This little gem is so cute and cozy. It's a family owned business that did not disappoint. Our sever was so friendly and kind and made the experience that much better. The food was so good that I barely remembered to take any pictures by the time I realized it was already half gone lol. We stopped in just because we were riding by and got curious. We found out it actually contained 2 separate but unique restaurants. One side was a pizzeria and the other was a Thai restaurant. We opted for the Thai and my goodness, what a treat. We began with a bowl of Tom Yum soup which was superb. After picking up my 10 year-old daughter from summer camp, I asked what she wanted for lunch. She said glass noodles.I typed in the key words on Yelp and found Thai Cafe, which serves Woon Sen Soup made with ground chicken, tofu, and glass noodles. I wasn't in the mood to drive a long way to my favorite Thai restaurants (Apsara on Public St. and Thai Star on Chalkstone Ave.), therefore I decided to try Thai Cafe just 3 miles nearby for the first time. To my surprise, I soon realized this restaurant is unfairly underrated at only 3 1/2. This is perfect if you want to dine in a safe, quiet place away from rough crowds. It's located in a secluded area in Smithfield bordering Lincoln and North Providence on Douglas Pike. I found parking right away at 4:00 p.m. and was immediately drawn to the charming bungalow-like building, tiny outdoor dining area, and the adorable decor inside. Our waiter was warm and welcoming. This was EXACTLY what I needed!!! A peaceful, positive dining experience with a happy, content child. The Thai Iced Tea (can order unsweetened, to which I added 3 bags of Splenda that I brought with me) and Woon Sen Soup (we added some hot sauce to give it some kick) were delicious. This restaurant is unique in that it is combined with a pizzeria, Twin River Pizza, w/ a separate menu. I highly recommend the chicken wings, the woonsen soup, wonton soup, tofu triangles, and Thai iced tea. I have been here many times since and my whole family (save for my cat, Moo) loves it here. We ordered takeout from here this past weekend and it was great! We got chicken fried rice, Pad Woon Sen with Chicken and Shrimp, Woon Sen Soup and chicken curry puffs. The soup was not my favorite and I didn't finish it. It was kind of hard to eat the noodles were not easy to put in a spoon and the broth needed more flavor. The Chicken Curry Puffs we got so we could try something different and they were like big empanadas. They were good but lacked some seasoning and were slightly bland. The chicken fried rice was perfect! It tasted so clean and fresh we thoroughly enjoyed this and will definitely be getting it again. The Pad Woon Sen was phenomenal. Chicken and shrimp were cooked perfectly and this was a hearty portion well worth the price we paid. This was our first Thai experience since I moved to Rhode Island and it was a good one! Unlike ANY Thai food I've ever had; ordered the Chicken Pad Thai (huge pieces of dry mostly dark meat (thats pretty remarkable on its own?!)) noodles were pretty standard, came with no lime or clear sauce. The chicken satay were tasty (more curry than I expect of satay) but, also dry. My poor mother ordered the Garlic flavored pork, which was HORRIBLY DRY both over cooked and in zero sauce to boot (see photos). The crab rangoon were good. I've been coming here for years and I'm never unsatisfied. It's the best Thai food around. I've tried other Thai food and it just doesn't compare. It's usually pretty quiet inside but they do a lot of take out orders as well. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. I like to sit at the bar, their margaritas are the best. My favorite dishes are the pad Thai and the drunken noodle (which is super spicy). The portions are huge so I usually take some home for lunch the next day. The dumplings are also addicting. The prices are super reasonable for the food and the drinks. They usually have food specials on the board which change depending on the day of the week. I've ate here a few times and always enjoyed it. The portions are fair for the price, food is delicious, and service is prompt. I go here on Thursday nights for trivia. Sometimes I get drinks and sides, other times (like tonight) I get a full meal. This restaurant is accommodating to parties of all sizes, and I really like the dining area layout. I attended a friend's grad party here last year, and there was plenty of room for everyone while keeping the restaurant open for business on the other side. It makes for a more intimate experience. I ordered through Grubhub today and was disappointed with the food. I got the veggie fresh spring rolls and the fried tofu, both dishes tasted like they were old. The sauce for the spring rolls was thick and I didn't really like it. Peanut sauce would've been better. My girlfriend got the chicken drunken noodle and said it was delicious. For that reason, I'd give this place another chance and hope that their vegan options are fresher next time. read more

What a pleasant surprise! There aren't many good restaurants in this area of the state, and we wound up here after finding out there was a long wait at another place. We didn't realize when we walked in that it shares space with a bar/wings joint, but wow. The staff gave us menus for both. I'm so glad we ordered from the Thai menu, because this is some of the best SE Asian food we've had in a LONG time, and it's very reasonably priced for the portion sizes. The Thai crispy rolls were perfectly fine but underwhelming, so I wasn't sure what to expect from the entrees. But the larb gai (ground chicken salad) and khao soi were exceptional - incredibly fresh and spicy, with lots of lemongrass, cilantro, and basil. Even the wonton soup was nicely spiced, with lots of black pepper. I'm eager to back and sample other dishes from the extensive menu. Not every SE Asian restaurant offers these more authentic dishes, and I wonder if some of the negative reviews are because customers are used to bland, Americanized versions of this cuisine. Having said all that, don't expect ambiance. But when the food is this good, I don't really care if there are 3 TVs near the bar. read more

Thai Cafe is one of the best Thai restaurants in Norhern Rhode Island and I have tried them all. The Spicey Pad Thai and the Firey Curry Noodles are my favorites. And the Tom Yum Soup is just perfect. Ray also runs Twin River Pizza under the same roof and they serve a dozen different versions of what I call the boneless chicken which is essentially a very large portion of 100% white meat deep fried with a crispy batter coating. The Crispy Thai flavor is my favorite by far and it is half price on Thursday nights which is Trivia Night starting at 8:30 pm. They have 4 giant screen TVs tuned to any channel you want to watch. Chicken pad thai was over-flavored way to sweet for me, it also smelled like fish flavor so before my first bite I cringed a bit and threw the rest away. When Thai Cafe popped up down the street from my house I was thrilled. "Finally a new restaurant in this Bermuda Triangle for food! and they deliver? omgggg!". Well based on my star rating you can probably see that those feelings are not felt these days. Theres just something off about this place. It may be that it's half thai restaurant/half pizza place. It may be that it's in an area where the palates are of the bland variety. What I do know is that Thai Cafe has become a last resort situation for my family. I typically order the cashew chicken if I decide to order from here. The flavor of the dish isn't what bothers me. It's the fact that at $13 for a dinner combo, you get 10 slivers of chicken and 4 pounds of veggies. Some people might be into it but I'm not one of them. Also every time I dig into the white rice that comes with the meal, I find a very large portion of it to be crunchy/burnt. Very unpleasant. In the past I've ordered apps but they have gone a bit downhill since opening day. The tofu triangles taste like paste. Probably because they are cut so thick. I also used to enjoy the chicken satay with peanut sauce. My major gripe here is the peanut sauce. The first time I had it it was perfect. Now the consistency is off. To me it's just peanut butter smeared into a small cup. Besides the food, the staff is friendly enough. I usually deal in takeout/delivery. There have been half a dozen times that we ordered and got the wrong food delivered to us. You definitely was to speak very clearly when ordering. Dismal. The Thai Iced Tea tastes like cough drops, and the food was delivered with the sauces spilled all over the bag, making a huge sloppy mess for me while I was at my internship. When the secretary asked if they were really going to leave it like that, the delivery person stated "it's a messy dish." No. You're just lazy and careless and your food was subpar. I got a Chive Pancake and Vegetarian Pad Thai. None of that screams "messy" unless improperly packaged and carelessly transported, which the latter was clearly evident. This is the single worst Thai food I've ever, ever had. I placed an order through "foodler" and was deeply dissatisfied, like down to my soul dissatisfied. I ordered the 'roti massaman' which came drenched in oil and while it claims on the menu to be a grilled dish, it seems to actually be an incredibly poorly fried dish. I additionally ordered the pad thai, which was just plain awful...like super, super, profoundly awful.
