This place is absolutely delicious! Everything tastes fresh, and flavorful. Delivery or dine in, comes hot like it's right off the stove. Our favorite thing to order always is the Calamari - holy yum. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was really because of the awkward standing around in the middle of the dining room while waiting to be seated and the employees seeing us stand there and still not seating for a few minutes. Made a reservation for 7pm on Saturday before Mother's Day. When we arrived , there was plenty of seating and were sat immediately . We order our drinks and food within minutes of arriving. Although we waited about 25/30 minutes for our food , it was well worth the wait. My husband and I enjoyed the drunken noodles , chicken pad Thai and shared the vegetable spring rolls as appetizer . I tried their Thai iced tea , when it arrived to table I was shocked at how orange it was but it was so refreshing and delicious. They even had a kid meals with chicken fries for our picky 7 year old daughter and she ate everything on her plate. So that says a lot !! Everything we had was delicious and fresh ! I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant and recommending to friends. The first time we tried Thai Essence we did take out. We had two chicken pad Thais, one spicy and the other regular. When I asked for spicy pad thai, they gave us an option of three levels of spicy; I got level 3 and surprisingly it wasn't too spicy. We were satisfied with our take out order, so we came in a second time to dine in. The ambiance was very classy: nice decor and jazz music played in the background. We order the sample trio to start, which comes with a delicious peanut sauce (sauces were a little too sweet, but fresh and delicious). For our main courses we had cashew nuts stir fried with beef and chicken pad Thai. Pad Thai was as delicious as the first time we had it! Overall, it was a good experience. My girlfriend loved it, but it was too sweet for my liking. Nonetheless, we'll be coming here again to try other things on the menu. read more

Had a pretty large order from here if about 80 dollars. We ordered 2 types of noodles - Pad See Ew and Drunken Noodles. Both items were luke warm and the Pad See Ew had a weird smell to it. There was nothing special about these items. The drunken noodles were not sautéed properly as only the flavoring could only be seen on the outside and not toward the inside. Started off with the chicken dumplings. They were a good choice. Then we moved onto the chicken pad Thai and the green chicken curry, spicy level two. Level two was in my spicy zone. Level three would have been tolerable, but not enjoyable. Then we took the recommendations from here and went for the chocolate soufflé. It was the best decision of the night. It takes an extra fifteen minutes to prepare, but when the place is BYOB and you go with good company the time won't drag. Even though it isn't the best Thai out there, we enjoyed our meals and the ambiance. We will certainly return at some point. We've returned twice since then to confirm that spicy level three is above my spicy zone. The chocolate soufflé should be ordered in advance since it takes 30 minutes. read more

We ordered take out and received good portions of noodles, chicken, peppers, mushrooms, and other mixed veggies. You're also able to choose your spice level. Though I love spice, my tolerance to it is low, so I went with level 1 while my date went with 2. There was definitely a difference in spice level and we were both satisfied with our choices. First time trying dim sum and I'm so glad we decided to do so. It was delicious! Our takeout order came with six pieces and each one was packed with flavor. After all the fees and charges I learned they partner with DoorDash for deliveries. The original estimated delivery time was 6:24pm it's 7:15pm and my food has not yet arrived. Tonight is my first time ordering from here and I don't think I'll be repeating the experience. I ordered the Dim Sum, which was cold upon delivery and so not particularly appetizing, Tom Yum Koong, scallops salad, spring rolls, and green curry. The Tom yum koong had an odd flavor that I couldn't identify but I did not like it. Usually I find Tom yum to have a bright, clear flavor, and this was dark and strange tasting. The spring rolls were probably my favorite item, not greasy with a nice crunch and packed full. The scallops salad was extremely tasty, the scallops had that wonderful grilled flavor but my enthusiasm for this dish was somewhat soured by my experience with the green curry. I ordered the green curry with tofu and vegetables and there was just a giant chunk of tofu in it. While stirring the curry and trying to break up the tofu, a hair popped up out of it. I also love their fired calamari which I know it might be typical food that you can find it anywhere BUT trust me it is really good here! . . Their lunch specials are truly blessing and inexpensive! Unfortunately I didn't order it spicy enough (dummy), but it tasted delicious. The vegetables were done very well (not overcooked) and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. My co-workers had the PAD KRA PAO with Chicken and the Thai Essence Fried Rice. Both seemed to enjoy their meal as much as I did. BIG fan of their Thai Iced Tea! Located right on Franklin Avenue, in the heart of Nutley, Thai Essence stands out. I met up with a friend there and the place was half-packed at 6 p.m. on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately, at the smallest table they had (when there was a table for two right next to us that was larger - made no sense). The food was good. I had Chicken Satay as an appetizer and the Sauted Eggplant with Chicken as my main dish. For dessert, Carmelized Bananas with Ginger Ice Cream. The Chicken Satay was delish and the dipping sauces were unbelievable. The chicken was barbequed to perfection. The Sauted Eggplant was good as well. Very tantalizing to the tongue. The dessert had my tongue confused. Every time I would take a spoon of the ice cream, it was so different every taste. By the time we left, the place was packed. Word must have gotten around .... My favorite dish is the drunken noodles from here. I get a spice level 2 and it's just the right amount of spice for me. They give pretty generous servings, even for the lunch specials (which comes with soup/salad). I love coming here for their dessert too. I always try to leave room for their chocolate soufflé. Their creme brûlée is really great too and comes with a few berries on top. You have to order the soufflé when you get your meal or like halfway through it because they need time to make it. Pricing isn't the worst. I will say they can't beat Topaz Thai's huge Thai iced teas for $3 lol read more

We normally order from this place and the food is good. But... Today it was horrible all around. Well... Where do I start. Waiter was rude, which was not normal. Then as the salad comes out my boss had a HUGE fly embedded in it(alive). The waiters response was "oh it must have flew in there" then he picked up the fly with a napkin and left the salad on the table. He then realized it and picked up the plate then.... as we were deciding whether we walk out or stay and give him one more chance. He spills 2 cups of soda on us.
