Who has ever heard of shrimp scampi or salmon being served with pasta with a red sauce on it? Who would even think of such a thing? But it happened. OK, back to the beginning. When I first read about Teresa's I was intrigued by the idea of a restaurant that started in 1921 as a boarding house for miners. Then I read the Yelp reviews. The positive reviews may outnumber the negative ones but, by and large, the negative ones rang truer. It is worth reading reviews rather than just looking at stars. We went there anyway because of a lack of options. For a resort area Amador County is very lacking in dining options. I think that there have to be real opportunities there. Things actually started pretty well. The service, which had been panned even in some positive reviews, was prompt and friendly. I was disappointed by the selection of wines by the glass, just unidentified (but for one) except as house wines. The minestrone soup was fine even though it needed some salt and pepper put that is ok. Those are easily added and it is better than having too much. The salad was very good though I would have preferred a choice of dressing. Up to this point I was ready to giver three stars, maybe four. Then the entrees arrived. My shrimp (prawns actually or else the most unshrimpiest shrimp ever) were under cooked and Judit's salmon was over cooked to my taste anyway. She did not mind but I sure would have if it were my meal. But then there was this pasta with a red sauce, I honestly could not believe it. I actually like spaghetti with red sauces but they just do not go with seafood which have a much more delicate taste. Think of serving a glass of wine that was half sauvignon blanc and half cabernet sauvignon. Ugh. I pecked at the pasta but my initial amazement was confirmed. Just went last weekend with 4 other couples in Limo for my 50th birthday. Used to go here with my parents 30 years ago........ Positives - still as cute as ever, clean and inviting. - nice staff and pleasant service. - soup and salad are homey and familial. -steaks were cooked correctly. -wines priced fairly Negatives - Bruschetta was served burnt (not just toasted, yuch) - red sauce was seemingly made in convalescent hospital -veal scallopini served here is criminal. Not in a good way. - family style dinner was so disappointing to one of my guests roast beef was fattier than normal and chickn greasier than Popeyes. Pretty sure he snuck to snack bar at Casino. - What wasn't flavorless, was over salted. I'm not a food snob, but I eat out alot as a traveling salesman. Either I'm losing my goddamn mind or this place is a culinary shell of it's former self. When I told a fellow Italian at my local bocce club of my less than stellar experience, he laughed his ass off and said he had eaten there recently, ordered the same thing, Veal Scaloppini, and he thought it was the worst he had ever had in his 65 years of life. I'm no chef but my homespun lamb meal BLEW AWAY the meal I had at Teresa's Place, therefore the updated review. Took a beautiful Friday Autumn drive and accidentally stumbled upon Teresa's. I gave a one star primarily because of the owner-host who had a wonderful and inviting charm. However, if this forum had negative stars, I would start marking in that direction because of the dismal food and service. Our server... She was a seasoned staff person (not a family member that we could discern), with a snotty disposition. It didn't take long to discern that she forgot to take her anti-mood pills before service. Dishes were late and plunked down in a "Well, here you go" fashion. The Minestrone... Mind you this is an "Italian" establishment. But, the soup tasted like something on the Gerson therapy diet (cancer treatment). It was bland and virtually tasteless - akin to a poorly cooked vegetable stock. The Pasta and the sauce... Mushy strands of pasty white noodles and a burned concoction of tomato based mash. I call it mash because I can't bring myself to use the word sauce. Whatever it was - it wasn't sauce. Honestly, you'd be better off picking up a jar of Arrabiata at Trader Joes and having a decent meal at home. Roast Beef... If you enjoy extremely tough and stringy meat - this is the dish for you. In fact, you won't be disappointed because this is an accurate description. In a nutshell - If you're hungry and happen to be passing near Teresa's - go ahead and stop and admire the facade. The place has an incredible mining history. But, do yourself and any guests a favor - ignore your hunger pangs and drive on over to Sutter Creek. You can pick up a pizza at Pizza plus and at least enjoy your dinner. read more

I was invited to see Manny Sosa's Acoustic Melodies performance held here presented by the Amador County Arts Council held in Teresa's Banquet Room. It is the building behind the restaurant. I give the food a 2, the performance added another star to equal 3. The menu they gave me only had pizza on it. Unfortunately I cannot tolerate pizza (somehow this pizza was ok on my tummy lol). They gave me the Chicken pesto instead of the Vegetarian pizza, and since they mistakenly overcharged my credit card by $1, they gave me back $3 in cash ... wow! I guess they have a new pizza oven, the crust was pretty good, but I didn't want all that cheese on it. Manny played a variety of songs for about 2 hours. As a retarded musician (one who tries to play many instruments but just has no clue that I will never ever have talent mhmm) I can't say anything about the music except that it wasn't really the genre I like...well except some of the country tunes ^_^ Anyone playing a guitar and singing really impresses me though. read more

Yeah, um, decent is my overall impression. You are given soup and salad to start. However, when asked what the stock was in the soup (my girlfriend is vegetarian), our waitress said "chicken" then walked off briskly. I mean, seriously, if someone is asking you what the stock is there's probably a reason why. We also weren't given a choice for salad dressing which was weird. However, the Minestrone soup was the bomb. As my girlfriend sat there, eating bread(!), I tried to suppress my joy. Our meals were OK. Very basic, which can be nice. The atmosphere was pretty cosy. What to do on a beautiful Sunday afternoon?? Why take a ride out to Jackson of course. We were a little bummed to know that we would have to make this a quick trip due to the Honey working a night shift that evening. But hell, we can do it. So we started on our trek through Jackson and decided to drive down Jackson Gate, not expecting our fave restaurant to be open at noon on a Sunday. But to our surprise, that famous "Teresa's" neon was on. Could it be??? We slammed on the breaks and I did a "tuck-n-roll" type of maneuver out of the car to give the front doors a pull. Hell's to the yes... they were open. Now we might be in trouble... The Honey and I scurried in and plopped ourselves on a bar stool. I guess they decided to open early for the NFL playoff games. I'm not too big of a football fan but I do love the bartender and his margaritas. So if that meant listening to guys "ooohhh and awwww" for a few hours, that's okay with me. Steve, the bartender was friendly as usual. He said they weren't serving food until their normal operating hours but he wanted to open early for all his regulars who wanted to watch the game. There aren't very many veggie options, the pizza is really good though. The pasta was served cold, the server gave us butter after we had finished the bread, the soup was flavorless. Overall not the best experience but the over all atmosphere was nice. Probably won't be coming back soon. read more

Generally good food served family style, but very old school. By old school I mean the food can be somewhat salty and not fresh tasting. In some dishes they use a lot of canned ingredients (canned mushrooms in the veal scalloppini - why??) The best course was the salad which was bright and fresh. The fried chicken was great (crispy and cooked just right) but quite salty. The prime rib was very thin slices of roast beef that was not what I was expecting. We were able to walk from our bed and breakfast, but even if I stay there again I will not return. read more

We had the pleasure of dining here yesterday during our visit to the area. We loved it. We both ordered the prime rib special. It was perfectly cooked and came with spaghetti with meat sauce. Dinner also came with minestrone and a house salad served family style for the the table, both were delicious and fresh. We also ordered the fried oyster special appetizer and we were so glad we did. The oysters were large and tasted very fresh. The house made cocktail sauce had the right kick to it to. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Driving back from skiing at Kirkwood, we got hungry. Well, duh! We've probably burned 4000 Calories hitting the slopes. Time to stave off any possibility of weight loss and grab some Italian food! We were served by an adorable Italian named Leonardo. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Excuse me! seemed to be his mantra. He recommended a Chianti to go with our meal and it was lovely. Our meal was the mezzo mezzo with spaghetti and ravioli. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked and the sauce was good. Spaghetti and a red sauce are not exactly my type of Italian cuisine so all I can say is good. Now the ravioli were amazing. They were some of the best that I've ever had. The soup was tasty, the bread good, but the wine and ravioli topped it all. We finished it off with a slice of raspberry cheesecake that was also oh, so tasty. This is the worst customer service experience I've ever had!! This business in my opinion should be avoided at all costs. If you read other reviews you will see that terrible customer service has been an issue with this business. In order to post this review I had to give at least one extremely undeserved star. Here's my experience: For my 28th wedding aniversary I ordered 2 prime rib dinners takeout. Upon arrival to pick them up they had no electricity. After 10 to 15 minutes of asking different employees for my dinners, I was still waiting. Finally they brought them out, now setting on the bar counter. I was told that the debit machine was down. Then for another 10 to 15 minutes of asking several employees if I could get the cost of the dinners so I could go to the bank for the cash to pay, I was still waiting, all the while my dinners are on the counter in front of me getting cold. By this time I'm getting angry at being ignored. Upon noticing that a customer who had come in after me was paying his bill I'd had enough and complained why I've been waiting over 20 minutes for service while my dinners are getting cold, but he is being served before me. To my astonishment the OWNER told me to leave and that she will give the dinners to someone who appreciates them, grabbing the dinners to take away. I said that what I don't appreciate is being ignored for over 20 minutes while my dinners are getting cold in front of me and that I'm owed an apology for the way I'm being treated. The owner tells me that I'm making a scene and that she will call the police if I don't leave. Judge for yourselves if this isn't outrageously rude disrespectful customer service toward a customer who had, before all of the above happened, chose this business to help celebrate my 28th wedding aniversary. In my opinion this business doesn't deserve any business if even it's owner choses to behave in such a dasturdly way towards it's customers. Because employees usually reflect the attitudes of the management, and after experiencing the owner's behavior, I'm now not surprised at being ignored by the employees. Pathetic!! read more

The owner (Teresa ?) is a scatter brain. After being a patron for the last 15-18 yrs, I will not sit in the dining room to be ignored and receive TERRIBLE service. I may call in for take out, or sit in the bar, where the Gentleman in their understands Customer SERVICE. I took my Daughter, Son-in-Law (who have all worked in the Restaurant business) and my Grand Daughter there for lunch. First thing we all noticed was that the drinking glasses were all turned down (rim on table surface) ?? The Soup was luke warm, the Pizza was "dropped off" at our table w.o any communication from Teresa. No water refills , no plates for the Pizza & she "couldn't find" the Red Peppers. When I went to get a water pitcher from the servers area, she was on her cellphone and Thanked me "helping out". When we got the bill "dropped off", I left a $100.00 bill, to which she came back with change, but didn't deduct the charge for the food. I didn't realize this is what she did. I left a tip (undeserving of one) and we left the place only to have her follow us out & told me that I didn't pay ?? This was the Only time we felt that she was actually paying attention to us ;) I asked why she didn't give me change from the bill, instead of providing me change for $100 ? She told me that she "Had to get change from the Bar" ? My Daughter has managed a few large restaurants & bars here in Nor-Cal and in San Diego and made a great point. Great food. Great service. A total experience. This Jackson treasure is not just a cozy, classey, place to fill your belly with authentic Italian cuisine. Teresa's Place is historical. You feel like you are somehow transported to a restaurant in Italy. The building and the pictures make you want to know more and if you ask, they will tell. Stories of Great Grandma Teresa and the family recipes make the food taste even better. I come up to Jackson a lot for business and the whole drive up I'm dreaming of my meal to come. My mom and I went wine tasting near by and ended the day with a meal at Teresa's. She enjoyed the huge fireplace and the shrimp. Cozy bar, great wine and beer selection. I have been to this establishment twice now and had heard nice things about it. Unfortunately, both times, the food was horrible. The soup was bland and mushy, the salad dressing was very vinegary and watery, and and the entrees were very small and bland. I had the filet mignon special. It was definitely not a filet mignon, it was a small, cheap cut of steak, smothered in a sauce. The pasta that accompanied it was watery and overcooked. I paid $27 for it. My fellow diners, had the swordfish special, which was dry and boring, and the shrimp scampi which was swimming in a watery bath with some seasoning floating in it. None of these meals were worth the price we paid. The service was incredibly slow. We were there on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm, and the place was empty. There was no reason for the slow service. I find it unfortunate, because this place has a long history and has adorable atmosphere. I fear that if they don't start to produce a higher quality meal, and better service people won't return. In all honesty, I feel like Denny's or IHop would have provided us a better tasting meal. I'm sorry to say, that all three of us agreed that we won't be coming back to Teresa's Place. read more

Come here. It is a pretty good spot, I think I just ordered incorrectly for what I wanted. I got the cantalonni (spelling?) shells filled with meat. Too much meat and not enough sauce and shells. However the soup and salad were super tasty. The service was also pretty dang good too! The atmosphere is really what you come here for though, quaint and intimate. There are many pluses and some minius with Teresa's. The ambiance of Teresa's is very pleasant. It is a throwback to a 50's Italian American restaurant. Our visit was on a Monday night and although we had reservations, the place was busy but not full. We sat a while before we got our menus, water, and bread. I saw only one waitress so the slow service probably was due to an understaff problem. Finally she came and took our order and brought our wine. I thought that the wine list with local wines by the glass was great. The first course, minestrone soup, look a long time in coming. It was a pretty large bowl of minestrone with a lot of veggies and was quite good. There were two types of bread on the table. I liked to crispy thin bread a lot. The next couse, salad, took about as long as the soup. It was a typical Italian salad with thousand island dressing, beans, carrots etc. Our entree was veal parmasan which we agreed was very well done. The pasta side dish was overdone to our taste. Too bad because the meat sauce was pretty good. We arrived at 6:30 and didn't finish dinner until about 8:15. This was due to the slow service and the rate the food came out of the kitchen. If you are not in a rush this place is great. A repeat visit to Teresa's will be in our plans when we get back to Jackson. Hopefully the serving problems will be a little smoother then. read more

The service was not that great, 2 of us ordered cokes and never saw a refill, talk about cheap. The tomato sauce they put on the pasta was horrible. I don't care how long they have been around, I am surprised they still are. The only star I gave them was for the atmosphere.My wife says she'll never pay that much for Italian food if she can make it better than they can. This was our first visit to a Teresa's place in Jackson. We were greeted by the owner and she was very nice. She gave us a short history of the restaurant and her family that immigrated to the US from Italy. It was a very nice in the beginning, but it ended there. After we were seated we waited at least 10 minutes before our server, Joanne came to the table. When she showed up at the table, she said OK what are we having? I asked her if we could get some drinks first. She said we will do it all at the same time very abruptly. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks. In the meantime another couple showed up and she was very pleasant to them, saying in a very nice uplifting tone how are you all tonight? From that point forward that table got everything before we did and they ended up even leaving before us. They got their drinks, their soup and salad and their main course before we did. She never ever came back to ask us how our meal was or if we wanted another drink. The food was pretty good but the service was awful. If you ever go there and you get Joanne as your waitress, request somebody different. The two stars were for the service not the food. read more
