Had an awesome experiance at Johnny's Donuts this morning. It was 5 AM on Mother's Day and they still went above and beyond to have my order ready right on time (call a day before to give him a heads up, though you're gonna be coming). Super friendly customer service, very welcoming people, and just a really pleasant conversation that early in the morning, which honestly made my day. The freshly baked donut selection is amazing. You got everything from old-fashioned plain, glazed, chocolate, sprinkles, classic twists, and pretty much anything your heart desires. The filled donuts are awsome too, although sounds like those are usually made a little later in the day fresh:( The inside is actually relatively big and comfortable, not cramped like many donut spots. One of the coolest parts is being able to see a lot of the baking process happening right there. You can tell they really care about quality seen that freshly baked one-to-one beauty laying in front of you and their customers, who are always happy! Wow Lafayette has the worse Donut Shop. Parking is horrendous and but the worst part all there Donuts taste like OLD OIL & STALE. I've Been Eating Donuts all Over the Bay Are and I was born in SF. Total waste of Time & Money since all ended in the Trash. Service was horrible even with No Customers. Trust me Stay Away and Save your $$$!!! read more

Absolute best donuts I've had in the bay area and it's not particularly close. I don't know what in the heck they do to these but their donuts are so incredibly soft and fluffy in the middle it's amazing. Super nice people too, always happy to serve you. It's a very old school sort of place, they've been there for decades and I've been going there for decades and I'm so happy they've maintained such consistent quality. A staple in Lafayette. Always consistently delicious. Perfectly fluffy and flavorful. One of the only places I have been to that has maple bars and chocolate bars you can get filled with cream! I'm so glad I finally tried Johnny's Donuts, which is now my new favorite donut shop in Contra Costa County! I went in around 10am on a Thursday with two people ahead of me in line. There was a good selection of donuts with everything I was hoping for, plus a surprise of seeing they had Ube donuts (5/5)! I LOVE Ube so I had to get one. All the donuts were fresh. I also bought a chocolate glazed (5/5), vegan chocolate sprinkles (5/5), and gave my parter a maple bar, which he enjoyed. The owner was so nice and even gave me three free donut holes with my order. I needed to make the $10 minimum to use my card so I also got a Vietnamese coffee (4/5), which was strong and tasty. I sat at one of their booths to enjoy my coffee and Ube donut, and enjoyed the old school, nostalgic atmosphere. I look forward to coming back to try more of their donuts! read more

From the display cases to the counter seating, the interior oozes old-school charm and character. They offer your typical donut fare and beverages, plus a few breakfast items. Honestly, you can't go wrong anything here. I love that their donuts are always big, fluffy, and not too sweet. The female owner is super friendly and welcoming. My son turned 6 while we were on vacation and a family member bought him a donut cake to celebrate, which was a new (and delightful) to us experience. A week later back home, we hosted a birthday party for him and his friends and also wanted to celebrate with a donut cake. We love Johnny's Donuts and contacted Kim to ask if they were able to do this special order which she was excited to do in spite of the fact that they had never made one before and was willing to try it out. Apparently you need special machinery to make them but we appreciated that they took on the challenge and freehanded the design!! Kim called the day before the scheduled pickup to confirm. The old-fashioned donut was not as dense and caramelized on the outside as I was expecting, and the interior was also slightly dry. On a positive note, the sweetness level of the glaze was just right, and the donut was not overly greasy. These donuts tasted much higher quality than the ones you would get at the grocery store, and Johnny's Donuts offers all of the classics - raised / glazed donuts, cake donuts, and even specialty varieties like donut bars and filled donuts. While Johnny's Donuts is slightly pricier and further away from where I live than other local donut shops, I'd definitely come back if I was in the area. I've also heard Johnny's donuts tends to sell out early in the morning - which must be a good sign - so it seems that the best strategy is to support your most local donut shop for the best selection. read more
