Well first of they cheat us the price'' the food was for one mail it said $12.99 and we order 2 and one beer the bill they told us to pay $37 +tip but the bill it was only show the total it dose't tell what they charge 2nd the food wasn't clean and over cooked. The decor's a little lacking (probably why there's more takeout traffic than eat-in) but the food is always good. Much better than O'Ginger Bistro around the corner, which is always far too salty. As far as Thai food goes, this is definitely one of my favorites! They make a killer Phad Kee Mao and Phad Thai. Nice decor, servers are helpful and friendly. However service gets pretty slow during the lunch hours (although we were the only ones dining in the restaurant, there were loads of people coming in to pick up take out). Also, it's really hard to get a wheelchair in here, as the ramp is super steep and short. But the food is excellent so giving it 5 stars! read more

I only recently discovered Thai Ocean, though after talking to the workers this place has been here for some time now. I stopped here on a lunch break and had the Rad Na, which I really liked. The sauce wasn't overly seasoned and sweet like many other places. The meat was tender and very flavorful. Overall the restaurant doesn't have the trendy feel of many places, though the people here are very friendly and make good food. We also liked that they have parking, for what is otherwise a hard area to find something in the Green Lake area. I'd definitely stop back in, when I'm in the area again. read more

FAVORITE Thai restaurant in Seattle! Their to go portions last me 1-3 meals. Their lunch specials are great. I love supporting their family business! They are always so kind!! This place is a solid 4 stars. I have eaten here plenty of times. I typically go here for lunch. The prices are more than reasonable considering their portion sizes are huge. I can get a to-go meal and easily split it into 2 meals. My go-to dishes are pineapple fried rice with chicken and prawns(~$11) or the pad se ew with beef (~$9). The dishes are made fresh, with plenty of spice (medium spicy) and include a good portion of fresh vegetables (broccoli, tomato and cucumber). Every neighborhood has to to have a Thai place. I think Thai Ocean has been here long before Albertson's was torn down to build apartments. Yes its a restaurant and food is ok. Definitely be sure to order water or tea to drench your innards after every salty bite of Thai food. I believe every Thai dish (not just here mind you) is laden w with salt. That said, the food isnt that bad, ok imo. Entrees are reasonably priced for a decent amount of food. On my recent adventure, I ordered my favorite Phad See Ew to go and expected to have leftovers. Alas, only 9 pieces of beef. I counted. I expected more tender meat. Tiny leftovers, but refer to my comment above to drink plenty of water... couldn't finish. Decent food, sometimes. A dear friend of mine showed me this place a long time ago and I cannot get enough of it. The lady who owns the place is a gem, incredibly friendly, funny and all about her customers. When in, I usually get the shrimp fried rice, along with the spicy chicken (3 stars) Which I completely recommend. I am SO SAD as I write this. Thai Ocean is some on the best tasting Thai food in this neighborhood. Unfortunately, they have a ROACH PROBLEM. Last time I ate IN the restaurant, a cockroach ran across my arm and then the table before I screamed and smashed it. The staff came over to see what the commotion was and when I showed them the dead roach and what happened, they laughed and said, Oh no! Then brought me the bill. Full charge. Really good service over the phone. I ordered take-out and it was ready in 15-20 minutes. The pickup process was painless and the food portions were massive. And the restaurant is in a convenient location. Two pad thai's, a panang curry, two thai teas, and an iced coffee later...we were full and so happy. The thai teas were a little too sweet but still delicious. The only one thing was...they charged me for rice for the curry. Who wants saucy protein with no rice? This place was a pleasant surprise for a little Thai joint right around the corner from my friend's new apartment. Absolutely AWESOME fresh rolls, served with heated peanut sauce. They were to die for. I could have easily eaten TONS more of them. I'm dreaming of them right now... Solid Pad Thai, although I would have preferred a bit more tofu and I wasn't a huge fan of the added carrots and broccoli. The staff was very friendly and service was very quick. Convenient location, mediocre food for the price, good portions. I have eaten at Thai Ocean several times living near the Green Lake area. The restaurant is right across from Circa condo complex right next to Green Lake. There is a small parking lot outside of the restaurant which is nice, since parking can be a little tricky in that area. Pineapple fried rice: Had a balance of meat, veggies and pineapple. The flavor is decent, a good standard Thai dish. Chicken pad Thai: Generally one of our favorite go to dishes at Thai restaurants, but unfortunately their pad Thai was not up to par. The sauce tasted strange and off compared to how pad Thai is suppose to taste. The noodles had a ketchup-like taste to make it sweet and sour, as opposed to the classic tang from tamarind, lime and spices of traditional pad Thai flavor. It was interesting, but still edible. Service is okay. The restaurant has often been mostly empty when we dine-in or take-out. With many other Thai choices in the Seattle Area, we likely wouldn't consider this a top option. read more

If I were a coconut, I would most definitely wish my life would go to the sweet savory broth of a good Tom Ka Gai soup. Thai Ocean seems to have harvested this delicious flavor ten fold. Love the perfect amount of spice, not overpowering but not bland. Kudos to them. My Pad Khi Mao was surprisingly colorful. You know you are about to experience either flavor nirvana or overwhelming robustness when you are actually able to see the multiple ingredients in one bite on your fork. This is when you silently pray before you consume the spectacle. Thank goodness Thai Ocean got it right. I do like all things riparian, and so I decided to feast at Thai Ocean yesterday. The name is interesting, sort of. Would the host be dressed as Manchanu, guarding the lake lead that leads to the underworld? Would it be an ocean of flavor or a tsunami of culinary ecstacy? Or would it be like a gently pounding surf, lulling me into bliss? I arrived around 5pm and immediately spotted the ocean-- a fish tank in the wall in the back of the restaurant. They should really call the place Thai Tidal Pool, or maybe Thai dal Pool. ahhahahah!! Hahah!!!! ahem... There wasn't anyone else there yet, but by the time I had visited the moldy smelling bathroom bordering a musty worn carpeted foyer, there were many more customers clamoring to get their "to go" orders. The owner was very pleasant and accomodating, and the staff there didn't seem to mind "Junior", a fat squirrel who waits outside the door for food all the time. I ordered tea and red curry squirrel, er I mean chicken. I asked the owner to make it very very very very spicy. Their hot scale is a 1 to 4 star scale. I asked for 4 star. It was hot, but not really as hot as I wanted. But it was tasty and I loved the fact that they served brown rice, which is much better for you than Jasmine rice. I was thinking about the squirrel. I wanted to really like a Thai restaurant that fed squirrels by a lake. There's something very John Muir or Kerouac about it. And after I paid, I decided that if I was hungry and in the area again, I might return. So, 1 star for the decor (it actually kind of depressed me --salmon/perriwinkle colored 1980's era decor), 2 or 3 stars for the red curry chicken I ordered with brown rice (it was good), and 5 stars for having a fat squirrel begging at the door. I love this place for the consistently good service and best-ever Phad Kee Mow (I get take-out and ask for (fried) tofu instead of meat). I always ask for extra broccoli and they get the two-star spiciness exactly right (with actual pieces of pepper for heat!). The "wide" noodles are the kind that are cut from sheets...delicious and so much better than regular wide noodles. If they're not too busy and it's chilly outside, someone will usually offer me a cup of hot tea while I wait for my to-go order. :D After walking three blocks in the rain to take it home, it's still piping hot and delicious. If you live in this area, you must try it! It just might become your favorite rainy-day weekend study food. read more

I could have sworn that I stopped by my Aunt Becky's house for a meal. Although I was just grabbing take out, they invited me to have a seat at a table while I waited. They brought me some hot tea and explained that she didn't want me to catch a cold with the weather. As I was waiting a regular walked in and before she sat down a waitress brought her out the Singha she hadn't yet ordered. And don't miss the "fresh roll w/ peanut sauce"..always hand-written on a whiteboard so you think it's a special, but it's the only special and they never erase it. Once I asked the kid working there why there's always a bottle of red Revlon nail polish included with Buddha's daily food offering (brass plate next to the register). I always order the green curry as I know for sure it will be good. Another go to is the Fresh Rolls. The spiciness level varies from day to day. Some days a 3 star will burn your mouth up, other days, not so much. To summarize: I keep going back when I get the craving. The lunch menu is the key. read more

On my semi-frequent walks over to The Latona for a pint, I always go past Thai Ocean and think to myself, "hmm, I like Thai food, I should try this place." So, when a coworker wanted to grab some Thai for dinner, guess where I suggested? You guessed it: Thailand. But, because by the time we got there it would have been well past dinner time, I begrudgingly suggested Thai Ocean. I ordered the garlic prawns, and she had the pad thai, both of which were pretty solidly done. As I'm a spice hound however, I was a bit disappointed (as I am with most Thai restaurants, to be fair) in their supposedly 5-star heat. I'm generally of the opinion that if your eyes aren't watering a bit when you're eating spicy food, it simply isn't spicy enough. Also, despite being one of the world's biggest garlic proponents, I must say that even for me they laid it on pretty thick. Despite a meal having 'garlic' in its name, you should still be able to taste the other ingredients in the dish, which I sadly could not (the prawns were nicely cooked though). Both the bite of pad thai I had, and the fried spring roll appetizer were delicious. Service was quick and friendly, but my friend had one complaint that I wholeheartedly agree with: we both ordered, and our waitress asked if we wanted rice with our entrees, and of course we said yes, because when you order an entree that is meant to be eaten with rice that's what you do. We did not, however, expect to be charged for said rice. It's a small complaint, and it's not like it was expensive, but a Thai place not offering complementary rice just feels a bit on the cheap side. I LOVE Thai Ocean! The people who work there are super friendly and super accomodating. I heard a patron advise someone she couldn't have corn or soy and they were able to serve her quickly and at her requests. When I said I couldn't eat wheat, the waitress immediately said, "are you gluten-free?" YES! Someone who understands (no, it is NOT an allergy to milk 'tards at other places who don't get it) what I can and cannot eat :) They even promised me a new wok would be used for the dishes I would be eating, so no cross contamination woudl occur in the pan from the soy sauce. The portions are big enough to split and it's a great way to try a lot of dishes. Favs are: Fresh Rolls, Phad Thai, Panang Curry, and Yellow Curry. This is partially because we order the same thing everytime, it's so good! A nice way to end a walk before dinner- or go to dinner early and walk after to work off some of those coconut calories :) read more
