Best donuts in the area hands down. Taste and texture are the best. I have tried ALL the donut spots in the area and their chocolate old fashioned and apple fritters are top tier. If you think i'm wrong then give them a try. The apple fritters are cooked consistently well and have tons of apple flavor and not too oily and burnt like others Ive tried in the area. The chocolate old fashioned tastes like an old fashioned should taste like and has crispy outside and soft moist inside not to mention great tasting chocolate coating thats not plastic tasting like others. The only problem is getting them before they sell out! The service is great! Friendly staff and accommodative. The lady who once worked the front counter for all of those years just recently left, but the store still has the same great homey feeling! I used to come here almost every morning when I commuted to multiple locations for work some years ago. Although they are known for their donuts, I would ironically always start my morning off with their ham and cheese croissant and milk or an apple cider! Not the healthiest breakfast in the world, hence why I said "used to". I don't frequent this donut shop nearly as much as I used to, but whenever I do come in, it feels like I never left! The donuts here are really amazing! They always taste fresh and a few times I've had the pleasure of getting donuts that were fresh out of the oven! Mmm! I love their donut twists and donut holes, but my FAVORITE pastry from here is their apple fritter! It's hands down one of the best apple fritters that I have ever had! It's so crispy and sweet... it might just be a heart attack at first bite! I just love that damn apple fritter! But I have to watch my weight, so I can't be eating it all the time! Happy donuts carries a variety of different donuts as well as breakfast sandwiches, soft drinks, and coffee! The inside is small and only offers one table for seating and they only have a few parking spots in front. I actually just park at Walgreen's next door and walk over since it's easier for me to not have to make that u-turn into the parking lot. The pricing is very fair here with a box of a dozen mixed donuts only costing $9. The only downside and why I can't rate them 5 stars is the fact that their cash only. They've been cash only for so many years! I feel that they would get so much more business if they just decided to accept cards. I remember one time I went in and for a donut and a drink and when I went to pay, I had no cash on me! Instead of turning me away, the lady that used to work there just told me to pay her back the next time that I came in. I was so shocked! It made me feel good that she trusted me that much! I mean, I was a dedicated regular, but it really meant a lot to me. I ended up coming back the next day and paying her back. I would recommend Happy Donuts to anyone who loves being "happy"! Not so happy I cannot pull out of their driveway until I write this review. This was my first visit, and will be my last. Donuts in general happen to be one of my guilty pleasures so I do have certain expectations. To start, a donut shop should have at least the illusion of being clean & sanitary. There should be the slight aroma of donuts cooked in fat as you walk through the door, and the donuts displayed should look aesthetically appealing. As far as flavor, a good donut might be warm, have a lightness to it and should bring about feelings of guilt as it is being devoured. This donut shop failed on all levels, even though I selected one that had just been carried from the back on a rack. This place needs a good scrubbing inside and out, and perhaps the owners might consider reformulating the recipe so that the product tastes as if it were made fresh. One bite is all it took for me to say no bueno! Although I walk away feeling guilty for having spent $2.25, I am hopeful this cup of coffee has some redeeming quality. read more

Happy Donuts is conveniently located off of Monument Blvd/Oakgrove Rd. This is the closest donut shop on this side of Monument so they get pretty busy! Parking is a bit tight but you'll manage to get a spot either directly in front of the shop, the travel agency or barber shop! I love Happy Donuts. Not only are the prices very reasonable but the Donuts are cooked fresh and with lots of love. I have had the pleasure to frequent this place for a few years now. The staff is always very friendly. If you go towards closing time they even throw in some free donuts to get rid of them. This place is cash only which I don't mind. This is a mom and pop so if your wanting a donut I am sure your belly can spare a few bucks in cash. :) I had a great conversation with the kind woman who was working there. I gave her the idea to start selling yogurt parfaits. She already had the granola, I told her all she needed now was plain yogurt and fruit. I shared with her that the parfaits usually go for $5+ and she could get away with selling them for $3 or $4. She was very grateful for the suggestion and even took notes. The surrounding neighborhood remains pretty sad, with a few bright spots here and there (1800 Café, 7-11, Cash n Carry). But the times I've gotten a quick breakfast here, the donut worker has provided a big smile for whoever comes in. A medium-sized selection of a big variety of donuts, croissants, rolls, etc. I've had several of these, including a huge bear claw today. Most of the time, it's been okay. But the bear claw was a surprise: not only is it HUGE, with nice crumbles on top, but it included cooked apples inside. I've never had that, didn't expect it, and it was a nice surprise. And for only $1.50. CASH ONLY. I'd give it 4 stars. Problem: The Monument Corridor is trying hard to come back. Long-timers tell me that it was a solid, middle-class neighborhood - at first, and then went ghetto. I'm a regular at the Food Maxx across the street, and the years I've been going there, I've seen a slow improvement. Happy Donuts is a throwback to the ghetto days: outside, inside, parking lot, and clientele, all look run-down. This doesn't affect the food; the food's still very good. It's not a good place to sit and eat breakfast, though. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the donut girl has always been smiling: offer some light in the drabness. If you're in the area give `em the business. It'll help them become a brighter spot on this still-kinda-sad boulevard. read more

Went here on New Year's Day. By the time we were done, we ordered 8 donuts and a macaroon.
