I came here during my stay at Barcelona under the recommendation of a friend I was traveling with who visited this restaurant in the past. Sensi offered me one of the best dining experiences I have ever been part of. Each dish was better than the last and extremely unique. This is not your classic or most traditional tapas experience. The dishes are modern and offer a different experience than your typical Spanish tapas. I must say, the food is some of the best I have tried in my travels. Our group of four tried about 75% of the food menu and everything was spectacular. The ambience and the waitress was very friendly and I never felt she was bothering us. No matter... The food is very mediocre if you have tried the other options in Barcelona. Vegan and vegetarian diners may like this place as there are more options in that regard. Blanched carrots can only go so far... Otherwise everything was lackluster if you are a foodie and have enjoyed Spanish cuisine, the croquettes are filled with béchamel and little to no protein with a soggy crust. The rice was not cooked all the way and the flavor deplorable compared to what we tried everywhere else. The bravas which... should not be easily messed up tasted like soggy tater tots. The sauce was a mixture of the spicy tomato and aioli which only tasted like sriracha sauce. Worst was the hostess honestly. Great atmosphere and great experience at this tiny Barcelona tapas spot. We'd been waiting a while to be able to book Sensi. The experience was great! Let's start with the best of the best in our choices. The tuna tartare was one of the best I've had. The presentation was spectacular with the lite rosemary and the taste did not disappoint. Up there as well was the truffle ravioli, which was a flavor explosion. The lovely ravioli morsels had just the right amount of chew, and the truffle cream was out of this world! The meal had many more starts, including the oxtail croquets. Crispy on the outside and tender flaky deliciousness on the inside. The Iberian ham and the cheese plate were also solid. We finished strong with the crème brûlée, an absolutely solid desert. Oh and do the provide bad wine in Spain? We were recommended a great little Catalunya Pinot Noir. First off, such friendly service. Loved the atmosphere, everyone just hanging out munching on tapas. The inside can get crowded, tables and chairs are close together. We came on a monday night and it got crowded fast. From Google, we made a reservation for 6:30pm (1830 for the Europeans and military people), and it was pretty empty. By 7pm all the seats were filled. Ordered tapas style and everything does not come at once. Usually two at a time, but everything is cooking while you're trying the first tapas so it's all fresh and hot. So fun experience to just sip wine and nibble on food, but not a place at all if you're in a rush. The tapas are shown in the attached pics, and while everything was decent, nothing made me say "I need to come back for this dish!". Fun first experience though. read more

Stumbled into Sensi and was lucky enough to be seated immediately. What a great time :) The food was so delightful. Lots of umami and salt and smoke. The tuna with smoking rosemary was such a treat, though it seems it may be overpowering, it gives just the right flavor to the fish. The iberico ham is of course delicious. The mini paella was yummy, but not great. And the leek soufflé was not really a soufflé in my opinion, as it was quite heavy. Scallops were wonderful! It is tapas style so bring an empty tummy, and a friend or two, and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. Staff buzz about giving a lively energy with out anything feeling stressful. Some may not like it but I was thrilled to sit in front of the kitchen. I was able to watch, and smell every dish come out as two large men worked in perfect unison in the tiny kitchen. I'd love to post tte awesome time lapse video but I'm not sure how. It might not be the most fancy or expensive tapas spot in Barcelona or even in the Gòtic area, but I thought it was great. A hit and definitive thumbs up!! Following the reviews on Yelp, Sensi was unquestionably on the to-go list. The place is small (but still "gigantic" compared to what I visited in the subsequent week) with neighboring tables back to back. It doesn't matter. Hector, the waiter, offered excellent recommendations with about 2-3 items per person: without any exceptions, the food was suuuuper delicious, nicely presented (for example on slate blackboards), and simply a joy. Examples included Fresh Truffle Ravioli, Seabass Ceviche, Octopus oven-baked with caramelized onions, Tuna Tataki, Brocoli Cream with smoked Tofu and Yuca chips, Coca Bread, Chef-style Brava Potatoes. It would have been enough! But fortunately, I did not resist the Espresso Martini (wow: superb!!) and the Cheesecake with Dulce Leche (the best!!). Tip 1: Don't miss out on this one. Tip 2: Apparently, there are other Sensi establishments opening up that probably are worth trying. Average from beginning to end. I was really looking forward to this meal and in the end, left feeling very 'meh' about the entire experience. I was the first one at the door at 6:20 for an opening at 6:30. I just happened to get there sooner than expected. Despite that, I was the last one allowed in because I didnt have a reservation. See, their website specifically states "for day of reservations, please call..." but why call when I'm already in the neighbourhood. With the hot, sticky weather, it left me feeling rather... undervalued right from the get-go. Waiter was very nice, advised that they typically suggest 2-3 dishes/person. As I had not eaten at all yet this day, I opted for 3: patatas bravas, the baked octopus and the truffle ravioli. The patatas bravas were WAY too saucy and a little too much kick for my liking. The overkill on the sauce left the potatoes soggy. The baked octopus was fine... but nothing to write home about. And the truffle ravioli... I was really hoping there would be one dish that wasn't a disappointment and yet, this was just as average as the rest of it. Maybe one of the best restaurants we visited to our recent trip to Barcelona. I had bookmarked the restaurant for a trip and based on the reviews we were excited to check it out. The restaurant was very nice on the nicer side of tapas in the area and the service was exceptional. We were seated after a short wait of 10 mins or so. Have to love this about Barcelona, since everyone tapa hops from one spot to another the waits are short for tables. We glanced at the menu and went with the classic Ibéric Croquettas de Chorizo, Tuna Tatar, Pork Ribs and the Grilled Scallops. The portions were reasonable for tapas, not to small and not heavy. Enough to have wine, eat a few plates and move to the next spot. However, the food was so good, we said let's live and ordered tapa after tapa! The croquettas were exceptional! Perfect fried crust, sweet and salty meaty center, nice a fluffy, perfect texture. We ordered 1 set and ended up ordering another. The Tartar was exquisite, delicious with every bite! Especially the fresh tuna mixed with the avocado, this was so refreshing. The ribs were my favorite, a flavor explosion truly, fall off the bone. Very meaty and tasty so many flavors, again we ordered 1 and added another. The scallops were very delicious, very good texture, they nailed the pan seared on these. Not chewy at all. Sensi is exactly what Tapas should be. We were a group of four. We ordered twelve different items. Each was completely different. There were no repeats of flavors or presentations. One or two items stood out for each person in the group as fantastic. Some items less so. None were bad or uninteresting. The stand outs for me were the tuna tartare, grilled octopus, and believe it or not the potatoes bravas. Potatoes bravas are a simple dish and ubiquitous at tapas places, however at Sensi they are raised to an art. Exactly the crisp spicy exterior and creamy interior they should be but seldom achieved elsewhere. They were served with an understated aioli that perfectly complimented. What a treat. The servers are a fantastic team of energetic knowledgeable and friendly people. Questions about different items were thoughtfully, correctly, and honestly answered. The tables are tiny, but the staff were fully attentive and ensured new items were only delivered as room was made available by clearing empty plates. It looked like the entire place might seat twenty people. There is no outdoor seating. Reservations (I suggest doing so on-line) are required and don't expect to find an opening less than a week, possibly two, in advance. They are quite rigid on times and will not hold a table more than ten minutes beyond reserved time. There are also prescribed lengths of time which a group (based on number of people) may occupy a table. We thought this to be an affectation, but once there we understood the need. Our one hour and fifty minutes turned out to be ample. All in all, this tiny restaurant, on a tiny street, that was confusing to find, was absolutely worth the effort. Enjoy! read more

There are a few loves I have in life, travel, food and oh yeah my husband. I hit the jackpot which had me smiling from ear to ear when traveling in Barcelona with my husband and finding Sensi for dinner. When you have a love for delicious food tapas are the the absolute best because you can try so many delicious bites and leave full. We quickly and easily made a reservation online for shortly after they opened at 7pm because we were starving after a long day of traveling. We ordered the Sangria because when in Spain one must drink Sangria with their tapas (they even use paper straws!). After long deliberation since all the menu items sounded phenomenal we landed on: chorizo, burrata with cucumber and mint ice(our close second pick of the night), scallops(favorite of the night), cured salmon with mango, and of course we had to go for the paella! Everything was absolutely delicious although our top pick of the night was the scallops, I'm not sure the sauce that it had on top although it took everything inside of me not to lick the plate clean to avoid any drop of the sauce to remain uneaten. The service and space/decor here are great and they even end the meal with a complimentary shot of what I believe was limoncello. This is a must try if visiting Barcelona. So grab a friend venture down the back alleys of the gothic quarter and bring your appetite. You and you full tummy can thank me later! read more

If you've been following along with my European travels, hang on for yet another wild ride. Sensi is a strong contender for my favorite meal while dining out abroad. The ambiance, the service and the cuisine were all 10's, or in this case, 5's from the Gothic Quarter hot spot. A cozy table in the back of the restaurant made for the perfect setting for our meal. We sipped on aperitifs prior, Amaretto for me, which was exquisite. Then when the time was right, we placed our order. Burrata - three ways or three textures, the cheese melted and pretty much made love to my tongue. Piquillos - beautifully presented, garnished with pea cream and honey, this vegetarian-friendly dish had clashing flavors that gelled together in ways I didn't think were possible. Filet of Beef - one of the top pieces of filet I've ever had! the melt in your mouth texture gave my entire body sensations and gyrations that were unfamiliar to me, the black pepper sauce should be bottled and sold in big box stores. Fresh Truffle Ravioli - is it truffle season? because this ravioli was doused in truffles! the flavors were intense, anything but subtle, yet rich and bursting with earthy flavors and aromas, as good as the pasta in Italy. Seafood Paella - unfortunately I was beginning to fill up by this point and this dish didn't get the attention it deserved, after a few bites we gave up, following the rich pasta it just didn't work for our taste buds. The wait staff were real class acts. They were dealing with a large touristy group of young girls and they remained professional throughout the night. They took care of us like we were regulars.
