They listened to the notes on the order, as well (asked for a lime or lemon and side of thai chillies in fish sauce and I actually received both!) There was a good protein ratio, but my pork was a little dry :( I also asked for it to be a 4 on the spicy scale, but it wasn't spicy at all. Went here today while in Tempe. I didn't know that this was different from the Thai Basil located by St. Joseph's hospital where I usually go with coworkers when I'm in downtown Phoenix. I could say there was not much difference other than the delicious soup they server you before ordering your meal. I'm a sucker for fried rice so that's what I usually order. I update this review with a heavy heart. I love thé Thaï Basil on Rural, it has never disappointed me. However, this location (university) has missed the mark 1 too many times. I've been coming here for years now and the food is consistent and pretty good. I usually order pad Thai or something noodle based and my fiancé will order something new every time. He's had most of their curries and meat dishes. When it comes to service, it's terrible. The waitstaff is rude and so is the older lady behind the counter. The past couple of times they have been unfriendly and snappy. The first time I let it go because they were busy and it was dinner time. I called ahead for a pickup order and came 5 minutes later than the time they stated. Upon arriving, the cashier gave me a check and after I tipped her she said I had to wait an additional 15 minutes. She said they hadn't even started it and was dismissive. She told me to wait by the door. Instead, I told her I'd wait in my car so I wasn't in the way. As for yesterday's order, same issue. The waitstaff and cashier were snappy and aggressively rude during pickup. They don't even say hi back, they demand to know your order and have an attitude. They need to work on their communication skills. The lack of friendly gestures is off-putting. We definitely won't be back, there are many Thai restaurants in the area that are inviting and friendly. Our food came out about 5 minutes later piping hot and delicious. WOW! Our waiter brought me some diced up Thai chilies because I wanted my food super spicy. They were so good. 2nd visit here and it was even better than the 1st time. Tried their Fresh Rolls this time for a starter and we were so glad we did. The rice paper that they were wrapped in was so fresh and perfectly done. My wife loves their Tom Kha soup so much that she ordered that for her entree. It was so much soup that she still had leftovers... and they heat up almost as good and tasty as the first time. Their Tom Kha is made with a rich coconut milk broth with galanga root, lemon grass, lime juice and onions. My wife orders it without the cilantro, while I like it with cilantro. And now we come to the part of my review where I mention the MUST ORDER dish for you... It is so awesome that they named their entire restaurant after it. If you are playing along at home, you guessed right, the dish is called... THAI BASIL!!! It is so wonderful and has so many subtle flavors that make it hard to put your fork down. It is served sauteed in garlic sauce with bamboo shoots, bell peppers and mixed vegetables. We order ours with the tofu and it is so well prepared and has such a great texture. One more reason we love Thai Basil... and I am out of here... As vegetarians, we appreciate the fact that they do not put fish sauce or fish paste in any of their dishes.
