The staff is SO sweet. I'm a regular; haven't found a Thai place as yummy, clean, and hospitable as this one. Very allergy friendly. Food is always fresh & service is fast. read more

Green chili curry chicken dish with rice was great. I also liked the appetizer rolls with peanut butter sauce read more

I always get their drunken noodle with chicken and extra veggies. It is amazing!! I also love their Thai coffee. It is pretty good for a Thai chain restaurant and super cute inside with a modern romantic ambience. read more

10/10 spot for me. Love everything I have tried (pad Thai, garlic basil, and thai basil). The service is great and the restaurant is clean. I have never once been disappointed! One thing to note is that when you get the chicken pad Thai they will put tofu in it. Unsure if this is normal but each time I get the chicken pad Thai there is always tofu in it. Still my favorite dish there! read more

I've placed the same to-go order many times through the University location and never had any issues. After tonight I don't think I'll be returning to this Rural location. I ordered a Thai Iced Tea and when I got home I realized they gave me a Thai Iced Coffee (good, but not what I ordered). I also ordered the Red Curry as usual, which was also good but more than half the rice was over-cooked and mushy. I got the Coconut Ice Cream w/ Purple Sticky rice as well, and the entire portion of forbidden rice was extremelyy mushy. Never the case on University. Worst of all, I took one bite of the forbidden rice and could immediately taste the styrofoam it was served in (think cherry cough syrup ). Clearly it was placed in the foam when the rice was was too hot. The ridges inside the bottom of the styrofoam melted into a smooth flat surface, which confirmed my suspicion. Still trying to get this taste out of my mouth... I realize you can't always expect the same quality/freshness when ordering to-go, but I order Thai fairly often from numerous places and have never experienced issues like these. Hopefully it doesn't happen often, I'd like to believe my experience was extreme and could have been much better if I dined in... read more

Not bad for a 11 dollar per person meal. The food isn't that spicy (even on medium) Great food for its location read more

The costumer service was not the best when I originally popped in. However, despite the price, the food was amazing and they definitely make up for the lack of costumer service with the abundance of food they give you. I had left overs for days!! read more

As a Tempe retread (my initials are still scratched into several corners on Rural from pavement being poured in 1989 and 90), I am rediscovering a few old favorite places and trying many new opportunities. Last night, Thai Basil had both star earning and star losing moments. The "Gotta have THAI" monkey popped up on my back early yesterday. As the love of my life is out of town for a few days and does not have the same passion for Thai that I do, the monkey's timing was good. Since we are now within Orbit range, I went to my trusty Yelp mobile app and told it to Thai me. Thai Basil struck and away I went. On arriving at 6 PM, there were 5 cars in the lot and on entering, about 20 folks seated at tables enjoying. The restaurant appears to be clean, though the lighting is dim. There is apparently a second seating area that I did not explore, so don't hold me to the customer count. I stood at the door for a moment (in TV terms, a moment is 1 1/2 minutes) and was greeted and seated. The host handed me a menu and walked away. I perused the menu for a minute, closed it and started waiting. 5 minutes passed, and I caught the eye of a server who brought appetizers to a table near mine. She came over and I asked if I could place my order. She nodded and walked behind the bar, tapped what turned out to be my waiter on the shoulder and pointed at me. My waiter turned and waved, then walked into the kitchen. 5 minutes later, he came out with his pad and pen. I ordered Som Tom, the yardstick by which I measure every Thai restaurant, and jasmine rice. I requested that the green beans and shrimp be left off. At the menu's suggestion, I ordered Thai Hot. He wrote down the order and walked away. I was surprised that there was no request for a beverage order. I caught the eye of the server again. She came over and I asked if I could get a glass of water. She nodded and walked behind the bar, tapped my waiter on the shoulder and let him know about my desire for water. He turned and waved, then walked into the kitchen. 5 minutes later, he came out with my Som Tom, rice and a glass of water. He asked if I needed anything else, and when I responded no, he walked away. Som Tom, properly made, should have lime, chile, palm sugar and fish sauce each of which brings tangy, sweet, salty and spicy notes with the crunch of fresh papaya. While the portion size was respectable, 2 cups of salad, the seasoning was totally off. There was no fish sauce or lime that I could detect. The spice came in at a solid 9 (5 makes my nose run, 8 makes my forehead sweat and 10 brings tears to my eyes), but without all the notes, this was a bad karaoke version of what should be a great song. I put my fork down and caught my waiter's eye. He waved, then walked into the kitchen. 5 minutes later, he came to the table and asked if everything was satisfactory. When I replied to the negative, he said he was sorry and walked into the kitchen. A moment later, a lady came to the table and asked about my dissatisfaction. I asked about missing ingredients in the salad. She grabbed a fork and tasted, then she said it was very sweet. She offered to have the order remade. I agreed, and she took the salad to the kitchen, yelling in Thai that it was not right. I nibbled on rice and sipped water while the order was remade. The rice was OK, not too sticky and not too dry. On the second presentation, the lady (who I found out is the manager) asked me to taste this version. I tasted, and it was a saltier version of the original. I could get the sweet, the fish sauce and the spice, but no lime. I asked if I could get some wedges of lime and she said she would take the order back and have it remade. By this point, it had been nearly an hour since I had arrived, so I asked for the order to go. I finished the rice and water while I waited. Instead of bringing the new order out to the table, the manager waved me over to the bar with a go box. She had me taste and again, it was below par. I asked for some lime on the side, only to discover it was juice out of a bottle. I paid my check and proceeded home. For the price, $8.95, the time and the multiple attempts, this Thai Basil is not worth the effort. The contrasts between Thai Basil on University and Thai Basil on Rural are kind of strange. As I have been made aware, there are 5 Thai Basil operations around the Valley...and being an adventurous sort, I will probably try them all. read more

Honestly I don't love Thai food in general the fiancée likes it so this is the one place I don't mind going. The reason is because it's always good. We always get shrimp Thai fried rice and pad Thai. I know I said I don't love Asian food but I do love these two dishes and the service is good too food also comes out fast read more

Thai Basil - Fresh roll item 1 on the appetizers - Thai Near Me - Tempe, Arizona

This Thai Basil location is my favorite restaurant around the ASU campus. I have been eating here for many years and always leave very satisfied. Even on busy nights I have never had to wait long for food (dining in and carrying out). My favorite dishes are the Yellow Curry, Thai Basil and Pad Thai. read more

Pad Thai Beef & Pad Thai Tofu tasted like noodles with a hint of dirt. The meet and tofu tasted like nothing. Pad Pik King Beef was flavorless meat and vegetables with tomato sauce and sugar. Not a sweet sauce just plain sugar. Rama w/Tofu was flavorless vegetables and sugar coated Tofu. Not a sweet sauce just plain sugar. We eat Thai food all the time and this is by far the worst. read more

I come here often, about a couple times a month, and absolutely love it! The men and woman working are always very welcoming and sweet. The food is absolutely delicious and I always have leftovers because the portions are so big. Amazing food, amazing service, and amazing prices! read more

The food here is amazing! I work close to this spot and have driven past several times. Recently, a friend suggested we try it...so glad we did!!! Their lunch menu is reasonably priced and the service is great. You can get in and out quickly and the food is fresh and hot. The first time we ordered pad thai and pad see ewe...so tasty! Today we tried green curry and yellow curry. Delicious! The jasmine rice is fragrant and the coconut base in the curry was just perfect. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the spring rolls are a little mushy inside...probably frozen...but still the added crunch and texture you want! Don't drive past.. stop in! So worth it!!! read more

Lunch time 11-3 pm mon through sat is more wallet friendly. Whenever I go up to ASU to visit my sisters, Thai Basil is the first thing we all agreed about for lunch. Not only, as stated above, is this lunch time friendly, their curry is super yummy. Their lunch portion is smaller than dinners but it is just right. Steamed rice with your choices of curries and meats. They have shrimp, tofu, vegetables, beef, chicken, pork and seafood. So many options, right? I simply can't choose so I always get seafood and steal some chicken or veggies off my sisters' plates. Of course, this meal is not complete if you simply order water. You have got to try their Thai Iced Tea; you can share this because it does get overwhelming after awhile with the curries. The other nice option is to have hot tea which warms you up and cleanses your palate after a bite of curry. read more

If the waiter brings you new napkins without having to ask, I can totally respect them. It was my 5 y wedding anniversary and I wanted to try a restaurant I'd never been to. Had to get my fill of Thai. Why 3 stars? The appetizer soup was delish, the eggroll that comes with the entreé is yummy, but the eggplant dish I ordered was really bland. Generous for the price, yes, but very bland. (I ordered it mild, not dead.) Please note that the chai tea is not the American-style blended, froathy tea but just tea with a lot of ginger in it. That was good. Maybe one should just stick to appetizers and dessert?? As far as the atmosphere goes, it was memorable. Even on a Saturday, the place is quiet. read more

This place saved my life when I was living in the dorms. I always get the pad thai with chicken and pineapple fried rice with shrimp (medium spice for both). If you decide to order take-out, be prepared to pick it up in 10 minutes because they are SO fast. This place is great if you're extremely hungry and need food immediately. I love their food and always looking forward to returning. read more

Looking for some tasty Thai food? This is a must. I've been coming here for yeeeeaarsssss... since 2009 and I've never had a bad experience. The food has been consistent with every order. My go to is typically the yellow curry with tofu. It is so creamy and has the perfect amount of spice (I get the medium spice level). It pairs well with the white rice. If you come for lunch, it comes with a spring roll. NOICE! The staff are super friendly and always attentive to whatever you need. The food always comes out in a descent amount of time, no matter how busy they are. The place is clean with nice decor and some new wave type music. When I return, I'll definitely order something different to expand my taste selection. read more

This is my fourth time coming here. I always order the curry with either tofu or shrimp, but it's all delicious. The Thai Iced Tea is my favourite beverage here and the staff is always super nice. They are courteous and friendly. I will always stop by if I am in the area. Food comes out fast and piping hot. This place is a must if you like Thai food. read more

Thai Basil - 45. Pad-See-Ew 40. Musaman Curry - Thai Near Me - Tempe, Arizona

Been going here for 5+ years and it's still my go-to Thai place. Everything is delicious, fairly priced, and large portion sizes. If you go for lunch you'll get soup and an egg roll for free. I love the yellow curry, drunken noodles, and spring rolls with tofu, and cheese rolls. Can't talk this place up enough. read more

Decent prices and decent food for lunch special. Staff was friendly. Orders panang curry and the flavor was good and the amount of portion was good except the meat was a tiny portion. I looked a couple of times to make sure, and it could have not have been more than 2 small pieces! The vegetables were done correctly with the right amount of cooked/crisp balance Had mangoes and sticky rice for dessert. Decent but not the best I have had. Would have liked to give better, the staff was nice but the lack of meat portion was damaging. read more

Great food with good vegetarian options! The starter veggie soup was a nice and light surprise. Their steamed and fried tofu were flavorful and well integrated into each dish we ordered. The service was also quick, polite, and thoughtful! Good ambiance and comfy seating as well. read more

Updating to say: I ate in tonight to get some emails sent and other work done on this Sunday and the staff was so friendly!! My go-to place for Thai food, both dine-in and takeout. The pad thai and curry are both really good! I recommend coming for the lunch special and dining in. It's a fun little spot and the prices are fair. Even better, the service is good and the people who work here are really friendly. If you choose to order takeout, make sure that you call the right number. There is another location off University and I have messed up and ordered from them before. The folks at this location were nice enough to cancel the first order and remake it for me. I think this happens to them a lot! Put it in your phone as a contact! You'll thank yourself. read more

Thai Basil - Entrance - Thai Near Me - Tempe, Arizona

Another happy and successful meal with Thai Basil. I am consistently impressed by their yellow curry. Honestly I have no idea how they get it so much thicker than any other Thai place around but man it makes the difference! It's so creamy and delicious. This time around the pad Thai had plenty of sauce and was just delicious as well. We also ordered the Massaman (sweet nut curry) and Tom kah soup, both were delicious Definitely one of the best Thai places in the valley. read more

Best Thai in AZ for sure! Personally, I love the Chicken Panang (peanut) Curry and spring rolls (their peanut sauce is bomb). Great service for sit in or take out. Reasonably priced and good size portions. This is one of my monthly go-tos, lots of healthy and less healthy options and all of them delicious. I've tried several things off the menu and never been disappointed, but I have to say the Tempe locations by ASU are my favorites (the west of Biltmore / Phoenix location isn't as great for service or quality but Tempe kills it every time). read more

I rarely ever write reviews, but Thai Basil on Rural Rd. does not give a hoot about serving bad food to customers, so I feel I must report. I have lived in the neighborhood nearby this location going on 8yrs, do not go here, there are other options close enough. Somehow I forgot past experiences and gave this place another shot in the name of convenience. Go to Smile Thai, or Lemon Grass Cafe instead, or even if you must the other Thai Basil location on Farmer & University; this place sucks and the owner's don't care that they suck. Owner/mgr was rolling napkins and eating out of a tupperware container while I tried to eat my food. When I voiced my displeasure at how greasy my food was she accused me of eating half of it and of not wanting to pay. No attempt to see my side at all. Furthermore, let me just say they dont use real thai chilis cannot cook your tofu to order because they all ready made it in the morning, and they drown your food in soy sauce and grease. read more

Best Thai food in the area... especially the Thai fried rice. Service is great and prices too

This place is amazing, everything is so good especially the green curry and Thai fried rice.

I would avoid this place if you like Thai food. Scratch that. I would avoid this place if you like eating food. Food was very inedible.

I called to place an order and the person who answered hung up on me. So, I called back and he seemed annoyed that I called back, but still took my order: one order of Seafood Fried Rice for carry-out. I gave two stars because the food was ready in 15 minutes as promised, however, the calamari was extremely rubbery (over-cooked) the scallops were slightly undercooked, the dish as a whole was very bland, and service with a smile goes a long way. I guess to a college student it probably tastes great, however, family of foodies will never eat here again. Honestly, I think we're gonna just avoid the ASU area all together. read more

My usual place. It's good and fast. I ordered Thai Basil with Chicken and Tom Yum soup. It was delicious

I was out in Tempe for work and came here for dinner with 15 of my colleagues. Luckily we called ahead and were able to get a couple of tables next to each other and in the back area. The service- super quick! Our waitress was all about the speed and was always fast to refill a drink or get whatever was needed. I'm not a huge Thai fan and my boss ordered a bunch of random food for the table so I'm not 100% on exactly what I ate but I really enjoyed it- especially the spicy soup- goes great over some white rice. read more
