New Jersey, often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor New York, is a treasure trove for food enthusiasts. Most Jerseyans know the big names when it comes to Jersey dining destinations: Montclair, Red Bank, Jersey City, Morristown, Cape May, Ridgewood, Asbury Park, Hoboken, and the list goes on. But what about places that deserve to be on the culinary map, say South Hackensack? Located on Huyler Street, this family-owned establishment likes to put a twist on diner classics to create innovative new flavors. Foodies Diner opened in 2021 and is where we came for lunch after our last visit a year ago. My partner and I were greeted by the owner, Teddy, upon entering this cozy, modern vibe and got a booth right away by the register. Their menu feeds that diner fix with huge selections for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. We decided on the Cod Filet and Grilled Chicken Navajo accompanied with fries. We were treated with the sample of the Chef-Prepared Rice Pudding. The food was amazingly tasty, made with fresh ingredients and good portions. The fries were crispy and not greasy. The price was reasonable for the area. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and full of energy, especially our server, London. I had a great conversation exchanging notes with Teddy. We had another wonderful dining experience, which we continue to recommend.
Decided to come here for a very late brunch on a Sunday. We were the only customers here as it was relatively close to closing time. We were able to sit anywhere and our food came out quickly. The place felt cozy and the menu was quite extensive. I had the Virginia ham with eggs, home fries, and toast. It was okay and wished the ham was thicker. Home fries weren't particularly tasty. The bacon was nice and crispy and not too oily. The monte cristo was okay. I imagine there would've been a bit more enthusiasm for us if we had come in earlier and I don't blame the workers for just wanting to go home haha. If you're close to the area and want solid diner food for a decent price, this is your place. I just wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. I'd say my overall rating for this place would be a solid 3.5.
What a great breakfast find! Lovely restaurant with a very cute atmosphere inside. I enjoyed seeing the plate mats having good ol' promotion of businesses. The lady who served us was just a sweetheart. The food was amazingly flavorful. I got the cowboy Benny which is a Benny with ribeye steak, and that steak was properly cooked and juicy. I upgraded my breakfast taters to disco fries as I wanted to try them without buying the whole order and it was totally worth it. Those disco fries were so cheesy and the gravy was so tasty. My husband very much enjoyed his waffle. That waffle was surprisingly huge. They have a very decent breakfast special that includes a coffee, iced coffee or tea if that's your jam. Parking in the back of the restaurant. They accept card. Looking forward to coming again.
Solid diner food and amazing service! We really loved the Foodies Club sandwich, the breaded chicken was so juicy and the breading was really thin. The sandwich overall was really balanced. Also loved the home fries, their smashed potatoes which I thought were unique and special compared to regular cut home fries. The owners are a sweet couple and you can tell they really care about their customers and the business. Would love to come back soon and try their sweet brunch dishes as well!
Foodies is an amazing place for great food and awesome service. Teddy and Nadine took excellent care of us while visiting their establishment. We ordered my the Chocolate Chip Pancakes, the Foodies Club Sandwich, and the French Toast Deluxe. All three dishes were so delicious. They were all very flavorful. I also orders the Rice Pudding. Another excellent item. The service was great. Nadine was very helpful with her recommendations. Everyone at Foodies were very friendly. The restaurant itself is very warm and inviting. When you walk in, everyone there is so welcoming. This is a must place to visit when in New Jersey. All food options are awesome. And the service is excellent. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks for everything.
Came by on a Saturday for brunch at around 11. The restaurant isn't that big but it wasn't too packed at that time. To start you off, they give you some complimentary french toast bites. I normally am not a huge fan of french toast, but these were really good. We ordered some disco fries to share because after six years of living in Jersey, I don't think I've ever had disco fries (GASP)! They were good but you have to eat them quickly because they cool off fast, which makes the cheese kind of chunky. For the entree, I had a Philly cheesesteak panini and upgraded to onion rings. The meat was kind of dry, and the bread seemed more like pita bread than panini. The onion rings were great though. Hubby had one of the specials, which was the fruity pebbles pancakes, which we both liked. Overall, it was still a good experience. Not every dish at a diner can be a winner. Tip - there is a parking lot around the back but it's small and some of the spots are a bit awkward to park in
My sister brought me here due to the unique items offered on the menu. Friendly staff and food was not bad. We ordered the tutti fruit waffles, pizza fries and subbed for waffle fries, and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They even offered a free sample of their French toast! The pizza fries were good but could use more sauce! Definitely recommend ordering this with the waffle fries instead of their standard fries. Tutti frutti waffles- generous with the fresh fruit but the waffle itself was standard. Would've liked it more if it was chewy and sweet. Not bad! Cinnamon French toast - I didn't personally try it but was told it was good! The sausage was really good and juicy! Cooked to perfection! Parking: small lot in the back but is a bit crowded due to the narrow space.
I like going to different diners, the food is always good and there is a kind of local flavor for most diners in different towns. At Foodies, the food was great, my mom liked it too. I love the Booth style sitting, it had parking in the back. Everything looks so clean and organized, the service was great as well, the waitress was very attentive. The bonus for this Foodies is that if you have children or friends who loves planes, this is an excellent location to eat and watch small places landing nearby at Teterboro Airport maybe? The planes come down really, really low, so is kinda cool if someone is a plane fanatic to watch the constant landings.
Fresh eggs made to order. My breakfast was good. Not a fan of the coffee taste or the sample French toast that was provided.
Beautiful little eatery with people that were very nice!! I loved the good vibes and the food was good. No complaints about this place. The chocolate chip pancakes looked so pretty too! Happy I found this cute spot close by

Found this place on Yelp while in town. From the exterior you can't tell how cute and large it is on the inside. Ambience - cute Food - OK I opted for the Italian omelette with cheese, onions and sausage which wasn't bad at all! I enjoyed it. My son and hubby had pancakes which they describe as just OK. Overall not bad at all! I would return.
Foodies has all the makings of a modern diner - Breakfast all day, extensive menu, great service. I spoke to the owner/manager who said that this was an homage to a "greasy spoon" joint that he grew up with. You can totally feel that in the menu. Came for Saturday lunch with some relatives nearby and it wasn't too busy, only a few regulars. I ordered the chipotle turkey panini. I was expecting some kind of hard roll for the bread but was surprised to see a flatbread. Not what I was expecting but it served its purpose to get crusty and hold in the panini ingredients. The fries were very great as well - freshly fried, doesn't taste oily, crispy outside, tender inside. Will definitely come back for a quick bite when i'm in the area.
While meandering around our local neighborhood, my husband and I stumbled upon this tiny diner and gave it a try. We're so glad we did, because this hole in the wall turned out to be a diamond in the rough. With a nondescript exterior and limited signage, Foodies Diner is easy to miss. It's in an area with mainly houses and mixed use commercial buildings, but the space inside is cozy. I especially appreciated the way the owner greeted everyone who enters and thanked everyone who leaves with notable warmth and small-town friendliness. The menu reads like a true diner - with all-day breakfast and brunch options, as well as standard lunch fare. We ordered a Santa Fe salad and an L.A. burger - which comes with avocado, bacon, onion, lettuce, and tomatoes. The burger was pretty standard, but having it delivered on a warm brioche bun feels a little bit special. The accompanying fries were also great - crisp and potatoey on the inside. The salad, on the other hand, was a near triumph. Served on a large platter, there was a small field of well-seasoned chicken, shredded cheddar, vegetables, avocado, pico de gallo, and - best yet - some pieces of warm, toasted pita. I even sprinkled some pieces of bacon from my burger into this salad, and wow did that take it over the top. I dug into this salad with fair gusto and would absolutely come back for it...which is saying something, since I wouldn't expect to fall in love with a salad at a diner. Service was fantastic, and we were pleased with how reasonably priced our meal turned out to be. There's plenty of parking - either right out front or in the lot further back. read more
4.5 but I'll round up. My kids loved their meals, we had grilled cheese, chocolate chip pancakes, chicken caesar sandwich. Everything came out delicious and timely. The staff was super friendly. A nice choice away from the city. read more

I like going to different diners, the food is always good and there is a kind of local flavor for most diners in different towns. At Foodies, the food was great, my mom liked it too. We really enjoyed our breakfast at Foodies. The diner is clean and has appealing decor, all around. There is convenient parking, at the rear, which is nicely displayed as you approach. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a very cordial hostesses. The booths are spacious and clean and separated by COVID transparent shields. Our server was one of the best that I've experienced. She immediately told us where the restrooms were situated, that there are very good specials during weekdays, and showed us the chalkboard where they are displayed. At the end of the meal, she gave us a take home menu. Both of our meals were very thoroughly enjoyed and their portions were large. When finished, you pay up front, and are kindly reminded to leave a review. We will definitely return to Foodies and recommend it to everyone. read more

Great local American diner with super friendly service. I ordered the Oreo waffle, which had Oreo pieces, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. I also added some maple syrup and bananas on top. Each individual ingredient was pretty standard in quality, but put together this was as tasty as you'd imagine. I also tried the Italian omelette, which had sausage, mozzarella, and some other veggies; it was pretty standard and also came with some potatoes. The waffle and omelette were each $12, which I thought was a good deal. The staff are super friendly, attentive, and helpful and made us feel at home in their diner. Foodies has some suburban diner vibes with some small town character and friendliness. They even have some trivia cards at each table to add to the fun atmosphere. In addition, they gave us two free little pieces of French toast at the start of the meal, which was a nice little bonus. The place looks a bit small from the outside but there is a decent amount of seating inside. There were only a couple other occupied tables when we went for Saturday brunch. There is also a small parking lot behind the diner. Overall, the food at Foodies is slightly above average, and the friendly service and atmosphere make it special. Foodies is deserving of a solid 4 stars from me. read more

Not sure how this place has such high reviews. Must be paying for them. Staff got order wrong, food was extremely mid, and price was crazy expensive. $7 for a side of home fries? $65 (with tip) total bill for my friend and I. We got 1 coffee, 1 egg Benedict, egg sandwich with home fries, and French toast. Absolute rip off. Stay far away read more

My mom and I visited Foodies while on a quick trip back home and it was everything we needed to remind us of home! We moved to Florida almost 19 years ago and obviously miss the Jersey food. Like we all say, must be in the water! We ordered the breakfast deal with 3 eggs over easy, home fries, Taylor ham, and pancakes. It was delicious. The hospitality was great and everyone was super friendly! They truly made us feel like family. We definitely recommend Foodies if you're in the area and craving a nice Jersey breakfast. read more

Found this place on yelp and I saw 5 stars with 100 reviews??? That's really hard to do! The place does look like an old diner on the inside, there is parking in the back, but I could see the spots getting a little tight if there were a lot of people. But inside, it's super cute and got the trendy marquee lights. It's a tiny place inside, but still very cozy and comfortable. So we came on a Sunday afternoon and were seated very quickly. And like the reviews say, you're immediately greeted with the nicest and the most welcoming staff. There are trivia cards on food and drink to have fun with while you wait for your food. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, and my husband ordered the corn beef hash benedict. The blueberry pancakes were soooo gooodd. It rivaled one my favorite pancake spot in NJ. My husband said that while his dish was very well made, he's had better corn beef hash elsewhere and was expecting just a bit more. Personally, I was very impressed with this diner. It is definitely my favorite now favorite diner. And I will definitely be coming back again to try their other food! read more

Met up with an old friend seeking a quick, easy, and casual breakfast. Food: Better than expected. While we expected typical diner food, which Foodies certainly had, the flavor and lack of grease made us very happy. The egg omelette, one in a wrap one not, were delicious. The home fries were flavorful and well cooked. Everything tasted fresh! The bacon was well done and a perfect side. Ambiance: Foodies has an upscale diner vibe. The diner was very clean and the bus boy helped clear tables constantly which I appreciate. The booths are comfortable and there's bar seating as well (no alcohol served). Service: The moment we walked in the door we were greeted and taken care of. The waitress was very nice and made sure to check in on us often. We enjoyed our trip here and would come back. read more

Very nice welcome from the owner Teddy and server Diana. Very comfy atmosphere. Trivia cards on table to play with while you wait - fun to play, but the food came out pretty quick. . I chose the the lunch special # 14 Cuban Sandwich . It included a soup or salad the sandwich and a dessert. My onion soup could use more flavor in the broth. Otherwise the proportion of onions, bread and browned cheese was perfect! The Cuban sandwich had pulled pork, Ham, pickle and a very tasty mustard dressing. However the pulled pork although plentiful lacked seasoning and was quite dry. It included French fries that were crispy and cooked and very well. The dessert of rice pudding again was on the dry side with way too much rice, it needs more custard. It also had a background taste that was unidentifiable. Service was very good! It's a cute little spot off the beaten path surrounded by warehouses and is only open for breakfast and lunch. The owner mentioned that they also owned the Maple Valley Diner in Clifton. read more
This is a cute store and the staff are very friendly! The price is definitely on the lower side and I can see myself coming here regularly. The ambiance is incredible. The taste is okay! I think they'll get better and have deeper flavors the longer they're open, as they are relatively new. read more

Such a cute, tiny, hole-in-the-wall with diner food. We were 3 adults, with two kids and an infant, but there was only space for one high chair and a stroller on the side. Food: your average diner food. We ordered the nachos, and apparently, salsa and sour cream need to be requested (not mentioned on the menu), as told by the waiter. The kids' chicken tenders and fries were good. I loved how the tenders seemed hand breaded and not frozen. I usually have to peel through the breading for my kiddies to get to the chicken, but I didn't have to at Foodies. We also ordered pancakes, an omelet, home fries, and a turkey sandwich. All were decent. To sum it up, the food isn't uh-may-zing, but it's good. We would come back as it's local and affordable. Atmosphere: it's cute and cozy. The windows allowed my kiddies to be busy staring at the passing cars (huge plus for mom). The restroom was somewhat clean, but I've seen worse. They have 2 restrooms for all customers. There is ample parking in the back, just be careful parking and getting out. As it does get tight and narrow. Service: Average diner Service. I do suggest that if you bring your hungry little ones with you, you should order their food as soon as you sit down. Otherwise, parents can catch up while waiting for their food. Definitely give them a try. read more
