The whole experience was just okay. I enjoyed my seafood linguine. My wife ordered a salad with salmon as the protein. It seems there was a miscommunication with the kitchen, the salmon was not ready when our meals were served. The server was untruthful when bringing out our meals, sans salmon. We heard our server communicating with kitchen staff. It was clear, because we could overhear the conversation, they started cooking the salmon after they had delivered our meals. The server came out and lied to us that they wanted to cook the salmon longer to make sure it was done. Next a manager came out to speak with us. Cringy. I'll pass on the 1901. read more

I loved having dinner here with my family. The Cajun clam chowder soup and seafood linguini were standouts. The staff were so kind and thoughtful. Want to give a five star but just can't. Waiter was so indifferent. He spilled wine on my hand when pouring and didn't even apologize. He seemed so lackadaisical all night. Mumbled replies and seemed like he'd rather not be there. This was the only disappointment. Food was actually very good. Menu was appealing. Sat outdoor on patio with concert in the nearby plaza. We decided to try this place out on the night before Valentine's day (which will be a new tradition going forward). We had the Calamari, 2 steaks, and lot of drinks! The Bread and bruschetta was provided while we made our choices. The bread was good, but the bruschetta needs a little work. A little more basil, and more flavorful tomatoes. That being said, we ate it without complaint! I ordered the ribeye while my wife ordered the tri-tip. I really enjoyed the flavor of the steak however it was definitely overcooked. This plate also included a full baked potato with other roasted veggies. Overall we enjoyed the food and the night. What earned the fifth star is the speakeasy/downstairs bar. It's not a true speakeasy in the sense of being a hidden bar, but it was a really cool setting. The drinks were Very good. It's hard to find a good old fashioned, but this place makes them correctly. Just as impressive was the tequila old fashioned. We may come back the restaurant, but we will definitely come back to the speakeasy/bar. read more

This was a great surprise, to find such a nice Italian restaurant in a beautiful setting, just south of downtown Oxnard. We had the Caprese salad (excellent), linguine with clams (very good), gnocchi (excellent, in contrast to some previous reviews), and bread pudding with white chocolate sauce and blueberry compote (best bread pudding I've ever tasted, TBH, and I order bread pudding everywhere I can find it). The downstairs bar looked fun, with a band setting up as we passed through after dinner. Our experience overall was very good to great. We'll be back, for sure. Why not 5 stars? There are a few Italian restaurants around the world where the food and setting were just perfect. Not many, and not within 100 miles of Ventura County. But I'm a tough grader. Was visiting the area over the Labor Day weekend and stumble upon this hidden gem. Very quaint setting inside a Victorian home made me feel like I was having dinner at a friend's house. Ordered an appetizer, a salad and two entrées until I saw how big the portion was by looking at the next table so I reduce my order to just one share entree. The grilled artichoke was very flavorful with just the right hint of smokes as it was served as grilled, not steam. The beet salad was alright, not enough beets since the dish was padded with mixed green salad and slices heirloom tomatoes. We shared the halibut breaded with potato crumbs and fried to golden color. It was served with a lemon flavor and capers sauce on top of spinach and served with grilled vegetables. The entree was large enough to share and tasted very good. This little known restaurant in Heritage Square was a surprise! This place was rebranded a year ago by new owners. We were welcomed by all with smiling faces and sat outside on the patio. The ambiance with a trickling fountain, lights and light music was special. Our drinks came from the Speakeasy downstairs with the Mary Pickford being our favorite. The potato gnocchi and the shrimp scampi were so flavorful with ample portions. The pork loin was Parmesan encrusted with fig reduction sauce that was to die for. The NY steak was generous and cooked perfectly with a big baked potato with all the fixings. The staff wants to know how you feel about the food and wants your experience to be over the top. For dessert, we shared a bread pudding with blueberry compote. It was warm, moist and flavorful! Try this restaurant out! We had an excellent waiter, entertaining young man. Do not remember his name. We went March 15. The bruschetta was amazing and the bread is as well! I didn't care for the Marsala. Too much chicken not enough Marsala. The risotto is off the charts. The beet salad and the Caesar are both very good!! Dessert, save room. Flourless chocolate cake was very yummy! We have been back once since. That waiter was not there. Our food took forever to get. We will be back just hope it doesn't take as long and that waiter is there! Quite the welcome surprise. I had never even heard of this place before, let alone eaten there and it really was an impressive experience. Our waiter was efficient, though a bit on the stern side, but the food was fantastic and very fairly priced for the quality received. I was with a party of 4 and everything we ordered was absolutely top-notch. My seafood linguine was easily the best I have had in the past 5 years -- if not longer -- and it not only was a generously proportioned dish but absolutely loaded with seafood. I tried some of the New York steak and that was also very good. The salads are LARGE -- easily enough for two people to split or, if chicken, shrimp or salmon is added, enough for an entree. Their tiramisu could also hold its own with any other restaurant. We'll definitely be back. read more

We absolutely loved the entire experience. Beautiful restaurant in a historic home decorated perfectly. Very friendly and attentive staff. Fantastic food from start to finish. This was all excellent: The appetizer mushroom soup is all it has been rated, The bread and bruschetta appetizer was awesome too. Entrees- The Coastal halibut was perfectly cooked and all side vegetables were delicious. I had the Seafood scampi and I tried to stop eating so I'd have some to take to the hotel, and could not stop! Finally, the Blueberry and buttery sweet sauce was unbelievable! I ate all of my half which was ample. The A girls- Alice, part owner and a baseball connoisseur was delightful and fun and so knowledgeable we talked about my Rangers' resurgence and her Dodgers greatness! Our waitress, the future nurse, Allison, I think, was so so good and personable! The exit was gorgeous with other historic homes around a beautiful courtyard! We were there on Saturday night. I ordered the shrimp scampi on capellini (the way it's offered). It was very bland. The pasta was completely over cooked, the food had no acidity balance of flavor in the white wine sauce. If a restaurant serves Angel hair pasta, it has to be watched carefully... or serve it on linguini. The sauce should be served with lemon if the flavors aren't quite up to par. I would have notified my server, but he didn't come back until I had eaten my shrimp. He offered a box, because he noticed I didn't eat much of the pasta, but didn't ask if there was anything wrong. It was edible, but not enjoyable. I didn't want to ruin in my dining partner's meal by complaining... but for $25 for a pasta dish, I expected more. This might be a fun place to drink, but since I don't, I'll probably not be back. read more
