Thai Cafe is under the assumption that because there is not another Thai restaurant in a 2 mile radius, they can provide any level of service and guests will bow down and say Thank You. Sorry, but you are mistaken. Your food may be ok, but your service and attitude of your servers (who have been there for years) is downright abhorrent. We were visiting for more than a decade and were late by 1 minute on one afternoon. And you cannot make an exception? You cannot smile at your clients? You cannot talk politely? After all these years finally came back today and I can tell you the food isn't the same The tom yum soup was so sweet Tomato skins were rubbery you'd have to spit it out Thai bbq chicken and wasn't good A bit dried and way too much spices here n there not evenly marinated Pad see ew with beef was ok but the slices of beef was in baking soda water to softened it so it didn't hold its texture as beef Salted fish fried rice was a bit oily My brother didn't want any of it and of course I couldn't toss them so I took it home to eat Eating it now and had to write an update review of much disappointments I won't be returning to dine here which I'm sad to say but the food isn't where it used to be Very disappointing read more

We've been eating here for almost 10 years as it's the one good Thai restaurant local to us in Irvine. There have been a few instances of below average customer service experiences throughout this time but not enough to deter us from eating here occasionally. Today we came to put in our order in person & was told it would be about 45 mins until it would be ready. We went back to our car to wait & realized our car battery had died. We called triple A & the wait for them to arrive was going to be about 45 minutes too. I went to ask if we could come eat our food inside while we wait for our car to be tended to and was told no because there wouldn't be any seats available. I told them we could wait & was told they couldn't accommodate us. Basically they didn't want to seat us to eat indoors as they were already packing our food up. I offered to pay a fee/ tip for us to sit down and eat & was still denied. We spend over $100 here each time & there was no room to accommodate us? Time to start looking for an alternative Thai restaurant. read more

This Thai place is solid. Ambiance is casual not trendy. Service is good. Very nice but rushed. Located in busy lot with KFC and lots of Asian food and boba tea options. Parking is not a challenge on this side of the lot. This place is free standing towards the Walnut Rd/ corner Jeffrey. Pad Thai and pad see ew were very good. Not spicy. But can ask for spice. The Tom yum soup for being mild was too spicy for me but I'm weak when it comes to spice. I would get no spice next time. We were happy with our meal. The most unauthentic Thai restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Everything is watered down. Also, the papaya salad.... Not sure what kind of papaya they use but it doesn't even taste like papaya. It so hard to chew and it's sliced so fat and wide, it's not even edible. The boat noodle soup... wow really? It says tender beef...the beef is so dry and overcooked, they should call it extra dry beef jerky with no flavor. The cherry on the top to confirm that it's not an authentic Thai restaurant is that they don't even serve sticky rice!!! ??? wtf? This restaurant has consistently been my go to whenever I'm in Irvine craving Thai food. There's four dishes that we always order when we're here and it always delivers. Their papaya salad is fresh and tasty, Tom Yum Noodle Soup always hits the spot, drunken noodle is always tasty, and their chicken pad kra pow is bomb. The only thing is that their weekend menu or presentation of foods seem different in portion size. I highly recommend coming here during the weekday to have their lunch menu and competitive pricing, Service has been better since we frequent it more often and perhaps the employees recognize us but the food I've ordered have always been great read more

My usual go-to Thai restaurant when I'm in Irvine. Have been coming to this place since before the pandemic and for Thai food, it is pretty on point compared to those in the nearby area. I agree that there are likely better Thai restaurants out there but if you'd prefer staying local in the Irvine area, this is the place to go. Prices are moderate and definitely saw the increase due to the recent rise in inflation but generally, the food portions are very generous. If you're looking for some place to fill you up, look no further. I had the Pad Thai, Chicken Fried Rice, and Pad See Ew and they were all hearty and flavorful. I've also tried the Pad Bamie, Chciekn Yellow Curry, and Mix Veggies before and they all hit the spot. I love Asian food as anyone can see by reading through my reviews. My favorite is Thai food. I have a bunch of Thai and Cambodian friends and being around them so much in my young adulthood played a massive role in shaping my palette. I will never rank the other Asian cultural offerings because it genuinely depends on the dish. I frequently visit the 99 Ranch Market (Asian Grocery Store) across the street and for years have seen Thai Cafe in passing but never wanted to stop in. The building was something else at some point in time and it does not jump out to me as a place I should try. Yes, folks, curb appeal is a real thing. I stopped in on a day around 2 weeks ago for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and authenticity of the flavors. I got the Spicy Beef Salad. It was light and refreshing, but it had everything you expect and was delicious. While I was there I noticed that they had Beef Noodle soup. Anyone that knows Thai Boat Noodles will know it's hard to find by its street name "Boat Noodles" and it's even harder to find outside of areas with a heavy Thai population like Long Beach. Much like the Garden Grove, Westminster area with Vietnamese food, Long Beach is the place to be if you want good Thai and Cambodian food options but Thai Cafe represents itself well in Central Irvine. I was excited to try the soup to see how good it was. When it arrived at my table, the smell was amazing, the broth was dark and rustic. There were large tender chunks of beef, thick, delicious noodles, and altogether made up a wonderful bowl of soup that brought back memories of going to Thai Temple early on Saturday mornings or popping around the corner from my home at the time in LB to grab a bowl in a tiny shack. I came here at night because the Thai craving hit and this place didn't disappoint. The flavor was definitely there and I was impressed with the portion size. I was a little shocked that it didn't come with rice but I guess each restaurant goes by their own rules. The service was very mediocre and it felt like our sever was kind of rushing us even though there was still an hour till they closed. The overall vibe was very home-y and cozy. Fantastic small hole in the wall establishment. My parents frequent here often. The usuals are: Papaya salad (not too sour and between mild to medium spice), Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Wonton Soup (Dad's fave), and coconut ice cream (a must for Mom). The one that was too salty was the Chinese broccoli with salted fish (didn't realize that it was salty due to Anchovies -- would not recommend, and will avoid that dish moving forward). Nevertheless, it's still really good and the service is fast and friendly. Parking might be a bit tough, but hopefully you'll be able to snag a spot to try this place out! read more

My friend moved to the neighborhood recently and we both love Thai food so we decided on this restaurant. The inside was nice and clean, we were seated immediately at a window seat and although the restaurant was packed our order was taken immediately and the food was served very quickly. We decided to share Yellow Curry Chicken and Pad Thai with tofu, chicken and shrimp. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The curry sauce was so good, perfect amount of spice and the dish had a lot of chicken in it The Pad Thai was a little low on meat but it was so tasty that in the end it didn't really matter. Our waitress was attentive, refilled water, brought to go boxes and our bill in record time and didn't rush us to leave the restaurant. I think we might have stayed for two hours talking. We had lots of leftovers because the portions were big and we spent $20 each before tip. Although there are so many restaurants in that area to try we will go back to Thai Cafe. read more

I came here with a friend and ordered a yellow curry and pad thai- unfortunately, rice is not included with these dishes and have to be ordered separately, but they give a HUGE amount of rice. The dishes also had very large portions and were soooo good!! I love yellow curry and this one just hits the spot. If you have low spice tolerance, would recommend getting a mild, which still had a small kick (this is coming from someone who thinks hot Cheetos can be pretty spicy). Of all the Thai places we've tried, my son still loves their Pad Thai the best! The sauce is on point, plenty of shrimp and chicken, always comes out piping hot. We are pretty regulars here now because of the pad Thai. The yum woo sen is now my new favorite! It's definitely a must try! It has just the right amount of sour and spice especially for a nice hot day and enough substance to fill you up. The spice levels are pretty high since I can eat spicy and usually get medium spice. Definitely go for mild or no spice if you can't handle the kick. The angel wings and satay are a good staple as well. Wish they had the curried fish cake offered here! read more

We got the fried tofu appetizer, vegetarian fried rice, and eggplant basil dish. I've been to one place where the eggplant dish was too salty. Another place where the food was good but the server lady who's always there and always giving mean vibes, so my friends are too cowardly to say their order was wrong or etc. Here, I didn't really enjoy the fried tofu appetizer but everything else was delicious. If they can make vegetarian fried rice tasty, then I imagine the meat fried rice will be even better. Our server was nice and attentive.
