    Really good dumplings
    Dan R.

We had dinner for three delivered from Thai North on Saturday night. I sampled two of the dishes, plus my entrée. Here's the report card. The Steamed Pork Dumplings (Six for $5.95) were very good. The dough wasn't super thick like you see some times. They were good sized, moist and delicious. The Honey Sesame Chicken ($12.95 was 'Lightly battered chicken pieces fried until crispy, tossed in sauce put on top of crispy rice noodles and topped with sesame seed' was absolutely perfect -a great example of melt in your mouth perfection. It was by far the best item in our delivery bag. My entrée was from the menu's big curry section - a promising looking dish named Seafood Kang Som Curry - (Low calories without coconut milk) described as 'The famous Thai hot and sour kang som curry with napa cabbage, yu choy (an Asian green), turnip, and string beans. It can be ordered with steamed rice, brown rice, sticky rice or noodles. I went with the noodles. Honestly, I was disappointed with the curry. It was served in a one quart soup container because... well, it kind of was a soup. Look, I am a soup guy, I love soups and phos and chowders and bisques, well you get the idea. I have never seen a soup served in a restaurant that separated into two distinct layers like this one did. The top three fourths of the container held a thin but very flavorful broth. The bottom was like a thick muck of a paste that was quite unappetizing. I've never seen anything like this before in any restaurant soup bowl or take out container. In all fairness, the soup was loaded with vegetables, three shrimps, calamari and scallops. But once I finished off the broth and the seafood and the noodles, I left the rest of the mess in the bottom of the container. One more thing - the menu choice showed two hot peppers on the old spice meter, so I expected some kind of heat with the dish, but it delivered none. Maybe all the heat was in that nasty mess at the bottom of the container. Based on the reasonable pricing, the speed of delivery, the gargantuan menu, and the excellent Honey Sesame Chicken, I'll go with three stars. Had the soup/curry dish been better, it would be a clear 4 stars.

Sticky Rice with Mango (Khao Neow Ma Muang) and look at the carrot flower. It's the little touches.

Came back to Thai North after many years away. Was excited to take friends here as whenever I'd visit in the past it was always amazing. Last night it was a disappointment. Perhaps an off night, but the food was incredibly bland. Zero spice. Not a lot of flavor. Even the atmosphere of the inside of the dine in area of the restaurant felt different to me. I hope it was just an off night, but it's possible the quality has dropped all around. I used to recommend this place to my Asian continent born friends living in Boston area and now don't feel like I can.

Thai North is a Thai restaurant in Oak Square, a short walk from the YMCA. Parking is street only - just read the signs and do not assume. It is a small spot with four seats set along the window counter; a table for 2, two for 4 (easily convertible for a party of 8), and one for 6. They take reservations and credit cards. I love the well labeled food photos decorating the wall to the right, the colorful bits of decorations, and the cute salt and pepper shakers set at each table. As a sizeable party, we tried a good number of dishes family style, requesting that they make it all either mild or not spicy, depending on the dish. TN1. Northern Bermese Curry Spicy $9.95 PORK Choice of pork or chicken, peanut, ginger, pineapple stew in home style Hung Ley broth with toss of cilantro and scallion. Oh so tender melty pig belly! My favorite dish! I even ate the fat and skin. And accompanied with a nice sauce to boot. TN13. Grilled Puerco $6.95 PORK Grilled marinated pork or chicken in skewer served with northern style chili dipping sauce. This arrived as five sticks flavored with a tasty marinade. TN16. Chainmai Noodle Curry $9.95 Egg noodle, simmered chicken dump stick, pickle green mustard, shredded red onion, scallion and cilantro in northern Thai style curry. If you're not crazy about the pickled vegetable in a curry sauce, take it out while it is decorating the top of the dish. There was plenty for us to each have a small sample bowlful. They couldn't make this completely not spicy, but I could handle this level of heat. TN5. Tomato Based Ground Meat Spicy $9.95 Ground pork, tomato, lemon grass, simmered in northern Thai style served with pork rind, boiled egg and steamed vegetable. Without the heat, this didn't stand out as anything special but rather was just ground pork plus tomato sauce. But the pork rind that came alongside was a treat. C6. Eggplant Basil $10.95 CHICKEN Chicken, beef, pork, tofu or vegetables. Stir fired with eggplant, basil leaves, mushroom, string bean, onion, scallion and bell pepper in basil sauce. Got our dose of vegetables from this dish, cooked up in a manner where they retained a decent bite. E8. Rainbow Paradise Spicy $9.95 -SHRIMP (+$1) Stir fried mango, pineapple, bamboo, mushroom, string bean, carrot, zucchini, baby corn, snow pea with sweet sour sauce. The heat level still retained was okay with me. There were maybe 5 shrimp on the plate. V1. Vegetable Pad Tai Vegetarian $9.95 Stir fried rice noodles with broccoli, carrot, cabbage, zucchini, eggs, bean sprouts and scallion topped with ground peanuts. Tasty, but too sweet for some of us. Some dishes came accompanied by an individual portion of your choice of white rice, brown rice, sticky rice, and steamed noodles. We tried all four, and I say, go for the sticky and the noodles! Mango Sticky Rice $6.00 The sliced mango was so prettily presented in a heart shape around the sticky rice. A tasty dessert despite the fruit being a bit under-ripe. Thai Custard (no pumpkin by request) $5.50? (since this was off-menu) I enjoyed the flavor and texture of this sweet very much. Green Tea Fried Ice Cream $4.50 This was good, and it was so nice of the staff at Thai North to send it out to us as a complete surprise after they had discerned that we were celebrating a birthday. I'd be quite happy to come back to enjoy a repeat of the two pork dishes (Northern Bermese Curry and Grilled Puerco) and the desserts, and to perhaps try their Chicken Paradise, Northern Pork Salad, and one of their duck entrees.

Thai Sausage fried rice. If not for the egg would jave been totally devoid of taste that includes the sausage which added nothing.

Some very tasty options here had tom sap soup here today and it was delicious although it wasn't lit from the bottom as I gad been told on a previous visit when I asked about it. Also tried the Wild Boar Basil dish which is very good indeed.

Thai North has a variety of foods on their menu that extends beyond Thai food - Chinese, Vietnamese, and just an eclectic mixture. The inside is plastered with pictures of their food and menu. There are maybe 4 or 5 tables, and it seems they mainly do a lot of take out orders. We dined on a Saturday evening, so they were busier and the inside was louder due to the amount of people and small size. I tried the duck noodle soup, which was overall just okay. The broth would have been perfect, but it was sweet, which I'm not a fan. They give you a good amount of duck, and I liked there were no bones on any of the duck pieces. It did come with some vegetables in the broth as well. It appears they only have street parking, which has been free the two times I have visited Thai North. I think next time I will opt for take out and try more of their Thai dishes.

N6. Drunken Noodles and Thai tea.

Oh my goodness. During this time of lockdown I was down and decided that I just needed a delicious meal. I got the drunken noodle which they have a lunch special and the Thai tea with bubble. It is soooo darn good! The food arrived still hot. It is savory and spicy. The noodles are cooked perfectly and the tea...... oh my goodness you are missing out if you skip this sweet delightful drink from heaven. Thank you for being open during these times. Y'all rock

My go to for Thai food right now! Authentic and delicious, and portion sizes for the price is very fair. Compared to other places in the area, this is the place to eat Thai! I've ordered here multiple times, and I usually order: Tom Yum Soup - a bit on the sour side but overall great taste Pad Thai - flavorful. Just simply great. There are places where pad Thai is bland and dry, but not this one. Drunken Noodle - one of the all time favorite. The sauce is plenty and so good you will want to eat the sauce with everything. Tom Kua - creamy and delicious Pa-Nang Curry - my favorite curry out of the other curry selections. Usually when there is a Penang Curry option, I go with that! I love the flavor of Penang Curry...Creamy, coconut, a bit of spice (I opted for mild because I don't handle spicy well)

I ordered carry out on a Wednesday night. No eat in customers but at least 4 other folks came in for carry-out orders as well. Restaurant itself is very cute and the owner was very sweet, offering me a glass of water as I waited. To aid in ordering they also have pictures of all their offerings hanging on one of the walls. Super helpful if you aren't familiar with Thai food. My drunken Udon noodles with chicken was very oily and spicy although I had requested not spicy. Very disappointing . However, since this place is within easy walking distance from me I'll probably be stopping by once the weather is cold to give one of their many soups a try.

Thai North is found in the Oak Square area of Brighton, pretty much across the street from the YMCA. It is in a rather unassuming location, almost hidden from view. But their food is anything but unassuming. Based on a review in a food blog, a few of us decided to give Thai North a try. We especially liked the fact that it's not your typical Thai restaurant. What makes Thai North stand out is the Isaan cuisine from northern Thailand (hence the name of the restaurant). It used to be the case that the Isaan cuisine was only listed on a chalkboard and available only if you knew how to read it. Thank goodness they now not only put up great pictures of all the possible dishes, but also have the English translation on the back page of the menu. So - just ignore most things on the menu and go straight for the Isaan cuisine on the back of the menu. While most Thai food is a bit sweet with some spiciness, Isaan cuisine seems to be more savory. It possesses a richness and complexity in flavor that, while delicious, is difficult to describe. We absolutely loved the Chiangmai Noodle Curry, with its chicken leg, masaman curry, egg noodles, crispy noodles, red onions and other veggies. The curry enriched the noodles and is actually a good broth to put other noodles in there if you have a hankering to take it home. The Northern BBQ plate was a close second to the noodle curry. The Thai North dumplings were a bit like a savory mochi with chives and positively melted in our mouths. The Duck Salad (larb) is very rich in flavor (a warning to those who may not like more pungent tastes). To finish off the meal, we had their Thai Mango with Sticky Coconut Rice dessert. It was the perfect finish to a great meal.

We walked into a small, clean, and welcoming space with a casual atmosphere that kept the focus on the food. The dining room was modest and unpretentious, with a layout that accommodated both small groups and solo diners comfortably. The energy of the room stayed relaxed, and the self-serve water bottles on each table added a nice touch that made the experience feel more casual and unhurried. The noodle soups are the highlight of the menu. We ordered a few options and found the Nam Tok noodles and spicy blood soup having rich, flavorful broths with plenty of depth. The option to choose different noodle types made it easy to tailor each bowl to our preference, and the heat here felt authentic rather than toned down, adding another layer of flavor instead of simply making the dish hotter. Beyond the noodles, there were several dishes worth trying, including the pork leg rice, fish maw soup, and spicy pork rib soup. The menu offered a good mix of familiar and lesser-known Thai specialties, making it easy to branch out if we were looking to try something different. The honey wings and salmon yum were also solid choices, adding variety to the meal and working well as shareable plates. Service was friendly during our visit, and the staff were happy to answer questions about the menu for anyone unfamiliar with some of the more traditional dishes. Since the dining room is fairly small, it could get busy during peak meal times, but the relaxed atmosphere made it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal without feeling rushed. One detail we appreciated was that the restaurant stays true to its concept instead of trying to appeal to everyone. The menu leans into authentic Thai flavors and ingredients, making it a good spot if you are interested in exploring regional dishes that are not as common around Boston. Sen Yai Thai Noodles is an easy recommendation if you are looking for authentic Thai comfort food centered around noodle soups and traditional specialties. The flavorful broths, unique menu, and welcoming atmosphere make it a place worth returning to whenever we are craving something beyond the standard Thai takeout menu.

Back then, they were a normal-style restaurant (similar system to Panda Express). After that first time, I quickly became a repeat customer because of their catfish, pork soup, and the crispy pork. Just those three were sufficient and then several months later, they became a buffet-style restaurant. I was elated. They experimented with other dishes but the crispy pork remained my favorite. No matter what dish they make, all of them were infused with strong flavors and mouth-watering aroma. It is truly a tragedy that this restaurant closed. Service/wait-time/cleanliness (1.5/2): The people here were incredibly courteous and kind whenever they served us. Wait-time can be rather long ever since they converted to a buffet-style but somehow they still manage to keep the restaurant clean and well-kept. Price (1/1): Even back when they were NOT a buffet, their price were very reasonable for the amount of food they give. We noticed our server was the only server for all the tables, haha crazy! Here's what we ended up ordering: -roti (w/ potato curry sauce) -chicken wings (w/ spicy garlic sauce) -pad see ew -pla pad kun chai (fried cod fish fillet w/ lemongrass + Chinese celery) -Thai iced tea We tried the chicken wings, the roti, and Thai iced teas at the restaurant & ended up requesting for the rest of our food to go since we were on a time crunch. Thoughts: The pad see ew was delicious! We reheated it later that night & it was flavorful. I would definitely get this again. The chicken wings had good flavor but we found the chicken itself to be very dry inside. Made it difficult to enjoy. I loved the potato curry sauce that came with the roti. Simple but tasty dish. The pla pad kun chai was our least favorite dish we ordered. It didn't taste good at all after reheating. We're curious if we would've enjoyed this more if we ate it at the restaurant when it was fresh? The fish had a very fishy smell & didn't taste like it had been treated with lemon, vinegar, or both. We usually enjoy cod fish & lemongrass but this was a complete miss for us. Lastly, the Thai iced tea was okay. It was a bit too watery for us & we wished it could've been creamier. Overall, I would come back again to give Cha Yen another try. I did like the dishes we tried at the restaurant & perhaps the fish for example would've tasted better if had at the restaurant.

Arriving at 6, our party of 4 received seating immediately; the establishment only had a few other tables occupied (they did have a decent number of delivery orders). We ordered everything to share, I sampled the following: - Sai Oua | $10 - Crying Tiger | $16 - Kra-Pow w/ground Pork | $14 - Drunken Noodle w/Beef | $16 The Sai Oua, a Northern Thai style of sausage, had both strong lemongrass and earthy herbal flavors. This proved quite addictive; the plate emptied quickly. The Crying Tiger, a grilled steak, proved equally popular given the savory marinade's interplay with tangy dipping sauces. The Kra-Pow w/ground pork, an orthodox menu item representing ground pork sautéed with chili, garlic, basil leaves with hot basil sauce over rice, met expectations. The Drunken noodle with beef, another orthodox menu item, this time with sautéed flat rice noodles with egg, basil, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, and onions in spicy basil sauce, also tasted decent. Notably, the spicy sauce actually had some heat and didn't just taste like soy sauce. Overall, I enjoyed everything. The starting 2 appetizers stood out compared to the mains mostly because of the novelty. The portion sized did seem a bit small, but given the quality, I can understand the establishment trying to maintain a certain price point.
