I'm happy to report that I was able to catch them while they were open (thank you for updating the hours!) and had a fantastic time! The ambiance was amazing, their interior is cute and trendy. The food was delicious! We split one order of wings and the Bangkok Basil Bowl with ground pork. I got their Thai Tea Slushy and my husband got a few refills of one of their beers. Everything was perfect and the service was amazing, friendly and very attentive! My husband prefers his beer glass cold and thats exactly how they served it for him & he was so impressed as restaurants have rarely serviced him that automatically. Walked by this place a few times and went in to try the lunch special but it was not that good. I got the pad kra pao and with no egg. It arrived and they still put egg. Egg didn't look like how a Thai fried egg should look like either. I ordered spicy and it was not spicy. I like Thai restaurants that warn you that you can't return cause it's too spicy. Tried this place last month I had high expectations with this place considering the reviews. Unfortunately, the food here was just okay. I ordered crying tiger ($48) and after trying it I was very disappointed. The beef was tough, dry, and bitter because it was very burnt. In my opinion, it was not worth $48. The Basil Bowl was a little too salty but not that bad. However, the portion was kinda small and they give more rice than pork. The pad thai tastes delicious and authentic. We got the Pad Thai with chicken, old Bangkok morning glory, gai yang and the matcha lava cake. It was all so tasty, I don't think I could pick a favorite. The inside was really cute and instagram-able, but with good food. The servers were very friendly and answered all our questions about the menu. First off I want to start off this review by saying this isn't a negative on the food quality. I do think everything but their Thai tea seems to be pretty good and what I've heard from family members is that their menu items are pretty great. I've been to this place two or three times now and I just find it unacceptable how unaware of food allergies they are. I'm not one of those people who likes to make my gluten allergy everybody's business but Thai food is one of those cuisines that is relatively safe. There are quite a few options for me when I go to pretty much any Thai restaurant. I can almost always have pad Thai because it doesn't use soy sauce. I can almost have all Thai curries. I can have Thai beef salad and almost 90% to 95% of the Thai restaurants I go to are very willing to adjust the food to make it gluten-free but this restaurant in particular is extremely unaware of gluten allergies. I went two to three times now and every single time I've asked for the pad Thai gluten-free, they've said, "Okay yes, we can make it vegan." That makes no sense to me. Gluten and vegan are not the same thing. I went this last Sunday because I wanted to bring my family to a new local Thai spot in Pasadena. I pulled the owner aside and I said, "Hey I have a gluten allergy. I was just wondering: what on this menu could I have? Are there any things that are gluten-free or is there anything that you can make gluten-free besides the pad Thai?" He looked me straight in the face and said, "No we can't make anything gluten-free," when I know for a fact that the curries are gluten-free. I know for a fact that the mango salad is gluten-free. It's just really disheartening that they're not going to do any kind of research or put in any kind of effort to ask questions about what gluten is or how they can accommodate better. It just seems like a very lazy thing to do, especially in a place like Pasadena in Los Angeles County, when dietary preferences are so important. I would just really like them to maybe take a food allergy course to really help them understand what's really going on here. read more

Thaim is inventive and authentic! This restaurant pulls out all the stops to deliver a delicious meal and a pleasant dining experience. Every meal was delicious and made with intention! The server also was incredible and not only did a thorough job explaining meal items but handled a busy restaurant on what seemed like his own! The meals had some kick to them, yet they were still so enjoyable. Bringing kids to a restaurant can be hit or miss but we were grateful they had yummy food and yet also enjoyed comfortable seating and a fun experience. Can't wait to come back! read more

Most of the food tasted like leftovers- lukewarm, probably cooked earlier in the day and tossed together before serving. Pad Thai was so overly syrupy sweet it was almost inedible. Finally got to try this viral Thai spot. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. I got their black pink drink, mango sticky rice slushy, corn salad, short rib salad, egg tofu pad Thai, and ground pork basil bowl to try. The mango sticky rice slushy was topped with a not too sweet light coconut foam and shavings. The drinks tasted pretty similar and were both bright, lemonadey, and refreshing. Surprisingly tho the black pink one tasted a bit more mangoy. The corn salad had a salted egg, juicy sweet cherry tomatoes and corn with some green beans, nutty crunchy peanuts, and was very garlicy with some fish saucy notes. The short rib salad came with some tender yummy 24 hour sous vide short rib that even had a nice crisp sear, fresh leafy greens, and crunchy juicy cucumbers cherry tomatoes and onions. It was tangy a bit spicy and sweet. The egg tofu pad Thai had some jiggly silky fried egg tofus, crunchy chicharron, fresh bean sprouts, and some perfectly springy sweet lightly tangy and savory pad Thai noodles. I got the ground pork basil bowl with brown rice and it was super flavorful, savory, comforting and just pure deliciousity. It can get a bit pricey but Vibes are super aesthetic and cute, food is solid, and service and people here are so nice. So Overall this place is still pretty good. Ordered the pad Thai with Tofu, and it was sweeter than most. I couldn't eat it and neither could my mom. Second, egg rolls were BOGO so we ended up with 8 total. The egg rolls were similar to the ones Panda Express serves, nothing special. Out of 8, 4 were had. Popped in on the right day!!! They just released a few new dishes on their menu that I thought were delicious. The staff were extremely sweet, warm, and inviting and the ambience was clean and hip. We are not so good at trying new places. But since we were very close by we thought why not? Good choice!! Lively and local folks but with Thai street food focus. We loved the food. The service was very good. Bright and sparkly decor. Price not too high. We will start going back here for our Thai food fix. We also like nearby Osawa for Japanese and Union for Italian. Unfortunately, I had a really disappointing experience here. I was excited to try this new Thai spot, but after eating here I ended up getting food poisoning. I'd strongly recommend the restaurant take extra care to make sure food is handled safely and fully cooked before being served. Hoping this was just a one time issue, but definitely something the restaurant and customers should be aware of. We suspect the pork jowl was not fully cooked all the way - it can seem seared on the outside but not cooked inside. We hope this gets addressed! read more

This was a really disappointing lunch experience. First off, there could have communication on what we were getting. The server asked only some of us if we wanted to include egg, assuming all of us wanted it without confirming. He did not tell us that it was extra, so to our surprise, all of our dishes on the receipt had an additional $2. Not only that, the eggs were all cooked differently, with one of the yolks being overdone. Secondly, the dishes we ordered were overpriced. For the portion as well as quality of the dishes, it should not cost more than $20. Either reduce the price to match the portions and better the dishes itself. I came by during their Soft Opening. I'm a Community Manager nearby so naturally I NEED to try new local offerings so I can suggest options to my members. Interior The inside is super cute and feels really open, love the color pop on the tile. There are dining tables as well as a bar top area. Next time I will have to dine in so I can try the Mango Sticky Rice Beer (sounds delicious). Ordering Ordering to go is super easy with the large order table to the right by the entrance. Menu Their menu is limited during the soft open but still offers plenty to choose from, I will def be back once the Green bean dish is available. Food Ordered For this particular visit I ordered the Basil Bowl with Ground Pork - Mild Spicy. Their spice levels are true so if you don't eat spicy much start with Mild. I planned on eating half for lunch and half for dinner but it was so good I devoured it in one sitting. Pricing Pricing is what you would expect for a sit-down restaurant with entrees starting $17. I normally try to keep my lunch purchases under $15 (its hard to do but there are options). However, FriYAY deserves a delicious splurge. Staff The staff is super friendly and inviting. They were very attentive and informative. They even offered me water while I waited for me food (didn't have to wait long at all). Furthermore, the pad see ew was burnt to hell; I could see bits of ash embedded in the noodles and taste the charcoal grill it was wiped off of. I was walking on Union Street, in Old Town Pasadena, and I saw this new, very appealing Thai restaurant. I just entered the place and was immediately greeted by a very friendly hostess. I chose to have something to go and she helped me with the touch screen kiosk. I ordered a Kor Moo Yang and I waited at the bar. After a little while, I got the food, went back home and opened the takeout. The presentation of the Kor Moo Yang was very nice and it tasted really good. The decor is super cute and the vibes are really good. Sadly the food wasn't up to par imo. We got the jellyfish appetizer, mushroom larb with grilled shrimp, and fried rice. I've had jellyfish many times and I'm about 99% sure the "jellyfish" was actually Weilong konjac jelly snacks, which I do enjoy frequently as a snack pack, but is in no way jellyfish or acceptable as an actual restaurant dish. The other two dishes were good, but portions were small for the price point. The mushroom larb was very saucey and sweet, which I didn't expect from larb as it's usually a cleaner flavor. The fried rice was probably my favorite of the bunch. I enjoyed the charred flavor, but the rice itself was quite mushy. I'm not picky about that though, so I still enjoyed it. read more

We ordered an appetizer and two dishes. I asked for no sugar to be added to my dish of glass noodles and shrimp. My wife's dish came first. When I asked about the appetizer, the person waiting on us ( calling her a "waitress" would be a stretch) said "they all cook at the same time" VERY dismissively. What am I supposed to say to that? Then appetizer came. Then my dish that consisted of only noodles. Not ONE shrimp. When I called the person waiting on us to tell her, even before I could say anything, she said "sauces pre-made, they can't do no sugar". And left. I flagged down another person who was a part of the staff and told him my dish had no shrimp. "Zero shrimp" he said, then took it away. Five or ten minutes later, my food was back, with shrimp AND sugar. When I asked for the check, a young man came, and I asked if he was the owner. He informed me he was a partner. I said I needed to talk to him about our experience. He said "sure" and went to another table. So I left. Seriously I don't write these kinds of reviews if there is a little glitch or something.
