3.5 Sensi was a fancy spot for tapas in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. I'd highly recommend a reservation in advance as it gets extremely busy. Luckily the manager accommodated my group. The atmosphere is on the louder side but it's still has a nice ambience. The service was attentive and accommodating to explain any items on the menu we were unfamiliar with. Since we only had the table for an hour (without the reservation that's all they could accommodate), the service was fast. I ordered the chefs potatoes, the cod and the ravioli. The potatoes were fried and came with a spicy mayo - nothing too extravagant here but delicious nonetheless. The cod I have to say was quite amazing. Great flavour, and awesome presentation...little details like how finely cut the radish was really made a difference to me. The ravioli was also quite delicious. I'd recommend these 3 dishes for sure. Since it was tapas style, the dishes were small plates and you'd need 2-3 dishes to be full. We made reservations at Sensi about two months prior to arriving in Barcelona. Our reason for the selection of this particular restaurant was because of the diverse Tapas menu selections. Sensi is located in the characteristic Gothic district of Barcelona. We decide to walk to the restaurant from our hotel concierge recommendation. What we found quite amusing is that there were many locations named Sensi within yards from each other and I believe they were owned by the same group. Once we discovered the right location, we found the restaurant ambiance to be romantic and quite cozy. Sensi's dining room has stone walls, creative lighting, and wonderful choice of background music to compliment your dining experience. We decided on a various selection of Tapas to meet all of our party's interests. The duck pastry, grilled king prawns, vegetable and sweet chili, and the tuna tartar were all fabulous. One of the better Tapas places in the gothic quarters in Barcelona. Yes, it's still touristy and pricy, but at least it delivers. The service is impeccable and the food options are plentiful. We had sangria with the ahi tuna with mango salad, iberico ham, fried shrimp, octopus, cream of mushroom soup with poached egg, foie gras burger, and paella with chorizo. The waiter while nice kept asking us if we are sure we want to keep ordering given that we both look skinny and fit, worrying that we won't finish. The Sangria was delicious, as to be expected. Great tapas place. We were a 12 person multigenerational group which is hard to manage in any restaurant. The staff called me about our reservations and after a few tweaks we were all set. When we got to the restaurant we had a table with high chairs. Our.Boppa couldn't manage the seats and we asked if we could get a different table. In any other place I am sure the answer would have been, no. Instead they said, of course, and quickly set up seating in the upstairs area which was more comfortable and quieter. The service was excellent and our waiter was very patient with us. He made several recommendations tuna tartar, beef tenderloin, octopus, chorizo, barata salad. He even made sure for the kids their tapas had sauces on the side so that they wouldn't be turn off ( darn picky kids!) . Everyone enjoyed all the offerings. Sensi was the absolute highlight of our trip to Barcelona. A gastronomy experience like no other, brought a sophisticated flare to typical Spanish tapas that was anything but typical. The ambiance of Sensi tapas was excellent too--exposed brick and no BS, it was a tiny yet charming space that buzzed with activity and embraced its excellence without pretentiousness. To the meal: The jamón ibérico and los pimientos de padrón were not to be missed. At the same time, there was also an assortment of non-traditional offerings on the menu. The lamb slider was so deliciously tender, well-seasoned and delicately peeling apart in your mouth. The aubergine atop of a golden flaky pan tartan was delicious, as was the cool and refreshing tuna tartare with creamy avocado (which introduced an Asian flare to the meal). The burrata cheese over eggplant with an olive tapenade was also sublime, but I'm of course the opinion that it's hard to have a bad burrata. These tiny plates were all showstoppers--if we had discovered this spot earlier, we might've gone everyday of our trip! Things to know: 1. make reservations in advance. These seats book up fast. Email the restaurant a week ahead to secure your spot! 2. There are three different "Sensi" restaurants, all related and in close proximity to each other, so don't fret if you arrive at the wrong establishment. However, good to know to save yourself some time! 3. We had first gone to another tapas bar with good reviews, only to find out they didn't serve sangria. Fine ok, we'll have some tapas and try the other tapas bar around the corner. Same thing. Both waiters had told us "sangria is for tourists". So, instead of searching up "tapas", I looked for "sangria" instead, and voila we're here at Sensi. Ordered: + Sangria (ofc!) + White truffle ravioli + Seafood paella + Cheese platter + Mini burger LOVED all the food, esp the paella and ravioli. So flavorful, so good. I wouldn't recommend the cheese platter - they served 3 types of cheese that were alright. Go to France for the cheese - just next door with a one hour flight! There's a 2 tapa minimum per person. Bottled water is almost 3 euros, so bring your own. Service is good, waiters all speak English (probably also bc this is a tourist restaurant). Came here somewhat before the rush without reservations and had to wait a bit before we got seated at the bar. After ordering the manager told us that there was a cancellation and moved us to a table. This place is tiny so I would highly reco a reservation for parties 3+. We ordered the potatoes with some aioli sauce, the cheese plate w/ raspberry spread, the classic beef w/ gravy, the truffle ravioli, the seafood paella, and the mini oxtail burger. The stars of the night or dinner were the mini oxtail burger and the classic beef. The oxtail burger was tiny but the taste and impression it left on us was mighty. The patty was nicely seasoned and circular and was melt in your mouth deliciousness! The bun was nicely toasted as well. As for the classic beef dish, each element itself had a strong flavor and I was concerned the dish was going to be too much for me but glad I was wrong. The beef was melt in your mouth amazing topped with this amazing black peppery gravey with a thinly sliced bed of potatoes(almost potato mash-like feel to it). Eat this with each element and it is just a wonderful harmony of tastiness! The potato plate was a perfect starter and the cheese plate too. The cheeses varied, but none were particularly sharp or too strong. The raspberry spread complimented the cheeses well. The truffle ravioli was good and the truffle flavor was just enough for those who don't like the truffle taste to enjoy the dish. use the bread to dip in the leftover sauce. The seafood paella was no bueno (too salty). The server noticed our dislike right away and asked us about it. The manager said it was on the house and apologized right away. Our meal ended with a shot of a lemon drop like shot with the manager. We were very surprised with the level of attentiveness and awesomeness of the service and staff despite how busy they were. We found this place on Yelp as a good tapas place after a long walk and we didn't regret it. As we walked in the little cozy restaurant, we fell in love. Stuff was incredibly polite and they gave us a very nice table, even if we didn't make a reservation. We weren't much hungry, but we couldn't help it. We ordered one thing of cava sangria to share and it was enough for two of us. Cava sangria was just regular, nothing special about it. Then we started with Burrata and cucumber carpaccio with mint and red pesto, and it's amazingly refreshing and good, despite of how boring it sounds. Don't miss it! Next thing was Sauteed mussels with oriental sauce and the classic beef fillet. Beef fillet was really tender and nicely done, and mussels were satisfying. We left Fresh truffle ravioli in a parmesan cream for the end, and it was ammmmazing! We were already full by the time it was ready, but we just ate the whole thing. And that was not all.. we saw that they were selling their original denim aprons in the menu, and very polite manager helped us with it. MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT in all of Barcelona and one of my favorites of all time hands down! Try to make reservations if you plan to come because it's always extremely packed. My friend and I waited about and hour and a half to get in. Theres a slew of sister restaurants but I definitely thought this restaurants menu looked the best. I ordered the duck timbale, bbq ribs, patatas bravas, paella, and the truffle ravioli. The duck timbale was so flavorful-- at once sweet, savory, and buttery. It came in a small portion but every bite was amazing. There was a lot less duck than other elements like potato so I wish there was just a bit more duck since thats the centerpiece of the dish. The bbq ribs were pretty good but not as "fall off the bone" as i wanted. The patatas bravas was the best I had anywhere and I was seriously thinking about ordering some to take to go. The paella was amazing! Good flavors and lots of seafood in that tiny little plate. The truffle ravioli was a bit overwhelming but thats because I'm not a huge fan of the truffle flavor and it was overly creamy. But overall, everything had great flavors and these were the best tapas ever Sensi is a bit pricier than other tapas places but it was well worth the price and easily the best meal I had in Barcelona. We stayed in El Borne area and were skeptical about the places we may find in this local yet touristy spot. However, we saw so many great reviews of this place and we took a chance. Definitely worth the try. We sat at the bar because it was a little warm in the tables area and also because we realized that the bartender was really good and we wanted a great cocktail experience as well. Everyone loves this place. But I wasn't impressed. I think it requires a certain palate to enjoy the food and unfortunately, I didn't have it. We tried to go in one night without reservations to another location down the street but they were completely booked so we hopped to this one hoping to get in. I could barely see in there hahah. Anyway we ordered some drinks and asked the waiter for suggestions. We had to get paella and the patates bravas. In addition to that, we ordered a steak dish (can't remember the name), mussels and a cucumber dish recommended by the waiter. We got a bread basket and some drinks while we waited. Let me get to the worst part of the meal first - the cucumber salad. This stuff was SO nasty. It was chilled cucumber salad with burrata on top. Sounds good right? Wrong. What I didn't know was that they put mint granitas underneath the cucumbers. So it was sweet and minty, like a piece of gum, mixed with cucumber and the saltiness of the cheese. Nope nope nope. Just typing about it makes me want to gag. I don't know what kind of person would ever think that those things should go together. It was so gross. And on the pricier side. I did not like it. At all. The patates braves were ok. I had some better ones at other tapas places. I think the sauce makes the whole dish and so the sauce wasn't as good. The potatoes were also a bit soft for my liking, as I like them on the crispier side. The mussels were good but nothing special. The paella was a little salty, and I like salty. The rice was also a little hard. I know it's supposed to be different than other paella's but I wasn't impressed. The last dish was the steak and it was actually pretty good! The highlight of our meal. It was on top of some sort of scalloped potatoes and had a great sauce. If they had a full portion of it, I would have came back for it. The service was good and sangria was strong. I liked that they served the drink with a paper straw instead of plastic! Anyway, this review was pretty subjective to my tastes. The menu proclaims that the restaurant is modern while paying homage to the classics, and I totally agree. The food is fantastic and you can also see that theme in the beautiful interior (exposed brick with bright murals). We ordered four tapas between the two of us (we could easily eat another 1 or 2, but we had eaten a lot for lunch). Honestly, this is the part where I rank my favorites, but I loved every dish. So here they are, in no particular order: - Sea bass ceviche: The sea bass is plump, and the lemon juice is just acidic enough without overpowering the taste of the fish. It is served with a creamy avocado puree. - Beet salad with goat cheese: I loved the crispy and spicy contrast of the radishes against the sweet beets. It was served with slightly roasted/baked goat cheese, which is oh-my-god-melt-in-your-mouth-so-good. I am going to do this for all my cheese plates from now on. - Poached eggs with iberico ham: The egg was cooked to perfection, and the white just set. I enjoyed the creaminess of the eggs against the salty and firm iberico ham. - Risotto with ginger: OK - perhaps this is my favorite among the favorites. The risotto was FULL of umami flavor, cooked slightly al dente. The spicy, crystallized ginger were bursts of flavor that has me salivating for the dish again, only a few hours after the meal. I came to Sensi for late night tapas the first night that I arrived in Barcelona and I was very satisfied with almost all of the tapas here (4/5)! This tapas restaurant was insanely packed when we arrived but we were still seated very quickly. The lighting at this spot is dark but it was a nice atmosphere to have a late night meal. The service was also great! The waitress warned us that we might not finish all of the dishes that we were about to order and suggested for us to take one dish off because it might be too heavy for us to finish. There was already bread on the table when we arrived and we did not touch it but this restaurant charges for bread even though many customers don't eat it. The Croquettes were very creamy and savory. The Tuna Tartare had great quality tuna and did not taste fishy at all. The Octopus was charred and had a smokey flavor that I enjoy. The Foie Gras Ravioli was very creamy and savory. The best meal I have had thus far through my backpacking trip, absolutely incredible... from the friendly staff to the prompt service to the mind-blowing food. We came in on a Saturday night, reservationless. Luckily they had some bar seating. Started off with some sangria (!!!) and ordered about 7 tapas. Every single dish was packed full of flavor and love, but let me suggest one that stood out above the rest -- the pork loin with pear two ways. The pork was smoked perfectly, moist and flavorful inside with a nice crunch on the outside paired with the sweetness of the pear which was prepared as a sauce and diced. It was so good we had to order it again! Other standouts include the seabass ceviche - the fattiness of the seabass cut through with the citrus and radish. Perfection. Of course the paella hit the spot, the shrimp cooked perfectly melt-in-your-mouth sweetness. The homemade truffle ravioli was also great, although may be a bit rich for some. The staff was really incredible, and it makes a difference with the dining experience. The female bartender was great at communication and ensured our meal was perfect. The staff worked seamlessly together and can tell really were passionate about food and were genuinely having fun. Although some local friends have called this place a tourist trap due to the picture perfect presentation of the dishes, even they agreed that prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food you received. Drinks wise, if you're not feeling anything alcoholic and are a fan of gingery tastes, I recommend their homemade limeade with ginger -- it's tangy, refreshing and delightful. Food wise, some of the meal highlights I had were: -Seabass trilogy: comprised of three mounds of ceviche, cheesy risotto, and halibut - this one is a must! -Truffle ravioli: a creamy ravioli stuffed with risotto and dunked in creamy truffle sauce -Mussels: the sauce is an orange, spicy curry sauce that can be used for the mussels as well as the white bread basket that is served to all tables. The only disappointment was the small size of the mussels Zucchini rolls: deep fried zucchini rolls served on top of a cheesy sauce with a side of a beet chip -Caramel cheesecake: an original flavored cheesecake topped with almond slices and drizzled in caramel sauce Decor wise, the atmosphere was relaxed and somewhat hipsterish with its stone walls and intimate table settings. Dios Mio, they have Paella tapas here! And at a great price point! Every euro spent here holds its weight in quality, presentation, and taste. In this restaurant of dim lights and dark wood ceilings, my friend and I ordered the Iberian pork, the Paella Tapa, and the mussels in red sauce. Thanks to a new friend we made there, we also got to try the cheese plate. The Paella was the right amount of smoky and savory, with each seafood element arranged and cooked to bring out best out of the dish. As a tapas place, everything was well-priced and came out in good portion sizes. The Iberican beef - cooked medium rare and tender and cut into portions, was plated on blue china, and tasted delicious. The mussels in red sauce was great - we had just come from La Boqueria and the red sauce here was way better - it actually was savory enough to enhance the seafood and at the same time, highlighted the quality taste of fresh mussels. I would skip out on the cheese plates though, they were nothing phenomenal. Get a drink or two. Try out the ginger or tropical lemonade, its a great refresher between tapas. Also, the bartender sent some shots of Limoncello our way and it was honestly the best restaurant we'd gone too in our stay. Sensi ended the search for decent Paella with a resounding bang. This restaurant has the best tapas I've gotten during my trip to Barcelona. Very diverse menu, and everything we ordered was delicious. It is pretty close to 5-star quality, but I'm giving it 4 stars mainly because of some non-food-related things. For one, it's a very small restaurant, and it gets pretty warm in there (during the summer). The wifi is also not very good, and there's no cell phone service in there. But the food was great!! And the service was good too. You have to order 2 tapas per person, and I was in a group of 5 so we got 10 dishes. Favorite tapas place!! the sauces and flavors are so good and modern. I love this restaurant and all of the other branches. The number one place I recommend for people visiting Barcelona.
