Largest States coffee shop I've been to, there's one in Oakland as well that I've gone to, which was significantly smaller but still served the same great quality espresso drinks! This States was so spacious and perhaps because it's outside of Oakland or SF, the pace feels nicer and slower, I spent a few afternoons out here with a good book and my computer and found it nice to sip on a latte or espresso drink while doing some work or reading. The atmosphere is what keeps me coming back to this States in particular, I would definitely drive the hour-ish out here on a weekend just to sit and enjoy a quality drink while enjoying the open space and natural lighting through the large industrial windows with my dog. read more

Love this place. I come to Martinez a few times a month for my nail appointment at Nova Lux Salon, vintage shopping at Faded Gold and antique shopping. Stopping by states for a yummy cappuccino or ginger matcha is a must. They have the most delicious pastries too. The banana bread is to die for. I stopped by late in the day Saturday and they had three pastries left. I got the blueberry something and it was incredible. I can't believe it was still there at 2 pm. I've been here multiple times several years ago pre-2020. It was great back then. I just revisited over the weekend after many years, and it's still solid. I used to go to their Benicia location all the time , which sadly closed a few months ago. I always get an iced honey latte with oat milk, and that drink was just as good as the first time I had it here. The space is large, modern, open. Lots of table space and seating. Service was fast and friendly. Kind of wish you didn't have to exit the building to go into their other sitting space, but I'm assuming that serves a purpose? First time here, the coffee shop has a large outdoor seating area as well as indoor. I tried their honey latte it was ok, but for my preference I would just keep it regular latte since I didn't really taste much difference with honey. This is the best coffee spot in the Bay Area for my money. The ambiance is amazing and with good natural lighting and a lot of industrial chic designs. More importantly, the coffee is really good. The baristas are also friendly enough. I like the space a lot. I like that it is unique, for example, you have to walk out the door and go in through another door to get to the seating areas. We went around 11 on Sunday and there's a line out the door on Sundays, but after tasting their coffee, it's worth the wait. They have a small selection of teas and coffees, but that just means they can focus more on making each drink better. They also have a glass display of pastries that sell out fast! I can't believe I have not reviewed this place! It's awesome... So - it's family owned and has been in business for a few years now. I don't know how many - but more than 5, I know that much because I recall the first time we tried their coffee. They roast the beans themselves - so the perfection begins before you get your brew. The folks that run the place on the daily are wonderful, friendly, efficient, and do their best to make everyone feel welcomed. The wait on a Sunday can be long due to the farmers market. The first thing that stood out to me and my friend about States Coffee was how large their space is with plenty of tables and outlets for those coming to get work done in a cafe space. During our visit we were able to get a table to chat and knit. They have a small room where you can order your drinks and pastries so the line keeps out of the seating space while people focus. States has changed. The hours are inconsistent, they don't offer toast anymore, and staff do not emote the same vibe as the place calls for. Coffee is still good, but the guy who used to roast coffee isn't there anymore. In fact, none of the regular workers are there anymore. The staff I see today, while nice, use the place to hangout. States gives an industrial/hipster vibe, but the attire of the staff don't match the brand. I feel like the place looks gloomier. The cheerfulness and Cheers-like environment isn't there anymore. Delicious drip in a gigantic mug plus free drip refill ? That's a steal at 4 bucks! I love the decors and styles of the common area. They look connected but actually not. We previously visited States coffee in Benecia several years back and decided to give the Martinez location a try during our visit in October 2023. We are very glad we did! Parking was easy to find and upon entering, we were promptly greeted by the friendly staff. Our order was taken immediately. We then made our way to the seating area to wait for our order. The building is a bit eclectic and has an area partitioned off that had additional seating (family area). Very well decorated inside. I noticed the seats were sat in weren't incredibly comfortable but served their purpose well enough. I ordered a Cold Brew coffee with Everything (Cayenne) Seasoned cream cheese Toast. Wife ordered a hot Chai with Avocado Toast. We were both very satisfied with our drinks and food. Overall, this was a great experience in all aspects. Sunday morning coffee is a must here. There was an average wait of 10 minutes, but that is an indicator of a good coffee spot. In general, I think Martinez is under rated with the amount of solid food options found downtown; States Coffee isn't the exception. I went for the cappuccino, and 2 toasts: Honey and Avocado. voted best coffee shop in martinez 2024! i didn't realize there were other locations in the Bay, including one in oakland! it was poppin on a friday at 11:30am. the line was about 5 people long when i arrived, with a steady stream coming in after i ordered as well. lots of people were posted with laptops in the large indoor seating area. they also have some tables outside. the wait to order was a bit longer than expected, but the staff was apologetic and kept thanking us for being patient, so maybe they were short staffed that day. i got an iced vanilla latte -- a solid choice! although i was told by a friend later that the honey latte is the way to go. so maybe i'll give that a shot next time. lots of pastries still available in the case. nothing spoke to me this time but they looked delicious and others in line snagged a few. read more

On our coffee pilgrimage today we visited States Coffee in Martinez. Entering the old brick building, we were impressed with the clean, industry modern design of the enormous coffee house. And the display of tempting baked good was irresistible. I had the veggie scone, which today consisted of broccoli, mushrooms, and parm. It was the perfect scone consistency--layers of flaky, yet moist pastry with a savory, yet slightly sweet deliciousness. Hubby had the morning bun and didn't give me a bite, so I have to trust him that it was "really good." (In all fairness, I wasn't about to share my scone!) Our coffee: I had the honey latte with oat milk. It's. so. good. Hubs had a vanilla oat milk latte. Same goodness. Oat milk is my fav for lattes, but higher in calories than I like so I don't get it often. It's also higher in potassium than almond milk, which isn't so great for my Groom. Because States doesn't offer almond milk, this will likely not be a frequent visit for us unless we go with regular coffee/tea, but we will be back.
