We had veggie empanadas with walnuts (yummy), Moroccan chicken (very nice, NOT dry), montaditos with ham and brie (delicious), cauliflower (almost a risotto), the steak filet (very nice). Only one we'd skip is the baby potato: not bad, but not as good as the otherd. Prices are about 1/3 more than at other places, but the servings were about 1/3 bigger. Service was slow but nice . Yummy and inventive and not your traditional tapas if you're looking for some flair. The empanadas that essentially were French onion soup inside a doughy casing were unbelievable. I could have had dozens of them, though my waistline would have paid the price, my taste buds thanked me for sure! Really loved the variety of flavors. We started off with a jar of Sangria. It was delicious and maybe my favorite of the trip. Patatas bravas - fried chunks of potato with a spicy sauce to dip in. Pan con tomate - man I love this! So simple. It's bread with a bit of mashed tomato spread. Provolone cheese with Chimichurri- this was a delight! The cheese pull is fantastic, but the taste is even better. Empnada with goat cheese mozzarella walnuts and camarolozsd onions - these were excellent! Chorizo - I didn't love this. It was ok, just not what I was expecting. Service was top notch. We found this place our second night in Barcelona. It's a cozy little spot. The waitress was so sweet and really does it all. She works the bar, takes the orders etc. Our last night of vaca we went back and this sweet lady was there again doing it all!!! She remembered us and again was doing it all. The tapas are very good. We came here for lunch on our last full day and this was my favorite meal of the trip! Between the two of us we ordered one menu of the day with pork, patatas bravas and risotto. The menu of the day also came with a beverage (husband ordered a beer) and dessert or coffee, we choose to get the carrot cake (to share). In addition to that, we ordered the deep fried squid and the tuna (based off our waitress' recommendation). Everything was delicious! It was a ton of food and we finished everything! The tuna was a great choice, it was so fresh and flavorful with the different sauces. The patatas bravas were my favorite of the trip, because they left the sauce on the side it stayed crispy for the entire meal. In reality, it's 3.5 out of 5. Tosca has an excellent variety of tapas to choose from, but the quality is severely hit-or-miss. The patatas bravas (5.10€) sort of tasted like they might have been frozen. At the very least, they were cut a long time before they were cooked. They had the telltale indentation (wilting?) you wouldn't see in a freshly-cut potato. That said, the sauce was excellent and the portion was generous. The provolone cheese with sun-dried tomatoes (5.90€) was a lovely taste combination. Hot, melty cheese with the tangy bite of the tomatoes. I wish the bread that came with the dish were softer. Again, it tasted a little stale, like it had been sitting out a while. I disliked the honey and curry chicken skewers (6.80€). The sauce just didn't taste great. It was my least favorite of the 4 tapas I tried. If you like Indian food, you may enjoy it. The sirloin was excellent and a solid value at 8.50 €. I also enjoyed a lovely bottle of Tempranillo. One red flag about Tosca is that many, many, MANY native-English speakers were here. Tourist swarms often suggest lower quality. I would say that Tosca offers a solid value in terms of quantity, but the quality is not up to par with other 4-star establishments. It's a good place for anyone dipping their toes into the tapas waters, or if you were trying to feed a family, it's a decent option. For ambiance or high-quality food, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

We had reservations at another spot, planning a celebratory dinner we had notified them of in advance. Can't explain why, but we were seated at the most poorly located table in a near empty restaurant. After a review of their menu options and prices, and not digging the ambience at all, we got our phones out to find an alternative restaurant. So happy we did, as we found Tosca just a few blocks away. Very friendly staff welcomed and seated us, and promptly took and delivered our drink order. The place was bustling with families and couples and really had a great vibe. We ordered a handful of tapas, all of which we were super happy with, in quantity, quality & price. Wonderful flavors, perfect temperature, cooked absolutely right. Very nice restaurant for locals and tourists alike. It is right across from a beautiful concert hall. The servers were very nice and helped make some recommendations. Our favorites were the empanadas (do not skip these they were amazing), the lasagna, and the steak. The empanadas are one if the best things we have eaten on our travels and we may detour back to get more. The lasagna with pumpkin was excellent and the steak had a great sauce and sweat potato to accompany it. We also had the chicken skewers which were decent but next time would be a skip- was expediting more of a creamy sauce with it. And the chef salad was again fine but didn't have a dressing was more bland then expected. We had a dessert with apricot and ice cream that was a bit sugary but toned down well with the ice cream. The wine list was good and they have a menu double sided with English on the back for those that need it. Overall the service was fast, the food was good and the options were nice. This is a great place for 2 people. If you have more just know most things come out on 2s or enough for 2 to share tapas style. And again don't skip the empanadas! read more

Excellent service. The staff is extremely sweet and welcoming. They do have a few vegan options and an allergen menu which is great! I ordered the TarTar de remolacha with pan crystal and sangria. Absolutely blown away by these simple dishes being excecuted so well. The servers were ever closing up for the night and brought all of the customers a tray of bread and Brie/ jamón ibérico to try instead of tossing them. Not something you see where I'm from (US). Hands down the most charming bar/restaurant in Barcelona. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly. It's perfect for stopping by to grab a drink and a few tapas before heading out to your final destination. We loved sitting at the bar and ordered wine and sangria. The best thing here is their Montacitos with cured ham and arugula and Parmesan. You must order this, we came back two days in a row for it, it's that good!! They were all average, nothing special. Patatas bravas were basically breakfast potato chunks with a side of mayo based sauce. The lasagna had walnuts in it but was otherwise mediocre. The tuna tatami/tartare was well intentioned, has sesame and I think crushed up pistachio dust, but it was only OK The montaditos with sun dried tomato and anchovy were ok. Located a few blocks from the cathedral in the Gòtic area. Small place that sits maybe 25-30 people. There are seated standard tables, high top tables and seating at bar. First come first serve and hap hazard seating. Food is good. We had the prawns, empanadas, chicken skewers, melted provolone, a salad, grilled steak, seared ahi tuna. and the pork dumplings. All were tapas and meant for sharing. My favorite was the pork dumplings and ahi which were delicious. My wife's favorite was the melted provolone with garlic crusted bread. The salad had a dense and slightly sweetens balsamic reduction which was nice. I forced myself to eat all the prawns as wife doesn't eat this along with a plate of seared ahi tuna and kid was not hungry at 9:30 pm (we fed her on the way there as she just wanted a bean and cheese burrito for comfort food after 3 weeks of traveling with her mom). The chicken skewers would have been highly rated if we didn't have it brought last. I would skip the steak. It sounds good on the menu to diversify but just doesn't work at this place. A bottle of wine during dinner was nice. The ice cream was a nice close along with a dessert drink for wife and coffee for me. The prices are very reasonable as it includes tip and tax. The wine is very reasonably priced. Service was the limitation for me and family. When we arrived we had an 8 year old kid at 9:30 and offered a high top table. We stated we were fine with waiting for a standard table and start at the bar. Service member said but we are full. There were clearly 3 tables literally leaving. We went to bar and told our high top was in back. I replied can we just have drinks at bar they said ok. When tables cleared literally with 5 minutes even before bottle of wine could be open we asked if we could get a table if one becomes open (no one else around waiting in bar or outside). They stated that it would be fine. In conclusion this is a nice place with several items worth a stop if you can be efficiently seated. Tosca has great options for your dining meal. Tonight my wife and I had the shrimp pictured below. It gets messy on the hands but worth the extra work. We also selected the potato's, meatballs, and sirloin steak. For desert we had the delicious brownie and ice cream pictured below. The service was really attentive and helpful. Unfortunately, the couple next to us were eating the garnished shrimp and splashed the shrimp contents on our table and it got on my wife dress. The couple knew but did not offer an apology rather just laugh. When you're level headed you don't let other people's childish actions affect your dinner with your beautiful wife.
