Had an awesome experiance at Johnny's Donuts this morning. It was 5 AM on Mother's Day and they still went above and beyond to have my order ready right on time (call a day before to give him a heads up, though you're gonna be coming). Super friendly customer service, very welcoming people, and just a really pleasant conversation that early in the morning, which honestly made my day. The freshly baked donut selection is amazing. You got everything from old-fashioned plain, glazed, chocolate, sprinkles, classic twists, and pretty much anything your heart desires. The filled donuts are awsome too, although sounds like those are usually made a little later in the day fresh:( The inside is actually relatively big and comfortable, not cramped like many donut spots. One of the coolest parts is being able to see a lot of the baking process happening right there. You can tell they really care about quality seen that freshly baked one-to-one beauty laying in front of you and their customers, who are always happy! So Johnny's is a little hole-in-wall place that is pretty non-frills but very comfortable and bright. The doughnuts are absolutely awesome. The kids fell in love them as family brought them by for a treat. They love all of them though they are particular to chocolate plain. The chocolate and custard cream filled are also big hits. The staff are very friendly and very efficient. They recognize the regulars and treat everyone well. Take the cash discount if you can :) great local favorite and highly recommend. read more

Absolute best donuts I've had in the bay area and it's not particularly close. I don't know what in the heck they do to these but their donuts are so incredibly soft and fluffy in the middle it's amazing. Super nice people too, always happy to serve you. Stopped in for donuts during a visit home. Fast service and delicious donuts! Everything is super fresh and made the same day. This place has been here since I was a child and is just as good now. Lots of choices-the ube donut was great! Paid around $12 for half dozen, and they threw in a few glazed donut holes too. They also have breakfast sandwiches in a small case on top of the donut case. A staple in Lafayette. Always consistently delicious. Perfectly fluffy and flavorful. One of the only places I have been to that has maple bars and chocolate bars you can get filled with cream! I'm so glad I finally tried Johnny's Donuts, which is now my new favorite donut shop in Contra Costa County! I went in around 10am on a Thursday with two people ahead of me in line. There was a good selection of donuts with everything I was hoping for, plus a surprise of seeing they had Ube donuts (5/5)! I LOVE Ube so I had to get one. All the donuts were fresh. I also bought a chocolate glazed (5/5), vegan chocolate sprinkles (5/5), and gave my parter a maple bar, which he enjoyed. The owner was so nice and even gave me three free donut holes with my order. I needed to make the $10 minimum to use my card so I also got a Vietnamese coffee (4/5), which was strong and tasty. I sat at one of their booths to enjoy my coffee and Ube donut, and enjoyed the old school, nostalgic atmosphere. I look forward to coming back to try more of their donuts! read more

Got a chance to try these doughnuts and they were amazing!! Passionfruit was perfect, and the old fashioned was fantastic. The star of the show was the ube, though - I've had plenty of ube mochi doughnuts, but this was the first time I had a cake one and it was incredible. My son turned 6 while we were on vacation and a family member bought him a donut cake to celebrate, which was a new (and delightful) to us experience. A week later back home, we hosted a birthday party for him and his friends and also wanted to celebrate with a donut cake. We love Johnny's Donuts and contacted Kim to ask if they were able to do this special order which she was excited to do in spite of the fact that they had never made one before and was willing to try it out. Apparently you need special machinery to make them but we appreciated that they took on the challenge and freehanded the design!! Kim called the day before the scheduled pickup to confirm. Upon pickup, they even gifted the bday boy with his own donut and was just a delight to work with. We are loyal fans, and will be ordering donut cakes again in the future!! read more
