Make sure you go in hungry, because even though it is small portions, they are still a good size and you will be stuffed. Happily stuffed because everything is excellent. We felt bad not finishing everything because it was so good but couldn't eat all the food. And the price for it was excellent. For the main course, my friend got the beef cheeks (first time trying it) and I had the lamb. Both were delicious! Cooked just right and well-seasoned. Viana was host to our bachelorette party's big fancy dinner in Barcelona. The ambiance inside is very chic and the service was magnificent. You can choose to indulge in a €65 menu which includes a variety of starters, a main of choice, and dessert, plus a bottle of wine for every four individuals. I was happily surprised to see that they offered a dedicated vegan friendly prix fare menu so that I could be a part of my party's dinner. The waiter was able to explain the menu options to me and even shared honest feedback about their recommendations. I chose to go with their mushroom paella as my main since it sounded heartier than the other option, and they agreed. As our food came out, I was given individual vegan dishes that honestly looked better than my friend's meat options. Loved their stuffed tomato and stir-fried tofu and veggies. They even deconstructed a complimentary starter to make it vegan for me to enjoy. The veggie paella I had here was the best of the bunch from my time in Barcelona. I was pretty tired of it by this point but was able to enjoy that and the fresh fruit at the end as my dessert. We stayed for nearly 3 hours for the meal which seems so commonplace in Spain. All of the food tasted great, but my favorites were the salmon, burrata, octopus and scallop. The one tapas item we were looking for that they didnt have was Spanish tortilla. The waitress told us we could order each of croquettes as 5 and they would charge accordingly instead of ordering 2 sets of 4, which we were going to do originally. I appreciate that she did not just upsell us and gave us the more convenient option. The restaurant was very full so we had 5 people sitting at the bar near the door which wasn't the most comfortable, but given how crowded it was I can't judge them very hard for accommodating us however they could. My sister wandered into her on her first day in Barcelona and then we went here when we ended up not being able to get into another restaurant without reservations. I think the service here was my favorite part. Everyone was just so friendly!!! We got a smattering of things but my favorite was the scallop and the suckling pig! A hidden gem! This very unassuming place is hitting all the right notes. Just walking in you're greeted with such welcoming energy. The staff makes you feel right at home. Out of all the European countries we spent our summer vacation recently, Barcelona stood out for us in terms of having the best weather and food! There was honestly no bad meal in Barcelona, the tapas and vinos were all incredible. But if we have to recommend just one place, Viana comes to mind. Viana came highly recommended to us by a wonderful family we met during our Food tour in Montmartre in Paris so we definitely reserved ahead! I will say that it's worth the splurge and the wait (we fasted 24 hours to ensure we can enjoy this as our OMAD (one meal a day). The biggest surprise is being welcomed by the warmest and nicest Filipino crew (thank you for the complimentary Cava for our anniversary trip!) and discovering that most of the chefs are Filipinos as well. Made me so very proud! Everything was so amazing that despite the no tipping necessary mentality in Europe, I insisted on us adding 20 euros as tip. The best part is getting to enjoy and soak up all the fun vibes and energy at Placa Real after as the restaurant is within steps from it. We had a reservation, and it definitely looked like we needed it; I didn't see any empty tables. The service was very fast, and the QR code menu with pictures was helpful. From the moment we stepped in the door and we're greeted so kindly by the gentleman behind the bar to the incredible service at dinner, everything exceeded expectations! Viana was highly recommended, and reservations are strongly encouraged. I emailed weeks ahead of time to secure an early 6:30 pm reservation for the two of us. I'm so glad I did because it was also relatively small with a super narrow and packed walkway into the dining room. In fact leaving the restaurant after our meal I felt like a sardine trying to escape my can, but without any oil to help squeeze me out. It's definitely a one way street in and out of there :) It was 100% worth it though, as this meal quickly became one of our favorites of the trip. I imagine you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. It's more of an outside-the-box approach to some more traditional tapas and regional favorites. We skipped our usual sangria and opted for the highly recommended blackberry mojito, bursting with lime, mint, and fresh blackberry flavor, topped with a blackberry, raspberry, and gooseberry garnish, a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds, and fresh mint. This is absolutely worth getting! The table next to us ordered several rounds. Our complimentary amuse bouche was a skewered mozzeralla ball and cherry tomato topped with an herby sauce, although we didn't get much from the sauce. It tasted pretty simple, yet fresh. The patatas bravas Viana style were our FAVORITE patatas bravas of the week! Let me repeat that. Our FAVORITE patatas bravas of the week! They are comprised of mostly white but some sweet potato, and topped with the traditional bravas sauce and allioli, as well as a sprinkle of mild chili flakes. It was truly sensational. I know it's hard to imagine that an already delicious tapas dish like patatas bravas could possibly get any better, but these are seriously a cut above the rest! The presentation is also completely precious in its tiny little frying pan-shaped serving dish. We also tried the prawn and vegetable rolls. These thin spring rolls are stuffed with plump prawns, julienned carrot, zucchini and herbs, and served with sweet chili sauce. We loved these! You'd think that if you've had one spring roll you've had them all, but nope, not true at all. They are worth it. Another highly recommended dish is the slow cooked beef cheeks with sweet potato and cinnamon puree. My sister didn't seem as thrilled with the idea of beef cheeks until the dish arrived, and then she basically lost her mind. In a good way. These beef cheeks are yet another absolute must if/when visiting Viana. The beef is fall-apart tender with an incredibly flavorful, rich, and umami sauce (we got extra on the side!), and a sweet and comforting side that just pairs perfectly with it. It was undeniably impossible to match the splendor of the beef cheeks with any other entree choice, but we tried. The codfish in blood orange sauce, with apple, spinach, and yucca chips is a very unusual fish preparation. The cod itself was cooked perfectly, however the fruit pairing was just a bit too sweet for us. Fish and fruit is an odd combo, but we gave it a try, and it just fell short, especially next to the beef cheeks. No room for actual dessert, but Arek who I'm guessing is the GM, and the one I corresponded with via email to make my reservation, brought over our check along with complimentary shots of white chocolate liquor for our "liquid dessert." Although this is clearly such a popular and busy spot, Arek personally stopped by each table at the end of the meal. Kudos to him and the rest of the staff for knocking it out of the park. We came to Viana as a recommendation from YouTube. It was a must try based on the recommendation from this particular channel. My husband immediately made the reservation so we could try it. The inside is elegant and the seating was rather spacious compared to some other restaurants in Barcelona. There aren't many seats, so if you are thinking of this place, I highly recommend getting a reservation. The service was of course spectacular as it seems to be in Barcelona. We had multiple servers assisting us and they were all very helpful and attentive. For an appetizer, we got the homemade octopus and squid croquettes. I absolutely love croquettes and these are spectacular. The inside is black due to the squid ink and just bursting with flavor. The outside is crunchy and it's just ooey gooey inside. I loved them. For my entree, I got the pig with pear chutney , green pea puree, and parmesan creme. My husband ordered the prime rib with broccoli and potato wedges. Everything was delicious. The pork was cooked perfectly and the pear chutney was perfect. I wish there was more green pea puree as the texture and flavor was great. There wasn't much food in the entrees though. Everything was pretty small. I would say the pork was about 3 bites. You can definitely do more tapas style here even though they present the menu as entree and tapas or appetizers. The green pea puree was just a little dollop to accent the pork and didn't add much subsidence except flavor. This is just something to think about if you come hungry. While traveling to Barcelona I decided to come to Viana based on the positive reviews and I must say the food did not disappoint. My party of 2 arrived at the restaurant around 730 without a reservation (I definitely recommend making one because the restaurant was packed at this time) but luckily they were able to squeeze us in at a table along the wall after only a 5 minute wait. For drinks we ordered the blackberry Mojito and the Sangria, both of which were really good. We weren't extremely hungry so we decided to skip the tapas/starters and go straight for the main entrees. We ordered the Suckling Pig with Pear Chutney and the Codfish in blood orange sauce, both were delicious and seasoned well. For dessert the cheesecake (mousse?) with raspberry/passion fruit foam and the house Torrija was decent not amazing. Overall I would come the Viana again based on the food and the friendly staff, the only reason I dropped my rating by 1 star is we felt a little forgotten about at times (the waiter never brought us water that we requested and it took extremely long to get our check once we finished the meal, we had to ask for it twice). read more

If you're looking for a fine dining experience without necessarily breaking the bank, consider Viana. It's conveniently located several hundred meters from Las Ramblas. Although it's location can be quite sketchy (off the main road and down a small alley), don't let it deter you. Immediately when you walk in, you'll realize the small space. There were only 2 tables that can seat a party of 4 comfortably, several tables lined up to seat parties of 2, and bar seating. I highly recommend setting up a reservation ahed of time or else you'll be expected to wait 1 hour or longer. Now for the food. Keep in mind that we only ordered dishes without meat as we were observing Lent. For the appetizers/tapas, we ordered the patatas bravas amd Galician octopus. The potatoes were probably the BEST potatoes I've had in my life. The potatoes must have been cooked with garlic and the sauce paired so well with it. The octopus was a great dish as well. I love seaweed but for those who may not, the foam gives just a subtle taste that doesn't overpower the octopus. For my main course, I ordered the carnaroli rice with mushrooms and foie and my parents ordered the codfish. Both were delicious! Lastly for dessert, we had the cheesecake and house torrija. I would recommend this to anyone not looking for a decadent and overly sweet dessert. Apart from the food, the service was wonderful as well. Only problem was that we paid 11 euros for an exceedingly small portion size... Gallician octopus in tempura: The octopus was also really good and tender. The dishes are very nicely thought out, and I appreciated the potato and seaweed foam that nicely complemented the octopus. Squid croquetas: These were a special, they were nice and crispy on the outside and savory and rich on the inside. Bread (1 euro): Something like this should be complimentary... especially at a restaurant this expensive Sangria: We got a pitcher for 14 euros, which wasn't too bad. Filled with fresh fruit and tasted great. We ended up paying for "still" water, which came in an unmarked vase (well, it said Viana) on it. MAKE SURE that you specify you want tap unless you want to get scammed. Okay, I have to say that the food was all pretty good, but we were left SO hungry afterwards.
