The social media hype is absolutely warranted! My wife and I tried to visit a while back, but we were not in the mood to sit in the lounge area that day. Fast forward a couple of months, and we finally made it back this past weekend. It was well worth the wait. I had seen Casano's post about the cheesesteaks and could not resist. We ordered the Drunken Tor round pizza and a cheesesteak, and neither disappointed. Everything was incredible. I finished the remaining pizza a few days later and could not believe how delicious it still was after being reheated. Usually, the better the food, the less gracefully it survives as leftovers, but this pizza was a rare exception. The crew behind the counter was fantastic and patiently guided us through the menu as first timers. I am already looking forward to going back and working my way through everything else they offer. The "Grandma's Living Room" vibe in the waiting area is the perfect finishing touch. We watched Goodfellas on VHS while they prepared our food. One of the best places to eat pizza! If and when you get a pie from here...order a Drunkin Tor Pizza and a Chicken Parm--simply DELICIOUS!!! You will NOT regret it. Flavors are spot on and want to get more but I live in VA, lol! The staff are friendly and helpful! They treated us like family and that's what establishments should be like towards their customers! Casano's turns out a really solid plain pie. The crust is thin with just the right amount of crisp, and the dough has a subtle sourdough flavor that adds a nice layer of complexity. As soon as you step inside it's like you're transported to your grandmas living room , the decor inside is 1000/10 I ended up ordering the drunken tour ( round pizza) and chicken parm stracciatella with vodka sauce. I placed the order in store ( they have a tablet where you place your order ) and waited about 15 minutes! While waiting for the pizza , I sat in the couch and watched the movie on the tv absolutely loved it! After a year of drooling over social media- finally was able to come in and check out this authentic pizza parlor in a quiet Rutherford neighborhood. The second we were walking up to the restaurant Frank Sinatra was being played outside... which set the mood perfectly for the nostalgic set up inside. Saw an influencers post about this place and I had to try it. It looked so retro and fun! This place is cozy as it stages like a retro 80-90s living room. There are few seats inside and some chairs outside so it is very small space. We ordered the burrata pie which tasted delicious and fresh. However, if you aren't going to finish the pie the slice does get a little soggy from burrata. We also ordered the casear salad and I would say skip it as I have had better. I hear the vodka sauce is where it's at and the chicken parm with the vodka sauce so I definitely plan on giving those a try. They were busy with the orders when we went so the service was okay. We had to ask for an update on our order as it was taking a while. You place order on the tablet. The refreshment options are stocked in the retro fridge and are self service if you have ordered. I wish I could put a gif into my review of a person fainting or doing one of those death drops that you see in RuPaul's drag race. If Cassano's is not voted, best new Pizza in New Jersey, then you know the Pizza gatekeepers aren't allowing it. To start I can tell this owner has some chops because he's displaying a Lucalis pizzeria hat and serves different variations of pizza from New Haven style, to Trenton style, to what I call a New York Brooklyn hybrid. I say this because I haven't had this style of pizza since I ate from the hands of Dom DeMarco of Diffara's. When my wife first took a bite of Casano's regular cheese, her eyes lit up and immediately we said Diffara's. I was transported 20 years back to Brooklyn when I was living there. There is a very close similarity to Casano's and Diffara's and I mean that as a compliment. Both finish their regular cheese with olive oil, basil, but Dom sprinkled gran padano, Casano's uses Pecorino. Most importantly, much like Dom, they're aren't afraid of a little char on the crust, that's adds an additional layer of flavor. Cheers to the three youngsters behind the counter who were slinging pies and manning the oven. I tend to describe good pizza as something that looks effortless and that's the exact quality that I feel from Diffara's, Lucalis, and now Casano's. These folks behind the counter nailed it. The last detail and similarity I would like to point out is when we finished our pizza we did not feel awful. My wife and I would crush a whole Diffara's Pizza between the both of us and we would walk out surprised that we didn't feel awful, and Casano's is no different. Again, this goes back to my description of effortless Pizza meaning there isn't too much toppings. It's not overly saucy and acidic, or too cheesy, this pie was just right! I didn't grow up in NJ, but from an outsiders perspective now living here I have to say I'm beyond impressed with the new style of pizza joints, popping up here in the Garden State. Yes the jersey bar pie has it place, but new stalwarts like Brooklyn Square in Jackson, Emilio's in Nutley, and Casano's in Rutherford are adding to the pizza diversity, making me wonder is NJ the best pizza state? I went to Casano's Pizza Parlor with a group of friends this past week on a Thursday evening. We have been eyeing this pizza restaurant and we finally penciled it in our schedules to make the friend hangout happen. The hangout was awesome because we were so pleased with all of our pizza. We ordered the Drunken Tor pizza (mozzarella blend, homemade vodka sauce with imported Italian cream, pepperoni cups, topped with stracciatella, basil, freshly grated pecorino, and hot honey). We ordered as shareable: fresh mozzarella (Hand stretched mozzarella wedges served with a side of marinara), meatballs (Grandma Marie's third generation recipe of (3) pork and beef meatballs & homemade sauce, topped with pecorino romano and basil) and also Stuffed Long Hots (Long hots stuffed w/ sausage, mozzarella, topped with tomato sauce and stracciatella) and Chicken Parm Stratciatella (Chicken Cutlet, Fresh Straciatella, and Vodka Sauce). For our pizzas we ordered: Round Vodka Stratciatella (Our mozzarella blend, homemade vodka sauce with imported Italian cream; topped with stracciatella, basil, freshly grated pecorino) and as our third pizza we went with the Round Smokey Roni. By far one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Cooked to perfection, the pizza was super flavorful and had the perfect amount of crisp! The seating area as you go to pick up your pizza is the best part of this place and makes you feel like you're getting pizza from your grandmas house in 1993 (I wasn't even alive then but this is what I'm assuming it would've been like). I've finally made it!!! Exceeded all of my expectations. Street parking on a small side street. Definitely a "trippy" throw back when you walk in. Casano's went outside the box and created an environment that all of us foodies can appreciate. Not your typical pizza joint. We got the Buffalo Chicken Sliders (Sundays only), the drunken chicken parm, the Drunken Tor pizza and the French Onion Soup pizza. From A-Z, it can't be beat. I see people complaining about it being a few sheckles more. You pay for what you get. The chicken parm was MASSIVE and one of the best I've had. I shared it with my wife and there was still left overs. The kid never reacts to anything. After the first Slider, he actually said, "these are really good. " I didn't even get one because he finished them the next day after school. French Onion Soup is always my favorite. If you like French Onion Soup, this is a must try. At Uncle Vinny's down the block (3 minutes away), I finally decided to see if $32 for a plain pizza was worth the price. They have no app, force you to sign up for Toast (whatever the eff app that is), then the website just goes in endless loops between your Cart and Checkout every time you click Checkout. Some of the best pizza in the game. I love how they can really dial in the temps for different styles of pies, and they are all good. The French onion pie was so good and a stand out for me. I tried casanos a few times and have to say it's probably the best pizza (pick up non Resturant) in Rutherford although I have not tried the new spot bite & bite. The first time I got it it was pretty good. The second time I thought was not as good as the first. The service is great and the place has this really cool retro vibe. Amazing service, pizza and ambiance! Super friendly staff and owner! This is the best pizza in New Jersey that I've been to. The plain pizza is a burst of flavors from the sauce to the bread! The bread for some reason reminds me of "old school" fresh baked bread like the kind an Italian Nonna would bake! Crust has its own distinct flavor that transports you to childhood and the smell of freshly baked Italian bread (if you're from the area you know) and together with the sauce ... a perfect pizza!! They have other choices that are personal preference, but when you want to know if a pizza is good you always start with the plain. The plain pizza says it all. It tells you how authentic the bread and the sauce are. Also lets you know if you should be coming back. This isn't the "no other choice than to order from the limited selection of pizza parlors in my town" type of place. My daughter wanted to try this place because she saw it on Instagram so we did we order the drunken tor pizza very delicious in abut i personally don't like my crust burnt, but it was delicious. We also order the Caesar salad, which comes in a pizza box I've never seen that before super garlicky , but good and last, but not least the chicken parm vodka sauce was OK. It definitely needed some seasoning if they would just season the chicken with a little onion powder, garlic powder, little salt and pepper. It will be delicious. read more

Went to Casano's in Rutherford for lunch today. I have pros and cons of the place. I got the chicken vodka Parm. Pros: it was a huge piece of chicken, the chicken was amazingly crispy, a good price for what it is with a good amount of sauce and cheese on top. The price of 18 bucks is pretty good for the size of the chicken! The ambience in the waiting room is right out of a dream from when I was 12 years old in the 80's in one of my older relatives place. It may have been a little gimmicky but I loved it for what it is. Cons: the biggest con was the vodka sauce tasted like it was out of a can. The time it was supposed to be done was at 1:30 and it wasn't done til 1:55 (this wasn't a big deal except for the next point), it wasnt very warm for a chicken vodka Parm that was just done. It wasn't really above room temperature. The cheese is purely fresh Straciatella cheese and I didn't notice any melted mozzarella on it which I ultimately prefer. I would love to try this place again for the pizza (and I hear the cheese steaks are pretty good). If I got a chicken Parm again, I wouldn't get it with vodka sauce since it wasn't a kind I liked. Also there is no where to sit and eat your meal there (for anyone considering to do so) Over all, I think it is worth checking out. Just because it isn't the type of sauce or cheese I don't overly prefer, I am glad I tried it. The chicken was flavorful and crispy (and stayed that way!!!)!!! That vodka sauce and Italian cream give it a slightly sweet and velvety mouth feel that pairs deliciously with the pepperoni. They have a good dough and use good ingredients. Both times had a little wait, but you really don't mind. It's like sitting at grandmas waiting for the food. Love the decor and laid back feel. Finally got to try this place! As a single girlie I haven't been able to go since they only sell pies, no slices. Walked in on a Friday night with a couple of girlfriends and immediately the owner greeted us and was super friendly! While we ordered and waited I pulled out my cashes camera and light, asked if I could tape him making a pizza and he was like absolutely! So great. There are no tables inside, just a typical 80's living room haha so charming and comfortable. While we talked and waited for our pizza, another guy who was there kept telling us how amazing the chicken parm was and before we knew it the owner brought us a sample to try! Truly loved the original Tavolino's joint and would have no issue driving 40+ mins to get pizza. It was THAT good! Once they closed shop and we started hearing whispers about the birth of Casano's Pizza Parlor, I knew I needed to give this place a try. Ordered: - Drunken Tor (Round) - Casano's Burrata (Round) Regarding the round pies I must say, ordering on the weekend just didn't do this place justice because what I truly loved were their square pies - that's where I think Casano's truly shines. Only round pies were available the weekend we ordered. But concerning the rounds, they were packed with flavor and had a great undercarriage + crust on them. Unfortunately the Burrata pie looked more like clumps of mozzarella, we really didn't get any of the soft ricotta interior of the Burrata cheese. But I'm not giving up on Casano's just yet - I'll have to revisit one day in the week + grab a square pie to truly give this establishment an honest review. After seeing Casano's for a while on instagram and food reviewers posts, I was finally in the area this week for work and had to give it a try! Definitely was as advertised and had great food with a cool atmosphere. The old living room from the 70s-80s theme was so cool and definitely worth a stop if you're into that kind of thing! I got the chicken parm and it did not disappoint. My only complaint was that it wasn't that hot temperature wise but otherwise had great taste and was such a creative take on a traditional chicken parm. My friends got the drunken tor and that was great as well with so much flavor. The iPad ordering was smooth and seamless but I personally like a face to face interaction with employees. The wait wasn't that long for how busy they were but the food was pretty pricey (although I already knew this going into the place so it doesn't take away anything from them). All in all it was worth the trip and lived up to the hype. If I am back in the area again in the future I would like to try their Casano's round, New Haven round and the Caesar salad but wouldn't drive a crazy length just to go back. I finally got to try Casano's in Rutherford after seeing the chicken parm all over the internet. It definitely looked the part. It was huge and picture perfect. The cutlet was crispy, and the vodka sauce was good. We also got a drunken tor, which had a nice flavor. There was a big burnt bubble on the pie that was a little disappointing, but we ate around it. I noticed a hint of cherry in the taste. Maybe the hot honey had some cherry in it? I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it worked. I'm definitely going back!
