I struggled with deciding to rate this at a 4 or a 3 so I think I'm going to go with a 4 but consider this a 3.5. To start, the employee working at the cash register was super friendly and gave great suggestions on drinks and food to order based on how sweet we like things or more coffee for we may want things to be. There isn't really any indoor seating space but they did build out into the parking lot with a few picnic tables and chairs for people to stay and eat their food. While we both really enjoyed the food - both of which were recommended by the employee - the coffee was not good at all. Pro: the avocado toast that we ordered had a curried chickpea salad on top and it had a delicious flavor. That was probably my favorite bite! We also shared half order of the blueberry waffle, and it had a type of granola on top that provided some really great textures. The food certainly impressed me. Con: Both of us felt like the coffee had none of the flavor that it was supposed to have (we both ordered the cardamom maple iced latte with macadamia nut milk) and instead, it just tasted like milk. Cute place, love how it's very community driven, and there were a lot of people which lead me to believe it was good. I got the lemon elixir iced. I absolutely love lemon, ginger, turmeric drinks. This would be sooooo good if the water they used didn't taste like it came from a hose. The water quality used in making these drinks is so poor, it compromises the taste. I also got an oat milk latte, iced. Same situation as above - the water tastes like it came from a hose. Tastes very dirty and metallic. We got avocado toast which was great. This is a cute place and not too crowded at 10:30 AM on a Saturday. They work fast. There is also plenty of seating outside with umbrellas. The coffee was pretty pricey but they offer plenty of options. Also, very rare to find coffee shops that offer so many milk options, especially macadamia. Their snacks look yummy too, but we didn't get to try anything this time around. I ordered their maple matcha latte and it was divine. Real matcha too! The bf ordered the strawberry basil lemonade and didn't even share haha. I definitely would come back again and support this small business. Rooted Coffee has been in my bookmarks for quite some time. My visit was on a Sunday afternoon; this was probably the worst time for a sit-down. Parking was a challenge; the wait was about 20 minutes, and there was nowhere to sit. Luckily, Their tiny, mounted tables on the lot are not only adorable but perfect for a quick coffee sit-down. I was so excited to come here on a beautiful Monday afternoon and it was the place to be! So much seating outside and everyone had smiles on their faces. I've tried the matcha & pastries at the Walnut Creek location so I knew I was in for a treat already. The service was awesome and I got my order fairly quickly! My iced matcha latte with oat milk was well made (I'd like to say I'm a matcha connoisseur...hehe) & the GF chocolate chip cookie was awesome. It was nice to sit outside and bask in the sun whilst enjoying my food. Great location in Pleasant Hill. Visited this spot because my friend is gluten free and she enjoys the variety of options! I got the brown sugar latte with oat milk and the espresso was somewhat bitter. I noticed they used Oatly oat milk (I prefer Califa barista milk). I think if the expresso was smoother and they changed milks the latte would be amazing! The Avocado Dream Make it Sunny toast was refreshing, lemony, and the chili flakes added a subtle kick to it. Service was great, staff are extremely friendly & efficient. Finally had a chance to try the Pleasant Hill location with a friend this morning! I had the vanilla mint latte and make it fresh avocado toast. Latte had a nice balance of vanilla and mint. They do not skimp on the avocado and it paired nicely with the balsamic vinaigrette. Friend had green tea and the strawberry chia pudding. I tried some of her pudding, which was very good (also my first time trying chia seeds - they taste a bit like very mini boba). The barista who took my order was friendly and even complimented me on my koala shirt! Only downsides are that space is limited and they close early compared to the WC location. I actually tried to come here one afternoon with another friend and we didn't realized they closed early. I would have taken a star off for closing earlier than WC, but they let us stay outside even though we left around 1:15-1:20 pm. We will be back! read more

I rarely am as disappointed in Yelp guidance than I was at Rooted. I'm not a coffee person, so that probably should have been a deal-killer but I was really looking for a vegan breakfast sandwich or vegan breakfast burrito -- and Rooted was close at hand. First, the good news ... the Oh Mega Donut was fine. Not fabulous, but fine and aligned with my expectations. But the person working the register steered me to the vegan BLT as no breakfast burrito was to be had. It was, without a doubt, the worst sandwich I have literally ever been served (and I am 65+). The bread was lousy, the lettuce not good and the tomato almost invisible. But the real fail was the tempeh bacon. It was gray, cold and literally scary. I tried one bite - and spit it out. I then threw the rest away. Which is where I discovered the not good lettuce and the tiny tomato slice. JUST WOW - literally terrible. I was in my car and decided turning around to complain wasn't worth the trouble. ADVICE - go for the coffee/drinks and desserts or don't go. Maybe the toasts or salads are better - but seriously, I'd stay away from anything other than the drinks and desserts. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. read more

I love this place! I went here with my best friend who is vegan, and it is usually a challenge to find a restaurant where we can both be happy with our orders and the selection. But Rooted Coffee has a great menu, delicious food, and drinks, even for a non-vegan, and the staff are super sweet! and there's just something very cozy about sitting outside at shared picnic tables with the locals in the neighborhood. I came here on rainy day to meet up with a friend to talk and didn't realize that they had NO tables on the inside. We ended up talking outside on the tables but FYI, there's no tables in there! I didn't realize that this place was a vegan place either. HOWEVER, as a non-vegan, it's fine. I got a horchata latte with oatmilk and it was quite tasty! It was expensive though. We ended up talking for a few hours and the workers came out to give us some treats that they would have to throw away anyway. I got some chia seed pudding and overnight oats and the chia pudding thing was AMAZING. Came here one weekend morning recently. It was drizzling a bit and chilly, but my friend and I decided to sit down in their covered seating area to enjoy our coffee and toast. The location is great, with plenty of parking and covered seating around. Pets are allowed and their service is great. I wasn't a fan of the signature drink I tried, the Golden Milk Latte; it had too much turmeric in the mix which made it too strong for me to drink. My friend tried their Cardamom Maple Latte and loved it, so I'll probably try that next time. I also tried their Open Faced Green Goddess which was really good! It's a loaded grilled cheese with provolone cheese, house pesto, baby kale and avocado. YUM! I'll definitely be back to try some of their other items on their menu! read more

Seems to be a very popular coffee place in Pleasant Hill, a lot of people while we were here but plenty of outdoor seating to go around. You get in line to order your food, find a place to sit and they call your name once your food is ready and bring it to you. The guy taking your order was very pleasant and informative about the different coffees. We ordered the vanilla mint latte and brown sugar latte which were average, but the winner was the classic waffle which was amazing. We enjoyed the crispy outer layer but soft in the inside and the ingredients it was made out of just taste healthy. Also, paired with the strawberries and bananas complimented this classic dish. I've now tried both the pleasant hill and Walnut Creek locations. Appreciate the gluten-free options and the food is delicious. Cant go wrong with the omega donut! One thing I will note is the guy taking my order at both locations seemed to be high or a bit clueless and got my to go order wrong. The first time Rooted corrected the issue, the second time I didn't feel like driving all the way back. The line on weekends can also be insanely long at the PH location. read more

Our coffee pilgrimage continues. We chose Rooted because W found the Walnut Creek store on Google. I had to yelp! it, of course, and found the closer Pleasant Hill location. Figured parking would be easier, too. And it was! Ok, so, there was a big ol' line, good sign! We got in the line and started talking to the peeps waiting with us to find out their fav drinks. We quickly learned most people come here for the food--specifically the avocado toast. Ok, I laugh at the avo toast craze, cuz that was a staple made at home as a child some 40-50 YEARS ago. Since I'm sort of on the whole 30 diet right now, I couldn't eat any food made here. But I noticed the parfaits were made with cashew yogurt, and I thought "Yay! I can eat that!" They kindly made me a fresh one with the granola on the side--cuz no grains for me. W didn't order food, he got an Americano with almond milk as recommended by our line mate, and he liked it. I had black coffee--their drip--and it was nice. I went to add some half and half (hence, "sort of" whole 30) and was told Rooted is fully plant-based. Duh. ; ) I get it! So, he offered me sugar/free almond milk! What?! I could have had a latte! In fact, I had my husband go order me one just now! (No line!) Oh, I took a bite of my delish parfait and quickly realized the yogurt has plenty of sugar, not on my diet, so W got to eat it--with the granola... I'm sad, he's happy! Short side of this long post, I want to come back for the gluten free waffles when I can eat a little sugar again (they have a lot of vegan/gluten-free pastries and breads), and maybe try that fancy avocado toast! The espresso drink was solid, the avocado toast w with cashew cream cheese and red pepper was delicious and satiating, the outdoor seating was plentiful and it was so easy to park in the private lot. It happens to be vegan, but I am not and I didn't miss any of my usual dairy at all. If you aren't into avocado toast, there are waffles and donuts, too. Worth a visit! read more
