Upon arriving, the cafe had such a cold and unwelcoming feeling. Pastries were displayed poorly.. 1 of each pastry displayed with the box of pastries visibly sitting on the counter as the employees were actively cleaning 2 hours before closing. Seeing the box of pastries, likely sourced from somewhere else was kind of a turn-off for me. Walking in here took me back to what it felt like when you walk into a tattoo & piercing shop on haight street lol. After receiving what felt like annoyed glares, we took a moment to look at the menu, and noticed they had juices and decided to try that out. However, I didn't realize they don't juice your drink on the spot. Instead it comes from a giant container where they've already juiced it. For some reason that was bummer for me since I spent $7 on this but I also acknowledge the juicing is a lot of work, so I understand why this is done in advance. I scored it quite low as it just felt strangely unhappy in there for some reason.. but the juice that I ordered was good. Maybe I could try this spot again, I will just hope that last Sunday was a bad day for the employees and that other days are usually better..

Tuscan Avocado Toast

What a fun spot to meet for coffee in Walnut Creek. Love experiencing new spots in the East Bay to connect to WiFi, have meetings, and cozy up on the laptop to get work done. Tellus Coffee has a nice space upon entry but also an even more intimate cool spot towards the back of the shop (with outlets too!) to meet/work. I ordered a Tuscan Avo Toast ($12) that came with sliced tomatoes and a drizzle of balsamic fig reduction, lemon ricotta, avocado, and micro greens. Yum! The use of the lemon ricotta was chef's kiss. I also ordered a cold brew (Ethiopian light roast), and noticed a few items I would for sure come back for: the juice/smoothie menu, the Argentinian empanadas, and the White Chocolate mocha. Yum! I noticed there are puppucino cups & steamers for kiddos! Metered street parking can be found, although N Main is quite the busy street so allow a few additional minutes to find a spot.

Super cute cafe! I absolutely love the decor and the vibe. Staff was friendly and you can see everything they're making behind the counter. I tried the mushroom empanada, chicken empanada and my husband got the cold brew. The empanadas were hot, slightly crunchy, and tasty! It came with a side of chimmichurri but it that didnt have much flavor. It's okay though because it didn't really need it! It had a lot of flavor already. My husband said the cold brew was good, strong and not super bitter.

Really loved the interior and service here, it really is such a vibe! Stopped in before work and found street parking easily out front. Was recommended the Burnt Honey latte and went with the recommendation. I've had Burnt Honey lattes before but just wasn't impressed. If you have a sweet tooth, I would recommend you to come here as their drink was on the sweet side. The honey flavor was very subtle, but so sweet. Coffee itself was okay and found my drink to be too watered down for my liking.

Back to Tellus for the five-star coffee and to try more food! But before we get into it, we came back because we met the owner's Mom yesterday in Benicia. Odd? Yes! Awesome? Double yes! Mom told us that Tellus just opened a new location in Danville--which we look forward to trying since my brother lives there. It's about time Danville got a great, non-chain coffee shop! And Mom also told us that her daughter makes all the pastries for Tellus. (I wonder if they sell to Philz? As per my first review of Tellus, the pastries look the same!) So, after visit with Mom, we had to come back to the WC store today. And I FINALLY got the waffles! Hubby had a wild blueberry muffin, and we both had almond milk lavender lattes--half the normal syrup. My waffle is/was a delicious as it looks! Slightly crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. Topped with fresh and sweet strawberries and blueberries, and what tasted like real maple syrup. W's muffin was "better than the average muffin" and he was very satisfied. He didn't give me a bite. In fact, I looked up after splitting the waffle in half, buttering my half, and pouring some syrup on my half, and that muffin was GONE! lol! He did get almost a full have of my waffle, and enjoyed it like I did. (No butter for my Hubby--what?!!) Happy to be back as always--we do like the cozy, speakeasy-style back room. And the friendly staff is always a pleasure.

Steak empanadas

Their steak empanadas are so yummy! Flavor is on point. Also the ambiance is so cozy .

Lovely interior of the business

Out of all the independent owned-and-operated coffee shops in the Walnut Creek (and Contra Costa County) area, I would have to tip my hat to "Tellus Coffee" as they are arguably one of my personal favorites on my list. Located in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek on N. Main Ave and adjacent to Cypress St., this very popular coffee shop has been serving delicious hot & iced beverages dating back to early-2021. And since I had other shopping to do at nearby Broadway Plaza (only a 5-minute walk from here), what better way than to get fueled up on delicious coffee and a bite to eat to start my day. I came here with my lady during the morning of Friday 7/4/2025 at around 9:25am. Since it was a holiday, all street parking did not require payment as we were able to park right across the street. Even though it was a holiday, the business was thriving with customers. The hours are accommodating but don't come too early as they open daily at 8am (9am on Sunday) while closing for the day at 4pm. Before I talk about what's on the inside, the exterior of the building showcases a traditional brick wall design complete with the business name in a very classic green oval trim. As for the interior layout, this place exemplifies what a coffee shop should look like; bright, open, airy, inviting, and quite dazzling with a ton of greenery displayed along the rear wall. The green trim continues along the walls surrounding the coffee bar area while at least a dozen green lights hang from the ceiling. Finally, they offer ample seating complete with leather chairs, loveseats, and booths to truly maximize your coffee tasting experience. Much of the coffee is grown and sourced from around the world; places such as Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, and Indonesia. Here, they specialize in a ton of custom-made lattes (with a nice assortment of syrups), espresso drinks (in hot or iced form), pour overs, loose-leaf teas, juices, and smoothies. And as for the food selection, they have a great variety of pastries, bagels, baked goods and croissants as well as more filling items such as empanadas, waffles, overnight oats, breakfast sandwiches, and avocado toasts. And if you decide on coming later in the day, they also offer traditional sandwiches as well as a nice assortment of beer and wine. After looking at the menu (prior to coming here), I ended up ordering an iced "Brown Sugar Date Latte" complete with their "Avocado Toast". The toast itself uses whole grain Levain bread with a mashed avocado, Harissa red chile paste, chickpeas, sprouts, and pickled onions complete with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. Total cost after tax + tip came to around $25. My drink arrives in just a couple minutes and had the perfect consistency of bitter and sweet. Meanwhile, the avocado toast was made to perfection as every place I've eaten at has their own unique twist on it. Tellus Coffee is no exception as this was above average. My lady even loved her drink/food as she ordered a hot "Cafe Vanilla Latte" and a "Kouign Amann" pastry; think of it as a croissant with strawberry glaze and cream cheese. Overall, this is a legit coffee shop that I highly encourage anyone to try out. Their menu is modern, eclectic, and progressive as many of their food items are exclusively made with ingredients that you don't normally find at your basic coffee house. With exceptional customer service, great tasting coffee & bites, an aesthetically pleasing yet cozy interior, and a perfect location in the heart of Walnut Creek, I am giving "Tellus Coffee" a perfect five star rating.

Mckenna C.

A coffee shop that embodies fall, with its brick walls and surrounding autumn leaves. I ordered a lavender latte with fat free milk - hot of course, to match the fall vibes - and it was amazing. This spot was recommended by a local and the coffee, music, and seating did not disappoint.

Meat Lovers Sandwich
Krysten H.

Great service, good and coffee! Ample amount of seating and parking, loved that there was a back section to eat and conversation with a little bit more privacy. Loved all the food and drink options, staff were all friendly and helpful. Great area to eat and walk around, Will definitely be back.

Espresso and coconut milk macchiato
Felix W.

I got an espresso and a coconut milk macchiato. Both were solid. The espresso had mild acidity, creamy texture, and a good crema layer. More complex flavor profile would have made it even better. 4/5 The coconut milk macchiato added good texture and a touch of sweetness. Depending on your preferences, oat or almond might have been a better match because the espresso is already quite good. 4/5. Would stop by again if in the area.

Golden Chai Latte, Meat Lovers Sandwich
Alyssa C.

Delicious drink and hearty breakfast sandwich! The chai was sweet and flavorful. The sandwich was generous with the bacon and sausage.

Matt G.

Great coffee shop in the heart of Walnut Creek that offers some fire coffee and some delicious food. Got the cold brew coffee and chicken empanadas when we stopped here, and both were delicious. The atmosphere is cool and has a hip vibe. Service was nice and friendly. Highly recommend if your in the area.

Erich L.

Nice coffee shop that serves food like empanadas and more. It's usually very busy and seating can be difficult to find. Coffee is good and the staff are very friendly. Fun independent business. No cash they only take card payments.

Are you bringing back your matcha strawberry on the menu? I haven't seen it in weeks.

Yes! The strawberry matcha is a permanent menu item for us. Sometimes our suppliers do not have strawberries so we’re unable to make the puree. If that happens we always try to substitute with either a blueberry or raspberry.

Do you provide WiFi? Is there space to sit, plug a laptop in and get some work done while enjoying your space?

We provide 2 hours of WiFi. Every table has an outlet you can plug into.

Are you dog friendly?

Hello! The Department of Environmental Health has a law stating that pets are not permitted in any indoor food establishments, although certified service animals are permitted. All animals are welcome on our patio.

Is the cortado served in a clear cup or a mug?

Our default is to serve all coffee in to go cups, however if you're wanting to stay and enjoy please ask for it in a mug and we're happy to do so.

If you close at 5 now, when is your happy hour?

Everyday from 3:30pm-5pm

Will you ever be extending your hours to stay open later again?

Hi Brook, we unfortunately had to cut our hours due to staffing. We're hoping to extend them soon.

Is it student/work friendly?

Hi Kimberly, yes we are work friendly. People often spend their time on their laptops in our shop. Thanks!

Do they have gift cards?

We do! Please come in store to purchase all gift cards.

He ended up ordering an iced turkish coffee with milk. It was hot outside, so I went in to grab some water. Their water container was not only basically empty, but it was also warm. Gross. I decided I would rather pay for a cup of iced water (because in a lot of the places I've been to, they charge for it). I go up to the register and ask if I can buy a plastic cup with iced water. The cashier/pastry cook/barista says, "Water?" and I repeat that I want a cup with iced water. She says, "Ice?" and I say, yes please. She goes right next to where the other barista is and she grab a scoop full of ice and gestures it to me. I'm kind of confused by this point, and it seems like the other barista is too. And then I ask again if I can get it in a plastic cup. Then the other barista points to one of the paper cups next to the warm water container, but then I ask them again if I could please get it in one of the cups they have, (because I wanted to be able to carry it around with a lid). That's when the other barista says, "You're doing too much, but okay." And she passes me the plastic cup, without a lid, acting as if I just asked her for her whole paycheck and half the drinks on the menu. I'm definitely annoyed at this point, but I don't care enough to be rude back. Then she says she's going to fill up the container. So she goes, gets the container to fill it up, and I'm there waiting with my friend in the store. It looks like she's the only barista there, so it keeps taking a little longer for the drink(s) to come out. When she finally comes back with a semi-filled container, I'm conversing with my friend, when she turns sharply and says, "Were you going to order anything??" in a pretty snappy tone, as if I'm only worth giving a plastic cup to if I'm going to order more. We reply that we already ordered, and she goes back to finish drinks that a previous customer had ordered. It's two drinks, and I assume that it took about 12-15 minutes for them to receive what looked like small hot drinks. I say this because these customers were sitting there well before my friend and I arrived, took time to order, and then were waiting for our drinks. After that, we're still waiting while she goes to take orders, and that's when the cashier/pastry cook/barista woman finishes my friends drink... after having stood there FOREVER while the other barista was going in circles. I was shocked to say the least, kind of amused, but also disappointed because these customers drink was about 8-9 bucks, the wait time was about 8-10 minutes, and the drink was disgusting. Actually insane. I don't recommend this place whatsoever. Place looks mid, service was abominable, and the workers look like they hate each other and anyone who asks for a plastic cup with iced water. Do better, and preferably give us back our money for the nasty drink+attitude combo.

Although the location is not prominent, pictures of their beautifully crafted drinks and delicious bánh mì sandwiches have been spreading across different social media platforms. So much so that they have been featured in reporting by several local media outlets. Out of curiosity, I decided to check this spot out with my brother and a couple friends on 08/29/2025. It wasn't busy when we walked in at around noon. A quick glance revealed a space that's tiny but well organized. We were greeted by Thuy, the friendly proprietor of the establishment. Since this was our first visit, it took us a while to figure out what we wanted. In the end, we each got a bánh mì sandwich and a beverage. Pricing was reasonable IMHO (see menu pic). I had the cold cut bánh mì and an iced coffee. I gave half of my sandwich to my brother, and he gave me half of his grilled chicken bánh mì in return. Both sandwiches were delicious! The baguette was excellent. It was crispy on the outside and soft and spongy on the inside. Thuy told me later on that she gets them from Duc Huong Sandwiches, a famed Vietnamese sandwich chain in San Jose. The homemade pâté, cold cuts, and grilled chicken were all delicious, and the produce was very fresh. The iced coffee was very good as well. We chatted with Thuy extensively before and after our meal. She told us she was a banker prior to opening this café. From our conversation, I could tell she takes pride in her work. We were all very impressed by her demeanor and business acumen. Should you find yourself in downtown Walnut Creek, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. A lot about this spot felt unassuming to us. It's a small cottage on the corner that stands out from the taller, more modern apartment buildings around it. There's not much space indoors. All of their seating is outdoors, located next to their outdoor pickup window. It's a little more offbeat than your average coffee spot, but it's really charming. All of this was greatly appreciated, especially since their menu has many options. They had an extensive list of syrup flavors, lattes, pour over coffee, and breakfast sandwiches.
