Made reservations for a late Sunday evening date night. Glad I did because the place was full. We entered through the back (also where there's a parking lot) and got to walk through the entire restaurant. There's large tables, farm style, booths and (I think) 2 separate rooms for large parties. The ambiance was lively in a good way. We were sat right away, our table for 2 was very close to the next one's on either side (I'm not a fan of that) but it worked. Service was prompt and friendly. We started with a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc (after 3 the bottle would have made more sense!) and the beet salad, delicious- the goat cheese made it. For entrees we had the lobster risotto ($52) and the seared tuna ($43). I can't explain how amazing these 2 dishes were, absolutely perfect in flavor, texture, and quality, talk about elevating your palate. For dessert we had the espresso martini, now this was delicious, I have this drink at many places and this one so far has to be my favorite, smooth and well balanced. I'm so glad we finally tried this place out; definitely expensive, but worth every penny. Looking forward to more date nights. read more

Nice upscale place in Pasadena. Didn't really order much here since it was just for lunch. Wine was reasonable and good. Just ordered the cheaper of the two Cabernets. It was suitable. Bread came out fresh and warm. I had the chopped chicken salad. It was fresh and exactly what I expected. Vinaigrette dressing was good as well, light but flavorful. Food prob deserves a 3.5, but overall was a very nice experience so I bumped them up. read more

Been wanting to come here since I started seeing reviews and photos pop up on yelp. My sister and I ordered a few different things and they were all excellent. We had the house made bread and butter that was brought to the table and it was delicious. We started with oysters, shishito peppers, and the romanesco. And also asked our server to bring us wine that paired with our dishes. She did a great job. The oysters were excellent. They happened to be from Morrow bay today, and were served with a lemon vinegar type brine, along with cucumber pearls. Fantastic. Shishito peppers had a lemony type cream and grilled onions with them and a mild heat to each. Quite good. The romanesco had chorizo and a foam over it that made a unique and delicious dish. We were happy with all of it. We wound up splitting the fresh crab tagliatelle pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil. Pasta made in house, crab real and fresh. So good. For dessert we got the terrine. It was topped with almonds and strawberries. Delicious. We paired it with port wine and a coffee. A thoroughly great meal and this was for lunch. It's worth noting that every dish that was supposed to be hot in this restaurant was. You could tell from the bread, to the crab pasta, it was all steaming and freshly cooked. One of the better "finer dining" options in pasadena. This is a "farm to table" style restaurant that puts its emphasis on the freshest ingredients. The space is modern and very open feeling. Color palette and decor is pleasant and soothing. As the name suggests, much of the decor is "tree" related. Food we got: -spicy chili with beef fat candle: this was phenomenal. Rich chili and the beef fat that melts into it turns the chili mix into something that reminded me of eating bone marrow. Rich and fatty!! Came with 3 pieces of toast you can spread the chili onto. So delicious. -Fig salad. Refreshing salad. Good overall flavor and balance between the dressing, greens and fig. -NY strip. Cooked perfectly. Being a NY cut it has more texture than say a filet. It had a good char to the crust and perfectly pink/red in middle. Sits on top of a crusted potato with creamy spinach. Everything about this was perfect. Although the amount of steak looks small, it was the perfect size. And the creamy horseradish sauce wasn't very spicy but added another layer of flavor to the steak. -the missus had the yellowfin tuna. It looked fantastic and she loved it. Had the pleasure of experiencing Chef Ian's 3 course lunch this afternoon. Seafood salad with plentiful crab, clams and shrimp danced well together and warmed us up for what was to come. Butternut squash with zucchini pasta was incredibly balanced, one of the best I've ever had! Perfectly seared Sea scallops with an array of beans was such a treat. For dessert we had a layered chocolate mousse cake topped with freshly sliced strawberries and toasted Spanish almonds for an amazing texture and nutty finish. I'd been hearing great things about this place for awhile. But when I checked out the menu, something about the idea of having "love" as one of the ingredients in a dish made me think they were taking their vibe a little too seriously. Still, we made reservations to celebrate my birthday. I was absolutely bowled over. I'll admit the building itself is weird if you come through the back entrance. But once you're inside, the decor is great. Kinda rustic, like Joanna Gaines when she's in her cool, hip mode. There's a great mix of concrete, and glass; somehow the greenery works with it. The front room is cozy with a fireplace and the candles give the place a romantic atmosphere. The best part is that the kitchen is open. The staff are doing great stuff and its lovely to see them at work and eyeball other dishes on their way out. Also, they are absolutely nailing farm-to-table California cuisine. We ordered the artichoke appetizer. Contrary to most places in Cali, it wasn't just a whole grilled artichoke. But the tender bottoms and stems. The flavors were clean but complex somehow. We were only planning on one appetizer, but the waiter raved so much about the octopus salad that we had to try it. Again, there was complexity and bright flavors. So damn good. For entrees, I had planned on the sea bass. But they were serving scallops as a special and they're my favorite. The serving size (4 large scallops) was ample and they were perfectly cooked when they arrived at the table. About half way through I discovered this small fried rice "stick" underneath. Man, was it good. Hubby ordered the pork chop. It was beautifully plated and the reduction that they served was perfectly balanced between sweet, acid, and fall spices. We were both too full to have dessert, but maybe next time. They were kind enough to wrap our leftovers and keep them at the host stand for us until we were ready to leave. Also, they validate for the parking lot in the back. On the way home, hubby said, "My tongue is tired from all the good flavors." I couldn't have agreed more. Just wow. From the waiter to the hostess, they made sure to take the best care of us, especially since my companion has a disability. We greatly appreciated how accommodating they where for him and his walker. We live in Pasadena and tried out The Arbour for the first time with family in town. Our party of 3 shared the Tagliatelle pasta, bison tartar, beef chili, artichoke salad, and hummus as appetizers; Seabass and NY Strip Loin as entrees; and the baked California and berry and custard for dessert. Everything was delicious. If we had to pick, our favorites were the Tagliatelle pasta, artichokes, bison tartare, and NY strip. But really everything we had was so good! High quality ingredients and careful attention to details and flavors. More than anything, we could really tell that the restaurant's owners care about their customers. The owners went above and beyond to accommodate our party on a busy Saturday night, which was greatly appreciated. It's not very often that you get that level of customer service these days, especially on the busiest nights of dinner service. We loved our experience at The Arbour and will definitely be back! read more

It's sad, but I feel that we received such poor service the 2nd time coming here that I have to make this review. It's been a month since I first tried The Arbour and decided to come here for my bf's birthday. We made reservations and were promptly seated by the hostess (who was the only person who even checked on us throughout our meal, really). It started off good enough with our waiter (different person from our first trip here) describing and highlighting specific dishes to us. That was great! We ordered drinks and tried to order appetizers first, but he told us that he doesn't like doing that since he likes to time the appetizers and entrees to come out without a huge gap in time (this is important to note because that is exactly what ended up happening - even though we ordered appetizers at the same time as the entrees). One of us ordered wine and another a cocktail. The cocktail came out with a small sample of the wine and we were told to try it and the waiter would come back in a few minutes. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. We had a party of 5, but one person was stuck in traffic. We ordered appetizers for the table and 4 entrees. The 5th person showed up before appetizers came out and we sat for 10 minutes before I had to waive down the waiter to add her entree. It was at that time that we mentioned we wanted to order the wine he provided the sample of, and he looked confused, but then said, oh okay! In the meantime, our waters were never refilled once we chose regular water. When we were first seated we were given the choice of sparkling or flat water. We said flat please, and realized only after the 2nd bottle, that they also offered regular water. After we finished the 2nd bottle, when the waitstaff said, "another bottle?", we said, "regular water please". From then until the very end of the meal, we never got our water refilled again with any water. Our waiter didn't come by to check on us, but the hostess did - she came by between appetizers and asked how things were. At the time, we had just gotten the apps, so all was well. We said great and she offered us more bread. I saw her approach the waitstaff and say something - but we never ended up getting our bread! We saw the waitstaff person come out with extra bread, looked around, and then ended up giving it to a random table. There was a good 30 minutes between appetizers and when our entrees came out. Exactly what our waiter said would NOT happen, actually happened. I feel like we were the forgotten table. Our tab was over $400, and yet no one but the hostess came by to check on us to make sure everything was okay. Even paying the bill took 15 minutes for them to come and take the bill with the credit cards (by that time, there were only a handful of tables left). Our reservations were for 7:15 and we didn't leave the restaurant until after 10 - this is ridiculous since other tables around us were turned over and the new patrons ate and left in the time we received our full meal. The food was great though - which is the only reason I did not give this a 1-star. The service was by far one of the worst I've encountered in a very very long time. I'm really disappointed and wish we had our original waiter from our first visit, because he did a wonderful job. Last night's waiter was completely absentee. read more

We had a dinner here around 6. It's my first visit at this restaurant, I do like the location and atmosphere. The place was pretty empty when we got there, only a couple tables were seated. I checked out the online menu in advance and wanted to try the octopus salad, but they don't have that anymore. Yep, the online menu isn't updated. The steelhead trout is not on the menu either. Between the 4 of us, we ordered a few appetizers and 3 entrees. For appetizers, we had the seafood salad, frog legs w/ garlic and butter sauce (special of the day), half dozen fresh oysters served on ice, and baby kale salad. For entrees, we had the Smoked duck breast for two, duck legs, crispy black rice, roasted turnip and cream spinach, sea bass, and clam linguine. The appetizers were ok, portion was small but with good presentation. The frog legs were tendered, but didn't have much flavor. The garlic and butter didn't do much to the frog legs. There were some edamame, and they tasted bland too. The seafood salad was fresh, and it had real crab meat! There were lumps of crab meat, and I could taste the sweetness of the crab. So thumb up for that. It wasn't overly seasoned or dressed. Salmon was only a couple tiny pieces. Oyster was really fresh, I could taste the sweetness of the oysters. They weren't too big, just perfect size. The citrus mignonette was on the side, adding that to the oysters made them tastier. This is my favorite appetizer. Baby kale salad was ok. I like the beet most. There was no dressing. If there was any, I couldn't taste any. As far as entrees, the portion really depends on what dish you order. The clam linguine's portion is bigger than the sea bass. Clam linguine was delicious. There were a lot of clams, which I really like. The ratio for clams and linguine was good, almost 1:1. Yep, this is the first time I see so many clams w/ linguine, usually other places just give you a few. The linguine was al dente also. There was enough sauce to keep the dish moist and tasty. I definitely will order this again. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The skin came out crunchy, and the fish was flaky and moist. However, the fennel was really rough, so was the asparagus. The chickpea cake was something new, I don't see that everyday. It tasted quite bland, didn't have much flavor. Now, it's the smoked duck breast w/ duck legs, crispy black rice, swiss chard, roasted turnip and greens. Definitely, the presentation of this dish really caught all the attention. The duck was covered in a dome of smoke. The duck breast was cooked really well, and had the smokiness. The skin had some saltiness and seasoning on it, it made the duck breast have more flavor. However, the duck legs were dry, and needed some sauce. The skin was crunchy. The Swiss chard or whatever greens were soaked in butter, it's like a mushy green pile, but not a puree. The amount of butter almost made me spit out the greens. It's horrible. The turnip was supposed to be roasted, but they were more like boiled. The black rice was interesting though, it's flavorful, crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. I like the black rice the most out of the whole dish other than the duck breast. Nothing special about their dessert. We had the rich chocolate mousse coffee cake and fresh blackberries w/ lemon custard and sunflower seeds brittle. Overall, this place isn't bad. Food is meh or ok depending on the dish. Service is great, and parking is definitely great. Environment is good. read more

Very unhappy with my last visit. Our waiter let us know about the specials and then left us waiting 10 minutes to place an order. The good thing is that the front desk noticed and took our order. I thought I was just coming for a wonderful dinner with family and friends. Instead it just turned out to be a lesson in Etiquette. The female waiter (short blonde hair) had such a horrible attitude and tone when one of my friends wanted to order dessert early in our dinner. She said with a shunning tone that the table had to be cleared first! When we were clearly not done. I don't think I needed to explain that my friend didn't even need to order dinner, she really came more for dessert. And throughout the night she clearly demonstrated that she was not happy waiting on us. The food took forever for it to come out, it was not even hot. We didn't wanna say anything anymore since she seemed very frustrated. It's too bad that she was having an off night and it had to roll over onto us. It really spoiled our dinner. read more

Food was delicious, ambience was nice! However the reason for the low rating is the service! Came here on Monday evening with 6 of my coworkers. So a party of seven. Service was terrible! It was not a busy evening as there were many empty tables. 2 of my corworkers ordered dessert instead of of an entreé and asked the waiter to bring it along with everyone else's food. The food was brought out by the busboy not the waiter assigned to our table. My coworkers' dessert were not brought out. They waited for the waiter to come and ask how how food was and if everything was ok with the order, but that never happened. The rest of us finished our meals and no one ever came to us to ask if we would like dessert or how the food was or if we needed anything else. Again my coworkers who ordered the desserts didn't receive it (this whole time). We flagged down the waiter (guy with bleached hair) to ask about the desserts previously ordered the answer was "I'll check on it" and didn't return to let us know the status of it. We flagged him down again and that's when he asked the rest of us if we wanted desserts which we had to tell him we don't know what desserts they had. He then brought menus over and handed them out with an attitude. My coworkers who ordered desserts instead of meals still did not receive them. When my coworkers finally received their desserts that were ordered more than an hour before were dissapointed with them. One ordered an apple strudel which was bearly warm. The other order the chocolate mousse which she said was not good at all the raspberry on it was too overpowering. My opinion about the service is that since we were a group of 7, gratuity charge is already included which means that no matter how bad the service is the waiter is already getting a tip. Which is unfair. I feel if anyone should get a tip, it should be the busboy that brought the food out to us. He was really the one who did something well. Late review. Ate there two weeks ago. Beautiful restaurant. Appetizer was amazing but entrees were fine--I enjoyed my fish and my friend said his chicken was ok. Host and hostess were very welcoming and pleasant. I'm a bit put off though by our initial waiter--don't remember his name. Caucasian male around late 20's or early 30's. After we received our food he passed us off to a new server. Although she was very pleasant and did her job, our first server did not explain why he passed us over to her. I thought perhaps his shift was over, but he remained in the restaurant serving other tables! I'm keenly aware of how businesses treat customers. I feel that this male server, while knowledgeable and experienced, is judgmental of his customers based upon how they look. My friend, who paid our bill with cash and left a very generous tip for the waitress, wore jeans and a denim shirt. I made my reservation via Yelp so after our dinner I Yelped back to the restaurant and said I was perplexed about something. Sadly, no one bothered to write me back to ask why. This is historically one of our favorite restaurants that brings us many fond memories, but management: PLEASE pay attention to these more recent reviews giving you direct, honest feedback about the long-haired "blond" waiter who is making you lose customers. Everyone BUT our waiter was very hospitable, ensuring they picked up this inadequate employee's slack. He was rude, ignored our table throughout the night despite him standing right next to us doing nothing and he consistently did less than bare minimum. Food was great, everyone else was great, but whatever this miserable person is internally struggling with really ruined a memorable experience for us. I almost didn't want to leave a generous tip but I wanted to ensure everyone else was compensated for their hard work. I recently took my out of town guests to The Arbour. Sad to say I had never been myself. The ambience is lovely. So spacious we could even hear each other across the table. And beautiful! We had a lovely dinner: scallops for two, steak and pork chops for the others, a couple of shared appetizers, and a good bottle of California wine. Our guests were impressed it was not a "chain." I wish there had been a few more items on the menu under $30. Nice, open hot & new restaurant across the street from Magnolias and T-pumps on Lake Ave. The vibe is industrial and the crowd is older and classy. They have an amazing back room for large parties as well. Why 3 stars? Because my friends and I are not classy enough for this joint. We were told by the bartender to quiet down despite dining here on a vibrant and booming Friday night. This truly is an amazing space. Bright, clean, modern, beautiful! The ambiance can be romantic if you wanted to or family oriented as well. There were a lot of large parties celebrating birthdays, families, friends catching up, couples having dinner. There were some private rooms in the back, the restaurant feels large and very spacious. Service was friendly and very attentive. Food was great, but we did have to wait a long time in between courses. We got the cauliflower panna cotta which was the appetizer special. The panna cotta tasted fine, but I felt like the proportions of the panna cotta vs the smoked salmon vs the chips was off. Too much salmon, didn't have enough chips to eat the rest of the panna cotta. We also got the potato leek soup which was delicious!, the pear salad was a bit plain, the bison tartare was ok, the fried gnocchi that came with the dish was delicious. The agnolotti was superb and so was the tagliatelle. The complimentary bread and butter was served warm and it was delicious! In some ways Pasadena has a good and well -established food scene, think Union or Santorini, but in other ways it's entirely fake, think Slaters 5050 or Great Maple. This restaurant has a lot of buzz around it -- almost to the point where it could be a standard go-to for something unique. Nope. Same ol, same ol. We had a reservation. Table not ready. OK fine we went to the bar. We were immediately greeted by a friendly, attentive bartender and we ordered a bottle of wine. When our table was ready we paid for the wine and carried it over to our table. Our waitress offered rolls and butter, we gladly accepted. When ordering the food, things got weird. It's unclear if the entrees are served family style or individually. So, we asked and got a reply from our server that implied if we were being cheap, we could split an entree. So we ordered an appetizer and two entrees. The appetizer was oysters. Served on a bed of crushed ice with a mignonette sauce and fish eggs. They were good. The bread came with a smear of butter on its serving dish and after we took the bread off the serving dish and placed it on a bread plate, we were ready to eat. The food was delivered. I ordered risotto -- when it came in a giant serving bowl, it seemed there was enough for three people to enjoy. Same thing with the seared Yellowfin with garlic rice -- there was waaay too much. More Claim Jumper portions then nicely prepared individual dishes of well-presented fine cuisine. The strangest thing of the night was that we never saw our server after she took our order. The next time we saw anyone was when a busperson came to take our butter plate, even though we hadn't finished the bread. About that time we realized that it was 9 pm and restaurant would close at 930pm. All the activity in the place was geared toward getting customers out and a fine point on it came when our food was prematurely removed from the table. That's fine we'll stay away.
