Today was a really bad weird day. One of their employees is bringing their business down. I saw this employee wipe their face and then grab donuts with their bare hands. That's a definite health code violation. The thing that topped it off was they said a very s3xually explicit thing to my 7 year old son thinking it was joke. I didn't want to cause a scene, but the dining room cleared out. I later tried to talk to the owners about the situation 1-on-1, but they claimed a lack of English and being too busy. The donuts are very fresh! Light fluffy raised doughnuts are my favorite and they do it well here. Small line formed for a Saturday morning. For high level of freshness they keep it simple with the popular types of raised, old fashion, and sprinkles. And just hot coffee nothing else. (No iced coffee.) No more croissant breakfast sandwiches. They're low on staff so I could see how this helps streamline what they sell. Going to Safeway or other neighboring donuts shop next time to try and save some money for some regularity baked donuts. Four stars because it's a locally owned almond pop shop, and they are very friendly, it is delicious, but is it worth the price, no! Not in my opinion anyway. I feel like for that price. They make donuts the way I remember them being made when I was a child, in the 1970s. I don't like Crispy Cream or Dunkin' donuts. They are way too sweet. Allstar doesn't frost every exposed surface of the donut, unless you're buying a Glazed donut. A Chocolate Raised only has chocolate frosting on it. There isn't clear frosting all over it, underneath the chocolate frosting. read more

The best donuts I've found so far in Walnut Creek. They usually have a line (and I've visited on different days of the week) but they have warriors decorations so that's always fun to look at until you see all the yummy donuts! They are closed on Mondays. Others may complain about them being closed randomly, but they are a small business selling donuts.. when they sell out, they close up shop. Makes sense! read more

Moved to concord from sf a few months ago, and shopped around to find my next go-to donut place. There are so many great options here. Some of our favs: blueberry donut (fresh blueberry), glazed yeast (light and airy just like krispy kreme...I don't even usually go for glazed yeast but it's so good), jelly (freshly made raspberry jam usually, so good), old fashioneds of all kinds (pretty good...wish they were maybe a little tangier, but otherwise, the best OF we've find in the area so far). There can be a little line in the weekends, but it moves quickly. The owner said the Sunday line doesn't usually get started until a later than it does Saturday. read more

If you come to his shop and it is closed because he sold out it is because there is a line that begins forming out the door when he opens. He makes these donuts fresh during the night and when they are gone, they are gone. This isn't a mass produced corporate company. He is a local business owner. Quality matters to him when it comes to donuts. These donuts are fresh, fresh, fresh. The dough is perfection (not too sweet). The glaze not too sweet. You can always tell the quality of a place by ordering basic (bolognese meat sauce at Italian, vanilla ice cream at an ice cream shop, etc). All Star Donuts' amaaaazing simple glazed donut is perfection. It literally puffs into your mouth light as air and melts like warm mothers milk. Omg, you cannot have one. And if you have two you have to stop yourself from having a 3rd. The owner uses his loving care making the perfect glazed donut with a not too much of a sweet glaze over the top. His 'glaze' is top notch. It is not easy. It is an art. I am a foodie. No one compares to the art and care this man puts into his donuts. The rest are very good as well but omygoodness who wants chocolate in the morning?!! I digress. I love his cream fillings, his raspberry fillings. His old fashioned donuts have a perfect crisp to them with not too much oil making that "crisp" as donut sits longer cooking. Yet, inside his Old Fashioned it is fluffy. I could go on and on. After enjoying All Star Donuts you cannot even tolerate Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme (premade dough transported to the sites, often frozen). It's like flying first class then having to go back to coach. To be honest, after consuming this local business owner's care and concern to make a top quality donut (& making a glazed donut takes the most effort btw to truly do it right like he does) you will be ruined. You will go back to a Dunkin Donut/Krispy Kreme and take that first bite, turn up your nose, pull that donut back a bit to inspect with a perplexed scowl vowing to yourself, "How could I have ever thought these were good?" Hours are inconsistent as they don't always open when they say and definitely close as soon as they run out of donuts (usually before noon). Went in today around 9:30am and was charged $27 for a dozen donuts. Price is steep but so is everything nowadays. Donuts were fluffy and perfectly sweet.
