The place is near Trevi Fountain and there are bunch of other Italian restaurants near Trevi but it seems this place is packed and the other restaurants nearby are not, so it is better than what it is around the Trevi. The dining area is small and cramped and the sits are very tight and close to each other. The dining area also does not have AC but it has a a ceiling fans. The owner is at restaurant and he is very nice, personable and chatted with us for a while. The food: I had the fillet steak. The steak was OK. I thought that the sauce on it was too heavy and I just felt that it overpowered the meat. The rosemary potato ( the signature side) in Rome did not taste as good as other places that I had in Rome. All and all, this place is perhaps one of the most popular restaurants near Trevi fountain but it was the least favorite of other two places that I dined in Rome so far; my Sunday meal at Trattoria Il Tettarello and Monday lunch at Mamma Angela's Trattoria were far superior in taste. The price: Interestingly the food in Rome is cheaper than LA, Vegas or NY but the ingredients and quality is much higher. This place was by far one of my favorites when I was in Italy. The food amazing!!! The service a bit slow but that's just their General way of not risking anything. My favorite dish was the carbonara. It's a must try and their wines. Very good vibe but busy place. I bought their cook book... yes I love to cook. I had yelped this a while before I made it to Rome and made it a point to go, since it's near the hotel. Did a few tourist things and head over. It was in the middle of the day, so it wasn't super busy. We got a table in 5 mins. The restaurant was tiny at the front with a bar and I think they have a bigger room in the back. I find all the staff friendly and well attentive. Our waiter made a mistake on my order, so I had to wait a little longer for my Truffle Porcini Pasta. My friend ordered the risotto, so she started her dish. I took a bite and it was delish! The presentation could be a little better, so sometimes the taste is enough. I finally got my pasta and I was drooling already. The truffle smelled soooooo good! Took my first bite and I was sold. It was so good, I wanted more enough though I was stuffed. We decided to try their tiramisu and cafe lattes. Since they made a mistake on my order, he gave us the dessert on the house. Great customer service! Tiramisu was good, but it wasn't proportion right...IMO. It was presented in a martini glass, so the layering was off. I ate mostly cream and no lady finger, but nonetheless it was still good. Almost went back for a second time, but walking on foot and raining, we were diverted to another restaurant that was closer. Definitely a must try when in Rome. An Italian restaurant in Rome that feels like an Italian restaurant in the United States. Hope that makes sense for ya! There are pictures of celebrities all over the walls and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Can't go wrong with good 'ole Frank. Incredible food. The gnocchi was hands down the best I've ever had. The grilled chicken salad was also amazing, coming with a hefty amount of chicken. The only reason this isn't five stars is the service, as it was a little slow and we only saw our waiter once. I recognize that the restaurants operate a little different in Rome, but the service was a little slower than other restaurants we attended. This was probably a tourist trap but the location was very convenient (near Trevi Fountain) and we were super hungry. Arrived around 7:30pm on a Tuesday night and had about 40mins wait. The place was pretty small so there was barely any room between tables, which was a bit awkward. When we were sat down, we had to wait longer than expected for our waiter to tend our table. We ordered fettuccine al tartufo nero e funghi porcini (fettuccine with black truffle sauce and porcini mushrooms), filet mignon, and Amatriciana pasta. The black truffle fettuccine was pretty good but it was a taste that I had to get used to since I don't consume black truffle a lot, but it was super creamy! The Amatriciana pasta was okay. It's a classic but we thought it was a bit too much sauce. The filet mignon was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Honestly the best steak I've eaten so far. It was cooked perfectly; crunchy on the outside and super tender on the inside. The green pepper sauce was to die for. My fiance and I couldn't get enough of the sauce, we scraped every drop of it with the oven-roasted rosemary potatoes. Overall, we had a pretty good experience at That's Amore and went out with a happy stomach. I would definitely come back for the filet mignon if I ever find myself in Rome again. read more

My husband opted for Roman specialty - carbonara while I ordered with fettuccine in black truffle oil and porcini mushroom. Carbonara - perhaps Americans had always been heavy handed on creams. That's Amore's was much egg-ier. Almost as if they threw in scrambled eggs to the pasta. Also their bacon flavor was extremely overpowering. Not the delicious "I want bacon on everything" - more like a pungent porky "ew what is that?" profile. Even if the authentic Roman version was supposed to be made that way, it was way oversalted and overcooked for our taste. Fettuccine in black truffle oil and porcini muchroom - the truffle flavor was prominent and the pasta was cooked well. But the seasoning aka straight salt was not very appetising. I was expecting a much more in depth flavor to be carried by this dish. Overall - we only had time for one authentic meal in the city and unfortunately we wasted it in That's Amore. read more

Pretty good spot in Rome with some authentic Roman pastas and pizzas. Ambiance is cool but this place is so tiny, we could barely fit 2 people at our table. The wait was very long due to the small inside and the fact they allow online reservations which you would only know about if you did the research in advance. After waiting about 35 min, we got a tiny table for two in the corner and ordered the wine and bread. Wine was very good but bread was just okay. I ordered the Gnocchi and margarita pizza. Both were good given my already high expectations, but must say this place didn't blow me away. The Gnocchi (around 12 euros) was better than the pizza (around 13 euros) which I thought was good but maybe not worth the price at the end. Overall, this place is worth the wait and the money but I wouldn't place it in the bargain category. I would however return if back in Rome. Overall Value: 7/10 You get what you pay for in this Roman hot spot. Food: 8/10 nothing seems to be bad here. Drink menu: 9/10 extensive and reasonable for Rome. We requested a change, since it's so small and uncomfortable, but the boss (or someone who's responsible for guiding) refused, saying that those were for 4; but they we're obviously for 2! During the meal, for every request we have, like pepper, check, etc, we need to ask for more than twice, since the first request was always ignored. Food was also below average. I had the pizza & my daughter had the gnocchi. The gnocchi was good, the pizza was ok. I have this huge pizza, overhanging the edge of the plate, & only a knife & fork. The Italian folks before us were given a pizza cutter, as were the Italians that followed them. After struggling for a bit, I gave up. It wasn't hot enough to start anyway. Our waiter came & took our plates & asked if we wanted anything else. We said " no " & sat & waited. The waiter walked by, stood at the bar ... everything but bring us the bill. I ate here twice and my first meal was solid but the second was just average. House wine is reasonable and the portion was generous. My standouts were the Mozzarella di bufala alla caprese, the carbonara - pasta with tomato sauce, bacon, pecorino cheese, pork cheek, egg, sauce and pecorino cheese. I also recommend the Spaghetti ai frutti di mare - sauté of fresh mussels, clams, shrimp and squid tossed with spaghetti and olive oil and garlic. I thought the Sophia salad and seafood pasta were just average. Prices here are fair compared to some of the other establishments in the area. As to the service the first dinner was above average although the second experience was a disappointment due to the waiter's shift ended and he just departed and waived goodbye. In addition there was confusion with the password to access wifi which was frustrating. The manager ended up giving me the correct password. Cons here were there is no Al fresco dinning offered and inside the tables are very near to each other and can be claustrophobic. read more

I love everything about this place! Food, staff, ambience. I did a ton of restaurant research before deciding on coming here. Glad I did too, because I had a GREAT dining experience. We came for dinner with no reservations. Although it was crowded, they seated us immediately in one of the back rooms near the kitchen. We also had another waiter constantly stopping by to converse with us and check up on our meals. * SPAGHETTI AL FRUTTI DI MARE - simple but delish! The seafood flavors were infused with the spaghetti in the cooking process, so the noodles had that delicious sweet shrimp flavor. Generous serving of seafood - mussels, prawns, clams, squid. * TAGLIOLINI ALLA SPIGOLA - there wasn't as much sea bass as I would've liked, but what was there, was moist and flaky - perfectly cooked! Cherry tomatoes were sweet and abundant, and was nicely contrasted with salty olives. Beware- the olives are suuuper salty. The noodles tasted oh-so freshly made, but they reminded me of ramen noodles. *TIRAMISU - Not the typical tiramisu you'd find in the U.S. This was more of a whipped mousse. Very light and airy. Although it would've been just another good dinner, the staff is what makes this restaurant stand out. With all the conversing throughout our dinner, we felt very welcomed, like we were eating at some family's home. They made us feel so comfortable and special, as if we were the only ones in the restaurant and were being catered upon. We even had nicknames by the staff.. "Califoooorniaaa" (with Italian accent) since that's where we were from. This place is clearly trolling for tourists. I can't imagine any self-respecting Italian eating here. If That's Amore were located in the U.S., it'd be a fine Italian restaurant. Rat Pack music plays on the speakers. Black and white photos of 1950s and 60s (American) celebrities cover the walls. But the food was so-so. I had a diavola (spicy salami) pizza, and the quality wasn't remotely near the kind of food I tasted elsewhere. Service was downright worthless. We ran out of water and waited around for ten minutes. Eventually our server came over and we asked for more. It never came. I reached into my bag and pulled out some water from our hotel room and poured it into my glass. But if you really feel like being ignored for an evening in an EPCOT Italy, maybe this is the restaurant for you. read more

We thought this place was delicious & worth our 30 minute wait, although I will warn you their interior/back room can be warm (at least when we were there) & it's close to the kitchen (where waitstaff is running food to the other tables). Due to COVID, we only had one day for Rome, so we were rushing through and trying to get to all the major sites for pics before we left. As we were on our way to the Trevi Fountain, I saw this place on the map and remembered that it was a restaurant that my PT recommended to me (he had come in December). We decided to just go ahead and do it! I had a really good carbonara there, while hubs finally got his gnocchi (which was phenomenal). Definitely a couple of the best pasta dishes that we had in Italy. Not the cheapest, especially for what you get, but what do you expect for Rome...especially from a restaurant down the street from a major attraction. So glad we decided to stop by! read more

I read raving reviews from so many Americans on this place so we had to check it out after we visited the trevi fountain. It was insanely crowded when we walked up, several people waiting outside and only 1 empty table inside that was marked as reserved. I waited about 10 minutes before the owner finally greeted me at the door. I requested a table for 2 and he said unless I had a reservation I wasn't going to get in. I spotted 2 seats at the back bar and asked if we could sit there. He told me I was very clever and led me back. We started with the bruschetta which was some of the best I had in Italy. I liked how they topped it with mozzarella and drizzled pesto. For our entrees we got the pesto fettuccine and classic carbonara. I was dying to try some carbonara while in Rome. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a slight letdown. It wasn't as flavorful as I expected and I would have liked more pancetta. My husband got the pesto fettuccine which was delicious. I loved the pine nuts sprinkled on top. We ended up switching dishes because I liked his so much better. The service wasn't great and it was pretty crowded. The food was decent but I'm sure you can get pasta of this same caliber at neighboring restaurants. Not sure it would be worth the wait for a table. read more
