I loved having dinner here with my family. The Cajun clam chowder soup and seafood linguini were standouts. The staff were so kind and thoughtful. And the ambience was very charming and cozy with soft lighting and cheery jazz music. It was a wonderful experience. I will be visiting here again. read more

Want to give a five star but just can't. Waiter was so indifferent. He spilled wine on my hand when pouring and didn't even apologize. He seemed so lackadaisical all night. Mumbled replies and seemed like he'd rather not be there. This was the only disappointment. Food was actually very good. Menu was appealing. Sat outdoor on patio with concert in the nearby plaza. The loud music dampened a quiet dinner which I didn't expect. Wish they had a Happy Hour. read more

Just dined at The 1901 tonight with friends. I had never been there before but I have to say the food was very good, and the service was great. Our server Vickie was very very good and attentive. Thank you , she helped to make my sisters bday very special. I would highly recommend this place. read more

wonderful restaurant. I ordered the ahi salad and tomato basil soup. both were delicious. service was also top notch. thank you Vicky.

We decided to try this place out on the night before Valentine's day (which will be a new tradition going forward). We had the Calamari, 2 steaks, and lot of drinks! The Bread and bruschetta was provided while we made our choices. The bread was good, but the bruschetta needs a little work. A little more basil, and more flavorful tomatoes. That being said, we ate it without complaint! I ordered the ribeye while my wife ordered the tri-tip. I really enjoyed the flavor of the steak however it was definitely overcooked. This plate also included a full baked potato with other roasted veggies. Overall we enjoyed the food and the night. What earned the fifth star is the speakeasy/downstairs bar. It's not a true speakeasy in the sense of being a hidden bar, but it was a really cool setting. The drinks were Very good. It's hard to find a good old fashioned, but this place makes them correctly. Just as impressive was the tequila old fashioned. We may come back the restaurant, but we will definitely come back to the speakeasy/bar. read more

Great food great+ atmosphere especially at the bar, we prefer eating downstairs with the rich mahogany, prices are super fair.

This was a great surprise, to find such a nice Italian restaurant in a beautiful setting, just south of downtown Oxnard. We had the Caprese salad (excellent), linguine with clams (very good), gnocchi (excellent, in contrast to some previous reviews), and bread pudding with white chocolate sauce and blueberry compote (best bread pudding I've ever tasted, TBH, and I order bread pudding everywhere I can find it). The downstairs bar looked fun, with a band setting up as we passed through after dinner. Our experience overall was very good to great. We'll be back, for sure. Why not 5 stars? There are a few Italian restaurants around the world where the food and setting were just perfect. Not many, and not within 100 miles of Ventura County. But I'm a tough grader. I still highly recommend The 1901. read more

Romantic heated outdoor dining with talented chef, relaxed pacing of courses with salads , pastas and lamb chops , steak and seafood choices . Samantha makes it fun and wine selections appreciated read more

Was visiting the area over the Labor Day weekend and stumble upon this hidden gem. Very quaint setting inside a Victorian home made me feel like I was having dinner at a friend's house. Ordered an appetizer, a salad and two entrées until I saw how big the portion was by looking at the next table so I reduce my order to just one share entree. The grilled artichoke was very flavorful with just the right hint of smokes as it was served as grilled, not steam. The beet salad was alright, not enough beets since the dish was padded with mixed green salad and slices heirloom tomatoes. We shared the halibut breaded with potato crumbs and fried to golden color. It was served with a lemon flavor and capers sauce on top of spinach and served with grilled vegetables. The entree was large enough to share and tasted very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you ever in the area. read more

While the staff was friendly the service was a nightmare and the food just so-so. Our food was cold and what was written on the menu does not reflect what you get. Avoid. read more

This place was recommended by a friend and it was spot on. Exceptional food, service and ambiance. Visited twice in one week and was not disappointed. The sea bass and rack of lamb was absolutely AMAZING!!! The BEST tiramisu which was homemade. read more

Seems like a nice place, but I wasn't expecting the band to be so loud and such limited seating. It is a very cozy location if that's what you want. read more

This little known restaurant in Heritage Square was a surprise! This place was rebranded a year ago by new owners. We were welcomed by all with smiling faces and sat outside on the patio. The ambiance with a trickling fountain, lights and light music was special. Our drinks came from the Speakeasy downstairs with the Mary Pickford being our favorite. The potato gnocchi and the shrimp scampi were so flavorful with ample portions. The pork loin was Parmesan encrusted with fig reduction sauce that was to die for. The NY steak was generous and cooked perfectly with a big baked potato with all the fixings. The staff wants to know how you feel about the food and wants your experience to be over the top. For dessert, we shared a bread pudding with blueberry compote. It was warm, moist and flavorful! Try this restaurant out! It's a hidden gem and have a drink in the speakeasy while you are at it! read more

A mediocre Italian restaurant, not bad food but nothing special. Service quite good and it's a sweet place

It is wonderful and so is dolce vita upstairs.. It's not price comfortable for that neighborhood, but it is a good addition for Oxnard Downtown .. I love stepping back into history, and this Heritage Square is a great place to visit and to take visitors.. You won't be disappointed And I am sure you will be a return, patron as I am.. I am hoping that they are successful in this enterprise in the Heritage Square, because it deserves to be successful ... read more

Love the setting. Old victorian house. Food and drinks were good. Music on first floor. Not to our liking. Will try again for dinner and maybe entertainment. read more

Horrible service Everyone's dinner arrived and it wasn't till they were almost done eating before the waitress came back and realized I didn't get my mine yet. I took it to go and yes it was compensated but, it was still sub par to so the very least I recommend the happy hour bar and bar food only. Not the restaurant upstairs read more

We had an excellent waiter, entertaining young man. Do not remember his name. We went March 15. The bruschetta was amazing and the bread is as well! I didn't care for the Marsala. Too much chicken not enough Marsala. The risotto is off the charts. The beet salad and the Caesar are both very good!! Dessert, save room. Flourless chocolate cake was very yummy! We have been back once since. That waiter was not there. Our food took forever to get. We will be back just hope it doesn't take as long and that waiter is there! What's his name so we can ask for him please? read more

The food was delicious! Good portions. The service was great! Ambiance was beautiful and cozy in an old victoria style home. Our group of 7 so enjoyed ourselves. Our server Samatha attended to us so effectively along with other servers. So nice to have the manager to come out and great our table. read more

Service was good . Communication reserving the table for 7 was great. The place is pretty cool as far as the setting goes, I think the table was split on the food as far as being ok and really liked it. I thought the same about the drinks! Speak Easy was packed . read more

The best mixologist without a doubt , the attention to detail is superb , getting there early enough to get some of the food upstairs is also a must , the couches near the active fireplace just wraps it all together very nicely , great chill vibes during the week if you prefer a more intimate setting read more

Love the food and atmosphere. Not many places like this in Oxnard. We always look forward to a delightful evening.

Everything was outstanding from the moment we entered through the end of our delicious dinner. The freshly made bread was warm and wonderful. Hostess and our waitress Karena couldn't have been better!! Service was perfect. Couldn't recommend more!! read more

Quite the welcome surprise. I had never even heard of this place before, let alone eaten there and it really was an impressive experience. Our waiter was efficient, though a bit on the stern side, but the food was fantastic and very fairly priced for the quality received. I was with a party of 4 and everything we ordered was absolutely top-notch. My seafood linguine was easily the best I have had in the past 5 years -- if not longer -- and it not only was a generously proportioned dish but absolutely loaded with seafood. I tried some of the New York steak and that was also very good. The salads are LARGE -- easily enough for two people to split or, if chicken, shrimp or salmon is added, enough for an entree. Their tiramisu could also hold its own with any other restaurant. We'll definitely be back. read more

Fantastic food, delightful server, (Samuel) and wonderful ambiance! Chef Steven Sokol creates a revelation with every dish, each more stunning than the next. The flavors are nuanced and diverse with each dish...I can't count he number of times I took a bite and rolled my eyes backward in gustatorial bliss! Seriously, it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten, and I have traveled the world eating at a myriad of fine restaurants!! Who knew I would find this gem in my own backyard, figuratively speaking! So worth the hour drive! I will return here over and over until I have eaten my way through the menu! Highest recommendation!!! read more

Shout out to 1901 and also La Dolce Vita restaurant. Wow! Incredible service, food and drinks. A must visit. Hidden gems

Went to here not so long ago after some family members took me, and I was surprised with the service and with a place like this still around in downtown Oxnard ! Love it read more

We absolutely loved the entire experience. Beautiful restaurant in a historic home decorated perfectly. Very friendly and attentive staff. Fantastic food from start to finish. This was all excellent: The appetizer mushroom soup is all it has been rated, The bread and bruschetta appetizer was awesome too. Entrees- The Coastal halibut was perfectly cooked and all side vegetables were delicious. I had the Seafood scampi and I tried to stop eating so I'd have some to take to the hotel, and could not stop! Finally, the Blueberry and buttery sweet sauce was unbelievable! I ate all of my half which was ample. The A girls- Alice, part owner and a baseball connoisseur was delightful and fun and so knowledgeable we talked about my Rangers' resurgence and her Dodgers greatness! Our waitress, the future nurse, Allison, I think, was so so good and personable! The exit was gorgeous with other historic homes around a beautiful courtyard! I wish we could live here instead of Lewisville, Tx. For the beauty and climate but not the prices. So so high! We loved it all! Go there, we did! read more

We were there on Saturday night. I ordered the shrimp scampi on capellini (the way it's offered). It was very bland. The pasta was completely over cooked, the food had no acidity balance of flavor in the white wine sauce. If a restaurant serves Angel hair pasta, it has to be watched carefully... or serve it on linguini. The sauce should be served with lemon if the flavors aren't quite up to par. I would have notified my server, but he didn't come back until I had eaten my shrimp. He offered a box, because he noticed I didn't eat much of the pasta, but didn't ask if there was anything wrong. It was edible, but not enjoyable. I didn't want to ruin in my dining partner's meal by complaining... but for $25 for a pasta dish, I expected more. This might be a fun place to drink, but since I don't, I'll probably not be back. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Great food and atmosphere. They were extremely friendly. It also has a nice speakeasy.

Food is great and honestly underpriced compared to other restaurants around. Fun place to eat and great drinks. Service is always nice

What a find! Great cocktails in the speakeasy, then upstairs for de-lish dinner. Portions are HUGE! Would recommend sharing!
