It was our favorite go to when we lived in Bloomfield and when we moved 30 minutes away we would still drive down to see family and go for dinner or pick up to take home. I was in the area looking for places to eat. Came across this Thai place since Thai food sounded good in the moment. My friend is not too familiar with Thai food so for appetizer I got us the... The Combo Platter Assorted appetizers platter :Chicken Satay, Spring Roll, Curry Puff, Fried Calamari, Shrimp Tempura, and Mini Salad Everything was really delicious. It took a while to get but well worth the wait. I also ordered her the Tom Ka which she really enjoyed. That's one of my favorite soups! I also ordered us... Guay Tiew Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle) Stir fried flat rice noodle with onion, bell pepper, and fresh basil in fresh garlic chili and basil sauce That is also one of my favorite dishes. It was nice and wet, I always get disappointed when I get this dish with dry noodles. It was also nice and hot when served. I wish it was a little bit more spicy but my friend found the heat perfect. This restaurant is a hidden gem in Bloomfield! The staff is very friendly and it's a nice cozy restaurant. For the food we ordered a few things for the table: Curry Puffs, Chicken Satay, and Calamari. Curry Puffs - omg, the puff pastry?? SO DELICIOUS. Melt in your mouth quality and the inside is a mixture of potato and onions with curry powder. I would come back just to order these again. TIP: the puffs are good on their own but it's a different taste when you dip it in the cucumber sauce. Try it both ways! Chicken Satay - a good staple Thai dish. Almost always get this when we go here. Calamari - loved this dish! The calamari was very fresh and dipped in the sweet and spicy sauce - match made in heaven. I also really liked that the calamari did not have too much breading. For my entree, I ordered the Guay Tiew Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle). This dish has so much flavor and seasoning in it! It is on the spicy side (so pairs well with thai iced tea) but the noodles are always really fresh and the seasoning is always on point. Not Pictured: Thai Iced Tea and Sticky Rice with Peaches. Thai Iced Tea was nice and sweet (also did not taste powdery at all, so you can tell it's freshly made). For dessert I got the sticky rice with peaches (since mango was out of season). I wish I remembered to take a picture but I ate it too fast LOL. As far as this dessert goes, I haven't found any other local spots that make it as good as here! I love their style of pad thai. I wouldn't say it was Thai style made, more of a Malaysian styled pad thai. Lighter in color, more garlic and tangy not sweet at all. But I actually don't mind it at all. Reminds me of a few Malaysian places I used to frequent. Their appetizers are pretty typical ranging from spring rolls to curry puffs. Their noodle dishes haven't disappointed me as of yet but still, not really true to Thai styled. But overall pretty delicious and will continue as my go to spot when craving Asian food that isn't chinese food. read more

I experience good customer service during my visit to Brookside Thai Restaurant. Curious about Vegan options (largely due to so many Vegetarian options), I find the menu full of Vegan/Veganizable options! I order the Pad Med Ma-Moung, Spring Rolls, and Chive Slices. Every bite of every portion of the meal is so good, so tasty! The appetizers are enough reason to visit the eatery; the Chive Slices are crunchy and sweet, tastier to me without the sauce; the Spring Rolls taste as equally good with or without the accompanying sauce largely due to the Black Pepper. The Pad Med Ma-Moung is good all around though the sauce heavily complements every ingredient. Even so, the overall meal is very filling, find no surprise if you have leftovers. The interior is nice, quaint, and the environment during my visit is very friendly. read more

I hate to give this place a low rating because I used to love going here, but in the last few years, I have been disappointed a few times.... I have to say I used to love eating there bc their food is tasty and they used fresh ingredients. But in the last couple of years, they have been disappointing & they raised their price a few times! I understand inflation is high, but it affect all of us, not just restaurant owners. They have increased their prices multiple times (I would say 3x or more) within a very short period. And at times, they would charge customer a higher price than what is listed on the menu! I felt like they just tried to sneak the price increase on their customers (some dishes have been increased by 80-90%!!!) and portion size has been diminishing as well!!! You get smaller and smaller amount of food, for a higher and higher price. That's just greedy. So, I think that is a bit ridiculous and it is getting to expensive to dine there, with worse and worse food. The noodle dishes (no matter which protein choice used to be $8.95 -- and now they are between $12-$16, depending on the protein choice the customer picked. And to top it off, portions have gotten smaller and smaller each time we go, for all of the dishes! Their chef special fish used to be $27-$28, when we first started going there, then it went to $31, and now it is $45 for the special fish. The ingredients are no longer fresh either. Seafood ingredients (fishes and mussels) are not fresh anymore, so they taste bad and have a stinkier smell. I would definitely not recommend ordering any of their seafood dishes anymore. Another time I found a metal strip in my noodle dish, as I chewed it cut my upper gum (it definitely came from those metal scrubbing pads, used to clean pots and pans) I brought it to their attention, and they did offer to not charge me for that one dish, but i still left the restaurant w a terrible experience unfortunately. Overall, I will most likely no longer dine there going forward. There are a few other Thai choices not far from the area. read more

Ordered from this place tonight and it was horrific! Ordered an appetizer and entree, my sister had to convince me to eat it as I was tempted to chuck the whole thing in the garbage. Whole fish was 2 dried pieces of, jasmine rice that I can prepare better. The only edible thing was the sauce for the fish. The people at the restaurant could care less, wanted to know if I wanted to pay market price for the whole fish? I could. Or you can state that on your menu instead of charging 20.00 for pure trash. I tried: Fried Calamari Appetizer: Very good and not heavily fried. Me Krob: very good, sweet & sour crispy noodle w/ shrimp in tamarind sauce. Spring roll apps: Very good Andaman Seafood: Combination of shrimp, calamari, scallops, & salmon w/ clear vermicelli, ginger, mushrooms & mixed vegetables in oyster sauce & chef's special sauce.The broth was amazing, the seafood was tender and perfectly cooked, and there was a good broth to seafood to rice noodle ratio in this dish. Also a nice amount of spice in the broth. Fried banana a la mode: great desert that meets your fruit requirement for the day as well (haha, not really). This can be shared with one or two others. Love BYOB, good prices, and the service was outstanding. Updating my review. This is still my favorite Thai place in my home NJ area. The food is hard to beat, and the prices are really good. Also BYOB. In the timespan of 9 days home to visit, i went with my dad 3 separate times. I think that speaks to how much we like this place. FOOD: Definitely order the steamed muscles for an appetizer, they're pretty hot/spicy but so so good. For entrees, I usually get Pad Thai, which always hits the spot. I've tried their red curry, Panang curry, and Masaman curry. I think the red is the best that I've had there. Their curry dishes are not very thick or creamy, but they are flavorful and yummy. We usually get the watercress dish, but often they're out and use Chinese broccoli instead, but it's still good. Pad Gra Pow and Yum Woon Sen are also quite good, but the Yum Woon Sen is pretty hot. I've also had the Tom Ka soup, which has coconut milk and mushrooms with lime and lemongrass and I was really pleasantly surprised by it. Lots of interesting flavors. Thai iced tea and thai iced coffee are really good here, too. SERVICE: Really good. I think most of the workers are Thai, which makes it feel more authentic. I mentioned in a previous review that I once had a not great experience with the owner/manager, but honestly I've been here so many times and haven't had an issue otherwise. AMBIANCE: Really nice. I dismissed this place years ago thinking they were too heavy handed with the sugar in virtually all their offerings. Today I was surprised to find the best duck salad I can remember. The portion was large and a great balance of sour/fish sauce / sweet and spicy. The special peanut chicken curry was also big and quite spicy, even for me. Came here for a quick lunch a while back. I ordered the yellow curry with chicken and a Pad Cee Ew. I requested both to be mild. I also asked if they had brown rice but they only had white rice which I said was fine. The Pad Cee Ew was really good. I love Pad Cee Ew and theirs was delicious, flavorful, and well seasoned. I couldn't stop eating it. My issue was with the yellow curry. I had asked for my food to be mild and it was definitely not mild. I realize that Thai food tends to be on the spicier side and would understand if it had a little punch to it. However this was far from mild and was so spicy that I had trouble eating it. When the waitress finally got around to checking on me, I asked her if they could make it milder. I generally hate sending food back but the curry was basically inedible because I found it so spicy. I'm not a fan of spicy food but I can handle some heat and this was nowhere near mild or even "medium." When she brought it back, it was still on the spicy side but they had added coconut milk to it (and I believe that was the only change) so I was at least able to eat it. I've been to Thai restaurants were the food has a little heat despite asking for it to be mild but this was way overboard. Again, I only went here once and it may have just been a fluke but I thought it was ridiculous that it was so spicy I couldn't even eat it despite my spice tolerance being pretty good. If I'm in the area, I would probably go back for the Pad Cee Ew. It would also be nice if they had brown rice but that's just a personal preference. read more

I went for dinner one night with a friend on a weekday and was surprised to see the amount of people inside. We both ordered a appetizer, spring rolls. Very fresh. Steaming when you bit into it and the sauce had a good spice to it. I decided to go with a mild spice pad Thai. It had such bold flavors and the spice wasn't over powering. She had some sort of flat noodle dish, I can't remember the name, but she loved it. The wait staff didn't kick us out since we were so focused with our conversation. Our go-to Thai place. Love so many of the curries, especially the panang and the green. Will often get their vegetarian options. Prices for those everyday curries are very reasonable. Have also had amazing specials here, including some featuring fish or shrimp, others featuring veggies such as pumpkin. Priced a little more, but not outrageous. BYOB. I had been meaning to try this place after having lived in Bloomfield over the course of 6 years. I finally got there last night with Yelp's newest member Jason V. He was in the mood for Thai and I had this place bookmarked for a long time. We started with the sampler for two. The fried calamari and shrimp tasted fresh. The breading was pretty thick on both, but lightly fried, so neither of those came out overcooked. The spring rolls were good, but the curry puff was the best part of the entire appetizer, and entire meal for that matter. For my entree, I went with the Gang Ped Yang (Sliced roasted duck cooked in red curry, coconut milk with pineapples, tomatoes and fresh basil). They also threw in green grapes as well as the big red ones with the seeds even though they weren't listed in the description, but whatever. It actually kind of worked, and much better than the clearly canned pineapple. What is it with Asian restaurants not using fresh pineapple when that is such a common ingredient in a lot of Asian dishes? For $9.95, I guess I can't complain, except for the fact that the duck was extremely fatty and loaded with cartilage. When they brought the bill they tried to charge us for the Thai iced tea we never received. We also had to ask to have our beer refrigerated and brought to us when we were empty. I'm guessing this place thrives because of its prices. Most entrees run from $9-12. I didn't see anything more expensive than $16, even on the list of specials. So if you're looking for a good bargain on Thai, this is your place. Otherwise, I think there are much better options in the area. read more

There aren't many things that would make me venture all the way to Bloomfield, but Brookside Thai is one of them. I first visited Brookside Thai many moons ago. As is typical of Thai restaurants there are copious vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options which is a big draw for someone like me. The menu is enormous which can be overwhelming but I made it through. I used to always get Pad See Ewe but when I went most recently I got Panang curry and my mom got yellow curry. The wait staff are so accommodating and kind and the restaurant is quiet enough to have a conversation but not so quiet that you feel like everyone can hear you. Your meal can be quick, or you can draw things out by getting both a dessert and appetizer. Parking can be a bit tricky at times, but not too bad. read more

I came here for dinner with a friend on a Saturday night and we both liked this place. We ordered spring rolls and the Thai Salad to start and each ordered Pad Thai as our meal. The spring rolls came with three little rolls cut in half and a dipping sauce - they were good, but nothing extraordinary. The salad was a good size for sharing and came with cucumber, tomato, tofu and was topped with a peanut dressing. I loved the dressing - like I wanted to lick what was left on the plate and will be back for this salad because of the dressing. The Pad Thai was a good portion, but a little light on the chicken. I had to leave before the entree arrived so I got mine to go. I saved it and took it back for a refund the next day. That's how bad it was. And because my craving was not fulfilled and it was late. The pieces of gluten which replaced the chicken were neutrally flavored and soft. The entree we decided upon was the tofu with vegetables, basil, and cashews. It was described on the menu as hard pressed tofu, but it was, in fact, gluten. No matter, as it was very good. Prices were very reasonable here, and the service was good.
