She radiated joy, warmth, and kindness. After an incredibly long and exhausting day, that simple interaction completely changed my mood. The pastries absolutely lived up to the experience. I had the jalapeño cheese pastry, and it was outstanding. Even cold, it was flaky on the outside, soft on the inside, with just the right amount of spice. I caught myself wishing I'd bought another one before I even finished it. My family tried the apple pastry and the sugar donut, and both were equally impressed. The apple pastry was beautifully flaky--you could actually hear the crisp layers with every bite--and the sugar donut disappeared with zero complaints. Great pastries are one thing, but combining exceptional quality with genuinely kind people is what makes a place memorable. We tried their Bear Claw and Maple Iced doughnut today. Both were yeast raised donuts, which are my favorite, and they were incredibly fluffy and soft. I especially enjoyed the Bear Claw. The doughnut was made really well, with a nice cinnamon filling on the inside and a good sugar crust on the outside. It was really delicious. The Maple Iced doughnut was pretty good too, although I wish they had added a little more maple icing. Still, both of them were outstanding overall. We have lived just down the street from King's for almost a decade and have never made it here. I am not sure why and I wish we had gone sooner. These donuts are amazing. They remind me of the little shop we used to go to as a kid all the time. The shop: easy to get to from both directions on Clayton Rd as there is a light. Lots of parking in the parking lot. Clean inside. The staff: super nice. They even gave us those donut holes (plus 3 more already consumed) for free. The food: fantastic donuts. These particular ones are cakey inside and soft with good balance of flavor. The old fashions have a nice crisp texture on the bottom and the slightly firm top layer of chocolate. Not overly greasy at all. The cake donuts have a slightly crisp skin with a perfect cake texture that isn't dry and again not overly sweet (considering the fact it is a cake in donut form that is). The donut holes are light with a fantastic glaze. We arrived around 9am on a weekday and I was afraid they wouldn't have the selection we wanted, but there were a ton of donuts of all types even at 9am! I'm not sure my waistline needs this donut shop to be so good and so close, but it is and we will go back now that we know about it. read more
