Five stars easy for this establishment. We made a reservation weeks in advance as we heard this establishment was busy, but worth it. We decided to do a more upscale experience when my in-laws flew in to show them the food scene in Barcelona and this did not disappoint. We had a reservation for 8pm and arrived just beforehand. We were seated in the back of the cellar, which created an intimate yet unique experience. We were greeted by Max, who was kind and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered drinks to start - which consisted of some old fashions and sangria's. Highly recommend! For appetizers, we ordered the duck salad and the octopus. Honestly, both were absolutely fabulous. The octopus was made to perfection and the duck was tender and delicious. We ordered some steaks - medium rare and the lambchops. All things were absolutely delicious. This was our first night in Spain at the beginning of a 2 week trip -- and might have been the best meal we had. We made a reservation a month in advance as this place is popular. Gorgeous Cave-Like setting right in the heart of The Gothic Quarter. For food we got: - both Peach and Red Sangria's - maybe the best in Spain. 15 Euros so not cheap - Pan Con Tomate - first time having this dish -- great, - Iberian "Pluma" Acorn Fed Pork - so tender and amazing! - Cod (Bacalao) - perfectly baked I must give a shout out to our amazing waiter LUCAS who spoke excellent english and gave some perfect recommendations. We got here at 7:30 and it was quiet -- but quickly filled up and was totally full by 8:30. It's more expensive than most restaurants but for that you get quality service, superb food, linen napkins, and soft jazz music. We wanted to come again the next night but it was totally booked! The Bacalao (Atlantic Cod) was the best fish dish of my life! Served atop Trinxat, a traditional Catalan dish of cabbage and potato. Topped with fig jam. I loved the Forest Sangria. A far cry from the Sangria served in tourist spots, this is the real deal. BF loved the Island Sangria. Highly recommend Pluma Iberica for pork eaters. Served with a delicious peanut sauce. Lucas took excellent care of us. First class waiter. The restaurant is in what appears to be a cave. Delightful atmosphere. Arcano boasts a wonderful atmosphere and high-end service with each dish prepared by care by chefs in the open-air kitchen. Our sampling of the menu was small, but included: A welcome taste of Potato Brava is provided to patrons upon arrival - the sample is not fried (as is the tradition) but instead uses one half of a boiled red potato -- sauce was delic. I can't help but compliment that table olive oil - we would have drunk it by the tureen. To accent, we ordered a small loaf of gluten-free artisanal bread to deliver this elixir. Yum! Really enjoyed the pesto infused burrata with three warmed tomato varietals on a bed of bean sprouts. Really flavorful! Wheeeeeew. We heard from an acquaintance that this was the best meal he's ever had, so we obviously had to put Arcano on our must eat list for Barcelona. We made a reservation a couple of weeks in advance (definitely do this) and were seated very quickly. The space is gorgeous. They did a wonderful job of making you feel like you're in a wine cave? It's a bit dark, but that only adds to the moodiness of the space. Service was excellent and efficient! Our servers were awesome in recommending wines and dishes for us to try. The best thing I've ever eaten in my life was the patatas bravas. Order double. You will not regret it, because you won't find better in Barcelona! Our other food was good too (the only thing that we didn't love was the curry ravioli - which is found all over Barcelona). And the wines! So many great wines. Arcano was the best meal I had in Barcelona. My husband had come with coworkers and knew to make a reservation. Once you find the ornate doors in the Barri Gotic, you enter a dimly lit room with stone walls - such great ambience. We had two wonderful starters here: first, the ubiquitous bread with tomato and olive oil, found all over Spain. (They executed it flawlessly here though.) The second dish was a plate of grilled vegetables with a dab of romesco sauce. Not only were the variety of vegetables cooked perfectly, they were also displayed in such a visually beautiful way. I ordered the Filet Argentí Angus and it was wonderful. Everything was so filling and delicious we had no room for dessert. The next table over ordered the cheesecake with berries though and it looked amazing. I would absolutely encourage you to make a stop at Arcano if you can. read more

We stumbled in here and luckily they had a table available. It had actually been on my "must-try" list but I didn't realize until we sat down. We did one of the meals for two, which was a great deal. The food was really delicious and honestly too much to finish. Unfortunately our server was not very nice and treated us pretty poorly, so even 2 months after eating there, it's what sticks out to us. I thought maybe because we were American, but other Americans sat down and he was fine towards them. He would leave us waiting for long periods and just continue to go back to other tables. I even watched the chef have to ring the bell multiple times and then go to him to get him to pickup our food. Everyone received bread at their table, we didn't. It seemed like everyone was getting water included, not sure, but we definitely were paying for it. Would we go back? No honestly. Although the food was great, if we visited the city again we would find another place that I'm sure would also have amazing food but nicer service. I wouldn't recommend either for this reason. 11/10 experience. From the moment we came in, my boyfriend said "wow you know it's going to taste good just from the looks of the restaurant." He's often right and this was no exception. The food was impeccable and the service was amazing. They bring you each dish hot and ready to go and while I could have waited a hair longer in-between dishes, I didn't feel too rushed. From the start, the food was amazing. We had three apps - the pesto-infused burrata, the grilled octopus and the veal ravioli. The pesto-infused burrata was infused in front of us by our waiter in a fun syringe-like fashion. The grilled tomatoes that came paired with the burrata as well as the tomato bread were savory perfection. The grilled octopus was cooked perfectly and sat atop a bed of puréed potatoes, with another purple potato purée on top. I loved it as the octopus was meaty and hearty. The veal ravioli was bathed in a cream sauce and so very good. The presentation was also so pretty. This is all before our lamb course main and we were splitting a bottle of local red wine. By the time we did reach our entree, we were nearly stuffed but these lollipop lamb chops were succulent and cooked to medium perfection. The best meal we had while visiting Barcelona! This was suggested by our concierge at our hotel and they even made reservations for us. It was a 3 mi Ute walk from our hotel and it was the most amazing dining experience. The restaurant is carved within a cave and we sat at the bar. Bar or table- you cannot go wrong either way- but be sure to make a reservation. Every bite of our meal was amazing from the Tomato Bread and cheese plate to start and I had the delicious skirt steak while my husband enjoyed the lamb. Our waitress was a delight and gave suggestions about what we should see in the area and watching the bartender make drinks was amazing. Concentrating on every detail. These are not your run of the mill drinks. These were so professional and he is dedicated to the flavors and appearance of his craft. It was our best night. Our best meal. We will be back. The servers were quick to offer water and take drink orders. Sadly their lunch crowd depleted the casa de vermuth. We enjoyed our starters of tomatoes and olives. Big meaty ripe tomatoes topped with pickled onion. The softball sized mozzarella was injected table side with pesto. These starters are big and easy to share. Our meals of tuna and ribeye steak were very good. Passing on dessert, the slate cheese plate offered 5 tasty types. Arcano is a winning dining restaurant. read more

Located off a side alley is this very beautiful restaurant. Inside is dimly lite up and has a classy ambiance. We got seats right by the window so we didn't go far in. The restaurant is only about 20- 25 feet wide so it's pretty tight in there. We didn't have a reservation but was able to get seated at the last table they had. It was packed full. The have three set menus that include appetizers and your choice of 3-4 main dishes. There was a pork with peanut butter sauce, salmon, steak and a few others. You can also order Alacart which maybe would have been better for us. We had duck on mixed greens. Tomato on toasted bread, steak tartar, grilled octopus, the prime rib steak and my wife had the pork. We were to full and had our dessert packed for take away. Everything was delicious, even the steak tartar which we would never order. It tasted like poke and had a nice spice to it. If it was poke we would have inhaled it all. Wish we took better pictures of the food but most were half eaten which just doesn't do it justice. Our bill was 58 euro each for the dinner and 85 euro for the bottle of wine. No tip here in Spain so made this meal seem affordable. Would definitely eat here again. read more

I have been here twice and the primary advice I have is, MAKE A RESERVATION. Also of note, they have a menu in English and there is some interesting stuff on it: Iberian pork, peanut cream and smoked sweet potato is really tasty, as is the Grilled octopus with chimichurri over parmentier. This was a "special occasion" dinner for us. I had wrapped up a week of work and my wife had joined me in Barcelona, so I made a reservation so that we could have a nice meal. I am sure that she got some great photos of the food. Sadly, I did not. During my prior visit, we ordered from the set menus, and that gives an opportunity to try a wide range of items on the menu for a pretty reasonable price. If you're adventurous, I highly recommend that. We decided to "build your own" this time and started with the classic tomato bread. It was executed well with crispy, crusty bread and simple tomatoes and olive oil. you can tell that some of the menu items have been translated in the way og Google translate, but you get the idea. We wanted some vegetables after so many meat and seafood meals throughout the prevous week, so we had the "Selection of seasonal vegetables cooked in different ways and romesco sauce." I am sure the vegetables vary, but these were presented beautifully and there were enough to share. I would have liked a bit more romesco sauce, though. (some of our veggies were zucchini, heart of palm, artichoke, a grilled white root vegetable that I could not identify, mushrooms and more) We each had beef steaks which were prepared well. I had mashed potatoes which were good and my wife had fries. She had the Mahon cheese sauce while I went with chimichurri. The sauces were good, though probably unnecessary since the beef was quite tasty on its own with just a bit of salt. We barely finished all of the food we ordered and did not have room for dessert, but the "Cheesecake with red fruits" ordered by the table next to us looked very good. The place can be a little hard to find, especially if you have an early reservation and they have not opened yet, but it is really nice inside -- like eating in a cave. There is not much space to wait (except in the alley outside), so make sure you arrive at your reservation time and not too much earlier. read more

I have visited and tried many of their amazing creations over the years, but my last visit stands out as the best of them all. They have re-worked their menu after Covid to include a tasting menu for two or more people. I usually come by myself and order from the a la carte menu. The tasting menu allowed us to sample a few things that I haven't tried. The first course came with two appetizers. We chose the tuna tartare as one choice. I've had the tuna tartare before, but they have upped their game. This was one of the best tuna tartare I think I have ever had. It was fresh with the flavors perfectly blended. The hard pita-like chips blended perfectly and gave a nice crunch. We could have had two more, easily! For dinner we ordered the Japanese soy tuna and rib eye. WOW! I'm not sure which one was better, but it didn't matter as we shared both. I've had the Japanese soy tuna before but, again, for some reason the quality and taste seemed to me to be on a higher level. Both were excellent and I highly recommend either to try. The dessert came with the tasting menu and arrived with two beautiful presentations. Marcelo was our server. He's been my server many times before. He always makes the meal even more pleasant with his helpful suggestions and excellent service. Thank you, Marcelo. If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would. First of all this is a beautiful space. I love the stone walls and combo of metal and wood. It feels warm and cozy instantly. The food is delicious as well. I'd suggest ordering a lot of everything because it was all delicious and our server was able to quickly provide recommendations if we were uncertain. Staff speak English as well so that was another bonus with the menu being translated into multiple languages. It's a little more on the pricey side but well worth it.
