There was a very scary looking line when I arrived that looked like it would take hours, but if you are alone and willing to stand at the bar, you can definitely get seated within 30mins as it moves fairly quickly (though I'm unsure about larger parties). The vibe inside is incredible, and there is so much to take in. The servers are all very friendly and chatty, and if you're solo dining like I was, you definitely will not be bored! For the food, I just asked my server what he recommended and kept getting dishes until I was full. The food was super flavorful, fresh, and delicious without being too heavy or oily. We were visiting Barcelona and were recommended to eat here for tapas. We were warned that we'd wait in line and we did- around an hour. Once inside, we were seated at a very small table (the entire restaurant is very small) and greeted by our waiter with a big personality. I would say if you are a bigger person you'd find the seating uncomfortable. We had the pork ribs, sausage, pasta, and calamari. All very good. This historic, tiny tapas bar which is pronounced champagn-yet and means "little champagne" was one of our favorite tapas spots in Spain! It has been around since 1929 and serves it's own house-made Cava; we enjoyed a botte there and took a bottle home. The food was out of this world, and great service from Richard. Recommend coming here if your visiting Barcelona! It's one of the most popular tapas restauraunts. We waited in line at 11:45AM for 12PM lunch opening on Tuesday as we heard that the lunch wait is much shorter than dinner wait. There was already a small line but we were able to be seated at opening. It's quite small inside with some tables but if you don't get a table you can eat while standing at the bar. We also saw two tables outside as well. I highly recommend the squid and codfish omelette those were my absolute favorite dishes and deserve a 5 star!!! My favourite tapas place in all of Barcelona. We stopped by on a weekday and still had a good 30 mins wait. Trust me its worth it. We immediately ordered their tapas, house cava and vermut. We tried their razor clams, Catalan style pasta, perol sausage, iberian pork with grilled peppers and their chocolate truffles with olive oil. Everything at El Xampanyet was phenomenal! Food was delicious; fresh, full of flavor, and came out quickly. Of particular note was the black and white beans and the pork with peppers. So good! Service was helpful, fun, and multilingual. Menus were also available in multiple languages. This is a touristy area, but the restaurant had a very homey feeling. The space is very tight and the bathroom is basically a refrigerator box with a toilet. If you're claustrophobic, this may not be the place for you. They're open Tuesdays to Saturdays at 12pm for lunch, so we were aiming for that. It was our first day in Barcelona and after landing at 8am, we desperately needed food. I, however, got very distracted by the neighborhood, so we ended up getting on the line around 11:55am, which meant there was a decent line up when they opened. We managed to get into the first round though, so that was great. To drink, I had a glass of their house sparkling wine, which was actually really good and very cheap. To eat, we had grilled razor clams, stewed octopus, ibérico ham, a hard cheese, and tuna with grilled leeks. Everything was really good but I think the favorites were the grilled razor clams and the octopus. By the time we left, there was a line down the block. The grilled pork was really good, high quality, and tender. The calamari was also super tender and flavorful in the oils and sauce. Wine was good and service was quick. I waited in line for a while and had to stand at the bar to eat when it was my turn, and that's how popular this place is. The staffs were incredibly friendly considering how busy they were the whole time. Two of the six dishes I ordered tasted great(squid ink bean, razor clam). The rest tasted decent, but not amazing to me. I think most of the dishes were too salty for me. But we settled for a standing table outside. Their house wine is so cheap and on everyone's table. Tender, well seasoned with salt and the peppers it came with went really well with fhe meaf. However, the bread was alright. They have fresh beer as in cerversa fresca de barril and we got one. Estrella. So refreshing and delicious!! EUR2.90 for a little less than a pint. Overall, recommend coming here right when they open. We took a taxi to arrive 30 minutes before the opening time (7pm), stood in line with easily 30+ people before us and soon just as many after. The sausage (Butifarra del Perol) was good with a different texture, the anchovies was very salty, although seemed popular but not for me. We were disappointed at the grilled shell on shrimps (Gamba Costa Planxa), we can't even peel it because the shrimp was so mushy; onion in the sauce was tasty and the best part of the dish.
