Placed an order at 5:55pm for pick up. We were only about 15 mins away and thought our order wasn't that complicated it would be ready...didn't get our order until about an hour later. We got there and my husband waited for about 15 mins and was told it was "almost done". We decided to leave and come back since our 1 year old started crying in the car. We got home and made dinner for the kids and finally got a message at 6:53pm that the order was ready for pick up. Having waited an hour for a pick up order, I was expecting this to be spectacular. My pastrami was fine. Did its job filling me up but pastrami was a little on the dry side and flavoring was whatever. My husband had the plain brisket sandwich which was dry AF. No juices on the bread and not that much flavoring on the brisket. The steak fries and onion rings were mediocre. Nothing to rave about. I thought we'd try something new tonight for Fourth of July but was definitely a mistake...not worth the money I paid and the wait for a pick up order. The girl behind the counter apologized to my husband for the wait, told him his order was ready, and left to do something. We thought she was getting our order but she came back and completely forgot about us... I'm sure she had a lot going on...... Worth a try if you're a local, but not something I'd pick when you're in a rush to get your food. read more

I did find this spot through other reviews here, and, as usual, wasn't let down. Pastrami Grill Bistro proves that for an amazing pastrami sandwich (or pastrami loaded fries for that matter) you don't have to be in NYC. The food here is delicious. We filled the table up with dishes, attempting to try everything. From soup to crepes, we tried it all. Everything was solid, but the highlight was the Rachel sandwich, constructed with two layers of freshly sliced pastrami surrounding a pile of crunchy coleslaw, topped with Swiss cheese and Russian dressing. Also of note were loaded cheese fries topped with pastrami. Honestly, everything was good. The restaurant itself is small and busy, but not overwhelming. When you go, make sure to stop in to the deli (same owners) two doors down for homemade polish food. Well with the trip! read more

Loved the Rueben I ordered! When you order they give you some slices of meat to snack on while you wait. This was a bit fatty for my liking but still good. I got the Rueben with pastrami and it was perfect. There was so much meat that when I pulled the sandwich apart the pastrami was overflowing. The whole sandwich was way too much for me to eat in one sitting. You get pickles with sandwich as well. Also got an order of potato latkes. They were good as well. Absolutely lives up to the hype! The pastrami is insanely tender like melt in your mouth kind of good. The sandwich is definitely messy, but that's how you know it's done right when its packed and stacked with meat! The staff here are so nice! As you order at the counter, they give you some slices of pastrami or corned beef while you wait (as they should!) and my god. That first taste really tells you what you're in for. Watching them slice the meat in front of you gives such great satisfaction and it truly makes your mouth water. By the time they hand you your sandwich, you can't wait to bite into the juicy goodness of it ! -1 star only for the space because of how small it is, but I assume most people order to-go rather than to sit and dine-in. Update: I've finally tried the pastrami. The sandwiches are huge. We got the pastrami cheese fries, and a corned beef reuben. The pastrami is really good and is very tender. The fries are steak fries, which I don't typically love but it worked well as a vehicle for the pastrami. The corned beef is a bit dry. We had some pierogies but these were superrrr oily. We also ordered a matzoh ball soup because I've never had it before. But the second I saw them microwave it in a plastic container, I knew I had made a mistake. It was basically just a matzoh ball in very salty chicken bouillon water. I'm sad that was my first matzoh ball soup experience but am not deterred from finding a real one elsewhere. Based on my previous visit and this one, it seems like you should just stick to a classic pastrami sandwich. It's big enough to share between two people. Next time, I'd like to dine in and eat it fresh. The sandwiches also come with a bunch of pickles, which was nice. Tip #1 - there is a parking lot but because there are so many stores and it's next to Bratek Deli, it's a nightmare. It did also happen to be Good Friday, so maybe that made it worse? I don't remember it being that bad the first time around. Tip #2 - I called ahead to place my order but still had to wait 15 minutes extra after the quoted time. They prioritize walk-in customers, so you might as well just order in store. read more

Absolutely delicious, magical pastrami. Whenever I've wanted pastrami, nothing could compare to Katz's or 2nd Ave Deli in NYC. Well, this is super close or even better. I couldn't believe how moist and delicious this pastrami is. We got the pastrami sandwich and reuben pastrami. When you order, they give you a generous portion to sample and they pile the meat high on the sandwich. The sandwich was so big I could only finish half of it. I ate it the next day and it tasted even better. It's truly magical pastrami. Nice, casual place with a few booths to eat at. The service is great and friendly. Bring your patience when you go. It took a while to order because it was busy and because they took such care when making my sandwich. They trimmed the cuts and looked like they were picking the best cuts for the sandwich. My husband and I were lucky enough to drop in while there was a rare lull in service, which meant we got time to pore over the menu before stepping up to the ordering counter. The sight that greets you at said counter is enough to whet your appetite. Behind a plexiglass window, there are hot pans filled with fresh, uncut pastrami and knife-wielding men expertly slicing up those meat heaps into portions. They have a lovely custom of serving up some sample portions on a plate for you to taste as they prepare your order. My husband ordered the pastrami burger thinking it would just be a pastrami sandwich with added lettuce and tomatoes. We didn't realize this was a behemoth of a meal, complete with a burger patty, caramelized onions, and healthy schmears of house-made Russian dressing and whole grain mustard. Oh, and freshly fried steak fries on the side. It was truly a meal to behold, as every single pair of eyes in the restaurant were glued to that plate as we passed by them to find a seat. The burger patty itself was just fine (and perhaps a little dry), but when topped with pastrami and toppings, this burger felt like the pinnacle of pastrami decadence. If anything fell slightly short for us, the cole slaw felt a little too slick and thick with mayonnaise. But that's hardly a dig when they're serving up sky-high sandwiches of quality meat. The space inside is tight, especially when there's a line. During our meal, we watched the line grow until it was out the door, which left little room to navigate when we needed to shimmy back to get a takeout box or extra sauce. Went the long way to try this before going to the airport to return home, and I was glad to have made the long detour to stop here. Ordered 4 pastrami sandos + 1 corned beef sando to go. Got a plate with generous sample of the pastrami before they started making the sandwiches. The sample was a bit underwhelming, didnt blast the mouth with typical salty flavors. But it was tender as heck and maybe salty enough once layered in a sandwich. The meat portions were very generous in each sandwich. I am glad I didnt go for the doubled up meat option I saw on the online ordering lol. Better to get 2 regular sandwiches since already stacked, instead of 1 sandwich which probably would turn into leaning tower of pisa if doubled the meat. After 4 pastrami made, I had to remind I also wanted 1 corned beef sandwich. I was a bit confused since it was initially just corned beef into bread and closing up so I asked doesn't it have Russian dressing and all since the menu seemed to say Russian dressing, cole slaw, cheese. Just the Russian dressing got added, so I just left it at that since maybe I am confused at the menu. 2 kinds of pickles sliced on the spot and wrapped up to go. Everything just works perfectly. Plus bites of the pickles can provide the added brine and freshness when needed. Had 1 pastrami sando left over so brought that back to LA. Just nuked it and toasted up more in the air fryer since it spent a long time from purchase to going into the fridge many hours later. Gotta say the reheated/toasted maybe even better! This has been my second time here. There are only about 10 tables to eat in. Orders are placed at the counter with 3 or 4 sandwich preparers. They give a generous sample of the meat which you ordered. We had two pastrami Reubens and a corned beef with Swiss cheese. The sandwiches are enormous, most of the fat was trimmed, leaving just enough to make the sandwiches very tasty. They give you a plateful of new pickles that were also delicious. Why go into NYC to get a rediculously priced, equally as good sandwich? The Pastrami Grill is about half the price of most of the famous NYC delis, and no tolls or congestion pricing, with no traffic on this side of the river. I had quite a few issues with my order for delivery, but my review reflects both the food received as well as the ordering experience. I ordered the pastrami sandwich with cole slaw, 1/2 pierogis, and a knish. What I received was a plain pastrami sandwich, a tiramisu (?), and a knish. The pastrami sandwich: bread was regular old rye, nothing wrong with that. The pastrami was not thinly sliced as advertised, but I like thick pastrami. The issue was the texture; my cuts were quite dense and almost spongy and some parts were a bit rubbery. The flavor was good, but the texture was not. Maybe it was an off day, because I see that the other reviews are pretty generous. The knish was soggy. It tasted good, but it was soggy and nobody likes a soggy knish. Ultimately, nobody called me to advise that items were unavailable and then I also got the wrong sandwich, which is pretty rough. I'll give two stars because one feels cruel and is reserved for the inedible. The food tasted good, and that counts for an extra star in my book. However, I probably won't eat here again. read more

It's small and in a strip mall but holy cow!!! I'd cuss but that's a no-no here. The place has an old school charm. You order at the counter, and yes you can sample, and the guys slice and make your sandwich in front of you. And the guys are fantastic. The Sammie are huge and beyond. The turkey is moist and filled with flavor. Sooooo good. Got it with just Russian dressing and it was one of the best I've ever had... rye, turkey and dressing. And the pastrami is my #2 now. Moist, thick and not too fatty and just insanely good. I still lean towards Langer's in LA as my all time #1, but I think I put this over Katz's! So there's that!!! After watching a commercial from Katz deli where they showed a beautiful corned beef sandwich, I decided I wanted one. However since I've been recovering from surgery I realized I had to get one locally. I decided to take a ride over to Bogota and get one. This restaurant makes incredible food and the service is great, they feed you samples as they make your sandwich, just like Katz. Friendly people too! I wonder how they make money when they give so much meat! The place has a small area for eating as well as some bar type tables outside. It's a decent place to eat but I chose to take it home. I couldn't eat the whole thing because it was so much. Delicious food and I'm so glad to have a place where I can get a sandwich so good close to home. And I have leftovers for today! read more

Stopped here on my trip back to NJ and I really enjoyed the combo pastrami and corned beef sandwich I had. Small store front location with a few tables and it's a very popular spot to get a true deli fix! I love Katz deli in NYC as the gold standard in a great kosher style deli sandwich and like Katz's you go to the counter and a cutter ( an employee slicing the meat and making your sandwich) will slice and prepare your sandwich! Although this isn't Katz's it satisfies with its quality meat and tremendous size which is a really good value for what it costs. The corned beef is good, the pastrami is the best in the area and vies for the best in new Jersey. But that being said it is not better than Katz deli. I think it is really good for new Jersey and some places in New York. The people are great and the meat is fresh. I will go back when I have a taste for a pastrami sandwich and do not want to take the drive to Katz. read more

It's perfectly friendly at the Pastrami grill. Brave the lines in this old school place and step up and order from the all business counter man. Make sure you tell them how lean or fatty you want your pastrami. (I didn't have the corned beef). And tip your counterman for a slice of succulent beef. The bread is ok and the mustard is deli basic. The meat is super tender, almost too tender. It must have been wet aged in some kind of papaya liquid or at least tenderized in some manner before smoking and further processing. That's my gripe. The meat has no real tooth. It's mushy when you bite into it. Quite Soft. It's more like barbecue shredded. Down south style. The meat definitely needed more salt... It's not bad, just not as good as some that I know in the Newark/NY Metro area... I'm pretty sure that it won't make a bit of difference what I think ..... but this just isn't to my taste. Hands down, one of the best pastrami sandwiches I have ever had. A fun place to visit where you get to order and watch them slice up your meat and construct your massive sandwich. If not too crazy busy, they'll offer up a plate with some extra meat for you to sample while you watch the process unfold. The atmosphere is clean and what you would expect a deli to be. The staff is friendly and very efficient at what they do. We have order whole briskets for a family get together. It was a huge hit. We sliced up the meat at home to make sandwiches along with the bread from PGB. Mustard and pickles included. Make sure you order extra, because the left overs heat up great the next day. read more

I kept hearing a lot about how good this place is. So I took the drive down route 46 and then off on a side road. I got there on Saturday afternoon around 1230. It wasn't too busy yet. I was able to walk right up to the counter. You have the cutters behind the counter. Just like in KATZ. You tell them what you want, and they'll slice a few slices of pastrami for you to try or you can request corned beef or both I got the pastrami sandwich and french fries. They asked if you want it with the mustard or not while they were assembling the delectable sandwich. I brought my steaming hot pastrami sandwich and golden steak fries over to a table. As I sat down, a rush of people came in, and the line was very long. I saw there was nice bark on the pastrami. It looked very good. I grabbed the piece out of the sandwich and just tried it Solo Dolo. It had a great flavor, smoky and juicy. Definitely very flavorful with a smoky tang. Definitely had a good amount of fat on it. Very good rye bread. It was big enough to cover the meat in the sandwich. The french fries had a nice outer skin. A little crispy. Fluffy potato on the inside very fresh and delicious. Dr. Brown's cream soda really hit the spot. I didn't order matzoh ball soup this time. I finished up the sandwich and all of the french fries. I probably wouldn't of had room for the soup. Everything came to $25 with the soup. It would've only been $30. If you go to KATZ. The pastrami sandwich alone would be $30. Then if you added on french fries and soup à la carte and the soda would be at about 60 bucks. So it's half price here in Garfield, New Jersey. It's a big saving that to have to drag all the way into the city. I definitely say this pastrami is in my top three Nice bark . Flavorful tangy with a good amount of fat. Next time I'll go back and try the brisket sandwich with matzo ball soup. With latkes. read more
