I can't believe this place has been around for awhile and I didn't try it until recently! I went here for dinner on a weekday evening so there was no one else there, but even if there was, there's plenty of seating available. I liked the seating arrangements and how we were able to sit right by the window. The waiter was very nice and the service was prompt. What I loved most about it is the fact that they can make any dish on the menu vegan. That's huge! So I definitely took advantage of this and got myself a vegan red curry since curries aren't usually vegan. My husband got the lemongrass dish veganized with tofu. Both dishes were very flavorful and presentation was also very nice and aesthetically pleasing! For dessert, we got the fried banana rolls with ice cream which was also tasty. A huge plus was the fact that they even had a vegan honey for the dessert which is rare to find in restaurants so I was really excited about that ! The only downside to dining at the restaurant is finding parking on the hill which can always be a bit challenging, but because we were there on a weekday, we didn't have much trouble finding some metered parking. This is such a great place for Thai food! It was very flavorful and the best I've had in Providence so far. We started with the Thai Iced Tea and Fresh Rolls-shrimp, lettuce, cucumber, beansprout, carrot, basil wrapped in rice paper. The Thai Iced Tea was good and not too sweet. The fresh rolls was very fresh, just wished there was some vermicelli in there. For entrees, we had the Pad See Eww-beef, wide rice noodle, Chinese broccoli, black soy sauce and Drunken Noodles-Beef, wide rice noodle, egg, thai basil chili base, vegetables. The noodles were so flavorful and had such a great taste. The beef was a little dry, so I would get a different protein next time. The drunken noodles were spicy, so if you can't handle spicy I would suggest leveling down the spice level or order another dish. Everything here was so good. They make their own lime rickeys which is really cool because you don't often see them on menus. I got a tofu dish and my partner got a chicken one. This is absolutely my go to Thai place in the area, and we have tried A LOT. Runner ups for me are usually heng Thai and Khaosan, but this place is currently my number 1. Delivery here is always excellent. Their "spicy" is actually spicy with SO much flavor and without the chili oil that is sometimes used to get dishes spicier. They are pretty good about using some environmentally friendly packaging. We ate at the restaurant once. It is a no frills spot, simply decorated but with friendly service and BYOB!! Favorite dish here first and foremost is an app: the cow-tom soup. Get this if you're a clear soup lover. I swear one day I'm going to walk in there and beg them for the recipe!!! It's so comforting, I can't explain it. Like a thousand Thai grandmas stirred the soup pot. Everything here is solid but our other go-to dishes are any of the curries and drunken noodles. Ordered takeout from here on a Wednesday night around 6pm. Only ordered a few items so it only took about 20 minutes. If you haven't noticed already, it's located on Atwells Ave so there is only street parking. Place is clean and full of green and neutrals. Staff was polite. Didn't see anyone sitting down when picking up my order so not sure if they are currently offering seating due to COVID-19. Call ahead. Drink: Thai iced tea - really good! Sweet but the sweetness wasn't overpowering. Entree: Vegetable pad Thai - good size portion. Flavor was good but it needed a bit more flavor especially on the noodles which were rather pale. So obviously this came with vegetables which is what I wanted but here's the thing, some of the vegetables were cut into too large of pieces. Carrots were a great size, green beans were okay, pepper pieces were large, broccoli was large, and the onion pieces were huge and there were a lot off them. Too many onions to be honest and I do like onion. It made it difficult to enjoy the vegetables with the noodles - they were almost like separate dishes and they should've been more joined together. It was a rainy day. I wanted Thaifood. I ordered online & thought ok this sounds yummy (the curry shoots were pretty fantastic btw) but it gets a reduction in stars for the service & their online ordering functionality. When I ordered the food, it was a rainy summer day. Me & my ex had just wanted something hot to spend the night in & cozy. Simple enough right? Well we ordered it online & it didn't give us an option to not tip or to tip in person. It was a takeout order so the fact that the ordering didn't allow us to opt out of it was really frustrating. People should always have the option to tip in cash or not at all if they want for takeout. It lost a star because of that. This business likely needs to pay their employees more rather than rely on insisting a tip which, given that it was put on for us, doesn't give me the feeling that it even made it for staff. Alright so now from there, it was time to go pick it up per their text to my phone. I went there (again with it raining) and was told it wasn't ready. "Just give us a few minutes, please. It should only be a couple of minutes." Without parking, my ex was in the alleyway waiting. He'd tried circling around the block but, well, it got tiresome. After a few minutes, I walked back in hoping it would be ready. It wasn't. "There are a lot of orders so we're backed up." Their it would only be a few minutes turned into 20 something. Eventually we got our food & it was pretty decent. The curry shoots were easily my favorite item. We ended up getting food from them multiple times while I was there this summer. If the service on this one opening night had been better, I would have ranked things higher. Sadly it wasn't though. The tipping thing by default also rubbed me really wrong given the rest of the experience. If an order says it's ready don't send notifications saying that it was. Their online stuff needs work & changes. Hopefully they fix it so that others do not get the first experience that I did while there. read more

Extremely friendly staff and owner. The decor and ambience is exactly what you're looking for. Would recommend this restaurant without a second thought. Not only is the food really good and authentic; the owner is very conscious about waste and sustainability. They encourage you to use pasta straws to cut back on plastic straw and your own containers (if you're taking out) are wax wrapped paper. Welp, I've been twice. Service was fair. The first time I was there the waiter used the F bomb when talking to my large party. The nim chow was mediocre, the dry spicy noodles were alright, I tried the mango sticky rice; it was good, but didn't blow my socks off. The Tom yum was spicy and not good... the shrimp fried rice was ok (for comparisons sake, Apsara's is better, bigger, cheaper). You get the point. The prices are a little high for what it is. (Vegan Review) This is one of my favorite Thai food restaurants. I was first interested in this place because they are able to make most/all dishes vegan! I love the scallion pancakes for an appetizer with the curry dipping sauce. Perfect amount of crispiness on the outside with a soft center. The veggie Pad Thai was made vegan for me which is covered with roasted peanuts. I usually squeeze the lemon on it and it's out of this world delicious. They recently added some vegan ice creams to their menu and I was first to try the mango flavor which was also a hit. Friends of mine who eat meat enjoyed the mango curry dish and the chicken and shrimp pad Thai. Also their service was always great. The food I've had here is delicious, and the restaurant is quite a pleasant place to dine. I've had the thai sausage appetizer a couple of times--it's got a bit of bite to it, and some delicious thai flavors of lemongrass and the like. The drunken noodles have a nice mix of noodles, vegetables, and protein. The gra pow had delicious flavor, a good texture, and a fair amount of spice. I'm a bit of a chile pepper lover, so since I moved to this area I've been looking for spicy options (and not finding many!) All of the food at Thailand, however, had an excellent spice level. My first time there, I got the gra pow at the default spice level of 3 for take out, and it was quite respectable. My second time, I ate in and had the drunken noodles at a spice level of 4 and it was enough to make me sweat a bit and be quite happy, without compromising the flavor of the food. I look forward to asking for the gra pow at level 5 some day! read more

Honestly was expecting so much more from this restaurant. Came here with a friend on a Wednesday night on federal hill and it was completely dead. My friend ordered us a secret menu salad to start, which had so much flavors for entrees my friend ordered the larb with sticky rice and I got the chicken shrimp pad Thai. To be honest the food was okay, just not great. And considering the prices of our entree, my friend and I both agreed that we could go to other places in the area for about half the price that we paid. The only redeeming factor was our amazing waitress, Molly. But I guess I would recommend this place if you need a place to eat, and I did see a few guys from grub hub picking up orders so that's a good thing for locals read more

Update: knocking my review down to two stars simply because the owner is very rude, and discourages you from re-visiting if you even hint at any form of criticism. Went around 7pm on a Friday night with a friend and we were immediately seated. There weren't many other people dining in so the service was decent. The ambience of this place is great! The interior is cute and has a very modern vibe. The food however was not so amazing. I've eaten a lot of Thai food at different restaurants, including food on the streets of Thailand. The Thai food here ranks relatively low compared to most other places I've tried. The drunken noodles were extremely salty- so salty to the point that I could not finish it. The portions were relatively small for the price as well. We also got scallion pancakes and gyoza (pork dumplings?) which were decent. Overall I would give the food a 2 star rating. I'm ranking this restaurant 3 stars because of the prompt service and nice ambience. I most likely will not be back. read more

Have wanted to try this place for a while. Went on a Saturday afternoon because we couldn't get into Providence Oyster bars' happy hour. Enjoyed it a lot. There was only one other table there. The vibe was chill. Pretty hip. Server was great, she recommended a couple of the dishes which were good. Appetizers we got the fresh rolls and the Thai sausage. Rolls were not very substantial. Lots of vegetables compared to shrimp but the flavors were there. Sausage was somewhat bland, even with the sauce. Apparently it's one of the more popular appetizers, but it was okay, nothing too special. Mains we tried the pad see ew, pretty standard, the pad Thai was on the sweet side but good flavors as well, and the dry spicy noodles. The dry spicy noodles were a recommendation from the server and probably the best out of the entrees. It comes not mixed, so you mix all the ingredients together which is really cool. Favorite item here, highly recommend! Overall, probably my favorite place in Providence for Thai, can't wait to come back and try the mango sticky rice. read more

We came here on a particularly chilly summer night. We had wanted something hearty and warm, and decided on Thailand Modern Bistro after reading the reviews. Although the restaurant was quite empty when we went, we had a very good dinner. The space itself is very modern, as the name suggests, and had very cute succulents lined up along the window. The service was attentive and welcoming. Here is what I ordered: - Penang curry with shrimp - 4.5/5 - I loved how many shrimps I got in my dish! The flavors were good. Only caveat was that there wasn't a lot of curry, so it was a relatively dry curry dish. - Tom yum soup - 4/5 - standard, good tom yum. I do wish the mushrooms were more cooked, but that's just a personal preference. - Mango sticky rice - 5/5 - haven't had it in a long time! Delicious. I just wish we had more of it! We also ordered ginger tea, but they weren't as good as expected - tasted too much like medicine. Overall, would recommend a visit. read more

I'm not sure why others are going ga-ga over this Thai restaurant. It's OK, but it's not 5 star worthy. I love Thai food. I've eaten my fair share of it, and I must say I found this restaurant's menu to be quite ordinary. There wasn't anything "modern" about it or anything unusual about it. Most of the dishes have been around for many years and can be found at any ordinary Thai restaurant. If anything, the selection on the one-page menu was kinda limited when compared to other Thai restaurants. It's probably because they have a small kitchen. My gyoza pork dumplings were OK. My ga pow was fiery hot (aka: spicy). Now I like fiery hot, but it was simply ground chicken with hot sauce. That's all. It was too basic. Oh, it had two tiny small pieces of diced peppers (no bigger than my little finger nail). I would have preferred it to have more diced peppers and vegetables in it. I would have preferred it to have a slightly more complicated/complex flavor. The interior is decorated nicely but on the night of my visit the indoor temperature was noiceably cold. I wanted to wear my jacket while dining, but I didn't want to look too goofy. So I just wore my sweater. Overall it's nice, but it's not blown-away nice. read more

8 of us went to celebrate my son's birthday. We sat together at a long wooden table and ate " family style", trying all different dishes. Everything we ordered was outstanding! We loved it, and will go back frequently. It was fun to bring our own white and red wine, and was much more economical. Love the BYoB for a change! My dinner guests and I have always been treated like family here. We have never had a bad time. Additionally if you are looking for something different in terms of spice, and flavors, you cannot go wrong. I can't comment on "authenticity", as I have not been to Thailand, so that would just be silly! However this place is likely the real deal. New items I have finally tried and love are: -thai sausage ---unique, herbal, hot, spice -thai iced tea --- normally I am hesitant about brightly colored beverages, but I could suck down 2 or three of these easily and happily. I need to try the thai iced coffee earlier in the day! -you can't really go wrong with the drunken noodles if you are looking for a moderate amount of spice, and delicious flavors and textures all around! -oh! and I loved the tom yum red soup--its perfectly spiced and flavoured! I was greeted immediately upon entering. I really liked the modern decor of this place. One thing that stood out to me was the display of aluminum cans which spelled out Thailand. This is a great byob place that opened on fed hill. Casual homey interior Started with the curry shoots which were very crispy with a nice slightly sweetened potato curry filling. We asked for a side of hot sauce but they said they said there was none (though I saw the waitress bring it to another table but she was super attentive and friendly. So I think she probably didn't hear me). They have a soy ginger sauce which was still good We got the chicken gar pow which was very tasty but not as spicy as I thought based on previous reviews. I have a very high tolerance however! Red curry always a staple. Lots of veggies (especially bamboo which is my favorite) and a good amount of chicken. But my favorite was the dried noodle with fried wonton (which is on their secret menu) Absolutely fantastic and reminds me of a dish I had in Chiangmai. Great authentic Thai restaurant on Federal Hill! Decided to try this new place with some friends tonight and had a very positive experience. The staff are really friendly and encouraged us to try new things. We started off with the papaya salad and scallion pancakes with curry dipping sauce- both fantastic. I had the chicken Sahara fried rice which was very flavorful and delicious. For dessert we had an assortment of sweets including green tea and red bean ice cream. So amazing! Their twist on on Thai food is so deliciously different. These dishes are nothing like any other Thai food I've ever had and apparently dishes the owners brought with her from Thailand.
