The service is incredible. and their wine list including by the glass is superb. I had the 60 euros, one of the best red's I've had in a long time. Made a reservation for 8pm on a Thursday. We were maybe the 3rd table seated inside, but the restaurant became full at 9pm or so. I'd recommend making a reservation a day in advance, or more if it's a weekend you're going for. Service was good, but our entrees (paella and octopus) did take awhile to come, while the appetizers came quickly. My friends friend recommended this place for the best paella for the city. Even though Barcelona is not known for paella we know we had to try it while in Spain! We got a meat based paella and seafood based paella to try. Both had a squid ink type flavor to rice that really added a richness of flavor. We enjoyed both in a different way! Would def. We made reservations here because I read it's a good place for paella. We walked down an alley to get to the restaurant. We were seated inside, but there's also outdoor seating available. We started with bites- ham croquette, crab croquette, and pork muffin sandwich. Each order is one unit. The exterior of the croquettes were light and crispy. We went with a seafood paella. It was flavorful and I liked the pieces of squid in it. I didn't care too much for the scampi and red prawns. The texture of the two felt undercooked, but maybe that's how it's suppose to be... Let's start with the service. It was friendly but very sloppy No Server paid attention to who ordered what food! So they brought the incorrect food to several tables as I watched. I never even got my food. The server gave it to someone else, who thought it was his. The food wasn't as represented. First time at this restaurant and I love the atmosphere. It made me kinda feel like I was in Paris. The ambient is cozy and our waiter was very attentive. One thing I didn't like was, while we were waiting for our check, another waiter came and told us he needed our table for a group reservation. I told him we were done, we were just waiting for our check. I feel like this gothic looking chick was pressuring him to keep people going in and out and it felt really rushed. This was our last night in Europe after two weeks and I wanted to make our last dinner memorable. It was. ..... for the wrong reasons! The positives? We arrived at 5:45pm because Apple said they were open all day but they opened at 6. We walked around for a bit, came back and then they asked us if we had a reservation. We said no. I asked if we needed one. They said yes. They sat us anyway. The drinks were delicious. Bartender recommended a drink similar to what I normally drink. Said it was his recipe and it was great. The negatives? Service was terrible. Not sure if if he was new or not but he was all over the place. Confusion on what orders went where. Took way too long for drinks. Never asked us how we were doing. Had to buy bread for the table and you got like two teaspoons of oil. No refill. The paella was bare with little substance and for €25, it should have had more. Hands down our favorite meal in Spain not only Barcelona . We walked in and were told that they had no vacancy but the food on other tables looked so delicious that we came back home and made reservations for the next day and boy , am I glad for that . They have both indoor as well as Outdoor seating and we elected to sit outside . The patio /alley where the outdoor seating is located even though had many other tables , the vibe was still very intimate . We started of with a bottle of wine and proceeded to order some appetizers and entrees . They served us a complimentary portion of warm bread with cucumber infused oil and it was the perfect start to an outstanding meal. The seafood paella was the servers recommendation and even though my hubby isn't big on seafood , he still loved it . The mussels with the tamarind sauce and coconut milk was hands down the best we have ever had . If you could only order one dish of the menu , I would highly recommend this one . We also got the acorn fed Iberian ham Croquette .The starters or bites are just the right portion to share. The show stopper however was the dessert that our server recommended -Torrija Casa Amalia . Its been a few months but I can still remember with vivid detail how it tasted and smelt and how our expressions changed from surprise to pure joy with the first bite . We have ensured every single person who cares to listen , hears about that dessert. I would go back to Barcelona just to have that dessert again ! Very basic hotel that's close to everything. Decent, clean, no frills. Sign up for membership before you book. Make sure you book a room with a window facing the street, otherwise you'll end up with an interior room with a window to the corridor. A surprisingly decent breakfast is included. They normally require a reservation but we got lucky because sure enough, there was a table for two open. We are in Barcelona for a day and really wanted a good traditional paella. Being unfamiliar with this city we relied on reviews and ratings. How could 5,000 reviews be wrong I thought. Well I guess 5000 people are wrong. I am a published chef that loves food. The shrimp in the seafood paella was undercooked bordering on raw. The braised rib paella was very salty and nearly inedible. When I bit into the undercooked shrimp it made me gag and I had to spit it in my napkin. Since arriving in Spain I have yet to have a meal that is not accosting to my palette. Casa Amelia was supposed to revive my love for Spanish cuisine but instead drove the final nail in Spains culinary coffin. Also the service was slow and the patio was loud with people vaping. Visiting Barcelona, my party and I decided to stop and eat here given the reviews and it's location. The restaurant had just opened for the evening and did not think it would be too bad of a wait. Arriving, we were asked if we had reservations- unfortunately we did not. Our decision to eat here was on a whim so we did not think of making a reservation. The manager shared they were fully booked that evening however, if one of their reservations did not show up in the next 10 minutes, we could take their table. We waited and they didn't show up so we were sat. We were sat outside and given our own heater to keep warm, however our heater was no turned on. One of my party members asked a number of times if we can have our heater turned on and we were told yes, but no one came by to turn it on. It wasn't until the waitress said it was broken, reason why no one came by. If that was the case, they could have just mentioned that at the initial request instead of avoiding us. I found this to be rude and inconsiderate. Food was served about an hour later. We ordered 2 dishes- paella and their steak. Only the paella came out. It was thinly layered in the dish it's served in & was extremely mushy & bland. The 2 prawns & 2 pieces of baby crab legs placed on top were soft, just barely cooked (still had some of its 'gooey' texture to it). My party and I tried it as we were so hungry at this point but we were not a fan. We continued to wait for the steak but it didn't come out. At this point, we thought it would be best to just go. We've sat at our table for about 1.5 hours and only had the paella come out. We flagged out waitress and asked to have the steak to go. She asked if it was because we were cold but we said no, at this point we were tired. She went back to the kitchen and the chef and manager came out with the steak, expressing it wouldn't taste the same if we boxed it to go. My party and I said that's fine, we would still like the check. Manager asked if we wanted the paella packed and in unison, we said no (it truly wasn't good). Appearing upset, he walked off. The check came, we paid and left. There was no apology to the lack of transparency about the heater, the extremely long wait for the food, and just the overall lack of service. It was disappointing because my party and I looked forward to eating here but we left here still hungry, disappointed & tired. Enjoy true local food elsewhere. I don't have much to say frankly about this place other than it was one of the first meals I had in Barcelona and it left a high bar for all the other restaurants that I dined at during my trip. The food tasted good, but the portions were very small for the prices charged, especially compared to many other highly rated restaurants we've been to in Barcelona. Came to Casa Amalia today 3/23/23 based on the good reviews on yelp and the close proximity to our hotel. I was really looking forward to getting a true taste of local cuisine. We showed up with no reservations but were seated after about 5 min since others we a no show. ( this is why they got a star) It was a group of three of us. Our heater was not working and we asked various employees to assist us with it to no avail. Finally after asking a fourth time we were told it didn't work. ( not sure why they couldn't just say that up front) As for the food it took over an hour to get our paella and it was extremely undercooked. After waiting an additional 30 min I asked for the bill. The server was confused since we had still ordered another plate. We mentioned we were cold and now tired and would take it to go. She went over to get the chef and manager who then came five minutes later with our plate to say it wouldn't be the same if we didn't eat the food there to experience the true flavor. We told them we would eat it and then leave and asked for the bill again. The manager then asked if we wanted our other food items boxed up and we mentioned it was undercooked and we were not too pleased with it. He simply shook his head and stepped away not even clearing the dish from our table. This is probably one of the more expensive restaurants I've been to in Barcelona but definitely one of the worst when it came to service and quality. read more

A really lovely place! The restaurant itself is cozy, clean, and warm. No frills, unpretentious, yet classy. I believe we were served by the owner, who was very patient and generous in accommodating our lack of Spanish. The service was excellent. The menu is simple, but there's plenty of variety to keep everyone interested. The meal itself was really delicious! The cooking was simple, the quality of the ingredients was allowed to stand out, which was a big pleasure, and the presentation was uncomplicated. It really was a very pleasant surprise. We knew the specialty was meat, but we all had seafood and it was so good. We had the prawn and avocado salad and the calamari to share. Really fantastic due to the high quality of ingredients. I can't emphasize that enough. The cod was better than I had in Portugal, someone at the table had seabass and was very pleased, and my sister had mushroom pasta which was delicious even to me and I'm never really interested in pasta.
