This is my favorite restaurant of all time. I'm very sad today because it's Mother's Day and I've made it a tradition to drive here and spend the day admiring the beauty around and the end on a perfect note my eating here with my mom and girls. The whole family is always working which adds an even sweeter more authentic feel to the place and I just love it. I guess we'll just have to postpone until all of this is over. We were visiting Jackson and chose this restaurant out of the hotel information. Found the necessary handicap parking immediately in front of the place and with every step I fell more in love. The hostess was lovely and seated us in one of several small and intimate rooms. Minestrone was unlike anything in a can and was a delicious beginner for our meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the spaghetti with bolognese but my husband's linguini with clam sauce was out of this world! Happy we're taking leftovers home. Service was good. We have been coming to Teresa's - literally - for my entire life. As a child, my parents loved to travel to the Gold Rush Country; they preferred Buscaglias, but sometimes went to Teresa's. My husband and I have been returning to Teresa's for the last 31 years. Dinner there is always something we look forward to. Very fond memories there, the atmosphere is totally old school which we love. It's a shame to see so many old time favorite restaurants fall to the pressure to "update" and change their interiors to cold, industrial, trendy styles. The food was always dependable; not spectacular, but hey, this is family style dining, and you'd expect to find comfortable homey food here, not 5 star fancy cuisine. This spring we made our annual trip there, looking forward to dining at Teresa's. I called ahead and made a reservation as on a Friday I knew they'd be busy. We were running about 15 minutes late, but I called to let them know and that said "no problem". We were travelling with our dogs in our RV, and had them in the car with us, sightseeing; Teresa's the last stop before heading back to the RV park in Columbia. We picked a spot in front of the restaurant and parked there, where we could step outside from time to time to check on them. Went inside and were greeted by an extremely grumpy hostess; older lady; which is not an issue for me because I'm older too! She lectured us for being SO LATE they were going to give away our table! I was apologetic, said I'd called, said how much we loved the place, she said not a word. Took us to our tiny table in a cramped back hallway, passing many empty tables. Within about 5 minutes, she came storming back to our table, saying "do you have a black HHR parked in front? You have to MOVE, that's handicapped parking". (It was not marked in any way.) We were so embarassed; we said we had our dogs with us, why we picked the place. She just told us "you've got to move it NOW". The couple at the next table was leaving and told my husband "come with us, we're leaving and we're parked in the very first stall in the parking lot". Finally we were ready to try and enjoy our dinner but we were not having any fun at all. I remarked again to the hostess how much we loved the place; and to the server; no one seemed to care at all. My husband ordered lasagne, which he said was good. I ordered the fried chicken, which others have said was terrible, and it certainly was! Super dry, no flavor at all. All of the family style items were delicious though, the salads were beautiful with lots of goodies in them; soup was hearty; bread fresh; nice wine list. In spite of that, we will probably not go back. Maybe they've gotten complacent since their biggest competition, Buscaglia's, burned down some years ago; maybe they only want to cater to locals. Nice setting; Bad food. If you've been to some decent Italian restaurants you'll understand that Teresa's really doesn't understand Italian cooking. I had Linguine with clams. It was swimming in cream; you could have floated a rubber ducky on it. In there somewhere were canned clams. And, of course, the pasta was overcooked. This was almost beyond ignorance. It was a lack of respect for the food. If I hadn't been with polite company who took me there I would have said something. I ate a few bites and put it aside. All dishes come with soup and salad. The soup looked great, but guess what, it was sort of dead in flavor but with an after taste. The salad was fresh. The dressing was Thousand Island, i.e. mayo and ketchup. No olive oil. Big crowd in the banquet room for lunch and I thought the staff did a great job, friendly and available. However the food was not anything to brag about. Served family style, we had minestrone soup to start. It was ok but did not have the vegetable pieces you'd expect. The chicken marsala was basically just a grilled chicken breast, very moist and good, but no marsala sauce to speak of. The spaghetti bolonese was okay. The sourdough bread came out hot and with butter. The salad was what you could get at Safeway in a bag, brown pieces and all. Not very appetizing. The salad dressing was good. There are many italian places in Amador County and this is a favorite of the locals. I'll have to try again with a small group and try something else. read more

Pleasantly surprised--it's Not schlock country Italian, but quality food and service!

I can't imagine why anyone would eat here. It has a slight old-house architectural charm, and the history is fascinating, but everything else is poor or worse. The food is barely OK, and not cheap. The minestrone is terrible. The salad is iceberg, and they only serve a sickening Thousand Island dressing they inexplicably call Italian. The service is surly. But what really frosted me was, they added a whopping "large group" tip to our bills (we were a party of 3), didn't mention it, then gave us receipts to sign that had a blank for tipping! In other words, they hoped we wouldn't notice the original tip and would be tricked into tipping twice! To me, that's just immoral. Just northwest of Jackson is String's--OK, it's a chain, but it's friendly, lively, much less money, with better food and bigger portions. Go there instead. read more

My boyfriend took me out to Teresa's for Valentine's Day on 2-14-2015. We had made a reservation for 7:30 pm. We arrived at 7:30 sharp and the place was packed. We were told that we they could not seat us for 15 minutes. Momentarily, a couple who was seated next to the big fireplace was greeted by a waitress and motioned to follow her to their table. We asked the gentleman at the register if we could sit and wait at the table next to the fireplace until our table was available, and he said yes. After waiting for about 10 minutes a waitress stopped by and asked if we would like to stay at this table next to the fireplace for our dinner. We said, "yes, that would be great!" We received our menus, and 2 glasses of water and sourdough bread and butter, My boyfriend John had been to Theresa's 3 or 4 times before with friends and had ordered pizza which he said each time that was excellent. John decided on Filet Mignon and I Raviolis. We waited about 20 minutes before the waitress came to our table to take our order. The Minestrone soup came about 5 minutes which was very good. The salad followed about 15 minutes later. We then waited over 30 minutes for our entrees. We overheard the 2 couples sitting next to us complain about how slow the service was. They proceeding to get up and leave after only receiving soup and salad. We should have followed their lead.John said he never had such bad service here. The Filet Mignon was very small and came with a Spaghetti side dish that was very bland. My Raviolis were very bland and only slightly warm. The waitress only apologized once for the lack of service and asked how our meal was towards the end of the meal. We told her we were never coming back due to terrible service, small portions and high pricing ($27.00 Steak the size of a small potato!!) We only received a $7.00 discount which was a rip off!! We felt that Teresa's Place should of anticipated scheduling enough staff to provide excellent customer service to their customers on a busy night like Valentine's Day. i don't think Teresa's got much right last night. They had overbooked, so we were seated more than half an hour after our reservation. The "minestrone" was a broth with finely julienned carrots and celery. No pasta, potatoes, meat, beans or anything else that define minestrone. The salad was served with a brim-full bowl of dressing to the side which, predictably, spilled onto the table. The mess remained throughout the meal. The calamari appetizer was tough, but not the worst I've ever had. The pasta sauce was unpleasant, and few at the table ate more than a bite. The server never inquired about the large amounts of uneaten soup and salad. The prime rib was good, though. Two of the people in our party had wheat allergies - one chose to play it safe and order nothing that was likely to cause problems. The other asked for pork cutlets cooked without breading and no croutons in the salad. The server first returned saying they couldn't cook the pork that way, so the person selected another option. The served came back and said they could cook the pork as requested, to which the diner said either entree would be fine. The pork arrived with breading on the plate. When the server was flagged down, she said "but they said they scraped it all off." Clearly the server and the cooks are unschooled about food allergies. This place was recommended to us by a local. We walked in expecting to get a slightly overpriced plate of Pasta. Little did we know what we were about to experience. The staff was typical of a small town, family-owned restaurant - sweet and chatty. Even before we ordered we got a basket of yummy bread and some veggies in cocktail sauce. We ordered our plates of Pasta, but then the server brought out some salad and the yummiest bowl of minestrone soup I've ever had. At fist I thought - this must be a scam. They put it in front of you - and if you eat it - they'll charge you extra. Just like the liquor bottles in Hotel room minibars. We were too hungry and famished to care though. We finally got our Chicken Parmesan and Cajun stew. Both are simple dishes, but were cooked with unique flavors. We gobbled down the dishes with some ravioli and spaghetti which was served separately. I really like the idea of serving the pasta aside from the entree dish - so you can choose what kind of pasta you want to with the dish. Being used to prices in the bay area - we were shocked to see our bill - $32.09. This was like icing on the cake. $32 for a 4-course meal (sure we didn't get drinks or dessert), but that is a steal. This restaurant gave me the feeling of what a true home-cooked Italian meal must be like. The restaurant's in San Francisco's North Beach aren't Italian in my mind any more. If you're skiing in Kirkwood - I highly recommend driving down the 88 to Jackson for a meal at Teresa's ! read more

This place was recommended to my husband and I by a local winery and we were happy because there really aren't a lot of places to choose from in the Amador area! We came for dinner on Saturday night and had an amazing experience! The people were super friendly, and the food was so good! I had the frutti di mare special and my husband had veal Parmesan. My entree was so good! Loaded with seafood and the sauce was amazing! I wasn't able to finish it though because of the wonderful minestrone soup and delicious salad that came out beforehand. We were so very full! I wish we were able to enjoy one of the desserts as they looked wonderful, but we were stuffed. This will definitely be our go-to restaurant when we are in the area! read more

Went last night. Waited at hostess station for awhile for a table. Hostess was gone but bartender was present. He did not greet us all nor say the hostess is busy but will be with you momentarily. We were then escorted to our table by a friendly hostess. Waitress came to our table. Not a smile was seen the entire time. We placed our order. The food was not good. Veal Marsala tasted like wine was poured on it right before served. Veal Parmigiana was dry barely any sauce. All side pasta dishes had watery pasta and barely any sauce. Waitress never came to check on us. Only redeeming quality was our bus boy. He was very attentive with water and plate clearing. This used to be a favorite restaurant of ours but we have lost faith. read more

Teresa's is a Jackson institution that does not rest on it's laurels. This is evident with the recent-ish (past five years or so) installation of a pizza oven! Reservations will make your visit easier as they can get pretty busy. Enjoy the ambiance of a very old building that used to feed miners back in the day. I can say with confidence that at least 75% (if not more) of the people who work here are family - this is a family business. Your waitress will likely be one of the more experienced women whom have worked there quite a while and know this place and the menu like the back of their hand. They are not vapid air-headed minimum wage 20-somethings who have never eaten anything off of the menu. These ladies know their business and therefore at times you may have to adjust to the old fashioned "Italian Aunt" style of service. The bar is excellent.... try the bloody mary. The food is lovely... Start with an antipasto... tangy and cold it's very yum! For heavy comfort food have the lasagne (you can thank me later). For less heavy fair try the Bistecca alla Teresa. I'll be honest, I've never really enjoyed the spaghetti and sauce that comes as a side with most meals. However, I can honestly say that's my only "dislike" here at Teresa's. Now... here's my five star tip... save room for desert and if you are smart reserve your piece of amaretto cheesecake when you order your meal. They often run out on busy nights and in my book a meal at Teresa's is just not the same without finishing it of with a cup of (decaf) coffee and a slice of amaretto cheesecake. I would also like to point out that I am a local that has been eating at Teresa's for near a decade now. I'm sorry to see some of these negative reviews on here... perhaps they can't handle the "family style" experience or maybe they are just pissed that they can't order from a menu that's all pictures while they sit on their butt in a drive-thru. read more

We live in Sacramento, and had family visiting us from southern California. We decided to do some of the wineries in the foothills, then stop at Teresa's Place for dinner. The atmosphere is charming and eclectic, warm and inviting. The decor had little seasonal touches which added to the ambiance. We began our evening in the bar, which is proudly dedicated to the family's loving grandfather "Paul". For our meal we sat outside on the patio underneath a beautiful old fig tree and grapevine arbor. The food was delicious! The portions were generous, everyone ended up taking home a doggie bag. Have enjoyed Teresa's many times over the years.Its not the best or most authentic Italian food , but the atmosphere helps to make an enjoyable experience. However, last Saturday night a group of us spent the the evening there for a birthday celebration. So the waitress was great. Bread, soup, salad , OK. But two of us had the pesto pasta. It was served with macaroni noodles not linguine! (Horrible). Turns out all of our meals ,the pasta was macaroni, and each was almost tasteless. This being about the third time at Teresa's and ordering pesto pasta, each time totally different,and progressively tasteless. To bad, sad. One goes out to dine and spend a significant amount of money to hopefully enjoy a special occasion,and one would expect the meal to match the expectation. read more

This place used to be great, the atmosphere still is, but the food is average if not sub-par. I believe in giving a place the benefit of the doubt, but after eating here three times in the past year, all meals were, "M-e-h" Meh! One of these meals was Fetticini Alfrado, perhaps the simplist Italian dish to make, it's hard to screw up, but theirs had no flavor, maybe they forgot the pinch of nutmeg and the romano cheese? Anyway, I want to like this place, but I've had better sauce out of a can and the raviolis tasted like they were stuffed with plain bread crumbs, instead of cheese, spinach, meat and herbs. I've had the raviolis, fetticini alfrado and spagetti and the sauce always disappoints, so sad, I used to love this place! read more

I ate here once. The food tasted like...nothing. There was literally no taste at all. They said they didn't use any salt because so many old people ate there. Whaaaat? 9 hungry women...Went by Teresa's the day before to check it out and made reservations for the next night. It looks small and quaint form the outside but once inside...it is quite large. We walekd in at our reservation time and were seated right away. Wow....were they crowded. It was a 3 day weekend...I have to say we saw one waiter and a few busboys and the staff were helping. Leo out waiter was great...friendly and helpful and made us laugh. We left about 1.5 hours later full and happy. The time went by fast..we talked and ate and enjoyed every minute. From steak to pizza to chicken to prime rib and pasta...very good and well prepared. Family style so eveyone gets soup and salad and bread. The food was tasty and portions large. We all took some home with us...Family owned for many years Teresa's will see us again next time we are visiting Jackson. read more

When we arrived we were greeted by Leo, a young man who knows how to treat people and has a wonderful sense of humor. It was Sunday night and we weren't having any luck finding a nice place for dinner. Somehow, we had driven through the heart of Jackson and were now in a non-commercial area heading back to hwy 49. Fog had begun to set in, but through it we saw this old freestanding building welcoming us inside. Teresa's Place has been family run since 1921 and you can just feel, and taste, the pride in their heritage. The restaurant was charming and comfortable. And the service was wonderfully helpful. Most importantly, the food was delicious. The sauces and pasta were the real thing. BEST minestrone ever! A very generous and creative antipasto salad. We even opted for ice cream - which was served with style. Great selection of local wines and craft beer complimented the meal. And the price was a bargan!! A real treat!! read more

My friend Joe and I were winding our way over to the Jackson Rancheria Casino from Sacramento when we took a wrong turn down North Main and found ourselves passing by a sign that said "Authentic Italian Food". Now Joe, having roots in northen Italy and being a great cook himself, took quick notice of the sign and we shuffled in, hoping for the best. It was 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon and the bartender kindly opened the front door for us, as he shuffled past carrying the sandwich board announcing that they were open for dinner (Sunday dinner hours, 2-8). We passed through the very homey, quaint, and comfortable bar area back to one of two very well-laid-out dining rooms. Now, this dining room, with the sun shining in from the garden, and the photos showing the family and owners, and the light jazz playing in the background and the warm and wooden-laden ambience was a very welcoming atmosphere that made us both immediately very comfortable and ready to eat whatever fare they were about to present. Our server started us with a 14.00 bottle of local Amador County bottle of house Zin. Tasty and inexpensive and a great compliment to the homemade Minestrone Soup and starter house salad, served with a good Thousand Island dressing. This is served with a fresh bread and an antipasti made of vegetables marinated in tomato sauce and vinegar...yum. We followed all of that with shared entrees of Lasagna with Bolognese sauce and home-made ravioli stuffed with pesto and covered with a wonderful meat sauce. The portions were large enough that we ate the same meal, again, later in the day. Overall, a wonderful experience that we can't wait to enjoy again. Bravo, Teresa's Place for a job well-done!! I confess: I'm a total homer and I love Teresa's. I live in Denver now and I often find myself daydreaming of the food in this place. My family has been going to Teresa's since I was a little boy, and I plan on taking my children there one day. The food is excellent and traditional; and the atmosphere is quaint, charming, and comfortable. The minestrone is out of this world. Next time you visit, make sure to ask about the story of how the great food in this eatery got them a private introduction to the Pope - seriously.
