everything is better there it's not even a close. read more

I love this bagel shop!! I've lived in this area for all of my life and still haven't found a place with a better breakfast sandwich. The French toast bagel is to die for, not too sweet but just right. It can get pretty busy early in the morning and on the weekends but the staff is very nice and can always handle a crowd. If you're in search for a 10/10 bagel, make sure you check out this spot! read more

The Bagel Shoppe - The breakfast special (2 eggs, choice of meat + extra $ for cheese) on a green St. Patrick's day bagel! - Bagels Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

revised to 5 stars from 3.5. Sam and his crew have fixed the reasons why I only gave them 3.5 last year. Bagels are always plentiful now, and the "schmears" are more consistent. Not bad bagels...much better then the average

Friendly staff, fast service, good sized bagels - not too big not to small. Easy in and out parking, convenient location. Their baker's dozen is 14 bagels and a good deal for a crowd. Definitely my favorite bagel place in the Hackensack area, and recommend to anyone. read more

Horrible customer service staff is unfriendly and food IS ALWAYS BURNT. Don't recommend eating there at all.

Stopped in here for a quick breakfast this morning with a group of 4. The bagels are delicious and the menu is fairly large for somewhere with just counter ordering. I had the french toast bagel with butter. The girl who helped me went REALLY heavy on the butter. Like enough butter that half my bagel ended up soggy. The flavor of the bagel was great though but definitely would have been better with less butter. My husband had the egg bagel with eggs and cheese on it. He said it was really good. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stop in to grab a quick bite to go! read more

So my bf has gone there twice to pick us up food: *The first time he stood there for like 10 minutes and nobody even acknowledged him being there. He left and got food elsewhere. *Fast forward 3 months or so we decided to try it again. He asked for 2 coffees made differently... He sees the girl making one of them incorrectly and asked for it to be corrected, she refused and continued making the coffee. (He paid for them anyway) When he was ready to leave he had to ask for a coffee cup holder. He asked for two bagels w turkey bacon, egg and cheese. He complained about his being short on cheese and on mine the egg and turkey bacon was charred and tasted burnt. The bagels were good, fluffy, fresh and flavorful but the stuff on it fell short. Overall the food was pretty good but the customer service wasn't good. It really is a shame because this place has potential. read more

Was looking for a bagel store near Hackensack hospital and came across the bagel Shoppe. I ordered a sesame bagel scooped out toasted with butter. Even though they were pretty crowded the service was fast and I thought the price was fair. Unfortunately the way the bagel was wrapped caused it to leak all out of the wrapping, through the bag, staining my car. The taste of the actual bagel was ok but it caused a mess. read more
