Be careful if you're a solo female. This restaurant has waiters that will flat out ignore you. It was so blatantly obvious that one particular waiter was intentionally refusing to serve me. He told a couple and me where to sit and then brought them menus but gave me nothing. I got another waiter's attention who gave me a menu and apologized for the other waiter. Then this guy goes to the couple and takes their order completely avoiding eye contact with me. So I got the other waiter's attention and he politely took my order. I told him the other guy just flat refuses to wait on me. More apologies. He said some people lack manners. I got my food and a 3rd waiter got involved (I think my guy went on break maybe) and he was perfectly fine taking care of me. What the heck?! The food was decent. I've had worse. I visited this place on a not so busy night, but immediately I was a little turned off by the rushed nature of the staff. Very rushed- remember in Spain the idea is to enjoy a meal leisurely. The menu was traditional Spanish, however the entire staff was of a different cultural background, perhaps (but I am not sure) even the chef? Walking around the Gothic area, we stopped by this restaurant to eat a bite. They have an outside area to sit as well as inside. We got there about an hour before they closed for the siesta. Not too many people were there. The hostess asked us if we knew Spanish or English, and gave us an English menu. There were lots of tapas to choose from as well as several other entree's. We ordered the sangria with champagne (cava) for the table. It was light and refreshing considering it was quite warm outside. I ordered the paella which had seafood as the meat. Very delicious! Lots of seafood, the rice had perfect amount of moisture, and everyone loved it. My BF got pappardelle pasta with seafood. It came with some kind of tomato sauce. Perfect rich with flavor and paired very nicely with the seafood. The son got half of a rabbit. It was so moist. The seasoning on it let the rabbit flavor shine through. And the daughter got half a chicken. Again, it was very moist and juicy. Not dry at all. It is a good place to eat as you continue walking around the Gothic quarter area. read more

Traveling into downtown Barcelona, we were walking around city's main cathedral when we spotted this quaint-looking café. We were all still jet-lagged, but wanted to get something to eat. Great atmosphere inside, it reminded me of a French café with the art and decorations inside. The staff was friendly and accommodating, especially for our very-tired children. I opted for the Open-Faced Tuna and Cod Sandwich. Very unique, but still tasted good. The boys didn't like it, but hey - they're new to trying European food. Your expectations upon walking in here are set by the location, heavy on tourist and heavy on bankers from Barcelona. It feels a little slick and it feels a little predictable. You get the sense that anyone exhausted from touring the cathedral ends up here for tapas or a beer. And the fact is, if you thought all that, you would be far off. The place is filled with slick guys in suits and people carrying guidebooks who have been doing sightseeing. But the truth is the food is actually quite good and the service is pretty attentive and the mood is warm and comfortable. I ordered a small plate of chorizo, Roasted prawns and octopus ( which I felt quite guilty about but did just just this once) and when the paella finally arrived 30 minutes later I was nearly full. That would typically make me wary, but since it looked very handsome through the front windows and the time and place were right, in we went. And the verdict was...thumbs up. The service was a little frustrating, but most of the food was very good. The champiñones and stuffed piquillo peppers were excellent, and the cafe con leche satisfying, but the "Andalusian" calamari is just fried calamari like you can get in almost any sports bar in the United States. All in all, it was a nice setting for a leisurely midafternoon meal and satisfying food for our first tapas excursion of the trip. I went here with my wife today. The service was terrible and the drinks were awful/disgusting. We ordered a drink called the lumumba that tasted like watered down chocolate milk and an old fashioned that tasted like straight orange syrup with no alcohol in it. I told the waitress that my wife was allegeric to milk (in the lumumba drink) and she clearly didn't care as I tried to explain that I would like the drink to be taken away. Whoever made the old fashioned should not be a bartender; I could've made a better drink on my own. There are so many other options in Barcelona. Do not go here; save your money. Location... It's all about location. Just by the Cathedral... my friend was hungry and wanted to sit down someplace easy for me to find and catch up with her. She'd ordered some wine, pan con tomate, and calamari. When I finally joined, eventually (after an interminable amount of time), a server came and asked if I wanted something to drink... uh yes. The calamari was doughy, and rubbery... the bread was tough... the wine was ok. The terrace was nice. Same with the setting. It's been some time since we were there but if I remember correctly between us we had octopus, croquettas, and morcilla (black pudding) dish. The worst place to eat in Barcelona. I was there with my wife tonight for a quick bite, we ordered mussels and a vegetarian paella. The waitress did not bring an extra plate for the shells so I had to put the shells in the astray. The paella was dry and the rice was uncooked. My mussels were okay, I had to ask for bread and they bring a small piece... then we ordered an apple cake which was a piece of bread with apple sauce in it. No apple whatsoever. We ordered two glasses of wine and the price in the menu was 4.75 € they charge us 5.70€ each glass, when I asked the waitress she was very frustrated and she start explaining in a very broken English that the prices in the patio was more expensive then inside, but I asked her why the prices in the menu for food are not changed. What I want to say is that they have a menu for inside and one for outside but the wine menu is only one with the prices for inside probably. Why don't you have another one with different prices for outside. We want to speak with a manager, but it was no way we could find one, so we left... very, very disappointed. This was the worst meal we had during probably our entire Spain trip. We were tired one evening and since we were in the area we decided to just try this spot. Luckily we only ordered a couple items, but it was enough for us to say no more. We ordered the patatas bravas and the croquettas to start, and my husband ordered a mojito.
