For charm points, the inside of this place is exactly the kind of old-world Barcelona restaurant I pictured before coming here. It is tight inside, and we were tucked into the back room, but in a cozy way. Service is slow in that classic European way, not sad slow, but the kind of slow that reminds you to savor the moment because you are on vacation. The menu descriptions were a little vague, so we took a few stabs in the dark. The eggplant dish we ordered ended up being my favorite, and the hummus with lamb was also very good. I usually love olives, but these did not hit for me. They were a bit too dry and firm, so buyer beware if you are picky about olives. All in all, a charming spot for a romantic vacation dinner.

Lamb shoulder, roasted potato and Iberian ham

We went here our last night in Barcelona. It's very small with a gothic feel. Our waiter was amazing. We enjoyed every dish that we had here. Our favorites was the baked potato topped with a yummy sauce. The potato was so tender and flavorful. We had the beef boa buns. The bun was so tender and the beef had these amazing Asian flavors. It was sweet, savory and juicy! The lamb shoulder was so so tender and seasoned perfectly. I'm salivating just thinking about it. We had two orders of the Iberian ham b/c hello! The ham in Spain is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this place.

Cool little spot with really interesting decor - kind of moody, vintage, and tucked-away feeling. Definitely a unique vibe that makes it worth checking out. The tapas were decent overall. The bao was actually really good - soft, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. But I wasn't a fan of the octopus (a little chewy for my taste) and the lamb shoulder was way too gamey for me. Service was friendly and the place has character, but food-wise it was hit or miss.

Our first meal after arriving in Barcelona was at La Alcoba Azul - Tapas. The three dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious, and we were in a great mood. However, the beautiful waitress working outside under the blue tents had an extremely bad attitude. Even though the bill already included a 10% service charge, she insisted on adding an extra 15% tip, claiming it was the European tipping tradition. I told her the service charge was already included. She only gave us our change very reluctantly, then shouted behind our back: "Never come back!" Our perfect mood was completely ruined by her.

Samples sardines were great, but on the saltier side so could've been accompanied with some bread. Sea bass tiradito had a complex ensemble of flavors, as the ceviche blended well with the crunch of the peanuts and umami of the seaweed. The pork shoulder was tender while the confit had a pleasant taste. The Brie and pork belly toast again used texture contrast well with its almonds. Cod carpaccio was fresh and light.

We absolutely loved this dungeon of a restaurant. It's low-lit, intimate, cool (both literally & figuratively), & a perfect place for small bites & drinks with friends. Allergens were clearly marked on the menu, which made it easy to determine what was gluten-free. Lots of gluten-free options! We ordered a variety of things from the menu, from reliable dishes to unknowns, & were pleased with all of it. One of my favorite dishes was the stuffed & baked red peppers with goat cheese & rose jam. It looked like a piece of contemporary art & tasted incredible. Our server was nice & tolerated our limited Spanish. Tapas & drinks were medium+ priced but absolutely worth the money. La Alcoba Azul was of our favorite stops in Barcelona - I highly recommend!

Upon the recommendation of a friend, we tried this place out on our first night in Barcelona. We were blown away and didn't realize how great it was until some British tourists said they tried this place, and they were here all week and this best food they ate on their entire trip. The experience begins with a complimentary tapa and then your best off just outing yourself into the waiters' hands for what is good that night. We have olives, Couscous, cheeses, little humus tapas. All awesome. The hospitality is off the charts.

Decent tapas spot. We had dinner here with friends. Service was ok and the food was good. Not exactly the most innovative tapas in Barcelona but we enjoyed the food and the company.

The food was incredible, that's all I can say. The service was pretty good considering Spanish standard while still attentive. The vibes were perfect for the spectacular meal that was presented to us.

My Spain Adventure begins! I touched down in Barcelona on Thursday and really have been loving the food. We kinda just found this place on a whim but I'm so happy we did. La Alcoba Azul sports a cool tavern-like ambiance that feels really unique. If you see my pictures you'll know what I mean. I also really appreciated that they had multiple menus for different languages. So first off I want to add that they have amazing cocktails. My favorite was the La Alcoba Mezcalera. I loved the Mezcalera. Theres something about the smokiness of Scoth and Mezcal that I adore, so I tend to always gravitate towards these drinks. The Mezcalera in general has a nice smokiness and citrus taste at the start but a nice sweet agave and spicy finish. I highly recommend it if you are a Mezcal fan. As for food if you don't know what to get I definitely would start with the I Iberian Pork Shoulder. You get a good amount and the mojo and piquello peppers are an amazing compliment to the meat. The beauty of tapas to me is that you get to try so much. When you bring a lot of people you get to try even more. I always feel like I eat till it's just enough. It's never about trying to overindulge. It's more like about just enjoying the company of those around you and trying new things. My girlfriends dad for example ordered the Picked Cod; something I normally would never order. I seriously thought it was going to be way to pickly but it was the perfect amount of pickledness. So far this place is the only place out of the 3 days here that I've gone to twice.

Cod carpaccio

A small narrow space with tables and benches jammed up against the walls, dark low lighting, and a well in the floor. The very definition of a hole in the wall restaurant as it feels like it was carved out of stone and you are sitting in a cave. Very atmospheric. The food is amazing. We had the Burratina salad, Cod carpaccio and the Iberian loin of pork. The salad was so good that I took a picture of the ingrediants to recreate when I get home. Cod carpaccio is a generous serving of fish with sparks of flavour depending on what you choose on your fork. Iberian pork was fall apart deliciousness. Such good tapas and friendly service. Don't pass this place up!

Lovely ambiance, low lux levels made the atmosphere intimate and cozy. Food was great, we went there for a snack and wine. The service was swift and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a cozy, tasty retreat.

This place is a literal hole in the wall. The width of the restaurant is about the width of 2 doors. Rather dark place with several 2 person small tables lined up against the wall. I believe there is an enclosed outdoor patio. They have a table for medium sized group on the inside. They served us a free tapa with mashed potatoes. It was tasty. We ordered this tapas that was like chicken ceasar on flatbread. Wow, it was messy but tasty. Sangria was yummy as well. Service was pretty fast. Waitstaff was incredibly nice. I love these kind of places for the unique experience.

Great food, great drinks, great service and great atmosphere, but they played American 70s music which felt out of place.

We got great seats at the bar. Our bartender (David, I think) was very friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled. The menu is a light-up book that has fun illustrations and useful descriptions in it, including flavors, alcohol level, and a drawing of the cocktail itself. I really like when menus show this much info. Our first round was the Subterranium and Atlantide. They were both delicious and interesting flavors. They also came with tiny bites and in interesting glassware. Our second round, the Ramses and Great Gatsby, were similarly interesting, but we liked them a bit less. David gave us some gratis truffle amaro (also delicious) on the way out. I highly recommend a stop, especially if you can sit at the bar.

I came around 5pm on a Saturday, and it only took 20 minutes to get in. The bartenders were super friendly and spoke english which was a bonus. Their menu is constantly changing, so I forget the names of the drinks we ordered, but I also ordered a regular old fashion and they nailed it. I noticed another guest being a little rude to one of the bartenders. She was complaining about her drink so they made a new one, and another one after that. Had it been me, I probably would've gave up and asked them to leave lol, but they did not. Instead the opposite, which is very telling of the type of service you'll receive at this place. Overall this was my favorite cocktail bar in Spain, would I go again? Absolutely!

Really enjoyed this bar and we can see why it's been named in the top 50 bars…read more The bartender was really engaging with the people which we enjoyed. The drinks were 8/10 The ambiance was generic but we had a good time. Definitely recommend trying it.

Wow did we want to give this place 5 stars…read more The bartenders were great and welcoming and the decor was very cool. It is a pleasant place to be physically. All of the cocktails we tried were excellent (we had two more not featured on photos here). We went Sunday 4/19 around open (5pm ish until 7:30 ish). However, our experience was sort of ruined when a female employee came over and chided my wife and two other American patrons we were talking to for being too loud. They weren't being particularly loud and at this point we were the only four people sitting at the bar itself. She was not a bartender (at that time at least) and she completely ruined our vibe with this complaint. She had been eyeing one of the other American patrons we had been talking to before she came over and confronted my wife after she laughed. The bar tenders didn't seem to be aware this happened and when we were closing out they remarked they didn't think we had been loud and that they like their guests to have fun. This female employee apparently didn't get the memo! We sense that perhaps she just dislikes Americans, which would be rich for working at an establishment like this! She also had no issues when a dog other guests brought in barked loudly multiple times, each time silencing the entire bar because the barks were so booming. The other American couple felt the same way -- the stern talking to just ruined the experience for all four of us. So... great spot but our experience was unnecessarily tarnished by a jerk employee!!!
