THAIM FOR LUNCH | Pad Thai
Michelle B.

This is a new Thai place out in Pasadena I dropped by in one weekday with a friend for lunch. They do have lunch specials but price wise they didn't especially feel like specials. Service is fast and the interior of the restaurant is very nicely decorated. There's exclusively indoor seating but this place is super popular so you might have to wait during busy hours. Pad Thai w/ Tofu 3/5, while the pad thai itself was fine, the tofu came out fried and hard, it was a bit unexpected for me and I ended up not eating those pieces which was disappointing

Morning glory

The food here was absolutely delicious! We ordered many different things: the grilled isan sausage, the morning glory, the papaya salad, the pad thai with fried tofu, their kor moo yang and a side of sticky rice. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! I feel like Thaim has their own unique flavor, emphasizing the freshness by pairing fresh greens with the majority of their dishes. The freshness really enhances the flavor of each dish. My favorites were the kor moo yang and the pad Thai with fried tofu. The kor moo yang was so tender you can cut it in half with a fork. The fried tofu in the pad Thai was amazing and so light and crispy. I would skip on the mango sticky rice slushy. I couldn't really taste the mango sticky rice but it was refreshing nevertheless. Service was excellent! Our server kept checking on us and the dishes came out quickly! The restaurant is a bit small so it can get packed quickly but its interior is decorated so nicely and has a nice aesthetic! As for parking, we parked in the paid parking lot right next to the restaurant. Would highly recommend!

Oh no!! I'm so sad. I don't know what the heck happened, but my husband and I came back to Thaim today for the first time since our last visit. The last time we were here it was amazing, but today's visit was REALLY bad. The service was still very kind and attentive, but unfortunately, the food was awful. We ordered the pad see ew again since it was our favorite and then tried the midnight train fried rice. The pad see ew tasted nothing like the first time we had it or like any pad see ew we've had before. It was drowning in sauce that tasted like a highly artificial store bought teriyaki sauce. The fried tofu that was previously airy and delicious was also dense and oily and soggy. The oil tasted old as well. The midnight train fried rice was completely soggy. We have never had fried rice like this ever before. It was complete mush. The texture was so off-putting. We left so very confused because it was drastically different than our first experience. We've recommended Thaim to so many friends and family, but the food today was genuinely bad. If my husband and I had not come in to the restaurant starving, I'm not sure we actually would have eaten the meal. This is a huge bummer. If this is how the food was the first time, we never would have come back. I hope they address and fix whatever caused this drastic of a change.

Goong Ob Woonsen Sam-Yan

A new Thai spot in Pasadena! This place is a little more in the fancy, night out category so expect slightly smaller portions and higher prices. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday night right before the dinner rush! By 7, the line was LONG, so recommend arriving earlier and making a reservation! Even thought it was slightly pricy, everything tasted so good! We ordered the chicken wontons, pad see ew with grilled chicken and the Goong Ob Woonsen Sam-Yan. All were phenomenal! We were bummed they were sold out of the exploding fish balls, so we can opted for the chicken wonton. The pad see ew had a lot of "wok hay" and the grilled chicken thigh was done to perfection. It's on the sweeter side! The woonsen is a simple vermicelli dish with shrimp and mushrooms that was also delicious (a dish that's a less standard Thai ), just a smidge on the smaller side. The green spicy sauce was a great addition. We also really enjoyed the mango sticky rice slushy, had such a nice rice aftertaste! Also on the sweeter side but pairs well with the food! Shoutout to the servers for excellent service to despite how busy it was. He was running around bringing food, filling waters and checking on all the tables!

What I Ordered: Street Side Mango Salad ($18) Pad See Ew with Pork Jowl ($24) Midnight Train Fried Rice ($23) Chocolate Matcha Lava ($15) Food: The Street-side Mango Salad was light, refreshing, and packed with texture. I loved the crunch from the peanuts and the sweet-tangy dressing that tied everything together. The Pad See Ew noodles were soft and chewy with a slightly caramelized soy flavor, and the Chinese broccoli added just enough freshness to balance the dish. I absolutely loved the pork jowl, tender and soft while adding an added layer of flavor to the dish. The Midnight Train Fried Rice had a great smoky wok flavor, and the Thai sweet pork sausage added a subtle sweetness that made it stand out from other fried rice dishes I've had. For dessert, we shared the Chocolate Matcha Lava. The warm molten chocolate paired surprisingly well with the earthy matcha center, and the fresh strawberries helped keep the dessert from feeling too rich. I was surprised at how the passionfruit ice cream blended well together with the flavors of matcha and chocolate. It was one of those combinations that shouldn't work but did work. Staff: All of the staff members were friendly! They were very knowledgeable about each of the menu items. I loved that they took the time to explain some of the menu items and where they got each idea from. Ambiance: Indoor seating only. Parking consists of street parking and parking garages around downtown Pasadena. You do have to pay for parking most of the time!

Thai Basil lunch special

Loud and crowded seating, you'll most likely be very close to someone else. The bar seats are very hard. Lunch specials prices are decent $17 for main, side, soup. Plus $3 Thai tea. Thai ice tea is heavy tea/bitter flavor and thick, looks like it does come from a mix they pour from a large pre-made container so taste will be inconsistent. Thai Basil with veggies and mushrooms - flavor was good but the veggies were hard and undercooked, so I wouldn't recommend it. Also mild was pretty spicy

Pork pad kra pow

Had a great weekday evening at Thaim with a friend- the space was airy, bright, colorful, and vibrant. Note that this spot is in Old Town Pasadena, so you can find street parking or go for one of the lots. We ordered the pork pad kra pow and the tofu pad see ew which were both wonderfully balanced and flavorful. The staff were also friendly and attentive. I know the spot is in Old Town Pasadena, and the restaurant has a different focus than a typical Thai spot (ie fun drinks and a different market audience) so prices are higher than a typical Thai restaurant. However, the portions could've been a bit more generous, since each entree essentially starts around $19. I also noted that you have to pay upwards of $2 for certain meats (not even specialty ones like seafood or pork belly) which I was surprised by. Nonetheless, this is a great spot and I'd return. Next time I'll try one of the fun drinks.

THAIM FOR LUNCH | Pad See Ew

Nice store front Funky design Food is average price ($19 for pad see ew) Service was exceptional Pad see ew used too much fish sauce. My protein was chicken.

I visited Thaim in Pasadena for my birthday lunch on a Thursday. The restaurant is bright, clean, and has a cute, welcoming atmosphere. I especially loved the Thai alphabet displayed as part of the décor--it was such a thoughtful touch that made the space feel even more authentic and inviting. They also offer a great lunch special, have a nice wine list, and even provide counter seating for solo diners, which I always appreciate. It was busy during the lunch rush, and you could tell our server was doing her best, but service was unfortunately a bit slow. We also ordered a dish that was supposed to come with an egg, but it was missing. We didn't realize it until we got home, so it didn't seem worth going back over a $2 item. Still, it was a small oversight that reflected the overall service experience that day. The menu is on the smaller side, but the food was enjoyable, and I'd still recommend giving it a try if you're in the Pasadena area. They're still fairly new, so I'd give them some grace as they work through the growing pains.

Me, my hubby and our friends were walking around OLD TOWN PASADENA one night when we stumbled across THAIM. We wanted to try their food so badly because we ALL love THAI STREET FOOD but, at that time they were not open yet so today my hubby was in the area and decided to ORDER for PICK UP... FISH BALLS: 10/10 Delicious!!! If you are a fish ball or fish cake fan you will love this APPETIZER!!! The fish balls are so nice and bouncy!!! The green chile sauce that comes with it is so HEAVENLY!!! I wish I could buy a whole JAR of the sauce!!!! KRAPOW BOWL (ground pork): 9/10 The Krapow flavor was delicious!!! We also added a Thai style fried egg. It came with pickled cauliflowers and fish sauce. My husband doesn't like string beans and they were able to customize it for him... PAD THAI (FRIED TOFU): 7/10 I love the fried tofu very much! They are very generous with the portion. The only thing I would recommend is to separate the fried tofu and leave the box open so it will not get soggy sitting on top of the noodles. I have to be honest and say I could not taste the PAD THAI sauce in the noodles. There was no flavor in the noodles. I don't mean to hurt the chef's feelings and I apologize if I did. I hope my honest comments will help them improve this dish because we LOVE PAD THAI... SERVICE: 10/10 Excellent and very friendly service! The owner is very kind, humble and welcoming!!! AMBIANCE: 10/10 Very bright, modern and vibrant restaurant. I can see it clearly from a mile away!! Let's show our support for this delicious THAI RESTAURANT with a very PASSIONATE and CARING owner and hardworking staff... I wish them a lot of SUCCESS and I can't wait to come back to try more dishes!!!! SAWADEE CA THAIM!!!!!!

More like a 3.5. Very cute Thai place in Old Town Pasadena. Literally right outside one of the better parking structures so location is perfect. The decorations inside were perfect. Tables are a tad cramped together but I think thats the vibe. It was a little bit cold while we were there but its been raging hot outside so probably a plus for most people. Now onto the food. Their menu is pretty simple. We ordered the ground pork basil bowl for $19 + $2 for riceberry brown rice and Goong ob woonsen sam aka glass noodles slowcooked in a pot with ginger, garlic, shrimp for $26--we ordered the wrong item because we thought we were ordering whatever our neighbor had...but nope. Then we each ordered a smoothie: thai tea and mango sticky rice for $10 each. The smoothies were decent~tasted like they should. The goong ob woonsen was quite salty. We weren't sure if it was the green sauce they paired ours with so we tried it without and it was still a bit too much. The basil bowl was tasty with an egg added and a spicy kick with a level 1 spice but unfortunately, the flavor was a bit too sweet for my liking. I'm typically not big on my "salty foods" being sweet. The fish balls were the star of the show though-highly recommend them to snack on. Price point is a bit high but it is pasadena so I get it. I 'd say its still a great place to catch up with a small group of friends or even on a date~

Came here for lunch and really enjoyed our meal. We ordered off their lunch specials menu; I got the chicken pad thai and shared the fruit salad and wok-fired chinese brocolli. The pad thai was done well and the fruit salad was sweet, tangy, and bursting with flavor. The decor was really cute. Portion sizes were also very generous. Service was good. The restaurant is situated off Union (and the parking there is pricey) so we parked at the DeLacey structure and walked a couple blocks over. Would recommend!

Been loving this place. Came for lunch for the first time with my sister. The mango sticky rice slushy is phenomenal, as well as the pad Thai. love the pink accents to decor and the care that goes into each dish! The service is good, but they do get busy and it was hard to get their attention towards the end. Happy to support this new business, and hope they are here for years to come.

Not a problem, the lunch menu was equally enticing. A 2-course offering for $25. I started with the Thai Prawn Ceviche. This course was wonderfully balanced, not too acidic, also a nice touch of sweetness and plump flavorful prawns. For the main, my selection was the Beef Truffle Wok-Seared Noodles. I was delighted that they were round noodles and they arrived at my table stirred in a dark sauce with sliced beef pieces on top. A small porcelain decanter was also supplied, containing the truffle oil. I poured it over my noodles. The beef was tender, moist and could be cut with the usual provided table knife. The whole dish was a winner, from start to finish. Service here, as expected, was well executed. Need to be aware of the parking though. There is a public garage around the corner that is advertised for this establishment and a few others. Problem is, that Star Leaf validates only for 1-hour, while their neighbors do so, for 2-hours. I addressed this issue with the manager at my last visit and this time too. The answer I got was not convincing to suggest that they care, or will do something about it, anytime soon. Oh well.

After we requested an appetizer from the hostess, a man came over with water but didn't introduce himself. I had to ask whether he was our waiter, and he said yes. After we ordered our entrées, other staff handled nearly everything: another young man refilled our water, a woman cleared our dishes, and the hostess checked on our meal. Amador's next check-in came at the end, when he asked whether we wanted the check. The hostess was attentive, and we would have preferred to direct our tip to her. Instead, our bill included a mandatory 20% gratuity, with tax applied to that charge--bringing its effective cost to approximately 22% of the food and beverage total. In my view, a mandatory charge is a service fee, regardless of whether it's labeled a "gratuity." Being required to pay it despite such inattentive service left a poor impression. One star for the service and mandatory charge.
